This was the mission in Ep 177:

Basically Charles would reveal the secret of the Second Body since he considered that the current Daniel had somehow surpassed DG (of back then?). Daniel had also used the Body as it was designed (to fight, and fight A LOT).

How sad that back then I naïvely interpreted this as Charles' wish to elevate Daniel's hitherto unknown potentials when it was actually his egotistical method to trap the boy in intergenerational battles and crew wars. Almost like Charles wanted Daniel to become the pinnacle of the criminal underworld.

First, the OG notes from the outdated post:

→ This count is not about “which was the very first digimon-human contact”, and yes about people with a digivice. Because if we were going to count who was the first human to have contact with a digimon, it’s actually two and they’re Oikawa Yukio and Iori’s dad, Hida Hiroki.

→ I’m ignoring all the inconsistencies with other material (WS & ▽) because they seem to not match well with the original count. So, in this case, Ken’s statement in the anime (Aug 2000) is the one to be accounted for here. I don’t know if Ryo counts as Chosen (possibly yes, judging by 02 flashbacks) but I’m not sure where to place him here.

→ I’m only adding Michael to the count, even if he’s not a main character and yes a side character, because 02 ep 14 had this statement regarding him. And I like Michael too so, let me have him there :V

→ Menoa states in the movie she met Morphomon when she was nine, and according to the Dash X novel version, she’s the same age as Taichi. Which means she became a Chosen in 1997.

→ I couldn’t think of how to include Maki & Daigo’s group in this because ▽ contradicts with the original lore’s math – The fact the Pt4 book released with the movie on Japanese theaters state them being in Elementary School the time they went to their adventure in the DW, and later the confession scene means they’re in University/College makes them possibly been Chosen Children way before 1995, and I’d take it granted that they were chosen by someone else IF weren’t for the Homeostasis being involved in the scene and the digivice being way too modern for that time (it was basically Taichi group’s model. If you look at Rui’s digivice in the leaked footage from DigiFes2022, his model seems to be different and an older version)

→ That said, Meiko is the only character in ▽ that does not fall into contradiction with the math count. Because in 1999 there was not only Taichi’s group, but also other 8 non-featured Chosen according to Kakudou’s notes. So we can consider Meiko one of those other 8 children.

→ When it comes to Wallace, I prefer to think he is game in the original math – Taichi and Hikari met that Koromon in 95, but they had no digivice until 1999. Which means it can be possible that Wallace had encountered Gummy-Choco’s egg before 1995 and only became an official Chosen Child later.

Now, the new notes:

→ To avoid spoiling any detail about the movie itself, I’ll make sure to tell you they might have changed how the math works only. It’s not like, “everyone gets a digimon at the same time” but rather… “A X number of people get partnered with a digimon in different periods of a year” – Which means yes, you can still count Rui and Ukkomon as the origins of the Digimon partnership, but that later in the same year someone else (or, say, Wallace in the main timeline) got a partner months later.

→ That said, I’m opting to update this list and work within the idea that various sources of partnership (Homeostasis, Holy Beasts, etc) can be counted in the math. Remember – Homeostasis (not referred to as this in the OG series but yes in the novels) had selected Taichi & co., but the Holy Beasts chose Dai-Miya-Iori. And some other entity probably chose Ken in August 2000. This could explain why there’s a higher number of partnerships happening at the same time in Adv’99 and 02.

→ As I mentioned before, and indirectly supported by the staff (check the official timeline at the top of the list), ▽ has violated the lore to the point it goes in direct conflict with the new 02 movie and the entire timeline. So I guess it’s better to consider ▽ as its own timeline/Alternate universe than forcing it into the main timeline.

→ That said, and since Meiko does exist in Kizuna/main timeline, I suppose Maki and Daigo also do exist, and maybe they got their “ages” retconned and down to something suitable to the universe’s math count. They can still be part of the previous five kids mentioned in Adv’99 anime/novels, but they are probably around their teen years, or even early 20s instead, not fully adults working for the government I suppose. Or alternatively, just not Chosen yet. Pick your favorite route, Maki/Daigo fans!!

→ Yes, the Koromon from the very first movie IS NOT THE SAME PARTNERED WITH TAICHI. This never was confirmed, and was just fandom's theory. Considering how ▽ also made this mistake and possibly was one of the lore's violation, I prefer to believe this means it's not the same Koromon/Agumon partnered with Taichi in Adv'99.

Buddie 603 meta

This is more like a mini meta post to be honest, because it’s here to make just one point: Buddie is continuously presented exactly like every romantic couple on this show. TBH, in every ep where we get an in depth look at canonical romantic couples, we always witness how true it is. So it’s not just about the parallels in this mini meta post, it’s also about how this in an on going theme, as is highlighted when also looking at, for example, 414 and 512.

This week, the story wasn’t about Bobby or Bathena as a couple, it was clearly about how Athena is going to handle the possibility of a dark secret from her past and whether she would get to have closure. Yet, it did show us how a romantic couple tackles such a situation together. Bobby was there for her every step of the way, comforting and offering advice as well as the emotional support she needed. That’s exactly what we saw from Eddie during the Daniel reveal story arc, when Buck was confronted by his own dark secret haunting him from the past.

We also got the very obvious parallel of Athena hearing the gunshot and reacting immediately by running in that direction (without any thought of how dangerous that is), calling out Bobby’s name, similar to how in 506 we saw Buck hearing a gunshot, running there without any hesitation while calling out Eddie’s name (one out of several examples of Buck losing his cool and calling for Eddie when realizing he’s in danger).

And lastly, we had Bathena being a battle couple. This is actually a part of what 911 does in general, showing us romantic couples fighting together on the field no less than off it. Bobby and Athena don’t even have the same job, but much like Madney during their date in 313, their love means that when there’s a fight to be fought, they will take it on together. Once again, that parallels Buddie, who have pledged to be battlefield boyfriends, and have taken on so many fights together, both on and off the field.

Runners up: 608 - I Am Not Alone. 213 - Dragonfly in Amber. 101 - Sassenach. 202 - Not in Scotland Anymore. 512 - Never My Love.

3. 109 - The Reckoning - It's got the best of everything: fights, fury, affection, love, and sex. The hair-pulling kiss is the best kiss that's ever graced a television screen.

2. 107 - The Wedding - Beautifully done. We were rooting for them before that ep, but we fell in love with them as the episode progressed in a much deeper, more meaningful manner. Perfect television.

1. 306 - A. Malcolm - The best hour+ of television ever filmed. It's genuinely the definitive high point of all 7 seasons for me. The agony of their decades apart put so much on the line, and then we actually got PAY OFF for our suffering. I'm not an angst whore for the sake of wallowing in pain. I endure angst for the sake of the rush of long-term fulfillment. A. Malcolm had so much riding on it, and it was executed beautifully. The build up & the fulfillment. I'll never forget the way I felt the first time watching. I dream of the day media can make me feel this way again.

on wang ye's failing health.

during the final battle against Ma Xianhong at the end of Biyou Village arc, Wang Ye explains that the cost of manipulating time is to "burn up his own life force":

and the backlash is immediate (see also manhua ch. 296).

then, soon thereafter, we get more and more evidence that WY's physical body might be starting to deteriorate.

in the donghua adaptation (s5, ep. 11) of manhua ch. 305, the animators added in a shot of WY's bloodied toothbrush:

and after WY's first fight against Chen Jinkui (manhua chs. 374-378), we see the beginning of his strange symptomatology.

he gets a rash, that then disappears right before the doctor's eyes when he goes to the hospital.

upon returning briefly to Wudang (manhua ch. 404), his grandmaster notices as well.

then, when CJK attacks him again (manhua chs. 411-412), WY spits blood and starts bleeding from his nose...

...which ultimately results in him passing out.

and when WY wakes up on the remote island that CJK whisked him away to (manhua ch. 413), CJK tells him that he had a doctor friend run a bunch of tests on WY. except... the results were always very bizarre. he could test positive and be diagnosed with any number of things—and then immediately be perfectly healthy when they ran the tests again.

in short, something very strange is happening to WY's body.

(we learn he passes out again while escaping the island in manhua ch. 512 as well.)

but the kicker comes in manhua ch. 541, when we see WY holding some CT scans of what seem to be his own lungs.

it's different this time. despite trying two different hospitals and doctors, the results are the same. WY's symptoms are that of lung cancer.

that, finally, brings us to the most recent chapters (ch. 675)... where many cnetz have commented that WY looks exceptionally worn-out.

i'm not sure what the conclusion of this will be, though this cnetz here has some very cool theories. undoubtedly, though, using Feng-hou Qimen is negatively affecting WY's health.

so all i can say is... i really hope WY doesn't die.

Of all the regrets I have in this lifetime, the one that strikes most is that I’ve let myself run into walls. Introspection has never been clearer when you are all alone with your thoughts. Walls care about you the same way a brick does: it’s lifeless, emotionless, and any aspirations for a cathartic response is best left to dreams. I’ve let myself run into walls, old sport, and it repels as much as it repulses. To let myself run into a wall, filled with optimism, spells my demise. The end has been written in the stars, reflected on the fortune mirror, yet I elected to ignore. Then, you learn something about the wall: it may be lifeless, but it can make you atone.  Life has funny ways to tell you how deviance to the norm is as good as folly. But folly, in all sense of the word, is bliss. It's harmless, par for the course, even, yet it bites back when you don't even expect it to. It bites back, old sport. It really does.
