hi! do you have any general hcs for the cod:ghosts boys?
general headcanons - call of duty: ghost's
Tumblr media
overview: general headcanons of the call of duty: ghost's boys!
pairing: none!
genre: fluff, pure tomfoolery
a/n: hi anon! i'm thrilled i finally got a request for these boys. i love them so much, it's getting a bit unhealthy. you're truly the best for requesting them! i hope you love it!
x logan walker
He sucks at puzzles. He’s smart and tactical, but puzzles are on another level of difficulty for him.
He likes doodling a lot. If he has a pen and a surface to draw on, he will sketch a small smiley or a caterpillar. It has become such a habit that he doesn’t even think about it when he does it. It got so bad that once, Keegan called him out on it mid-doodle, leaving Logan embarrassed for a week.
He loves the ocean, but beaches annoy him. He hates sand. (I firmly believe his hate for them is from Hesh throwing sand in his face as children.)
He has a picture of him and Hesh as kids in his wallet. He feels calmer when he looks at it, getting into the habit of peeking at it when stressed.
He’s an avid Deftones enjoyer. He loves Beware and Diamond Eyes.
He likes caramel-scented things, but he doesn’t like the taste of it.
He has some insane dirt on Elias, and, of course, Hesh knows all of it.
For some odd reason, he’s phenomenal at parallel parking.
x david "hesh" walker
He loves movies. He can watch any genre! Horror? Great! Action? Love. Romance? Cute! Comedy? Perfect! He loves it all. Shows, however? Nope.
He takes pride in his nails being clipped and filed at all times. He was a nailbiter in his teens, so he cares about his nails more than he should today.
He can’t cook to save his life.
Eminem is his go-to artist. He loves and respects many artists, but Eminem will always be at the top of his list. He loves Stan.
He’s respectful in general.
He’s extremely secure and confident, yet he’s still pretty nervous when he talks to girls.
He loves long car rides. Driving around in his car while listening to his favorite songs brings out a unique joy in him.
He, unlike Logan, loves beaches! (He wasn’t the one who got sand thrown on him, so he’s thriving.)
He hates coriander.
x elias "scarecrow" walker
Unlike his son, Elias is great at puzzles! He’s disappointed Logan didn’t inherit that quality. He mourns it every day.
He loves pickles. (Same.)
He manipulated himself into liking beer many years ago.
People call him DILF all the time. It has happened too many times to count. He finds it funny, while Hesh and Logan are horrified every time.
He doesn’t know how to put on chapstick. He puts it between his lips and swipes it back and forth, not on his lips.
He got so much action when he was a teenager/young adult. He tells Logan and Hesh to “live a little” so they can experience that life, too.
He doesn’t listen to music often, but when he does, he listens to either Korn or Chris Isaak.
He adores Riley, sometimes stealing him from Hesh without warning.
x keegan russ
He secretly enjoys ASMR. It helps him unwind and de-stress, but not sleep, surprisingly.
He’s excellent at the game Mafia.
He has made way too many people giggle excitedly because of his voice. He finds it amusing but disturbing at the same time. He knows it’s attractive, but that many people? He has even made Elias giggle like a schoolgirl because of his vocal folds.
Keegan strikes me as a Slipknot fan. He finds Killpop and Vermillion to be sexy.
He loves grocery shopping.
He talks to himself a lot. He’s antisocial and quiet around others, but when Keegan’s alone, he keeps having full-on conversations with himself. Merrick caught him doing it once - he never brought it up again.
He enjoys lasagna a bit too much.
He had a motorcycle phase as a young adult. It got so bad he learned how to do a wheelie on them, but his love for them has died down in the many years he’s been alive.
He thinks wine is gross.
x thomas merrick
He cannot stand bananas. Everything about them makes him gag.
He gets such a rise out of being a bitch. He’s already annoying by default but strives to be even more insufferable for the fuck of it.
He, Alex, and Keegan smoke while being sentimental together at least once a month. (It’s always with Keegan and Alex - Elias, David, and Logan get left out.)
He listens to underground metal like Sold Soul, and he thinks it makes him superior to everyone else. (And he gatekeeps it.)
He’s immune to pretty much all physical pain except for waxing. It’s enough to make him cry.
He loved trains as a child.
His comfort song is Toxicity by System Of A Down.
His appetite is insane. This man can eat a horse and still be hungry by the end of it.
His calves are huge for some reason.

Is it bad to say that I have more respect for Eminem than I have for VivziePop?
He's got more talent in his left pinkie toe than Viv has in her entire body, I'll say that much.
I'm biased, I have a couple of Eminem songs songs on my workout place and Phenomenal always makes me think of Arcee.

Ask meme!
Thank you @lulu2992 for tagging me! I quite enjoyed how you worded yours, as well as @glowwormsmith (to do so twice for the funsies) and am curious to see how well I do on mine.
Rules: Spell out your URL using song titles that can describe your muse/OC/pairings, then tag as many people as there are letters in your URL!
Tagging @cassietrn @chazz-anova @voidika @thewanderer-000 @titiagls and @onehornedbeast + anyone else who'd like to join. Also you don't have to do what I did. You can read my best attempt at this Ask meme below the cut:
"Some Nights" [Fun.] I just stay up, staring at my roof thinking about the characters, the fics I wrote, and the thing is, "I Can't Decide" [Scissor Sisters] on who to talk about first, because there is so many options, each imbued with "My Kind Of Love" [Leon Else - 13 Reasons Why] in various forms. There's the protagonist of The UnTitledverse, Joaquin Cobalt, who's personally a "Part Of Me" [Katy Perry] in some ways but very different in others, especially for his search of identity as he grows up. Silva Omar is the de-facto "main protagonist" of Far Cry The Silver Chronicles, especially with her motivation for living in Hope County, which is to move on from the past and her repetitive status as being the "Last One Standing" [Skylar Grey ft. Polo G, Mozzy, & Eminem - Venom: Let There Be Carnage]. Haoyu Anabuki is someone I find as an interesting protagonist in Life, Despair & Monsters, as unlike Joaquin and Silva, who do have good intentions but often times go to the extreme with those values (Joaquin's methods are more merciless while Silva's is brutal), Haoyu would rather hold onto their selfish intentions than help anyone, but actively learns to care about others and works as a significant foil against his "Enemy" [Imagine Dragons ft. J.I.D - Arcane League of Legends], Sir Enigma Malvolio, who's good intentions are condescending at best and severely warped at worse causing his methods to be unethical, uncaring and selfish.
There's also other series I've developed such as Wings And Horns and it's spin-off trilogy that develops, as well as the Fallout series A Radioactive Calamity of Love, Bombs & Gore, all a "Glorious" [Macklemore ft. Skylar Grey] exploration of the past that happened before The UnTitled Ventures saga, which is the kickstart of the other three series plots. "Everywhere You Look" [Carly Rae Jepsen - Fuller House] is a strange and fantastic journey, which both original and canon characters have to endure and overcome through because what we (and I) get seems to be "Never Enough" [Loren Allred - The Greatest Showman] for our passionate hearts, so we write our own stories and build upon it. "I Gotta Feeling" [The Black Eyed Peas] that The UnTitledverse, Far Cry The Silver Chronicles, Life, Despair & Monsters and the other series and the characters in them, are going to be phenomenal, which is a very bold statement but hey, I've had these building up in my head like an "Unstoppable" [The Score] force for years and I really, really want to finally write them all down so at least they are out there, somewhere, and who knows maybe it might "Shine Through" [The Stupendium] someone else's vision and inspire them to write or make their day a brighter.
One can hope it lasts "4ever" [The Veronicas], and I'll do my best to be along for the ride. And will still be writing even "28 Days Later" [John Murphy - 28 Days Later] after this.
(I have no songs I like or know that start with 0)
And mixing things up, here's how I worded my URL from Wattpad and a little bit from fanfiction.net based on gloworm's style.
Meant To Be - Bebe Rexha ft. Florida Georgia Line
"Maybe we do / Maybe we don't / Maybe we will / Maybe we won't / But if it's meant to, it'll be, it'll be / Baby just let it be (Sing it baby) / If it's meant to be, it'll be, it'll be (C'mon) / Baby, just let it be (Let's Go) / So won't you ride with me, ride with me? / See where this thing goes" for my ship of my shapeshifting, meat-eating alien Mario Emmet and Charlie Emily, the android who didn't realize she was an android for years from the FNAF novels.
Impossible Geometry - The Stupendium ft. Chi-chi
"Never in all of history before / Has cardio been such bliss to perform / But beware of the risks / As you twist and deform / Or you might just put / Your fist through a wall / The Earth is a stave / And you're surfing the waves / As the sound of the blades / Lay waste to the shapes / Stay braces for the pace / Get a taste for the race / There's grace to embrace / When space is your playlist / I feel the music moving through every part of me / I see the beauty blooming out of every passing beat / I'm flying straight towards the light and there's no stopping me / I live my life through impossible geometry / I found a place where my playlist lays a rhapsody / Where my heartbeat and the bass can weave a tapestry / I'm flying straight towards the light and there's no stopping me / I live my life inside impossible geometry" for Silva Omar and Paul Yellowjack, at the highest peak of Third Eye activation and use. In a way, it describes the kind of environment one sees in this state of mind.
Slide Into The Void - The Stupendium ft. Cami-Cat
"Breaking the first / The second / The third / The fourth wall / Fifth wall / No floor / You fall / Earworm humming in a dream / Baby, baby, baby yeah / Just plastic / You want to listen / You want to dream / You want to smile / You want to hurt / You don't want to be / You want to listen / You want to dream / You want to smile / You want to hurt / You don't want to be / If you can't place the pin / Where patterns end and you begin / Follow the Director / Else you're gonna slide into the void / But should your towers fall / Free your mind and heed the call / Go to the projector / Load another slide into the void" for the Ruins of the Midnight Rise (a science organization/cult that includes the Director, Sir Enigma Malvolio, a collection of the worlds greatest Third Eye users called "The Unity" or "Uni" for short, Malvolio's sopping wet bodyguard Denise Redwood, their primary enforcer Inviticus, his mecha-hound Impulse, a deranged Eden "Evie" Jackson Bloodleech (hint, hint), and Frederick Rosemary who shouldn't be anywhere near children).
The House Always Wins - The Stupendium
"You can hit them, you can fold them / Stack the deck and weight the dice / All that glitters isn't golden / Cash that check, you'll pay the price / Might be safer in the desert / Only dust to judge your sins / But those who wager aren't so clever / 'Cause in heaven / Well, the house always wins" for Mr. Robert Edwin House's condescending hatred towards one Marissa "Ress" Bishop... who returns the feeling 100% tenfold.
Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) - Kate Bush
"And if I only could, I'd make a deal with God / And I'd get him to swap out places / Be running up that road, be running up that hill / Be running up that building (He-oh) / Say, if I only could, oh-ooh / You / It's you and me / It's you and me / It's you and me / You won't be unhappy / Oh come on, baby / Oh come on, darlin' / Let me steal this moment from you now / Oh come on, angel / Come on, come on, darlin' / Let's exchange the experience / Oh-ooh-ooh" for Silva's survivor's guilt and grief over not being able to save her daughter Persephone.
Epoch - The Living Tombstone
"Everyone makes mistakes / I've had more than my share / But it's OK 'cause O'm gonna repair it / They say there are no retakes / But I just don't agree, no / This show / Is of my own making / Take it back to the start / I've had a change of heart / I know we can make it better than it ever was / I know we can make it better / I know we can make it better than it ever was / I know we can make it better" for an unlikely duo between Stranger Things Jim's older brother, Alfred "Jeff" Hopper, and Joaquin's older adopted sister Lisa Cobalt, both have nothing in common except for the fact both are repentant of their past mistakes and actions enough that they are willing to put a stop the world-ending Occult to save the people they want to keep alive.
Set Those Sinners Free - Dan Romer (Far Cry 5)
"Well, the Devil's friends hide in the dark / They've laid their plans and they'll make their mark / We pity the souls that they have claimed / They won't be saved when they're up in flames / The sinner's world is full of hate / There's so many lies that you can't keep straight / But when they finally meet their fate / There's no wait and see, there's see and wait / Well, you can sing all through the night / Preach till the mornin' light / But some cannot tell wrong from right / Jacob's gonna come and set those sinners free" for Alexander Khaos pretending to buy into the prophecy/religious aspect but going all in for the survival aspect that Jacob's set up.
Shameless - Camila Cabello
"So many mornings I woke up confused / In my dreams I do anything I want to you / My emotions are naked / They're taking me out of my mind / Right now I'm shameless / Screaming my lungs out for you / Not afraid to face it / I need you more than I want to / Need you more than I want to / Show me you're shameless / Write it on my neck, why don't ya? / And I won't erase it / I need you more than I want to / Need you more than I want to" for Silva Omar and the Apostles of Zachariah (human incarnations). Hates them but they're so traumatically impactful that she can't erase them from her mind and body (the scars and Persephone's absence being a reminder) which allows their memory to be constantly alive and haunting her. And compared to most people she fought and fights, she's subconsciously established them on this pedestal of what she wants out in a fight (as Paul taught her that "to fight is to prove you're alive").
Spotlight - CG5
"You really think I want to kill? The ink you see can't be distilled / I can tell it's not your day / Well, too bad! / I'm here to stay! / Our surprise is your demise / Close your lying eyes / Play that old song / In the night / Right under the spotlight!" for Calvin Dearing and his Narrator who hates his guts in A Blast In The Past and The Dark Awakening.
Pompeii - Bastille
"Eh, eheu, eheu / Eh, eheu, eheu / Eh, eheu, eheu / I was left to my own devices / Many days fell away with nothing to show / And the walls kept tumbling down in the city that we love / Grey clouds roll over the hills, bringing darkness from above / But if you close your eyes / Does it almost feel like nothing changed at all? / And if you closed your eyes / Does it almost feel like you've been here before? / How am I gonna be an optimist about this? / How am I gonna be an optimist about this?" for the duo Isiah Popov and Gemini Teal as they prepare their "finest" heist in an adapted Ketterdam in the present-ish modern-ish day but still stuck in its crooked ways.
Lost In Paradise - ALI ft. AKLO (Jujutsu Kaisen)
"Tokyo prison / I'm going to relight your feeling / Night and day are fading / I'm going to relight your feeling / Light up every last one of them / Ooh-ooh-oho, give me your love / Ooh-ooh-oho, access to your love / Ooh-ooh-oho, oh yeah! / Lost in paradise / Night and day are fading out / When time gets rough / Access to your love / Lost in paradise / Night and day are fading out / Keep on dancing now / Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey" for Hoayu Anabuki's journey in a Japanese high school trying to make a connection with their half-sister Monika without letting her know they're her sibling and a half-interdimensional being.
I'm So Sorry - Imagine Dragons
"No lies and no deceiving / Man is what he loves / I keep trying to conceive that / Death is from above (No time) / I get mine and make no excuses / Waste of precious breath (No time) / The sun shines on everyone / Everyone, love yourself to death / So you gotta fire up, you gotta let go / You'll never be loved till you've made your own / You gotta face up, you gotta make yours / You never know the top till you get too low / A son of a stepfather / A son of a, I'm so sorry / A son of a stepfather / A son of a, I'm so sorry" for the first major antagonist of The UnTitledverse, Edward Carmine, a 45-year-old Robotics Industrialist who doesn't take the hint to stay dead and tries to become God because of his superiority/god-complex much to everyone else's chagrin.
NEATH! A Fallen London Musical - The Stupendium
"See them scurry as the rat within the maze / Puzzulary and yet how they fascitate / Insignifiportant, if cacophocordant / Hunting for a heart to cherishisffectionate / Could they only see serendestiny / Death and broken dreams, hellish chemistries / Their apocacylsm spawns a clockanism / Requessary beyond their fathometry / Every infatuation, each glance of gladoration / Toothsome cogs upon our grand enmachinations / Each soul impassioned, heart's stole or lacerated / Each tale impaled by the quill tip to the pages / As the ink bleeds, how I drink these / Narratary little sips of histories / Every skipped beat now to drip feed / Something buried deep in enigmystery / All ends / Swords, pens / Foretent / Phenomonition / Court then / Torment / Love's bent / Definition / Cold and unprepared, wholly unawares / Chronologging their enhidden love affairs / There's a currency more poitiont underneath / And darker yet beyond that missing sun of theirs" for Evermond Scowlzka... going on about some poor lads he kidnapped picked up to run some unethical science upon.
They'll Find You - Griffinilia/Fandroid
"Find the mascots / Check your blind spots / Put the mask on / Turn the lights off / Wind the toy box / Check the game clock / Shun the dark thoughts / It's a long shot / They'll find you / They'll find you / We will find you / Terrorize you / And ensnare you / In a bear suit" for the animatronics against Lillian "Lena" Elliot as she tries to survive against them with a flashlight and baseball bat without damaging them too badly.
East of Eden - Zella Day
"Pink toes pressed against the carpet / Show your face and finish what you started / The record spins down the alley, late night / Be my friend, surround me like a satellite / Tiger on the prowl / East of Eden / Comin' for you now / Keep me from the cages under the control / Runnin' in the dark to find east of Eden / Keep me from the cages under the control / Runnin' in the dark to find east of Eden / To find east of Eden (Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)" for Silva, and maybe Ezekiel (given the "tiger" reference), against both her bio father and adopted father, Adam Omar and Paul Yellowjack in Silva's Hope and Old Dusk respectively.
Royalty - Egzod & Maestro Chives ft. Neoni
"Say I'm cold hearted / But I'm just getting started / Got my eyes on the target / Now, now / Till the battle's won / Till kingdom come / I'll never run / Best to give me your loyalty / Cause I'm taking the world you'll see / They'll be calling me, calling me / They'll be calling me royalty / Best to give me your loyalty / Cause I'm taking the world you'll see / They'll be calling me, calling me / They'll be calling me royalty / They'll be calling me royalty" for the Court King, a third-generation reality bender thought have perished in the Exterminator Purge War trillions of years ago. Only for him to find a puppet in Corvus Targaryen, adopted son of King Viserys the First.
1950 - King Princess
"I like it when we play 1950 / So bold, make them know you're with me / Stone cold, will you miss me? / So tell me why my Gods look like you / And tell me why it's wrong / So I'll wait for you, I'll pray / I will keep on waiting for your love / For you, I'll wait / I will keep on waiting for your" for Silva Omar and Faith Seed.

i have finally finished my only 12% and if you saw me curled up crying on the floor no you didn't. some of the choices made in the show were so absolutely phenomenal i just have to talk about them (no matter how incoherent i may be)
i loved that the storytelling wasn't rushed. like desis like to say, itmenaan se batao, tell it with patience! it's very easy to make the show dragged out, especially when it's a slowburn romance, but i was still at the edge of my seat all the time! (except maybe last 2 eps but that says more about me than the show lol, if i start to rant about the father I'll never really stop)
in continuation of the above point, the choice to let the scenes linger a little bit longer after the plot point/conversation was over was so good! for example, literally every scene with the friends doing their basic kids nonsense! (bestest friend groups really <3)
that terrifying Eminem poster that gave me a jump scare everytime it was in shot ☠️ also the fleabag poster for some reason, in a show set in late 2000s/early 2010s!!! (i.e. make a show so good that even bizzare mistakes seem negligible)
speaking of the show's setting, oh such a core memory to see MSN, the flip phones, skype, that box windows computer, adding relationship statuses on Facebook, peak 2012. (im a sucker for nostalgia!)
i don't think i have to talk about how beautifully written CakeEiw's friendship was! them cuddling to sleep and Cake just spreading his arms for 'HUG! 😁', yeah. adorable
Eiw's discovery of his sexuality (with Love of Siam) and Hom being so supportive of him! im so glad Eiw had such a supportive family and friends! no matter how much of an 'other' Eiw felt like, no one near & dear to him let him feel like that and its SO important (snickering at the fact that Earth is older than Prem).
the entire America plot, omg, bawling. who hasn't had that friend who moved away, or who hasn't been the one to move away at some point? it was so well done, and all the scenes between CakeEiw post Cake telling Eiw that he's moving had such a bittersweetness to it, especially on the last day when they're promising each other sweet nothings! (kudos to the actors!)
Eiw saying that he's sad that he discovered his love for Cake but now he has to move away? KNIFE IN MY HEART! Eiw sniff kissing Cake and Cake coming back from the car to hug Eiw even tighter? NO PAIN
the letter/email style story telling in ep9 🤌 i love that they didn't go for the "they grew apart in the 3 years" or "one of them isn't replying" etc etc tropes because not only i don't like them but also it would be so out of character for them! and correct use of emerging tech!
love the confidence and the glow up for Eiw! he joined so many activities, making new friends, becoming part of the drama club, dresses like a fkn model, also got his hair dyed, GOOD FOR HIM
Cake in Blonde™! Him immediately begging his mum to let him see Eiw after getting back (in the middle of the night!). him crying and wiping his tears when Eiw hugged him at the bus stop. he's everything to me. Eiw repeating Cake's name on repeat and asking him to always respond? 😭
the enitre subplot of Pu & Tal wanting to be with Eiw was so funny to me skskskskks because have they seen CakeEiw together? one could be with their partners but would still feel like a third wheel in front of them. (and that's BEOFRE they officially got together) INSUFFERABLE
oh the post-show CakeEiw fight, & Eiw saying "Have you ever had to be the one who waits?" holt saying PAIN.gif. that entire confrontation/confession was so intense that i understand the choice to spread it out in between two episodes. and finally Cake saying "then i will be gay with you" had me laughing in the middle of all these tears he's such a best boy i love him dearly. (i was lowkey scared of the 'im not gay i just like you' making a comeback lol)
CakeEiw's relationship being written just as good (if not better) than their friendship!!!! the scene with "i love everything about you"? crying screaming shaking. Cake being basically a puppy? love that for Eiw
in conclusion, CakeEiw best boys and i miss them dearly and i want them back already

Nice ask week - Thank you for starting this again. All kind of warm fuzzies.
Veronica Mars, 10 Things I Hate About You, what other early 2000s pop culture do you love?
Please & thank you.
EDIT! I forgot to say that @celeritas2997 actually started nice ask week this time around - thank you, cee!
hi lim, so sorry i didn't get to this earlier - i have been staring at it trying to remember what i love (what do i like????).
i would say some of my top picks of the Y2K are:
1. JUICY COUTURE VELOUR TRACKSUITS
you can call me whatever derogatory term you want for this, but i am a fiend for the JC original tracksuits. i still have one in my wardrobe and it is INCREDIBLY low waisted. i don't LOVE the diamantes, but i will live with them for the velour style. ALSO they are coming back in fashion so...who is the real winner, bitches?
Tumblr media
(from this Vogue article)
2. THE NAPSTER/LIMEWIRE/TORRENTING PIPELINE
now i would obviously never advocate for stealing music or movies (YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A CAR!?) but one hallmark of the Y2K was accidentally downloading 30948203489 pornographic viruses onto your shared home computer and at least 5 copies of "I did not have sexual relations with that woman". No? Just me?
Tumblr media
3. SPORTS MOVIES WITH FEMALE LEADS
Bring It On! Stick It! She's The Man! Blue Crush! Bend It Like Beckham! Million Dollar Baby (too serious for me, didn't actually vibe that one as much but it deserves to be here). Who doesn't wanna see girls run the world??? Who doesn't wanna run outside to their backyard and almost break their neck trying to do gymnastic moves they see on TV? Who doesn't beg their parents to let them get a spring free trampoline to avoid inevitable further injuries??

4. EARLY 2000s RAP MUSIC
In Da Club, Drop it Like it's Hot, P.I.M.P, Hot in Herre, Get Ur Freak On, Get Low, Lose Yourself, Ms Jackson, The Way I Am, Hey Ya the LIST GOES ON. Eminem, Jay-Z, Nelly, 50, The Game, Missy, Snoop, Eve, the Black Eyed Peas, Outkast were making phenomenal music, hell, even Lil Wayne even though he went on some weird rides there for a while.

5. DESPITE SOME PROBLEMATIC TAKES - 2000s TV
The OC, Entourage, the original season of Underbelly (Aus), 24, NCIS, Dexter, Gossip Girl, Veronica Mars (my beloved), TVD etc etc the list goes on there was some ICONIC TV going around. TV that my very religious parents would never let me watch so I used to go around to all my classmates in year 7 and scab TV shows one USB stick at a time (since flash drives were obscenely small back in the day) and watch under my duvet at night like it was a porno. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

EMINEM - "HOUDINI"
youtube
Careers are passing like a solar eclipse...
[1.95]
Jonathan Bradley: Marshall Mathers came up with his Slim Shady persona while taking a crap, dude, and he's been trudging through shit —  and other bodily expulsions — his whole career. He surfs on shit in the "Without Me" video; he augments his singles with fart noises; one of his most famous lines is about vomited spaghetti. The obsession extends beyond the scatological and deep into the self. Eminem — Detroit trailer trash, high school dropout, failed Nas imitator — is shit, he knows he's shit, and while he has the talent and the demonstrated ability to transcend his fecal origins, he has again and again thrown himself into the sewer. It is the place he feels he belongs, perhaps, a domain of self-loathing ruled by ressentiment, a fetid funfair of novelty and corny jokes and low culture and — of course! — "offensive" lines, the kind that each year become more obligatory and delivered more mechanically. You could blame "Fack" or "Just Lose It" or "We Made You" on the drugs, but you could blame them even more expertly on Eminem's self-loathing, the way he knows that someone like him doesn't deserve to be celebrated. "Houdini" is terribly unpleasant, and perhaps more so because it's the sunset of rappity-rap "awfully hot coffee pot" Eminem and the carnivalesque return of Pop Eminem, of Trickster Eminem, of Edgelord Eminem (who was an edgelord long before the term was invented). He flips a sample of the Steve Miller Band's cocaine clammy "Abracadabra," and one could fault him for rhyming that title with "I'm back, bruh," except that it's no worse than the original "reach out and grab ya": each is the kind of line that you're trying to forget you just snorted off the back of the seat of a john. I don't think Eminem takes shots at Megan Thee Stallion or trans people in this song because he bears them any antipathy; he can't even bring himself to actually form a coherent thought on these subjects. (You can hear YouTube personalities cueing up their "Eminem REACTS to the TRANS issue" overlays, because they, like he, know that he doesn't have to REACT in any specific way for it to matter.) If ever this worked, it's because Eminem could once claim his ablutions channeled the dark awfulness of America, but his country's most reprehensible impulses have changed since 1999, and he's now unwilling or unable to commit entirely to being an avatar for them, nor to repudiate them. I despise him for his ambivalences: he's 50 years old and still wanting to mine transphobia and homophobia and misogyny for effect, but unlike in his younger days, when he would dare to say he wanted to hate-crime me, he today hides in feet puns and word games about Siamese cats. I might imagine it's deliberate. He's not an asshole; shit comes out of assholes. He's a turd — and one who knows he's a turd, who wants to prove again and again that he's a turd in case anyone might dare to imagine otherwise.  [1]
Wayne Weizhen Zhang: Not worth the line-by-line thinkpiece. If we collectively ignore it, maybe it’ll follow its central conceit and disappear.  [0]
Hannah Jocelyn: I’ve always been fascinated by Eminem, especially as someone who went to summer camp in 2010, and I've recently been messaging with the writer Holly Boson about her in-progress book on all matters concerning Marshall. Her writing on that is phenomenal and meticulous, and it helps me understand why he’s Like That, for better or worse. Unfortunately, even with her context, the deliberate self-parody and self-referencing on "Houdini" are grating; there's nothing subversive anymore. The Megan Thee Stallion joke doesn't work as shock value or as self-deprecation, and I feel the same way about the faux-transphobic lines: I'm not offended by their presence, I'm offended that they're lazy retreads of The One Joke. We know you have a non-binary kid! Similarly, the "Girl Scouts" and "participation trophies" lines ironically repeat buzzwords that aren't even used ironically anymore; the culture has shifted past passive-aggression and toward outright hostility. Isn't he supposed to be pushing boundaries or something? That all extends to the production -- thankfully it's better than the blown-out abrasiveness of Revival, but it's basically slapping the percussion track from any older song of his over an uninspired flip of a mostly forgotten early-'80s AOR song. We're left with Em, his stilted delivery, and his trademark off-key singing, given nowhere to hide. He’s done worse, but that had its own shock value; the "abracadabra" and "bag-bruh" rhyme makes me long for even 2018, when we had "vnmmmmmadrenalinemomentmmmmmm." [3]
Dave Moore: I gave up being a card-carrying Eminemologist 20 years ago, so my sense that this is a somewhat limp but lightly amusing rehash of previous styles is a weak (and therefore malleable) take -- one that probably can't, for instance, withstand the torrent of context, analysis, and provocative tangents that Holly Boson, the only critic I really trust on modern Eminem, can bring to the picture. So: provisionally mediocre.  [6]
Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: I genuinely appreciate how high concept this is — the length of history weighs upon Eminem, a quarter century of stardom encircling him and dragging him back through his own excesses. But god, what an unpleasant piece of music. "Without Me," this track's precursor, made the case that this guy truly was one-of-one, an auteur of crassness that could make cut-rate circus music sound like the most interesting thing in pop. "Houdini" doesn't do any of that. Instead, we get Steve Miller karaoke and enough shtick that one must consider the possibility that this sounds this bad on purpose. [3]
TA Inskeep: Granted, I've never been a fan, but this shit is just embarrassing, a return to his bullshit pop-cult insult-comic days atop a painfully obvious sample. Give it up, man.  [0]
Oliver Maier: There's something pleasingly coherent about Eminem soundtracking his fifth or sixth song about how not-washed he is with a Steve Miller Band song that my dad used to play on the car in between Dire Straits and Californication. On the other hand, the intent is clearly a sonic callback to the snotty "Without Me" beat, which makes me like it less. More tiresome to me than the chortling outrage bait about his transgender cat are the many parts of this song where Eminem farts out callbacks to his hits, as if that will help make the case that his best days are not behind him. He's not even referencing the good stuff! Whose favourite part of "Without Me" is the bit where Eminem repeats "guess who's back?" through a pitch shifter?  [3]
Katherine St. Asaph: There's nothing inherently useless about bringing Slim Shady back, back again -- the concept is integral to the undeniably best Eminem song of the 2020s, "Eminem Becomes a Second Century Warlord." But this is the musical equivalent of celebrating your 50th birthday by spending the whole day on 4chan for old times' sake. 50 is also about the age you'd find Steve Miller cool. [1]
Alfred Soto: Sure, the "Abracadabra" sample is lazy as fuck, but it's the catchiest thing in an Eminem single since the Obama presidency. The incomprehensible stupidity of the chorus has to be a Dada-esque prank.  [4]
Will Adams: It's amusing how the hook goes "and for my last trick!", as if he ever had more than one. Ever the hot-button issue provocateur, Em makes references to Megan Thee Stallion getting shot (which was four years ago), attack-helicopter humor (also four years ago), participation trophies (seven years ago), and R. Kelly and urination (21 years), while also exhuming several of his hits that are over two decades old as if he's truly pulling back the curtain on the State Of The World today. Even the video, wherein a 2002 Slim Shady steps through a time portal to 2024 and grimaces at his surroundings (a pink-clad influencer taking selfies; robot delivery carts; a man wearing a VR headset), brings less to mind an insightful lyricist than someone whose brain has been melted by Facebook and Fox News. [0]
Andrew Karpan: Yet again, the unfortunate lore of rap records making fun of Megan Thee Stallion for literally getting shot has grown, now coming in the form of self-conscious shock jock antics from one of the original progenitors of the sport itself. The arc of the pop universe is long, but it always bends backwards, toward itself. Em’s most inspired move is choosing to flip one of the most unpleasant pop songs of all time, literally “the sort of song that immediately scans as garden-variety bad and then becomes worse when you think about it more.” And here it is, all over again, somehow made even worse. [1]
Taylor Alatorre: Music Critic Gives Low Score To New Eminem Single, ‘But Not Because He’s Offended By It Or Anything’ [1]
Mark Sinker: he’s still got it, he’s the pompatus of dril  [8]
Brad Shoup: He's a technician, sure, but his certification lapsed in the Obama administration. There was perverse pleasure to be had in his baroque era, as he tried everything to keep himself awake: silly little voices, endless enjambment, doubletime lectures. In a sense, "Houdini" is a throwback: Eminem's dogshit lead single that still hits #1. But outside of the Sherri Papini joke at the end, there's literally no joke here that hasn't long been ground into dust. (Honestly, it's quite possible he wrote everything backwards from the Papini/Houdini rhyme.) He's been a hack for like two decades now—Criss Angel frowning in an Army cap—but here, his big reveal is that he's a hack with delusions: the defining archetype of the crumbling American empire. Being a mediocre tryhard is incredible work, but he's got an amazing support network.  [1]
Ian Mathers: I know Eminem apparently has tons of different flows, but this feels like the same one (or same subset, I guess) that he always uses. And it's boring. I'm sure that on a technical level the rapping here is good, but I'm bored. I know I'm supposed to be either outraged or delighted, but I'm bored. I know there's all kinds of shit to see in the video, but I'm bored. I know I'm supposed to love or hate nabbing the chorus from a mid Steve Miller Band song ("Fly Like an Eagle" or nothing tbh), but. I'm. BORED. [2]
Jeffrey Brister: No level of technical ability can cover up what are just warmed over redpill talking points. I suppose this was always going to happen. But all of these grievances were tired and played out nearly a decade ago, and hearing an out-of-touch former pop star regurgitate them like he’s ringing an alarm bell would be funny if it wasn’t so enervating. [1]
Aaron Bergstrom: From Steve Albini to Violent J and beyond, we as a music-loving populace have demonstrated that we are endlessly willing (maybe too willing) to forgive decades of braindead edgelord nonsense at even the tiniest gesture of an apology. I mean, we have now largely rehabilitated Fred Durst. No white man has to be the hateful idiot he was at 18, or even the hateful idiot he was at 40. There's always an off-ramp nearby. And so, as I slogged through the humiliating spectre of a 51-year-old man trying to land a RuPaul joke in 2024, I couldn't stop thinking about how many chances Marshall Mathers has had to be... not this. Just literally anything but this. And yet here we are. [0]
Scott Mildenhall: Only Marshall Mathers' changed Eminem party can give this world its future back. With the bold promise of no new ideas, it offers a timely reminder that atrophy can be disguised as stasis, providing that improvement is not an option. So why ever seek it? Now is all you have ever had, and this is what now is. A trademark brand of overengineered rhymes whose tragedy belies their intermittent imagination. Things can only continue. [2]
Nortey Dowuona: I understand that a lot of people feel the need to keep kicking the dead horse of "Eminem sucks," but I have to ask: if he actually made a good song that did not sound like what his fans want (warmed-over 1998 boom-bap nostalgia) or what his pop fans want (warmed-over 1999 Dr. Dre funk nostalgia), would there be a market for it? As any of his aging offspring would bitterly tell you, there is none. Eminem was trapped by choosing to become a massive popstar, not a consistent musician who kept developing. His entire style had spiraled into defanged repetition of trying to provoke anyone he knew by the time Encore rolled around, and by The Eminem Show, it was already over. Anyone who is engaging with Eminem's music -- especially this -- is either trapped in amber or stuck on a treadmill, trying their best to slay this frustrating old beast who attempts to keep going because there is no other outlet for his musical desires. He can't quit, only retread on your nostalgia until you turn your attention to other things, which is easier than ever. So I would ask you to respond to this with complete indifference. He wants your attention -- do not give it to him anymore. [0]

With the recent MTV VMAs, boy bands are back in the news. I’ve always loved the Backstreet Boys, but I never realized until recently how many amazing songs they actually have. Or that they first became famous in Europe/Germany, after touring & working nonstop. As a kid, I honestly preferred NSYNC. And although BSB doesn’t have a standout star like Justin Timberlake, they do have heart, soul, phenomenal voices, spectacular harmony, & are truly good vibes only. Unfortunately, Eminem began the mockery of boy bands, which has tainted the legacy of BSB. However, when looking back, it’s not hard to see why BSB always won the MTV TRL countdowns & had the biggest/most passionate fanbase. All members of BSB are truly talented, fantastic singers & they have stayed together & active all the way since 1993. Their voices pair perfectly with each other. Consider me a BSB fan for life!! 💙🩵💙🩵💙

2.
Tumblr media
wwcd by griselda. premium coke rap lol. the griselda guys' collaborative magnum opus imo. it's their only full album all three of them but they're all made collab albums with each other at one point or another. on this album they are all top of their game 100%. the only. only. critique i have of this album is them including eminem on a remix after the outro. just doesn't fit on the album at all imo. otherwise it's a 10.

↳ i got that can’t stop, won’t stop in my veins
i. phenomenal - eminem // ii. headlines- drake // iii. heart of a champion- nelly // iv. remember the name - font minor // v. a cut above - avery watts // vi. mirror - lil wayne // vii. vices - ludacris // viii. right above it - lil wayne // ix. live forever - liam payne, cheat codes // x. take me back to london - ed sheeran, stormzy, aitch // xi. home -bebe rexha, mgk, and x ambassadors // xii.  wavin’ flag (coca-cola celebration mix) - k’naan // xiii. come on england -442 // xiv. you’re welcome- dwayne johnson // xv. hard - rihanna, jeezy // xvi. all i do is win - dj khalid xvii. fight back -NEFFEX [LISTEN]
that’s why they can’t stop, won’t stop screaming the name↵
beware: my unnecessary commentary below xD
i. phenomenal - eminem however long that it takes, I'll go to whatever lengths, It's gonna make me a monster though
this song represents the lengths ethan is willing to go to turn his career around not to mention the fact he does actually think he's phenomenal. i'm also a giant sucker for some monster vs man parallels and him grappling with what makes a good man. and finally, this song is numero uno on his before match pump-up playlist.
ii. headlines- drake I might be too strung out on compliments, overdosed on confidence, started not to give a fuck and stopped fearing the consequence
this song represents ethan currently. he thought he was untouchable and was finally going to realize his dreams, but he let his temper and his fame get the better of him and now he must dodge the headlines and rehab his image in small town USA.
iii. heart of a champion- nelly I got that can't stop, won't stop, in my veins that's why they can't stop, won't stop, screaming the name
this one emphasizes the heart of a champion and the hard work it took for ethan to become a successful athlete. i also like the whole heart comparison because i like to think that ethan has a good heart beneath the muscles and 99% of the time he means well (even if his methods are unconventional). this is also on his personal locker room playlist.
iv. remember the name - font minor this is 10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will, 5% pleasure, 50% percent pain, and a 100% reason to remember the name
ethan was born into a soccer royalty (think beckham level). his surname is both a blessing and curse and ethan wants nothing more than for people to remember his name apart from his family and to prove himself worthy of it.
v. a cut above - avery watts what it looks like (looks like) being the best what it looks like, to be a cut above the rest
for no other reason than the fact that ethan really is that good on the pitch, like ronaldo level skills. but ofc being "a cut above the rest" isn't always enough and also does come with responsibilities off the pitch that he's still working on.
vi. mirror - lil wayne lookin' at me now I can see my past, damn I look just like my fuckin' dad
this one goes out daddy dearest, someone ethan always used to look up to until he practically disowned him for messing up at the world cup. they no longer talk, reminding ethan that he needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror and pave his own way.
vii. vices - ludacris from philly to the bay, the only loyal b*tch I know is a loyal b*tch named tanqueray she gets me right everytime it ain't never no fussing or fighting
obvi ethan has his vices. he likes to go out, party, drink, hook-up, but never commit. therefore his longest and most loyal relationship is with a pretty little bottle of tanqueray. whoops.
viii. right above it - lil wayne & drake life is a beach, i'm just playing in the sand
a nod to life before the world cup. he was living a lavish lifestyle with parties, money etc. and enjoying his success a little too much until it all came crashing down. i just imagine this being the song in the background to a partying montage lmao. ps it was so hard to just pick one line to highlight, and this is totally on his personal playlist too.
ix. live forever - liam payne, cheat codes reckless, restless I let it get so hectic all the way up with my head in the sky, too much, too gone, too many, too fun I don't know how but I got out alive
fun fact: ethan's first fc like ten years ago was liam payne, so this one is selfishly for me since i just had to throw him in here somewhere. BUT this is another nod to him losing sight of the bigger picture and getting too reckless. it also touches on everything changing when meeting someone special who can make you want to let go of your old ways which is something i truly want for ethan.
x. take me back to london - ed sheeran, stormzy, aitch I hit my friends up, go straight to the pub 'cause I haven't been home in time..so take me back to london
despite losing the world cup for england, ethan still loves everything about his being an englishmen and his home town. he just honestly just wants to go home, get back on the pitch, and grab a print with his buddies. he won't admit it, but he misses how things were before cape may.
xi. home -bebe rexha, mgk, and x ambassadors Now tell me, how did all my dreams turn to nightmares? How did I lose it when I was right there?
ethan felt like he was on top of the world and then it came crashing down. suddenly nothing makes sense anymore, and everything he's ever known isn’t quite right.
xii.  wavin’ flag (coca-cola celebration mix) - k’naan see the champions take the field now you define us, make us feel proud
S/O to the little kid that ethan lost sight of, the kid with big dreams of scoring in the world cup just to make his dad and country proud. i like to think this is a song that reminds ethan of watching his dad play in the world cup and knowing that one day he'd be out there, too.
xiii. come on england -442 one-nil, two-nil, three-nil, four-nil, FIVE! keep this country's dream alive
a song/chant dedicated to all of ethan's hero's growing up, one's he's probably met and even played with at some point now. ngl he's probably been remixed into a song like this too so also a nod to that. plus, this one SCREAMS country pride.
xiv. you’re welcome- dwayne THE ROCK johnson i know it's a lot the hair, the bod when you're staring at a demi-god
I chose this song not only because ethan is full of himself like maui BUT because this grown ass man absolutely loves the movie moana and has no problem belting it at the top of lungs. I like to think it’s gotten to the point where it’s been remixed into one of his footy chants whenever he scores a goal.  Half the crowd : What can Wood say except…  The other half: You’re welcome! All together now: YOU’RE WELCOME! YOU’RE WELCOME! YOU’RE WELCOME!
xv. hard - rihanna, jeezy They can say whatever, I'ma do whatever no pain is forever, yup, you know this
to me, this song has a message of strength and perseverance especially when it comes to gossip and the media which is something ethan struggles with. also, ethan's ultimate celeb crush is 100% rihanna. like he had a poster of her on his wall growing up and everything.
xvi. all i do is win - dj khalid all I do is win win win no matter what, got money on my mind I can never get enough
this song is dedicated to ethan's brothers. at one point before they stopped being so close, they deemed this their song. they had this silly little dream of being on same team together and just dominating the competition, but ofc life happens and this dream was never realized but the song still makes ethan think of his bros.
xvii. fight back -NEFFEX don't tell me you believe that, are you just gonna take that? or will you fucking fight back?
this is the song i imagine plays in the background whenever ethan gives into his temper, doubts himself (yes, it does happen on the rare occasion lol), fights, and gets real angry. it's also not lost on me that this is the last song on the playlist and "phenomenal" is the the first song because i just adore the juxtaposition of the two songs. his confidence vs that little voice in his head that tells him that maybe, just maybe (if you squint and tilt your head the side) he's not good enough.
k im done. god bless if you read all that <3 if anything this makes for a pretty fab workout/ pump-up playlist imo.
