Match 5: Conductor's Divorce vs Snatcher x Reader

In an astonishing display of the unreliability of statistics (more on this in the next post), Conductor Divorce takes the round with 68.9% (or 62 of 90 votes). This is probably our most unexpected result so far, for me at least. Will Conductor's Divorce be able to prove its resilience against DiscoTrain?

Match 6: Cooking Cat/Snatcher vs Cooking Cat/Empress

With the Hat fanbase taking a firm stance against furry/human pairings, Subway Sandwich wins the poll with 74% (57 of 77 votes). Sweetened Deal's small but enthusiastic supporters did still sway 20 people, however!

With this matchup's conclusion, Snatcher has been almost entirely eliminated from the bracket. He's lost by a margin of around 30 to 50% in every single match but one—which was a poll between two Snatcher pairings.

Match 7: Mafia Bartender/Mafia Boss vs Queen Vanessa/Ms. Pauling from Team Fortress 2

Although Bartender/Boss put up a strong fight, Paulessa sweeps the round with 64.2% (52 of 81 votes.) Maybe it wasn't fair to put one of the most popular pairings of all time in the bracket?

Match 8: Badge Seller/Twilight Goat vs Tim the CEO of Time/Thor

One of the most evenly split polls so far, Badge Seller/Twigoat narrowly wins with 52.5% (53 of 101 votes). Tim/Thor had some very vocal supporters in the tags, so I'm glad I chose to include it on the poll last minute. (I had an open slot I'd been struggling to fill. If I couldn't figure anything out, I was going to put Reigen from Mob Psycho 100.)

i commonly see it interpreted as snatcher n cc acting as hats parents and while that's sweet its not how i see it at all. i like them a lot more as her adult friends who take care of her every now and then but ultimately leave and trust her to handle her stuff, not taking that much responsibility. im not sure what thatd entail but older sibling snatcher (to hat) is kind of fun i guess. EMPRESS IS BOWS AUNT FOREVER THOUGH this im hellbent on.

ok i think i wanna talk about how ccs relationship w hat n snatcher developed. i always thought of cc as someone hat is the most verbal with, relying everything that's happened to her to him. while enthralled, proud and concerned, i dont think ccs that protective of her, hes shown to be much less responsible than people usually write her as tbh. she trusts hats capabilities n skills but still definitely recognizes that she is a child in need of support, and shes certainly warm and affectionate with her, but at the same time its not intruding or obligate, like a parents affection.

i think cc would be somewhat intrigued by what's up w snatcher because their behavior is so puzzling, probably especially so from hats retellings. once snatcher becomes a regular on hats ship (not his territory=cant assert hinself as much as he does in forest), where they probably meet, i dont think shed be intimidated at all, because i dont honestly think hed try to create that impression (it certainly didn't in the cut cafe scene. like, youd expect them to force someone to pay for them, but they're just kinda docile. they cant even get the people around them to answer their question lol)

i think snatchers like immediately completely pacified by ccs presence. i dont think theyd speak at all either. its lije those silent films where you have to rely on expressions and body language to tell what means what. its a little funny abd disarming because its clear they DO want to get something across, and thats a friendly gesture. it signals engagement abd cintact being established. snatcher would probably struggle with non scripted speech so this sort of communication would probably feel the least threatening. also would add to their already strange and interesting image in ccs mind

while idk how likely snatchers would be to actually do that ive been imagining him curling up in the pillows and napping only to wake up to cc sleeping either on top of or near them, since cuddle piles are probably common among cats + ccs impulsive. they probably would straight up forget to react. maybe they wake up to cc kneading them, make eye contact. one of them remembers cat social cues and slow blinks. other one slow blinks back. snatcher lies back down allowing itself to be kneaded. cc lies down on it. it changes position to be closer to it. not a single word said the whole time. its never brought up again but not forgotten.

uhh if they do eventually begin dating and hats there to witness it she probably wouldnt care much. bow would go awwwww Aawww though. mu is disappointed in ccs taste but probably warms up to snatcher eventually since they have a lot in common + snatcher mu friendship real and important to me

in this case with "help each-other through the Horrors" I mean like. CC would help Emp recover from injuries and stuff. And Emp would be very protective of CC if something dangerous happened. And just in general they try to make things easier and safer for each-other. There's my thoughts.

this one is cute!!!! i used to be a little indifferent to it before but i have been awoken to the potential!! i like them as friends too though!! :)) i feel their dynamic would be empress being kinda aloof about approaching cooking cat tho until she gets to know cookie better. i put fandom does it better because they don't interact in canon but it'd be neat if they did!

this one is one of the few snatcher ships that i actually don't mind all that much! i think it's rather sweet and i definitely do see these two hanging out all the time when i think about them. i think they would enjoy being in one another's company, platonic or otherwise. i def like them as a qpr a lot. :)

Some of my fun findings from scrubbing around tags and fanwork stats while setting up the poll:

Breaking the typical fanwork trend, content that does not contain romantic shipping is more populous than content that does. More than half of unique works on AO3 are published under the General and/or Other categories.

By volume of content, the most popular romantic pairing is Conductor/Grooves.

By number of unique pairings, the most widely paired character is The Snatcher, but the only significantly populated ship tag is Snatcher x Reader. (Snatcher-Prince/Vanessa is not evaluated here, as the bulk of works tagged with this relationship are past/referenced.)

The second most widely-paired character is Conductor, with a much closer margin to Snatcher than I expected.

Hat Kid/Mustache Girl is less popular as a romantic pairing than I expected, but content featuring both characters that isn't explicitly romantic is one of the top tags.

Nearly every named character with more than a minute of screentime has an x reader or x OC tag with at least one post.

A whopping 13% of works in the AO3 main tag are crossovers. (AHiT has a considerably smaller sample size, but for comparison, only 5% of works under Star Wars are crossovers.) For some reason, 7% of crossovers are with Henry Stickmin.

If you exclude all of the top ten most frequently tagged characters, the most popular pairing among the remaining characters is Cooking Cat/Empress.
