like i had always planned a certain endgame romance but... i didn't expect this

Writing is weird...

without meaning to, i’m writing in a new way than i usually do - somewhat out of order. 

by which i mean, i’m writing each chapter, and the moment i feel myself loosing steam, i jump to the next chapter even if i’m not finished the previous. 

and because of that? this is my progress after only 4 days...

13,730 words... wtf?

After far too much consideration, I’ve finally decided to rename my finished book Depths of Reality. 

This book has gone through about four different names now, and none of them have ever felt totally right, so I’m hugely relieved this one fits. Ironically, it was the name of a story I wrote way back in high school that has nothing to do with this book at all! 

((Also thank you to all the people who said congrats on my ‘finished’ post about this book, it means so much! <3))

Now that it’s complete and edited, I’m moving onto my next project that includes so many maps that require being made first, I’m losing my mind a little (in the best possible way)

WIP Intro - The Last Taint

Hide. Survive. Stay awake. But the nightmares always found a way. 

His secret out. The palace walls no longer able to protect him. The sands of Friday starting to seep through his fingers. Time is running out. Seth’s only hope is to join a hunted girl’s blasphemous journey, in the hopes it might save him from the Taint that is slowly consuming him. If the Abbey don’t catch him, sleep will. 

Genre: Fantasy, adventure.

Status: Complete, massive edit underway. 

Includes: diverse characters, lovable assholes, traversing lands from desert countries to flooded cities, ridiculously detailed world-building, yet more characters sticking middle fingers up at ‘gods’, a magic system with rules and massive consequences, and a whole damned language made from scratch.

I’ve been editing like crazy the past few days, so I think this was the last line I wrote in the unnamed rewrite that may no longer be unnamed! ^^

They don’t exist, not really. And so, who better to undertake the impossible task of finding the Gods that have vanished from this world? Five unlikely companions, and even less likely survivors, battling for their right to an existence. 

The first is dead. The second is a child of a childless man. The third is the one who will kill. The fourth has no future. And the fifth? 

Well, the fifth is something the world has been long overdue: A Storm.

Laszlo is so not into Cal, what are you all talking about? 

'Cal’s eyes opened slowly. They were like the ocean, really. The deepest blue depths, waiting to swallow up a sailor who wasn’t too careful.’

“Mother of Gods, his name is Rical, Spinel! Are you so far removed from this Plain that you really think I’d hurt him?”

‘“You haven’t answered me,” Laszlo said again, his hands covering Cal’s – to keep him gripping tightly, he told himself.’

‘Cal was silent a lot, he said little, but the words were always there, lingering just behind his eyes. Laszlo watched as the thoughts flickered and danced in Cal’s eyes – like the stars in the lake behind them.’

Godless Progress!

So, I’m stopping for the night, but Godless is almost at 20,000 words? After... a week of writing??? If this doesn’t prove how much I love this story, I don’t know what does! 

As a comparison: Shoreless’ first draft was 87,000 words and completed in two months (my two months off, tbf, so I was writing every day for those two months straight. 

I’ve written like 1/5(ish) of Shoreless’ word count in one week... that’s crazy to me. So, so crazy. 

Note: Chapter 6 is no where near finished, and it’s going to be a long one, as that’s where I stopped to jump forward to write my LasCal scene. Don’t judge me.

as I’ve reached the 3rd new POV in Godless, I’ve discovered just how much my writing style (and mood, actually) changes with each one, and it’s kind of amazing. 

Cal: Anxious and so heavily focused on description because he doesn’t really speak, but he sees. All the good in the world, and all the negative is literally separated into italics. 

Spinel: Everyone move the fuck out of the way, she is a motherfucking incredible beast of a woman who don’t need no man/woman other than to please her. Super self-focused descriptions. 

Laszlo: Salty ass motherfucker. So done with everyone. Except Cal. 

I’m so in love with writing Godless, guys. Like seriously, I’ve not been this into writing a story in so long. I can’t wait to meet Maesha and Fifth.

4. Who is someone they’ve hurt? - Cal 

Cal makes it his life mission to never cause problems for anyone, to the point where it’s a really big problem of his. Actually, he’s probably hurt Klaris more than he realises. He hates her, despises her, resents her for causing all this, when actually, he doesn’t have the slightest idea what she’s done for him. 

9. What is something that would break them emotionally? - Laszlo

Laszlo was broken emotionally, like utterly shattered, when he was a child, thus he believes he can’t be broken like that again. He’s wrong. Cal breaks him very quickly - seeing someone actually standing up for him, helping him, and also for telling him off. That ruins him. 

10. Sacrifice the one to save many, or save the one no matter the cost? - Mae

This is a weirdly perfect one for Maesha... for reasons... and so it’s kinda hard to say without spoiling something about her? So I’ll say: both, so long as the sacrifice and the cost is herself. 

14. What is something that never fails to make them excited? - Fifth

Um... everything? Like literally everything? The sky. Grass. Laszlo’s eyes. Maesha’s hugs. Cal’s voice. Spinel’s laugh. Everything except the dark. 

23. What do they want most in life? - Spinel

To understand the problem with her existence. To feel like the Spirits are watching over her once again.

so why do i only have inspiration for this ONE scene where Laszlo first decides Cal is like wondeful?

Here’s the latest snippet from Godless that I’ve been working on! (Bit more than a line, but forgive me for my indulgences!) 

Once his eyes grew accustomed to the blinding light, Cal allowed himself to start wandering. He was grateful for the first sign he came across – tall and wooden, with words carved into the arrowed heads. It pointed the way to the central hall, to the market, and to the seafront. It was the latter that Cal let his feet lead him too. The ocean. Water. Rivers and oceans didn’t exist in the Crevice, but up here there were entire oceans waiting.
