ok so i am very much uninformed on politics, i decided at a younger age that i wasn't interested in it and therefore would not read or keep myself particularly informed about it. obviously this is a bad idea, and i want to change and keep myself informed on actual politics and well, abstract[?] (wrong word but cannot think of another, basically mean like. knowing which political .. stance ?? [idk. like marxist or communist or whatever] i might be.) ones as well. what's a good place to get started here? where do i look for actual politics going on in india since i'm pretty sure ndtv or whatever isn't exactly the best source? or maybe it is? idk, like i said i'm pretty uninformed on the matter but would like to learn more
so one thing is, in india you have to accept the media landscape is just dire because being a journalist with integrity is a bit like signing up to have your life ruined. all major media has been bought by hindutva already. what you have to do is more learn to read between lines, understand people's motivations, which is a matter of practice. a good way to start is to read analysis (not news reports) of the same incident in different media and you'll start noticing patterns. even more important imo is to talk and bounce ideas with a friend at a similar place as you or someone interested in politics who won't overwhelm you with their perspective. you can try online but idt its safe or advisable anymore to do that experiment online. i had debate club in university (sad) and some socialist reading groups (better) after. the thing is this journey to self education is kind of personal and im also not pedagogically oriented or trained? so lots of first person description instead of prescriptions.
i still check what's up on ndtv because it gives me a good pulse of what english language media and liberals are thinking. major newspapers i scan hindu and the indian express sometimes. online i have a look at newslaundry (also has some youtube content) and the wire, they're reader supported and haven't turned full hindutva yet. i read longer form things in the caravan and epw, but these are subscription based. i keep tabs on the latest round of hindutva fake news when alt news debunks it.
for the abstract things, i literally did an online course bc i was frustrated by what all the liberal arts grads seemed to already agree on. i did ian shapiro's moral foundations of politics which is available online as both youtube lectures and a textbook. if you want to go that route feel free but it's not necessary, you can also try to read the entries on wikipedia or stanford encyclopedia of philosophy (more expertise) when you encounter something unfamiliar and build up like that. podcasts like bbc in our time will often interview academics to give intros to many political philosophy concepts and thinkers. whatever your learning style supports! i think the important thing is to find something you are actually interested in, and take that tack. i like history, so i might read books about historical revolutions or historical forms of organising society or listen to podcasts like mike duncan's revolutions.
For communism the usual starting points are these very short pamphlets:
Principles of Communism by Engels
The Manifesto of the Communist Party by Marx
Wage-Labor and Capital by Marx
Socialism: Utopian and Scientific by Engels
feel free to ask for more specific questions!

Rebecca, a short, nerdy, and weak girl, had always imagined herself as a professional wrestler. She had spent countless hours practicing moves in her basement and idolizing the larger-than-life personalities that graced the Extreme Pro Wrestling (EPW) stage. Determined to make her dream a reality, she scoured the internet for any information on how to land a tryout. Months of relentless searching finally paid off when she stumbled upon a obscure email address belonging to one of the EPW coaches. In a bold move, she sent an email detailing her passion for wrestling and pleading for a chance to audition. To her surprise, not only did the coach respond, but they also gave her a date and time for the tryout. Rebecca couldn't believe her luck.
The day of the tryout finally arrived, and Rebecca nervously made her way to the EPW training center. As she waited in the lobby, she began to question her decision. The other girls who were trying out were all tall, muscular, and oozing charisma. In comparison, Rebecca felt small, weak, and unremarkable. Her self-doubt was only amplified when she was finally called in to meet with the coaches. They took one look at her and shook their heads. They told her that she had the heart and determination they were looking for, but her physique simply wasn't up to par with the standards of the company.
Rebecca performed all the basic moves that she picked up from years of watching. She hit the ropes right and was able to take bumps and sell. She easily began to sweat as one coach called her to a corner of the gym.
"Look kid, you've got heart. You've got the drive. But you need to look the part," he told her. “You have to look to the crowd and make them believe you can beat anyone. While making the men drool over you. You're not quite there yet. But we can help you wit that." He reached into his pocket and pulled out small vial filled with a clear liquid. "This is an experimental steroid. It'll make you stronger, faster, and maybe add a few needed curves. And who knows? Maybe it'll give you what it takes to make it big in this business." He held it out to her, the silver cap glinting in the dim light.
Rebecca hesitated for a moment, her heart racing with anticipation and fear. She had never considered taking steroids before, but she knew this was her one chance to make it. She took a deep breath and reached out, grasping the vial tightly in her hand. "I'll do it," she said, her voice steady despite the butterflies in her stomach. "I'll take the risk. Just give me a chance."
The coach smiled, a gleam of approval in his eye. "Alright, kid. But remember, it's an experimental drug. The effects aren't guaranteed, and there could be side effects down the line. But we think you're strong enough to handle it." He placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder before nodding toward the locker room. "Go on, get changed into something more comfortable. Then come back out here and we'll see what you look like after a shot of this stuff."
Rebecca hurried into the locker room, her heart pounding with excitement and fear. She took out the vial. She removed her baggy shirt revealing her petite frame as she sighed at her reflection in the mirror.
She drew the needle and carefully injected the steroid into her muscle. As soon as the liquid entered her body, she felt a surge of energy flow through her veins. She flexed her arm and felt her muscles tighten and grow. Her face flushed with excitement. She couldn't believe it was really happening. Her vision became blurry as she took her glasses off and saw everything clearly.
Rebecca grunted “Whoa this stuff really works!”
Rebecca began to feel the full effects of the steroids coursing through her system. Her muscles swelled and hardened, and she grew three inches taller. Her once gangly legs now had the definition and strength of a seasoned athlete yet still had the grace and femininity of a dancer. Her short black hair grew longer as it flowed down her back.
She looked down at her body and gasped. She had thicker thighs as she peeled off her sweatpants. Her once loose underwear was now tight upon her body as she smiled with glee. She turned her head to witness her ass gain more mass as it became a mound of muscle and fat. Rebecca curled her lips as she purred in enjoyment of the sight. Her back began to ripple with new power as the steroid multiplied muscle all over. “Unnnh yes!” Rebecca moaned. “Make me strong…. Make me fucking sexy!”
Rebecca shuddered feeling a great amount of pleasure as she flexed in the mirror. Her arms definitely were no longer sticks but packed with power as her biceps looked perfectly symmetrical. She looked at her abs that looked chiseled from stone.
Her breasts, however, were the center of attention. They had sprouted from her chest like blooming flowers. They were bigger now, fuller and rounder. Her once flat chest had been replaced by a pair of perfect, round orbs that made her feel more womanly. They jiggled slightly with each breath, drawing attention to her newly defined cleavage. Rebecca couldn’t help but feel as her eyes rolled back in ecstasy.
“I’m a star!” She squealed. It took a good amount of willpower for her to stop staring at her body as she exited to return for her tryout.
The other girls in the gym watched in awe as Rebecca walked back out onto the floor. Her movements were confident and powerful, unlike anything they had ever seen before. As she began to perform the drills, the other coaches joined in, all of them unable to tear their eyes away from this incredible display of athleticism and grace.
Rebecca's muscles rippled with every movement, her strength evident in every leap and spin. She executed each drill flawlessly, her coordination and agility far surpassing anything the coaches had ever seen from her before. Even the most experienced gymnasts on the team couldn't help but feel a hint of envy as they watched Rebecca soar through the air, her body seemingly weightless and effortless.
The coaches exchanged glances, their expressions a mixture of awe and disbelief. They knew that they were witnessing something truly special, something that could potentially change the course of the entire season. As Rebecca finished her final routine, the room erupted in applause, the other girls cheering just as loudly as they would for their own teammate.
Rebecca stepped off the mat, her chest heaving as she fought to catch her breath. She couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment wash over her. She had never felt stronger, faster, or more agile in her life. She looked up at the coaches, who were now surrounded by the other team members, their expressions unreadable.
The owner of the promotion , Mr. Jenkins, finally made his way through the crowd. He was an intimidating figure, tall and broad shouldered, with a stern face that often left newcomers feeling uneasy. As he approached Rebecca, she tried to steady her breath and compose herself.
"Rebecca," she managed to say, her voice slightly shaky. "Rebecca Garcia."
Mr. Jenkins nodded, his expression unreadable. "Rebecca," he said, his voice booming across the gym. "I must say, I've never seen anything like that in my entire career. You are truly a remarkable young woman." He paused, taking a step closer to her. "We are going to make you a star. We’ll call you Roxy Garcia.”

...oh, hi.
hi!
dear god it's been so long. where the hell were you guys?
i felt every single moment of that loneliness
every
single
one
aSB0aGluayBp
...sorry. i don't know what that was.
uhm... okay, okay, i remember what we're doing now
so everyone's saying the chirping room, huh?
that makes sense. well, if my guess is correct. we'll see. worst case scenario, i'll just leave... as long as i don't get hurt?
what could possibly hurt me...??
i make my way through the door and realize the tunnel to the room itself is much much longer than the one leading to the flooded room.
i try not to think about anything
it's actually easy not to think about anything, really
for me
is that the case for you?
should i always be this "empty"?
it's not like i have anything else to go off of. i don't know anyone. i don't even know you guys. you're just weird little whispers, i'm not even sure if any of you are real
i want you to be
is that weird?
oh, hey, i see light.
and the chirping is getting louder. it sounds like crickets. the air smells like rain.
a few moments later, the ground below me becomes soft, springy- moss?
i look above.
Tumblr media
oh.
trees, everywhere. it feels so nice in here...
and it's all green! maybe you guys did choose the right room after all!
now, what was i supposed to do here...?
after looking for a bit, i find another note, just like how i did in the flooded room
but this one... is a lot different...
"itzqopb, tmb’a bmab bpib tqbbtm jziqv wn gwcza! ivaemz bpmam ycmabqwva, ivl wvkm gwc’dm zmikpml i acnnqkqmvb akwzm, q eqtt oqdm gwc gwcz vmfb pqvb. epib ivquit lziabqkittg kpivoma epmv bismv wcb wn qba vibczit mvdqzwvumvb? epib xtivmb, lcm bw bpm qvntcmvkm wn ozidqbg, bisma wv uwzm wn iv moo wz wdit apixm? epib eia bpm dmzg nqzab xpwbwozixp mdmz bismv jg pcuiva? epib qa bpm xP tmdmt wn pcuiv asqv? epmv bpm acv mfxtwlma, pwe twvo eqtt qb bism cvbqt bpm quxikb zmikpma ca? lw gwc svwe epw q iu, wz pidm ivg ocmaama? lw gwc svwe epw bpqa “qawxwl” qa? pwe uckp pidm gwc zmittg tmizvml aw niz? qa bpib mvwcop?"

i can wait here in the meantime.. again

WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan of Alaska slammed his hand on a table and yelled at a Democratic colleague Wednesday to voice his anger over a change to legislation that he said would harm his home state.
Sullivan grew uncharacteristically upset during a public meeting of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, where he accused Democratic Chairman Tom Carper’s staff of killing a provision he had advocated for in the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill.
"I’m getting tired of my state being singled out by this staff, Democrat staff, on everything," Sullivan said.
He said that he had pushed for legislative language that would allow Alaska more time to implement an EPA requirement to transition off of standard leaded aviation fuel. Sullivan wanted Alaska to be exempt from the fuel requirement through 2034, instead of the 2030 nationwide exemption.
The FAA reauthorization, which is making its way through the Senate, has become a grab-bag of priorities for senators.
“This goes to safety of my constituents,” Sullivan said, slamming his hand on the table. “And you guys jump in at the last minute, and I’m so goddamn sick of it. Anything that deals with Alaska, you feel it's open season because the radical environmental groups want to shut my state down. It's wrong."
"It's bull---, and I'm really mad about it," he added.
At one point Sullivan said he wanted to question Carper's staff, a move that is not typically allowed.
“Can I ask your staff right now?" Sullivan said.
“No, I think this markup is coming to an end,” Carper, D-Del., responded.
Ben Dietderich, a spokesperson for Sullivan, said in a statement to NBC News that Alaskans rely on air travel in a state where more than 200 communities are not connected by road.
Sullivan had secured the fuel provision "recognizing a state as big and reliant on older aircraft as Alaska could not feasibly implement this mandate in that timeframe," Dietderich said.
He said that "without any data supporting the move, the Democratic staff of Delaware Sen. Tom Carper, Chair of the Environment And Public Works Committee, slashed Alaska’s exemption in half. Once again, doing the bidding of far-left environmental groups, national Democrats are targeting Alaska and endangering the lives of Alaskans. It is shameful."
In response to a request for comment, a spokesperson for Carper told NBC News: “As Chairman of the EPW Committee and a believer in the principle of treating others as they would want to be treated, Senator Carper has always engaged with his Senate colleagues who reach out on issues that impact their constituents. Chairman Carper takes seriously his job of protecting the health of communities across the country and doing so in a way that understands the needs and impacts on the ground.”

perhaps to regain interest, look toward a different federation/company..maybe tna/impact, or
indies(prestige, gcw, mlw, pwg, west coast pro, deadlock pro, wrestling revolver)
or non-american ones, like
japan(ajpw, njpw, noah, ddt, tjpw, stardom, dragon gate)
austrailia(pwa, row, epw, wsw, slam!)
uk(progress, revpro, over the top, 1pw)
thailand(setup) france(rixe) germany(wxw)
or perhaps look to previous years
that is actually such a wonderful idea! thank you!

hi there! i have an ask i think u might either have an answer for or know someone who does. im looking for texts about the history of the naxal movement in india or also wider leftist history in the indian subcontinent. i feel like i have a very biased understanding of it since my grandparents were involved in the naxalite movement and growing up in the US, that was sort of the only thing i ever heard about indian leftism. i'd love to read more, especially about the wider context at the start of the uprising in 1967, but im not sure what sources are best.
cool grandparents!
The Story of an Aborted Revolution: Communist Insurgency in Post independence West Bengal, 1948–50 by Sekhar Bandyopadhyay, The Naxalite Movement in Central Bihar by Bela Bhatia, The Dalit and Naxalite Movements in AP by Ajay Gudavarthy are all short pieces for you to get started with some more interesting pieces of context.
I have also been recommended, but not read India’s Simmering Revolution: The Naxalite Uprising by Sumanta Banerjee and The Burning Forest by Nandini Sundar as broad overview books.
On the broader leftist movement itself: Reinventing Revolution: New Social Movements in India by Gail Omvedt should give you a good overview of leftist history in India that isn't just Naxalism. I have contentions with her representation of Ambedkarites but her broad analysis is correct. On other pivotal moments, I think you should read Unclaimed Harvest: An Oral History of the Tebhaga Women's Movement by Kavita Panjabi and The Long Haul: The Bombay Textile Workers Strike of 1982-83 by Rajni Bakshi.
This is not a reading you necessarily need I think. But on modern politics esp for people unfamiliar with India's left, Singur/Nandigram is key to getting why the parliamentary left in this country is a dead end. Maitreesh Ghatak's academic work is useful in this vein. The book reviews on EPW are a good place to start if that's too much.
All of these are all available online at the usual places but in case you can't find them feel free to DM me.

New US nuclear power legislation dropped:
Reduces fees for experimental reactors on DOD or DOE sites
Nuclear Regulatory Commission has 18 months to develop regulations for "micro-reactors" (undefined) taking into account their size and risk levels relative to standard large fixed-location Light Water Reactors.
Expedites licenses for building additional reactors at currently- or formerly-licensed nuclear power plants using already-licensed designs
Allows the DOE to enter into long-term power purchase agreements, which stabilizes financing for new reactor builds and thereby lowers costs to build.
Here's the list of current sponsors in the Senate; call your Senators to get them to back this bill!
