i have no clue what's going on w/ the hiring process for the job offer i got yesterday, but at least it seems like nobody at the post office does either. 🙃

#ctxt #charlie vs mail #got a call from some guy at the regional sorting facility like 'uuh yeah just drop in to your PO whenever for fingerprinting'#so i show up in shorts & a t-shirt as a stop along a multi-errand trip bc my impression was that this is just a part of the background check #woman doing my prints was like 'idk if anyone's here to speak with you today but we can check'#me still thinkin it's just a casual meet/greet 'oh no worries haha! btw i got the job offer before having even 1 interview is that normal?'#she doesn't know but leads me around until we find someone buried under a stack of paperwork at her desk #'hi [redacted!] charlie is here for their interview!'#redacted peers over his monitor like a deer in headlights 'who is here for their what now??? oh uuuhh gimme a minute uuuhhhhh'#i'm sweatinnnmng like i'm wearing my birks i am massively underprepared but ok i guess we're doing this & they already offered me the job so #redacted also seemed to be panicking a lil bc the person who usually does these interviews isn't even in today #we had a moment of 'so we're both utterly blindsided here right?' 'yeah can we reschedule?' 'yes god please let's reschedule'#so i'm going back thursday for an actual interview. after already completing background check & filling out tax paperwork #get home to an email from the dude who called me this morning like 'btw dress business casual for your fingerprinting & bring XYZ'#but still stating nowhere that the implication was that fingerprinting & interview would happen concurrently????#this is a federal institution & the second largest employer in the US. get ur shit together !!!#hoping it's not gonna be a black mark that i showed up in my casual summer clothes without the necessary docs #but tbf to me the expectations were hella unclear like i wasn't even given a point of contact for an onboarding supervisor until today #since they were also drastically underprepared i hope it'll just be water under the bridge & we can properly meet thursday #hands down weirdest hiring/onboarding process i've ever gone through but fuck it we ball

you can honestly just mind your own business, doing your job like always, and then a customer will just drop some of the most batshit insane lore about their lives to you completely unprompted like it's nothing

Unfortunately all chatgpt is good for is interview/job application stuff which I think says a lot about the hiring process as a whole

#wrenfea.exe #as an actual artifical intelligence? no its horrible bc it really ISNT one #its a writing synthesizer it generates writing based on data searches and boundaries from training #thats what a neural network is its a very convoluted input-output sequence #it has no capacity to understand the meaning behind what it generates #it is simply generating the specific things that the user is looking for #the job interview process has become so robotic and automized that ai fits in perfectly #but employers HATE that people are turning to chatgpt for cover letters and interview answers #so it was fair for them to use filtering programs to accept/deny applications before it got in front of an actual human being #and its ok for them to use ai and pre-written formats to make job announcements descriptions and interview questions #but god forbid we are forced to use those exact same tools to get a humans attention so we can get a job and not starve #pushing aside the whole copyright debate on chatgpt and the environmental impact of its power usage btw #im soley analyzing how its become commonly utilized on both sides #by interviewer and interviewed #the mechanization of the whole process is now on both sides #it just seems very inhuman..#its also how some people have figured out how to somehow become employed multiple times by the same company due to lack of human oversight #and how automated theyve made their hiring process #probably should have made these tags into a separate reblog oops #also disclaimer do not cut and paste right into your application materials bc chatgpt often just lies #also many places now can tell you used chatgpt due to how similar its answers are #i only use it to make a template and see how things can be phrased to be more professional and buzzwordy #id never use it for something actually creative #and dear god do not write academic essays with it #i tried using it to supplement my own cover letter template but it was too robotic even for a cover letter #it is very good at accessing and summarizing publically available information #thats all it does not make sure the information is true or good

Almost lose Harry Kim to a time stream but he saves himself with Tom

Lose your mind by touching a special distortion ring, everyone’s saved by doing nothing

Send two bickering crew men to a planet to adopt a lizard baby

Get so stressed out you get sent to the Holodeck for some “me time” only to think you’ve lost your whole dang mind

Almost lose Chakotay again, this time with racist vibes

Almost lose everyone to the second Caretaker

Chakotay runs off after Seska and the Kazon, have to save him

Get adopted by a delusional father only for him to die in your arms

Almost lose B’Elanna to a robot race

Try to make friends only for it to blow up in your face

Become a mutant and have 3 salamander babies with your helm officer only for Chakotay and Tuvok to abandon them

A crewman gets murdered, then you almost lose Tuvok to mind melding with the murderer

Order everyone to escape pods cause your chief engineer hijacked a sentient bomb

Put Q on trial only for him to off himself

Your EMH develops more feelings, your helmsman is acting up

Neelix stumbles on your plot with Tuvok and Paris, Chakotay gets jealous

Your ship gets duplicated and you face off with yourself about who gets to blow their Voyager up first

Almost lose Tuvok to some old kids

Almost lose Harry until you literally vanquish fear

Almost lose Tuvok and Neelix to Tuvix and a terrible moral quandary but ultimately — kill Tuvix

Get stranded on planet with Chakotay because you both got bitten with an unresolved sexual tension virus, but the crew disobeys orders and saves you anyway

Try to save Chakotay’s baby only to lose the ship and get the whole crew stranded on a planet

#A+ season would watch again for the millionth time #like NO WONDER her emotional life is all bottled up #she’s barely into the journey and all this shit has gone down and everyone’s showing their tail #like tamp all the emotions down otherwise we’re not getting through this #shit goes down take a breath pull yourself together get your head up and KEEP GOING #I mean process your issues but otherwise not the worst way to go about things #voyager infinite rewatch #season 2 also full of bangers with chakotay eps having the low points #very amused with this Star Trek voyager hiatus that is happening #I’m just amusing myself at this point #just waiting to hear back about employment and making shit without spending money or leaving the house really #idk what any and all of this says about my mental state but idrc #I’m just a person ranting about Star Trek sitting on my floor hand painting a bat’leth #memeish #meta

#ctxt #charlie vs mail #ooooohhhhhh my god just let me fucking work alreadyyyyyy #Job Got but now they're like...#well since you had a medical issue within the last 5 years we need a doctor's note confirming you're recovered enough to work #and if we don't get it by X date we'll assume you're no longer interested in the position & nuke you from orbit #like i do get it they're feds & bureaucracy reigns supreme.#& having disability documented will make it easier to get accommodations down the line if needed #but god it's frustrating that i've spent the last 2+ years LITERALLY BEGGING PLEADING W/ EMPLOYERS & DOCTORS TO BELIEVE THAT I'M DISABLED #had to see 4 doctors & go through 3 bosses before i found a provider willing to help me & get work accommodations #and now that i'm finally mostly healed from surgical complications & back to being more or less able-bodied...#NOW they wanna put me under a microscope & be like 'are you suuuuuuure you can really do this job?? PROVE IT.'#bitch i wouldn't have applied in the first place if i wasn't confident that i'm far enough along in recovery to do the damn thing #two extremes on the spectrum i guess #from 'pissing on the clock during an 8.5 hr shift? unnecessary. stop faking or we'll fucking fire you'#to 'sure ur surgery was over 2 years ago & ur almost ready to graduate PT & ur symptoms are effectively managed....
