I thought my blorbo was gonna be the sad detectives but truly I think it's the sexually repressed mad scientist who skulled maple syrup, who has thought about a girl who smiled at him everyday of his life since it happened, who tried to do a good thing once and it went so bad that he decided to never do that again until his midlife crisis hit him like a freight train and led to his defenestration.

Elias Hodge is insane like he created a mind-controlling machine, ate copper so it couldn’t be used against him, almost got mind-controlled by his boss but had enough resistance to the machine to attach a grappling gun to his dick before launching himself out of a window, was unconscious for about 30 seconds before suddenly waking up falling to his death, fired said grappling gun, swung through the air while screaming and shitting his pants, had a full sexual renaissance in his head before crashing into ANOTHER window, changed his pants, gathered the world ending mind control documents, ran away, got cornered by his evil boss, punched said evil boss, invaded his colleagues birthday party, punched THEM in the face, stole their cake, and somehow successfully landed a date before going into witness protection and having a way better life

In Elias Hodge's mind, his attention (Anastasia Tension) is wasted on menial mundane tasks he doesn't care about, their potential wasted, while his impulses (Imelda Pulse) guides his hand for better or worse.

His curiosity (Hunch Curio) is stuck on the small things in life, craving money and questions. His conscience (Conrad Shintz) is considered childish, every other part of him trying to squash it down, framed as an inconvenience.

His hyperfixations (The Fix) keep straying to everything he abandoned in his childhood (the Orphanage), which he hates and refuses to treat those memories with any sort of kindness- bar one part of his mind which longs for kidness on the child he used to be.

His lust (Daniel Fucks) and pleasures are supressed, believing himself unworthy, and every time he is close to gratification he self destructs, punishing himself for not being enough.

Now there are little thoughts, tiny intrusions, that used to be quiet growing louder. He doesn't want to do bad, not really, but what does it matter anymore? If he can't let himself be happy, why not be malicious? He's not listening to his conscious anymore, his impulses and... something else has a control over him. His 'mental switchboard' is broken, so to speak, and certain parts of his brain are no longer able to communicate.

There is no predicting what that man, that horrifically smart man, might do.

I don't know if this makes sense, but even though he wasn't in this season, Elias Hodge is a Brian Murphy character. Just from a vibes standpoint, when you mix it all together. Hell, he might even be Riz.

I am having Big Feelings about the Home for Wayward Interests becoming The Fix's home with Pasha, Ichabod Ice Skates, and the rest of the Interests. As many other excellent posts I read point out, the fact that the Interests are being watched over by Madame Loathing (Self Loathing/Guilt) means that every time the Big Guy thinks about them, he hates himself and feels guilty for losing focus. But now, now when he thinks of his old interest in reptiles, magic, or bass playing, or his newly rediscovered interest in ice skating, he's passionate. He's allowed to fixate on them.

It's also a really really perfect ending for The Fix. Surrounded by facts he's allowed to care about that are not considered distractions, but interests, passions, good things for the Big Guy, things that he might even be allowed to pay Attention to with an old friend at the helm of conscious action. With the oxytocin flowing, with the red light district a full, working part of Mentopolis again, and with The Fix and Pasha running the Home for Wayward Interests, I'd imagine things are really looking up for the Big Guy.

Maybe it's sunny again in Mentopolis.

the justin scene was heartbreaking and i did cry but in the outside world elias changed his pants, had a deep flash of extreme self loathing out of nowhere, then took a look at himself and realised that no matter who he was or how out of touch with who he really is he happened to be, he was still worthy of love.

I’m all caught up on Dimension 20: Mentopolis, and I fucking love how Brennan decided to interpret how shock and adrenaline can prevent someone from feeling the pain of an injury into a noir setting. Like, instead of it being just that Elias can’t feel the blunt force done to the back of his head, it’s that the shock police went in and brutally murdered the pain receptors carrying the message in order to cover it up and prevent the rest of the city from finding out.

Elias Hodge fell off a building, had his sex drive Completely killed and gone from him mid fall, had it recovered it by his own curiosity, and by the time he landed had let go of Any uptightness in him, the feeling literally Murdered, and now feels totally justified to start a full sexual renaissance.

This sad little nerd jumped off a building, action hero grappling hooked himself to safety like a character in the matrix, landed a slut who doesn't have an ounce of shame in him.

My take on Stacy Fakename is that Elias had a crush on a girl named Stacy as a kid and someone overheard him talking about her and tried to press for more info like “oh! Stacy who?” And he panicked not wanting her to find out so he said “oh you don’t know her, it’s Stacy… Fakename” and now it’s just like baked into the culture of mentopolis.

elias hodge is so fucking funny because can you imagine watching a guy jump out of a skyscraper window and then about a minute later you're looking on security cams and he's somehow back in the building almost entirely unscathed except for the fact he's very obviously shit his pants. absolute legend
