-Blaine Hayes (Foreign Affairs)
-Logan (Ride or Die)
-Trystan Throne (Crime of Passion)
Sweethearts that Dote on MC i.e.:
-Adrain Raines (BloodBound)
-Griffin Langley (The Elementalists)
-Grant Emerson (Veil of Secrets)
-Tyler Woods (Murder at Homecoming)
-Liam Rys (for me, Christian Rys; The Royal Romance/The Royal Heir)
-Luke Harper (Desires of Decorum)
-King Arthur (Guinevere)
Hardasses with a Soft Spot for MC/Trying to do Their Jobs but Fall for MC i.e.:
-Kayden Vescovi (The Royal Masquerade)
-Elijah Sipes (Wake the Dead)
-Everett Flynt (Slow Burn)
-Marco di Vincenzo (Hot Couture)
-Prince Kieran (The Cursed Heart)
-Bastien (Wolf Bride)
-Synphax (The Courtesan of Rome)
-Noah Harris (My Two First Loves)
-Manu Nakeli (Shipwrecked)
-Gabriel (Gabe) Ricci (Laws of Attraction)
-Tyril Starfury (Blades of Light and Shadow)
If I play any more books, this list will only get longer. Someone, please send help 😭😅

Thanks to @farizrz I just found out that despite being called "Alien" the body shape of the Across the Void male MC is actually just like the professional males. This means you can edit those outfits on the Nightbound MC! I also found out that Eli from Wake the Dead (and also Joaquin from Laws of Attraction) also share the same type body!

The End of the World (1/2)
Tumblr media
Book:                   Wake the Dead (prequel)
Featuring:        Eli Sipes, David Sipes
OCs: Florence (mother), James (father)
Rating:                 Series - Mature / Part 1 - Teen
Category:           Angst
Summary:           The Sipes Family live in a world where they are constantly aware of their mortality, but on some days, they feel it more than others. In Part One, the family shares a poignant morning together as they head off to their days.
Words:                 1,668
A/N:     This two-part series will cover "that day" in Eli's life. If you've read WTD, you'll know exactly what "that day" is. This part is not terribly angsty, though there is foreboding. The second part will be where most of the pain is delivered without the benefit of anesthesia. Still, I hope you enjoy it if you're a masochist like me. Participating in @choicesjunechallenge , summer, rain, love.
The cover artwork is by the amazingly talented @rosefuckinggenius. It was originally created to represent the artwork Zoe gifts Eli in Comfort & Joy. Part 2 will have another one of her commissions that I have been so anxious to share with you!

Eli wrapped a thick cord of twine around the post… two… three times… before securely tying a knot to hold it in place. Rising to his feet, he dusted himself off as he inspected his handiwork. It wasn’t ideal, but it would have to do for now. It was late September, and the sun was beginning to set earlier. With nightfall imminent, they needed to get inside.
Wiping the sweat from his brow, he turned toward their cabin in the center of the clearing and chuckled. For a couple that was so devoted to each other, his parents sure liked to squabble. He considered staying put to enjoy the peace and quiet, but the desperation on his younger brother’s face lured him over. Eli had found his parent’s bickering amusing from the time he was a child, but David… he was a sensitive soul, and even knowing they did it in jest, it could cause him discomfort. It was time for big brother to come in for the save.
“Are you two trying to draw the attention of every drone in the area with your arguing?” Eli teased as he approached.
“We’re not arguing!” His mother, Florence, retorted with a playful punch to her eldest’s arm. “We’re having a spirited debate over who’s right… and after all these years, you would think your father would know that it is usually me!”
“Really?” James grimaced. “Do you really want me to list all the times you were wrong?”
Florence crossed her arms in front of her chest defiantly and narrowed her eyes in defiance. “James Elijah Sipes. Is this really the hill you want to die on?” she asked.
Unable to keep the ruse up any longer, her husband broke into laughter. “Absolutely not,” he grinned, pulling her into his arms. “Absolutely not!”
“Good,” she sang smugly, “then admit I’m right!”
“Guys, what is in question? Maybe I’ll cast the deciding vote. I am of age, after all.”
“It’s the damn roof!” James grunted.
“We know it’s needed repair for a while,” Eli shrugged.
“Yeah, but it’s in bad shape, and your father’s arthritis is screaming that bad weather is coming.”
“You know my arthritis is never wrong,” James injected. “Between that and the grey clouds today, we have to do it tomorrow. It won’t make it through another deluge.”
“But tomorrow is hunting day….” David stepped in. “And we’re low on food. See the dilemma?”
“And if your father’s right about the weather, we won’t be unable to hunt for a few days.”
“So? We split up,” Eli replied. “Problem solved.”
“Thank you!” his Dad rejoiced.
“Not so fast!” his mother stated. “The problem is, the roof is a three-person job. There’s no way for two of us to repair it safely.”
“Right. So you, Dad, and David fix the roof, and I’ll hunt.”
James raised his hands in victory, a proud look on his face, but Florence scowled.
“What did I tell you?” his father grinned.
“Eli…” Florence stalled. “I just don’t think it’s safe for you to go alone. I know you’ve done it before, but the drones have been very active lately, and I’d feel better if one of us was with you.”
Eli attempted to allay his mother's fears. “Like you said, I’ve done it before… plenty of times. We’ll get an early start, and you know I’m careful.”
“Not to mention he’s the most skilled marksman I’ve ever seen,” James added.
“Being a skilled marksman won’t help him if he’s outnumbered! Or if they attack from behind.”
“Mom,” Eli grinned as he pulled her into a hug. “I’m twenty-five years old…”
“Yeah,” Florance argued. “Plenty of twenty-five-year-olds have made delicious afternoon snacks for drones, dear. They really don’t care how old you are.”
“Mom,” David spoke up. “It’s not like we really have a choice.”
“Which is what I was saying,” James jumped in. “If we don’t patch that roof up, we’ll all be drone diner. So….”
“Fine!” Florence answered contemptuously. “We’ll do it your way, but I don’t have to like it.”
~~~~~
After sharing breakfast together the following day, David and James gathered supplies as Eli inspected his bow and arrows on the front porch. Florence approached him from behind and sat at his side.
“You see!” She said. “If I was a zombie, I’d be nibbling your arm by now. You didn’t even hear me coming.”
“I heard you just fine,” Eli insisted. “But I know the sound of your footsteps, Ma. I know the sound of your breathing. I had no reason to shoot you.”
“You’re such a wise ass,” she smirked. “Just like your father.”
“Well, I’ll take that as a compliment,” he answered with pride.
“As well you should.” Florence lifted her hand to Eli’s chin and turned it in her direction. “I may not say this as often as I should… but I am so proud of you, Eli. Growing up in this world hasn’t been easy, and that’s putting it mildly. But the man you’ve grown up to be….”
“Ma,” Eli blushed.
“No, Ma. I’m allowed to gush over my son if I see fit, and I do.”
“I know,” he said with a kiss to her forehead. “But Mom, I promise I will come back today.”
“I know,” she swallowed, voice cracking with emotion. “I know you will… just… please be careful… and … know how much I love you.”
“I do, and I love you, too,” Eli said with a hug.
Florence wiped a tear from her eye as they ended their embrace, and Eli was growing more concerned.
“Mom. Are you OK?”
No. She thought. Even James, Mr. Practicality himself, had come to respect her intuition. She wasn’t a mind reader, nor could she see the future, but when Florence Sipes had a bad feeling… she was usually proven right. The family had survived so much in the nearly two decades since the world as they once knew it ceased to exist… or the world she and James knew ceased to exist. The sad reality was her sons lived longer in this world than in the one before. She how blessed they were… most families didn’t even survive the initial days of this nightmare, and here they were… but she knew luck couldn’t be on their side forever. And while she was a strong woman who could withstand a lot, her son heading out and not coming back home… she wasn’t sure she could survive that.
“Mom?” He repeated.
“Yes,” she lied. “I’m fine, son. Really.  Just promise… promise you’ll be careful.”
“Always.”
Eli began to walk off, but something stopped him in his tracks. He walked back to his mother, sincerity in his eyes, as he took her hand.
“Mom.. you know if… when the day comes… we’ll have to be strong. None of us will be here forever.”
“Oh, are you the parent now?” she chuckled, trying to control the emotions that were overtaking her. She took a deep breath and steeled herself. After all, her intuition wasn’t always right, and they hadn’t survived eighteen years by being cowards. Even if today ended up being a tragic day, this was not the behavior she wished to model for her son. “I know,” she said confidently. “We’re Sipes. They don’t make them any stronger than us.”
“Got that right!”
“Promise me, Eli… promise me the same in return. When the day comes that I’m no longer here, you’ll go on. You’ll find the reason you are still alive because, after all this time, I know there is a reason. So promise me… please?”
“Ma, I….”
“Eli! I promise to be strong… I want you to do the same.”
“I promise, Mom,” he swallowed. “You have my word.”
“Good,” she smiled, holding him close to conceal her face distorting as she held back her tears. “Now go… the sooner you get out of here, the sooner you get home!”
James and David turned the corner, the former's eyes nearly rolling to the back of his head.
“For the love of God, Flor. Are you trying to frighten the boy?”
“As if I could frighten Eli Sipes,” she smiled.
“We were just talking, Dad. And saying… I love you.”
“Well… there can never be too much of that,” James grinned. “I love you, too, son.”
“And I love you, Pops.”
“Am I the only one not getting love here today?” David teased.
“Of course you’re getting love,” Florence said, mussing up David’s hair.
“Group hug!” David yelled.
“Oh… no…” “No, no, no!” Eli and James protested, but they were no match for Florence and David. James and Eli may have been the strongest on the outside, but nothing is stronger than the resolve of those who are strong at heart. And for that, Florence and David knew no match.
They laughed as they stood there, limbs tangled together in a messy heap. They took in every second and seemed to be in no rush to part. It was James who finally got things moving along.
“All right, all right, all right! Enough of this mush fest. Let’s save it for Christmas!”
“That’s when you’ll appear as Scrooge!” Florence teased.
“I’m out of here,” Eli smiled, looking at David. “Try to keep them under control.”
“And don’t you come back with some squirrel!” James mocked. “Daddy wants to make you all a good venison stew.”
“I’ll see what I can do,” he nodded.
As he walked away, the sun began to break through the clouds, shining brighter than it had in days. As its rays warmed him, Eli couldn’t help but smile. He could hear his parents in the distance, already bickering about the best approach to patching the roof, and he could just see David’s face as he tried to move them along in their task. Yes, the world had stolen so much from the Sipes, but they had each other, and Eli knew… that made them the luckiest people alive.
Readerly Exploration
Lawrence R. Sipe – Talking Back and Taking Over: Young Children’s Expressive Engagement During Storybook Read-Aloud
Big Takeaway – It is important to create question and answer scenarios during read-aloud in order for students to comprehend the essential in the book.
Nugget – I really appreciated this topic and found it to be a really good read. One of the things that I related to the most was how the article talked about allowing students to critique stories and what their endings may be. This allows the students to be creative in learning how to read the story prior to actually hearing about the ending. This challenges their problem solving and predicting skills. I also appreciated how the author talked about the importance of allowing students the time to answer back to questions that relate to the reading that the teacher had just taught about.
Readerly Exploration - Explore relationships with other people through reading by using texts as a shared experience with another person/other people or to gain insight into the perspective of  another person.I decided to do the portion of this assignment of talking with two of my friends about this topic. Elijah Murray is a Junior Cybersecurity Major and Narah Cohen is a Sophomore Psychology Major. I was able to talk to them about the importance of reading out loud to children, but also allowing them to talk throughout the book with you. It was really cool to hear from Narah about the psych aspect regarding reading and memorization, and how important that is for child development. Attached is a picture of this conversation.
How Far We’ve Come
Because I miss one hardass, but softie for MC, Elijah Sipes.
Book: Wake The Dead
Pairing: Elijah Sipes x Judith Archer (Black Female MC)
Rating: T (Teens)
Tags: Future-Based, Reflecting, Fluff, Mentions of violence
Summary: It’s been a year since Olympus has been founded and survived the 7-Year Surge. Judith found it nearly impossible to sleep and Eli finds it uncomfortable without her sleeping next to him. So the two of them reflected on the events that lead them to this very moment. Together at last, under the sparkling night sky.
“You should be sleeping.” Honey-brown eyes glanced over a moon-kissed shoulder, regarding the towering man silently before turning back to look at the full moon. Eli walked up silently before sitting behind the young woman on the window sill, wrapping his arms around her.
“I could say the same for you,” Judith responded softly under her breath, eyes never leaving the celestial bodies in the sky. Eli gently squeezed her closer, pressing his chest along the length of her back.
“I woke up when I realized you weren’t next to me,” he mumbled against the soft skin of her shoulder. Eli could feel the vibration of her gentle laugh against his lips.
“It’s funny that you say that. I was just thinking about how far we’ve come. I bet over a year ago, you couldn’t imagine hearing yourself say that. Especially since you threatened to kill me to prevent trouble coming to your doorstep,” she replied. The older man shook his head with a chuckle.
“Being alone was all I knew. With a face like yours, you were bound to bring all sorts of trouble to my life.” She raised a brow at this.
“A face like mine?”
“I always found you to be beautiful… your eyes were what drew me in the most. Even in the dark, they seem to shine like two suns. They’re captivating… you are captivating… but I couldn’t let that deter me or my focus on surviving.” A sharp canine gently wore down on her bottom lip as Judith felt a blush warm her cheeks.
Eli was a man of a few words… but when he spoke, he made them count. Usually, he’ll be short, blunt, and to the point. She knew he wouldn’t become a waxing poetic to just anyone.
“I didn’t realize you thought that way, Eli,” she whispered softly. Eli nuzzled her neck affectionately, squeezing her close.
“I did… even though part of me wanted to keep you at a distance… I’m glad I didn’t. I don’t regret a moment we shared together,” he mumbled softly against her pulse. Eli could feel the shudder run across the warm body in his arms.
“Not…not even that day at the carnival,” she asked shyly. Eli surprised Judith by giving her a rare smile.
“Not at all…” She turned to face him properly, slender fingers dancing over the healed bite mark adorning his neck.
“I find that hard to believe, especially after you got bitten,” she said. The memory of the drone sinking its disgusting teeth into Eli’s skin was something that Judith would never forget. She could’ve lost the man she developed feelings for long before she was ready to confess. Before seeing if there was a remote chance of them exploring what these feelings meant. Where they could possibly lead...
A larger hand reached up to cover her own, dark hazel eyes looking directly into hardened amber ones. Judith blinked as if she was coming back to herself. Eli met her gaze with steady determination.
“I would be a liar and say that I didn’t berate myself that day. I kissed you even though I told myself to stay away from you. You kept me alive even though you knew the rule of what happens when someone gets bit. I almost killed you because you refused to kill me…” Eli fell quiet for a moment, taking in the face of the woman who wiggled her way into his heavily guarded heart.
Judith was a beautiful young woman, Eli would have to be dead not to notice. Bright-colored eyes that turn into molten gold under the natural lighting. A diamond-shaped face softened the plump curve of her cheeks.  A cute nose that would wrinkle at anyone who annoyed or sassed her. Full dark brows that would communicate at least 60% of her answers. Full lips that held a particular sweetness that Eli just can’t get enough of. Long ombré colored locs that would tumble over her shoulders and upper back. Dark brown skin marred by battle scars, but still soft and warm to the touch.
“But I couldn’t find in myself to regret being with you. Not then, not now, not ever.” Judith let out a shaky breath at his confession, cheeks flushing in a deep red.
“I... don’t regret taking a chance on you either,” she said quietly, forcing herself to hold his gaze.
Judith has never really experienced love or romantic feelings before. No one at the Tower really interested her and the guys there seem to find it a fun sport of bad mouthing her and calling her all types of racial slurs. Jaime would step in and threaten to break their teeth in if she ever caught them harassing her but Judith tried to block them out and ignore them whenever she wasn’t around.
It was the apocalypse, she couldn’t really see herself being with someone and having a family of her own.
That was of course until she met Eli.
It was unconventional.
Her Knight in Army-clad armor was quick to aim his arrow at her heart after he saved her and her friends from being devoured by zombies. Even with his steely gaze, Judith couldn’t help but admire his eyes. At first, she thought he had brown eyes until she saw him in proper lighting. Flashes of green appeared in his iris, reminding her of the forest surrounding his cabin.
And Judith had eyes. She would have to be a zombie not to notice how handsome Eli was.
Dark hazel eyes framed by long dark lashes. Full brows that framed his eyes and face structure perfectly. Full lips that stuck out no matter how much he frowned or scowled. The facial hair outlined his strong jawline. The small scars that decorated his face. Even with his dark wavy hair outfitted in a mohawk that Judith never fully understood.
Don’t get her started on his body. Judith has been lifted up by Eli several times, mainly to save her ass from a zombie trying to eat her. But it never fails to make her secretly blush at how easily he’s able to do so.
But Eli was more than a handsome face with a fit body. He was a source of comfort for her. Even though he helped Dirk drag her awhile from Jaime, he expressed many times he understood her. That he truly saw her, no matter how hard she tried to hide behind a reassuring smile.
He just seems to get her. And it seemed natural for her to get him too…
”I do admit, I’m glad you said that. I know I didn’t make it easy to get close.” Judith smiled, before pecking his lips.
”Some things in life are never easy. That’s why they’re worthwhile,” she whispered. Eli’s tongue swiped over his lips, eyes dark with intent. He leaned in, pressing his lips against Judith’s soft ones.
The young woman let out a soft sigh through her nose, parting her lips for Eli to get a deeper taste. The man let out an answering groan when the familiar taste of her ignited his senses. The two shared a small battle before Judith submitted to Eli’s building desire.
It was when he moved from her lips to her neck that she gave a little jump.
“Oh!” Eli immediately stopped upon hearing her, brows creased with worry.
“What is it,” he asked, body wounded up tight as if he was ready to jump into action at a moment’s notice. Judith let out a small laugh.
“I think our little one is trying to tell you to give me a break. I don’t think they appreciate your passionate actions last night as I did,” she teased, gaze turning down to her extended belly. Eli relaxed at this, giving a small smile. His large rugged hands trailed down to Judith’s stomach, rubbing it soothingly.
“My apologies, little one. I didn’t mean to wake you up last night,” he said to his unborn child. Judith loved seeing this softer side of Eli, especially when he interacted with the baby growing inside her.
Their baby.
“You’re lucky that you’re not carrying them. They gave me hell over it almost the entire day today,” she snorted before wincing a bit when a tiny foot pushed against her skin. Eli ran his hand over the spot, soothing the child living her stomach before leaving a kiss beneath her ear as an apology.
“I’m glad I’m not, but that doesn’t mean I don’t admire you for doing so. You’re so strong for doing this. Something our kid seems to demonstrate already,” he whispered. There was a brief pause before Eli spoke again.
“What gender do you think our baby is?” Judith took on a thoughtful expression.
“I think it’s a boy, personally,” she answered, entwining her fingers with Eli’s. The man smiled.
“Interesting, I was thinking the same thing… would you be disappointed if we had a girl instead?” Judith shook her head.
“No, not at all. If we did have a girl, she would probably be a badass like her mama,” she replied with a smirk. Eli rolled his eyes before pressing a kiss to her cheek.
“Hopefully our kid wouldn’t inherit your ability to throw yourself head first into danger.”
“Hey!” Eli laughed at the woman’s offended cry. He pecked her lips before looking into her eyes.
“Though I do hope they inherit your eyes… that beautiful honey brown that would shine even in the darkest of nights.” Judith fought back the blush that threatened to burn her face. Damn Eli’s ability to tease her and make her feel like mush in less than a minute…
“Our kid is gonna be beautiful. They have the finest parents around after all,” she said with a wink. Eli let out an amused hum before dropping his gaze to her belly.
“Thought of any names?”
“Yeah… Kayden David Sipes for a boy and Preach Jaime Sipes for a girl.” Eli squeezed his love close.
“They would be honored to hear that, you know?” Judith looked into Eli’s dark hazel eyes.
“I know… and they would be proud to see how far we came. Together as a couple. I love you, Elijah.”
“I love you too, Judith Lupa Sipes…”
