Jeremy Carver didn't get the respect he deserves in that pollsnatural writers poll. I need to remind y'all who was doing a lot of the heavy lifting when it came to early destiel. Jeremy Carver wrote (or, was credited as the writer) for the following:

3x11 "Mystery Spot" - not a destiel ep, just a banger 👍

4x03 "In the Beginning" - aka the first hint of Cas being sympathetic to Dean. 3 episodes into Cas's existence Jeremy Carver was asking the big questions, like what would it look like if Dean and Cas stared all soulfully into one another's eyes??? I MEAN,

4x20 "The Rapture" - the Jimmy Novak episode. Gave us Dean's tranquil fishing dream, Cas's note-passing interruption. Gave us all the conflict of Dean witnessing Jimmy Novak in place of Cas. Gave us that mic drop "I learned my lesson while I was away, Dean. I serve Heaven, I don't serve man. And I certainly don't serve you" hell of a walk-off line.

5x03 "Free to Be You and Me" - do I even need to expand on this one??? "I need your help because you are the ONLY one who will help me," Thelma and Louise quote, Bert and Ernie quote, "you are not gonna die a virgin," the Raphael confrontation, etc etc Dean tells Cas it's the happiest he's been in years!!!

5x08 "Changing Channels" - another classic episode that's great even without the undercurrent of destiel. But undercurrent there is. One of the recurring themes of the episode is Dean being worried about what Gabriel's doing to Cas. Plus, helloooo, "pretty boy angel" Jeremy Carver's horniness for Misha CAME THROUGH.

5x18 "Point of No Return" - do you all not remember "last person who looked at me like that, I got laid" do you all not remember "I gave EVERYTHING for you, and this is what you give to me????" do you all not remember "what the hell happened to him? / "me"???? And a sidenote: do you all not remember Cas carving a banishing sigil into HIS OWN CHEST?????? Again I say, Jeremy Carver's crush on Misha CAME THROUGH.

8x01 "We Need To Talk About Kevin" - I'm pretty sure at this point JC became showrunner, so there was a ~shift in the blatancy of destiel in his writing, but still. This ep is the start of the Purgatory flashbacks, the first peek at Dean's guilt over Cas not making it out with him.

8x23 "Sacrifice" - the 'ET goes home" bar scene, the dozens and dozens of pages worth of meta about cupid and the arrows and the two dudes falling in love in front of Dean and Cas.

9x01 "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here" - Dean's "please, man, I need you here" prayer to Cas, which miiiight be the first time he prays to Cas seriously. Their v. soft phone call sometime after where Dean is just as worried for Cas as Cas is for him. Plus, hey-o, would it be a Carver episode without objectifying Misha in some way? This is the ep with the infamous laundry scene, of Cas shucking off his clothes in a very poignant loss-of-identity horny way.

9x23 "Do You Believe in Miracles?" - uh, ever heard of "to save Dean Winchester. That was your goal, right? I mean, you draped yourself in the flag of heaven but ultimately it was all about saving one man" which is pretty much a Castiel thesis statement dropped casually as dialogue.

10x01 "Black" - okay, picture this, Cas is depressed and lying wantonly atop a bed, clad only in a robe that's open juuuust wide enough his chest peeks through. To Sam, he wistfully admits "I miss him" as they tiptoe around the subject of Dean. Fanfic, you say? No, Jeremy Carver.

10x23 "Brother's Keeper" - there's a deleted scene of Cas showing up in Dean's dream, bloody and beat up, introduced by the bartender as Dean's "admirer." Not to mention! Winchester Derangement Syndrome. Not to further mention!! Shattered at the altar of Winchester.

Did it ever occur to you that Kim's return to work was the unrealistic one and maybe not Adam's???? Kim should have been out longer than Adam and it was glossed over by Eid in an extremely bad fashion. She should have had to do the tests and even the therapy before stepping foot in that station back in S9. I know Gwen has gone back and forth with Upstead but this part is actually more realistic than injuries in the past (how many concussions has Hailey just walked away from and gone straight back to work with in previous seasons? She nearly got blown up in S9 and just dusted herself off; she's a badass but c'mon???)

Nowhere in my post did I say Adam’s return to work was unrealistic?? I actually agree that Kim should’ve been out longer. Pretty sure I voiced this back when the episodes were airing. I also wholeheartedly agree that Hailey’s injuries have been unrealistic. I also called out Kevin’s explosion scene last season too. I know it’s fictional tv, but I’ve almost always been pretty vocal about calling out some of the more unrealistic aspects of OC. Sure, you can’t blame Gwen for Kim’s s9 SL being unrealistic because she didn’t write those eps, but she did write Voight getting shot in 9x22 and being back on the job in 10x01 without the retread process. The point of my post from earlier was to point out the backbending Gwen’s been doing to justify why she’s going certain directions that, in the grand scheme of things, appear pulled out of thin air. It’s fine if being more “realistic” is her goal for the season. I’m here for that. All I ask is that there be some consistency with it

The Blacklist S10 Schedule

Several people have asked me how NBC can fit in all 22 episodes of Season 10 before summer with the show airing at 10 pm on Sundays, beginning Feb 26. I think the key piece of info is NBC's confirmation today that Magnum, P.I. in the 9 pm slot will have a 2-hour premiere on Sunday, Feb 19 and will have its 20 episode order split into two parts. It's not clear whether those parts will be exactly even at 10 & 10 or whether they will do an 8 & 12 split. Here's how things could work for The Blacklist - and it works best if Magnum only airs 8 eps in this first part.

February 26: Magnum P.I. 5x03 & The Blacklist 10x01

March 5: Magnum P.I. 5x04 & The Blacklist 10x02

a follow up to this post searching instances and usage of the word "bitch" in season one. @stepmommycrowley suggested searching the word "skank" next in the tags of that post so here are the findings!

Every instance of the word "skank" in the show:

It's only been used in 13 episodes total. Of those episodes only 6 of them have come from Dean. And of those 6 times, 4 instances were directed toward an antagonist. Only 2 times were they in reference to a non-demon / witch. And one of those two times, in 10x01 he was literally a demon. The other time (10x23) he was heavily under the MOC.

Here is the breakdown + examples from my spreadsheet (click to view larger)

This time I've also included a column with the writers of each episode. I also listed briefly in the "examples" section who the other people saying things were, just for reference. Quite a few times are actually other women using the word. And in 10x17 Dean used the word to call Rowena an "evil skank" and then Rowena uses the word again, taking it as a compliment, and saying "Here's to evil skanks." Not saying that excuses the writers using it or anything, but it is interesting to note a good portion of the non-Dean instances are coming from other women.

Anyways so, the writer breakdown. Whomst is responsible for making Dean use this word? Well of the 6 times Dean uses it, 3 of those times come from a Carver episode (and one of those eps is co-written with Singer). The other 3 times come from Edlund, Kripke, and Dabb. The two times Dean says it referring to a non-antagonist are in Carver episodes.

do you trust Gwen and the writers in relation to Jay and Upstead? I don't because Gwen showed in 9b that Vo*ght is above everything and how Jay was written (10x01 - 10x03) was tasteless and disrespectful

Hello. So I received a lot (and I mean a lot) of asks about Gwen, the writing, ruining Upstead, and all manner of asks like this so I thought I would just put my thoughts down in one spot for anyone who cares.

Being a showrunner is very different from being a writer or even the best writer in the writer’s room. As a writer you have time to focus on writing, coming up with ideas that fit the outline, discussing those ideas, you are supported in a different way and you support the show in a different way.

When you are a showrunner you have many masters to answer to, you are making a lot of calls with that in mind.

As far as Gwen is concerned, she is by all accounts a complete badass who worked her way up in the onechicago universe, wrote some of the best eps we have seen including crossovers, is loved and respected and was recognized for her amazing work and given this showrunner shot. No matter how I feel about 9B and Jesse’s exit, I will always celebrate this fact. In an often male dominated field, she’s crushed it.

I personally think that in the jump from writer to showrunner, it seems to me that maybe this was a case of wanting to please too many people and give everyone their storyline. And as a result I think 9B was discombobulated and focused in on things that may have pleased some of the lead actors but that the fans were less interested in. I can see what the strategy was but it fell flat in execution with the Anna / Voight storyline.

I also think the Jesse exit was terrible. Why reinvent the wheel on his whole character to justify this exit? Terrible IMHO. Why rewrite history in interviews? Honestly not sure we will ever know the answer nor will I ever get over it, but one thing is true that Jesse and Tracy acted their asses off.

I do get the sense that the Jesse exit happened without a lot of advance warning so we will have to see how they dig out of this hole. They probably knew they had Tracy’s talent to lean on and I believe they will lean on it heavily.

I do not personally feel super psyched about next steps but in Tracy I trust and where she goes I go. So for now, I am hanging in to the show for her only.

Has anyone directly compared 8x13/15x07 Aaron/Sheriff+Dean plus 10x01/15x07’s “triplets” yet? I just did it briefly on Twitter under the discussion of awkwardness, our episode’s most recurring theme, but like... these two topics together (and concerning dialogue and theme alone) would make such a good meta essay with visual comparative scene shots that I definitely don’t have time to write, lol. Maybe they both just needs a comparative gifset. Anybody seen any of that?

Asking my favorite PD related pages this: if you could have written Jay’s departure, what would you have done?

First of all, I’m honored🫶🏼

Second of all, ohh boy. Are we talking under the same conditions—aka 3 episodes in & no or uncertain likelihood of Jesse’s return? If so, here’s my three episode break down following s9:

10x01: I wouldn’t have changed the commendations. I think that was the logical outcome of the Escano case (Anna situation aside), and I enjoyed seeing them all together and in their blues. I would’ve had Voight off the job still with Jay unofficially spearheading the unit in the meantime. At the ceremony, instead of having Jay cover for Voight, I would’ve had the chief throwing off a comment about him being impressed with how seamlessly he took over for the team. They’d have a case, it’d wrap up well, and the episode would end with the team going out for drinks to celebrate the commendations - they invite Voight, but he doesn’t show up and it fades out to Jay glancing over at the empty chair they saved for Voight.

10x02: Voight would be back at work, but there would be a TON of rifts. A lot of it would be him dealing with the Anna stuff, but also the team readjusting to him calling shots instead of Jay. They’d have a high stakes case that would trigger Voight’s recklessness, Jay would try to reel him back in, but would ultimately be unsuccessful. This would be an upstead heavy episode, so I would have a home scene of them talking about what they should do about Voight. Hailey would try to say there’s nothing they can do, Jay would push back a little like he did in the finale—say he could try to save him from himself, but the conversation would end with them not fully reaching a resolution for how to move forward with Voight. Hailey would play a big role in this ep. She would be a voice of reason for the both of them as they work the case and manage Voight’s actions (kinda like she did in the actual s10 premiere).

10x03: Jay gets called to the Chief’s office. He again brings up being impressed with Jay’s leadership in Voight’s absence, and he asks if he’s considered what he wants his future at cpd to look like. Jay says he’s unsure, and the chief recommends he take the sergeant’s exam because the sergeant of another unit is retiring and he thinks he’d be a good fit. He immediately gets called onto a case, so he doesn’t get to fully think about it or talk it over with Hailey. This case hits close to home for Voight for whatever reason, and they find themselves butting heads again - Jay trying his best to keep him in line and Hailey trying to be the metaphorical line for the both of them. Voight ends up doing something that makes them have to cover for each other and that’s when Jay makes his decision. Hailey is super supportive of him moving up, but a little sad that she won’t have her partner anymore. He tells her how important it is that she stay in Intelligence because it’s gonna need a leader one day when Voight’s gone (a cute little parallel of him passing along the baton Voight gave him in s6).

In this scenario, Jay stays in Chicago and Hailey doesn’t have to go home to an empty apartment every night. Three episodes wasn’t nearly enough to give Jesse the exit he deserved, but it certainly was enough to do literally anything other than what they actually did. And I will forever be upset about that, so dreaming up this much more sensible alternative was very cathartic for me.

Found a website with great quality and it’s free and has all the eps and will have all the new eps (maybe just a day later) with no relation to NBC. If we want Jay back, we have to affect their wallets starting with 10x01. And that might mean we have to wait a day or two for the ep, but it also means that NBC/DW is not getting our views.
