Wonderland

Wonderland is a song about a love that feels so enticing it draws her in against her judgment. Taylor uses Lewis Carroll's Wonderland as a metaphor for love with a famous person and they try to hold on the chaos that ensues from going public. Get a cup of tea, this is long. I feel the lyrics, meaning and context of this song are overlooked because Taylor had a friend who likes the classic novel.

25 October 2012 - Taylors Rolling Stone Article is titled "Taylor in Wonderland" and talks about her apartment.

5 November 2012 - One Direction is on the cover of Wonderland Magazine holding puppies. The article talks about a book deal from a fanfic about Harry, death threats to girlfriends, abuse of their mothers, relationships breaking down due to abuse by fans and absolute ferver about them at that time. It includes the quotes:

"Anyone is welcome to stare into the eyes of Madness" and "The boys show a similar stubbornness when I suggest, perhaps, if they were a little less public about their girlfriends (boybands like Take That, for example, were always encouraged by management to be perennially single in public), then maybe their partners would not have to endure so much attention. “That’s shit,” says Louis. “That means you don’t lead a life that’s real. 2 December 2012 - a month after the article Harry and Taylor walked in Central Park. They had been on/off in private for months at that point and seemingly together for the last 4 months.

17 November 2014 - Taylor is on the cover of Wonderland Magazine, she talks about 1989 and Twitter Trolls.

In 2015 Taylor indicated that all the songs of romance songs on 1989 were about on person. While Taylor has never said who that person is songs like Style hint. Original Lyrics

Along with 1989 TV Taylor released the original Wonderland Lyrics 27 October 2023. They are undated. I think it may have been started in 2011 when Taylor was in London and finished for 1989. The original Lyrics further indicate this song is about Harry:

"We danced down hallways, too in love to think straight" rather than" became "So, we went on our way / Too in love to think straight" Hallway's being common theme in Harry and Taylors songs about each other.

"Screaming you're the king and I'm the queen," rather than "All alone, or so it seemed." King/Queen is a common reference Taylor has used to indicate the muse is British. This is also on 1989 in Blank Space: "Stolen kisses, pretty lies, you’re the king, baby, I’m your queen"

"Colors I'd never seen twisting around me" became "I felt your arms twistin' around me." Colours are also a Haylor theme, on 1989 with OOTW: "The rest of the world was black and white / But we were in screaming color.”

"Didn't I tell you don't listen to them?" to "Didn't they tell us don't rush into things?" this reminds me of Slut! "I said it might blow up in your pretty face / I'm not saying do it anyway / But you're going to" because they went public and it did blow up.

"I turned around to find you and you were nowhere to be found / There was screaming and lightning / And I haven't been back since I had to leave you there..." became "I reached for you, but you were gone / I knew I had to go back home / You searched the world for somethin' else." this is similar to I Knew You Were Trouble: "And he’s long gone when he’s next to me", This Love: "And you were just gone and gone, gone and gone" and Blank Space: "Screaming, crying, perfect storms, I can make all the tables turn".

The first verse sets the scene of a relationship that is in the public eye and two people trying to hold onto their love in chaos. Specifically not a hidden relationship.

Flashing lights - It's easy to overlook how very out of control the fans and paparazzi were about Haylor and One Direction in 2011 - 2013. Having dated in secret for sometime when they did go public the focus was intense. When they dated again it was hidden, which is evident in both of their discographies.

I Know Places: Lights flash and we’ll run for the fences

Is It Over Now?: Flashing lights, oh Lord, let’s fast forward to three hundred takeout coffees later

Paris: Let the only flashing lights be the tower at midnight in my mind

One Directions Perfect "And if you like cameras flashing every time we go out oh yeah"

Fell down a Rabbit Hole is similar to IWYW "We're a crooked love in a straight line down"

The Pre-Chorus tells of a decision to go public with a previously private relationship. At the time Harry and One Direction were incessantly asked invasive questions about dating, which Harry was increasingly uncomfortable answering. Shortly before 1D provided a list of banned questions which was not well received.

Slut! implies that Harry had wanted to go public and Taylor cautioned against it " Taking your chance / It's a big mistake / I said it might blow up in your pretty face / I'm not saying do it anyway / But you're going to / And if they call me a slut / You know it might be worth it for once"

Harry's green eyes are mentioned in many songs.

[Chorus] We found Wonderland, you and I got lost in it And we pretended it could last forever (Eh, eh) We found Wonderland, you and I got lost in it And life was never worse, but never better (Eh, eh)

The Chorus encapsulates this relationship, one they are drawn to, see the peril in and proceed anyway because they love it. Taylor has other lyrics that refer to forever not coming true:

False God: We were crazy to think / Crazy to think that this could work / Remember how I said I'd die for you?

Pretending is also a theme, I think this about suspending judgement to stay in a Lavender Haze, or set aside concerns about the potential reputational damage or bullying caused by fans:

Wildest Dreams: "Say you’ll see me again even if it’s just pretend"

The post chorus Eh's sound so similar to Rihanna's "Under my umbrella, ella, ella, eh, eh, eh" which is actually similar in theme, Umbrella is about a famous couple being there for each other, Wonderland is feeling like that didn't happen.

In the period One Direction was incessantly asked for a celebrity crush (while he was actually dating an exceptional famous dream girl) Harry often said Rihanna, if he answered. Rihanna was a safe choice, she wasn't single, she has spoken highly of Harry. Also she sat in front of him at the infamous 2013 VMAs.

Fame and focus of people outside the relationship is a theme. I can't repeat enough how much this song is about a public relationship:

Harry for One Direction Where do Broken Hearts Go: "Mind is runnin' in circles of you and me / Anyone in-between is the enemy"

[Pre-Chorus] Didn't they tell us "Don't rush into things"? Didn't you flash your green eyes at me? Didn't you calm my fears with a Cheshire cat smile? Ooh, didn't it all seem new and exciting? I felt your arms twistin' around me It's all fun and games 'til somebody loses their mind But darling

The reference of a Cheshire Cat smile is a double meaning, both referring to Harry's smile and where he grew up, Cheshire, England. Lewis Carroll, author of Alice in Wonderland, was also born in Cheshire. Calm my fears similar to the line in NYD “squeeze my hand”

[Bridge] I reached for you, but you were gone I knew I had to go back home You searched the world for somethin' else To make you feel like what we had And in the end, in Wonderland, we both went mad Oh

The song ends on a sad note, Taylor realises the relationship is too much for her so she gives it up. Her muse can't replace her and they never get over it. From Slut! and Say Don't Go in the 1989 Vault Taylor wanted more assurance in the chaotic storm of them going public. From Harry's TBSL and Little Freak we can infer that he wasn't ready for it, 19 and too famous too quickly.

End Of An Era: A-10C Thunderbolt II Demo Team Announces Final Airshow Season

The A-10 Demo Team has just announced their farewell tour 2024.

The U.S. Air Force A-10C Thunderbolt II demonstration team is the unit in charge of highlighting the A-10C’s capabilities during airshows across the United States and to recruit, retain and inspire the next generation of Airmen. The team will perform its duty for one last season this year: in fact, as announced on social media, 2024 is going to mark the final airshow season for the Warthog demo.

The farewell tour does not come unexpected though: last month, the 355th Wing at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona, where the Demo team is based, begun divesting its fleet of A-10 aircraft after nearly 50 years.

The first model of the aircraft to arrive at Davis-Monthan was an A-10A on March 2, 1976. This model was assigned to the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing that arrived here in 1971 and replaced the Vought A-7D Corsair flown by the 355th TFW. The 355th TFW was later reclassified as the 355th Tactical Fighter Training Wing, prompting the 354th, 357th, and 358th Fighter squadrons to train U.S. Air Force Pilots on the A-10A aircraft.

A-10 Demo Team

The U.S. Air Force has plans to divest the entire fleet of A-10 aircraft within the next 3-5 years, when the iconic jet will be replaced by the F-35.

“The A-10 has been the symbol of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base for many years, and it will continue to be a symbol for the Airmen of DM, a symbol of their commitment, excellence and service,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Scott Mills, 355th Wing commander and A-10 pilot in a public statement. “For now, we’re divesting a single squadron during the summer-fall timeframe of 2024.”

Coinciding with the divestment, Davis-Monthan plans to expand its Rescue Footprint, which may lead to additional utility of the HC-130 aircraft and the HH-60W helicopter. Airframes expected to arrive from the Air Force Special Operations Command include the MC-130 and OA-1K.

“From an Ops personnel standpoint, this divestment arguably allows a more expeditious stand-up of the F-35, even as that program continues to struggle with a variety of delays,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Razvan Radoescu, 355th Operations Group commander.

The aircraft 82-648 was the first to be retired from service at Davis-Monthan on Feb. 6, 2024, and transited from the 354th Fighter Squadron to the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group for final maintenance procedures and display preparation for the Davis-Monthan where hundreds of retired Aircraft are stored.

“There will always be a job for maintainers; it may not be on the A-10, but the Air Force needs maintainers to sustain airpower,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Clarence McRae, 355th Maintenance Group commander, “Perhaps the biggest draw of future maintainers will be in the F-35 community. Airplanes are still going to break, and we are still going to fix them.”

Anyway, there’s still time to attend an airshow and watch the A-10 Demo Team, commanded by Capt Johnson, an Instructor Pilot and Flight Commander assigned to the 357th Fighter Squadron, Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona and previously served also in Texas and Korea, at her second season as the commander of the team.

[SUNHUI]: “Sorry I had to leave so quickly! I just wanted to say your newest song DANCE was really good, I’ve had it on repeat for days!” That was to one of my friends YOURA! She just released a new song and I hadn’t had the chance to tell her my thoughts on it since I had to leave for schedule. 

[LILITH]: [she looks at her phone.] “Junsu, shut up or I will put you on BuzzFeed Unsolved." [she looks at the camera like it's The Office, an unimpressed look on her face.] He's always annoying me, I'm telling you. The BuzzFeed Unsolved part is a promise, oppa. [she directs her last statement to the camera while pointing.]

[TATI]: Five minutes! I got a spam call and I just went along with it before getting bored and hanging up on them.

[LILITH]: Uhh. . . I think it was only a few hours? I was talking to my mom and we just ended up talking about everything haha.

[SUNHUI]: A few minutes, it was just me calling BIYA when her and the other members were at the dorm and I called to ask what drinks they wanted from the cafe I was at. 

[LILITH]: The thumbs up one [👍🏻], definitely. I always text it in our group chat and to our manager.

[SUNHUI]: The smiling face with the hearts around it [🥰]...I send that a lot after we do well during practice or recordings!

[TATI]: The side eyes! [👀] I always send it to Biya when I see or hear her spoil things, hah!

[LILITH]: That’s the sign to look out for. [she whispers.]

[SUNHUI]: It’s a video I took of OH MY GIRL’s performance at one of their U.S. tour shows! Nina and I went to one of the shows back in January!

[LILITH]: A TikTok dance with my brother. If he looks like he's been threatened at gunpoint. . . Yes.

[TATI]: It was me showing off a makeup look that Nina unnie tried on me! It looked so cute! I was sad to wash it off. . .

Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) [방탄소년단] Melon Music Awards 2019 Review

The Melon Music Awards aired on Nov. 30. in Seoul. During the awards show, Bangtan Sonyeondan [방탄소년단] almost exclusively known as BTS here in the west, performed a 40 minute set of “Intro: Persona” “Boy in Luv” “Boy With Luv” “Mikrokosmos” a dance break, and “Dionysus.”

The opening video shows the members resting on a sofa, similar to the “I NEED U” music video, hinting at BTS’s fictional story universe and that this concert might be a reflection of it. The video features motifs of lights and shadows, making fans excited that the potential albums of “Map of the Soul: Shadow” or “Map of the Soul: Ego” might be confirmed soon. It ends with Rap Monster (RM) being the only one awake, playing with a lighter.

RM starts the performance with a solo, “Intro: Persona.” His rapping is spectacular. The stage is themed like a Korean classroom and was littered with clues about fan-speculations and references to their old songs. The clack board was made to look like the scribbles of a mad man. Once RM finishes, the rest of BTS joined him for “Boy in Luv,” a 2014 song from the Skool Luv Affair era. A surprising throwback and a hint that this concert was more than meets the eye.

The song jumps into BTS’s 2019 megahit, “Boy With Luv” which is a direct continuation of the story. The screen changes from a school to the iconic movie theater from the 2019 video. Since Halsey was over here in the States, the boys sing the high notes alongside her backing track. Jimin kisses a rose and throws it into the crowd, triggering rose petals to blast out of cannons into the front rows. The boys held up hand signs of the number two, again hinting at the Ego album.

Then, everything stops and fades to black. RM speaks over a soft piano, as the white text is the only thing visible: “In the beginning, I did not shine so bright. I only knew to do my best to shine. But we found each other and our universe was born. Now let us shine on each other.” The music swells, “We’re no longer small. Just as the universe expands,” The camera cuts to the crowd filled with lights, “Our universe would last forever.”

The song “Mikrokosmos” starts, the staging mimics the Love Yourself: Speak Yourself tour, the projection and screens of stars make it appear like they were floating in the galaxy. At the softest part of the song, the stage blacks out and shows only a screen with the words “I love you” in 100s of different languages.

The video from the opening continues, Jungkook woke up and look at old TVs playing old BTS music videos. He says, “I’m still looking for who I used to be,” the camera pans back to his face, he smiles, and says, “who I am now.” RM smiles and hugs him. Shadows fill and become the other band members. Their silhouettes are overlaid with the scenes of their deaths from the “Fake Love” music video. It cuts to them all standing in the living room, the TV shows static, as Jungkook says, “Who I will be in the future.” It zooms in on his eye and showing space. The BTS logo flashes.

A greek horn blazes, like a warning before, their song “Dionysus.” Greek imagery is everywhere. The screen is lifted and we see men highlighted by a dark red light. They march like soldiers, and people on spinning rings drop for the ceiling. V raises from the ground in a white and gold suit leaning heavily into Apollo imagery. His dance is dark and moody set to an old BTS song “No More Dream.”

Then it shifts to Jin, in an all-white suit, on a horse figurine before dancing to an orchestrated new version of “Danger” as his imagery leads to hot debates and the two conclusions that he is representing either Athena or Ares. His dancing is his controlling of an army to fight.

Everything fades to blue as a long flowing sheet is ran across stage and Jimin is shown alone as Artemis, in a silk outfit illuminated by simple light bulbs meant to look like stars. He ballet style dances to “I NEED U,” while using the piece of cloth to highlight his movement and incorporating a traditional Korean dance in his set.

The stage then lights up with red lights and actual fire for Suga’s song and dance “Fire.” He is representing Hephaestus and is costumed like he was back in the Hwa Yong Yeon Hwa era of BTS’s music.

Water falls over and stops the fire and Jungkook is shown sitting in a pool of water and smoke. His song is “Save Me” and he represents Poseidon. He spends and splashes water everywhere, his tasseled shirt helps with the movement.

Then the lights struck down as J-Hope dances to a techno style remix of “Fake Love,” he is Zeus shown with a laser light show.

Lastly, the leader, RM enters to “Dionysus” powerfully walking onstage as Dionysus and picking up his mythical thyrsus. He holds it over his head and rolls his eyes back as he plants it into the ground. The stage burst into life.

Then BTS performs “Dionysus” surrounded by Greek imagery. The insane choreography is some of BTS’s hardest yet and the staging is overly grand. Men in boring uniforms and men leading real horses enter. BTS sits on a Mount Olympus court as the song kicks off. RM jumps onto the table and walks across, then pounds his fist and the other members rise. They dance on the front table before moving to the front. Before the final verse, they revealed “Dionysus” remixed “N.O.” again emphasizing that they haven’t lost the love for their old music. Right before the hardest part of the dance RM asked the audience: “You ready for this? Is you ready, see your hype! Jump! Come on, let’s go!” The show finished with all of the band members sitting on thrones.

At the award portion of the night, they won eight awards, four of those being daesangs, or “grand prizes.” The group won Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

taylor performs at the 2013 vsfs, where she meets karlie. people have been saying for years that they'd be great friends, and lo and behold, they hit it off instantly.

2014 is #theyearofcandids and we get photos of taylor walking around new york, dressed to the nines, virtually every day. karlie is often with her.

in march (i think) of 2014, they go on a road trip to big sur together. it's all very pretty and pleasing, and they both post a variety of pictures of the trip together on instagram.

1989 comes out, taylor is more loved than she has ever been in her career, karlie is still a constant feature in candids, taylor does the vsfs fashion show again and walks down the catwalk with karlie, they hold hands at basketball games, go to events together, taylor's birthday post for karlie refers to her "as absolute sunshine," karlie helps taylor send packages to fans for christmas, it looks like we are closing out 2014 with an intense and kinda homoerotic friendship. anyone who shipped kaylor in 2014 had every right to do so, because it definitely had basis. anyone who did so into 2016 and later is beyond help, but we had a good few months in the early 1989 era. you really had to be there.

late 2014, around the time of taylor's birthday, they go to a 1975 concert with several mutual friends. someone takes several blurry photos of taylor and karlie, which could be anything from them kissing to dancing to whispering to each other because it's a fucking loud concert. at ANY rate, rumours quickly start, and taylor tweets something like "as my 25th birthday present from the media, i'd like you all to stop assuming i'm dating everyone i'm friends with."

their friendship dies down a little in late 2014/early 2015, but then they do a vogue cover together, and there's a whole video about them being best friends. all is well, peace is restored, justice is achieved, etc etc.

but then, a new player enters. the man who shaked things up, entertained us with his twitter meltdowns, ruined great candids for a year, and proved that the british don't know how to bake. that's right - calvin harris has entered the scene.

with the bean in the picture, taylor goes fully no homo in a way that's honestly kind of funny in hindsight. karlie is replaced by this brooding scottish dj and taylor even likes tumblr posts about how kaylors are freaks and calvin is the love of her life. every karlie moment is overshadowed by him. oh, 4th of july celebration with the girls? HA. CALVIN IS THERE. karlie has a role in the bad blood music video, which premieres at the 2015 billboard awards? yeah, well taylor's going to hug and kiss calvin all night. even without the karlie of it all, we could not escape this man. oh, to be a swiftie in 2015. it was the best of times it was the worst of times.

this all culminates in what is, hands down, the funniest thing taylor has ever posted online. i think about this once a week. people got so mad at her for it. it started discourse. some unstanned. and it remains, to this day, incredibly fucking funny.

things progress as usual for the rest of the year. taylor does some stupid shit, calvin does some stupid shit, karlie is off doing whatever karlie does when she isn't piggybacking off taylor's fame, the 1989 era draws to a close, etc etc. i think the only other memorable things of late 2015 were karlie featuring in the 1989 tour movie along with other friends of taylor's, and karlie coming to the vmas to support taylor, but so much happened that night. not related to taylor, just in general. man, what was with 2015 and music?

we have entered 2016. taylor and calvin go on vacation together, post a bunch of pics, more people unstan (it was...a strange time), karlie only really appears in group situations now, taylor and calvin bake the shittiest looking cake for their one year anniversary.

taylor posts a photo of her and karlie at a dance studio with a caption like "my favourite person to dance with."

met gala 2016 takes place, where everything that could possibly have happened appears to have happened. details will never be revealed but taylor was there, karlie was there, tom hiddleston was there, joe alwyn was there, and taylor gets bored of the bean within a month.

summer of 2016 happens, which i feel even non swifties know about, so here's the tldr: taylor dumps calvin, snapchatgate, hiddleswift, taylor wrote this is what you came for, last ever 4th of july party that taylor throws. karlie attends said party, but so does most of taylor's friend group, so it doesn't really mean anything. some say she was the inspiration for tiwycf, but those people can argue amongst themselves. i'm on a schedule.

to perhaps compensate for the comedy gold post of 2015, this is the birthday taylor gives karlie in 2016. even me, known kaylor anti and karlie kloss bullier, has to admit that this is very sweet and also kind of gay.

taylor and karlie as a whole seem to be back to their nonsense from two years earlier. karlie is very present and very touchy feely with taylor at drake (the rapper, not the royal romance character) and lorde's birthday parties in october/november.

taylor then disappears off the face of the earth for a year, so we don't really know who or what she's still friends with.

WELCOME TO THE REPUTATION ERA

the rep album has a few references to fake friends and betrayal, and since taylor isn't posting much online and isn't doing any interviews, nobody knows who it could be. people theorise about karlie, but others theorise that dress is about her, and also joe alwyn is in the picture now, and i don't have time to keep up with this, i'm getting drunk.

rep tour happens, karlie goes to a show in nashville, posts this picture, everyone's like "oh they're friends again!" or "oh they're still friends!" depending on which camp you were in post lwymmd.

in october of 2018, karlie kloss becomes karlie kloss kushner. taylor is not at the wedding, either because she wasn't invited or because she was playing shows across the world at that point in time. again, choose your camp. at any rate, iirc, this is the beginning of the end.

taylor leaves big machine records, signs up with universal music group, goes to make lover, and then right before it comes out she found out that her masters were sold to scooter braun. you can look up that whole situation yourself if you want more info, but here, i'm afraid we're running out of time.

i honestly can't remember where the rumours started but i THINK it was a video clip of perez hilton saying that karlie sold taylor out to scooter that went around on twitter, and some of taylor's friends liked the tweet. but it's been like two years, so i might be remembering wrong. whether or not it's true, taylor no longer acknowledges the existence of karlie kloss, unless you count her songs on lover and folklore that are about betrayal. also, karlie is friends with scooter braun. so.

in december of 2020, evermore comes out. the deluxe tracks are not available on streaming just yet and so we must wait until people who bought the physical editions record it and upload them. one of these deluxe songs, it's time to go, includes the lyric "when the words of a sister / come back in whispers that prove she was not / in fact what she seemed / not a twin from your dreams / she's a crook who was caught." taylor and karlie were repeatedly referred to as being like sisters, being twins, both by themselves and others. it's about as explicit as taylor has gotten about who inspired a song since like...dear john.

in january of this year, karlie decides to make a fool of herself on twitter regarding her relationship with the kushner family and friendship with sister in law ivanka trump. the internet, of course, had a field day.

later that night, taylor would put it's time to go on streaming.

“Obviously. You know, every tour you do the more of a self-centered asshole you become. Just because your band is ‘making it big’ doesn’t mean you have to treat the people in your life like shit, Thom! It isn’t just me. Ed literally has told me numerous stories from when you got too drunk to even perform! You promised.”

“Oh enough of that promise bullshit Y/N! I’m sick of it!”

“Well, that shows how much you fucking cared about it, huh? Shows what a promise means to you? You’re pathetic. The amount of love and support I have poured into you since fucking college and one hit song throws every promise and hope for our future away.”

I let out a dry laugh and walked to our bedroom. I grabbed a suitcase and packed as much as I could shove into it.

I scoffed and grabbed my stuff. I stormed out onto the snowy streets. It was freezing but I didn’t dare look back. It felt like I had been walking for hours before I found a phone booth. I put the change in the slot and dialed the only number I could remember through my rage.

“Hey, Eddie? It’s Y/N..”

“What happened this time?”

“Well, what usually happens when he gets home I suppose. Are you busy?”

It had been nearly two months since we broke up and not a word was spoken between us. Ed had generously let me rent out the spare room in his house until I got my shit together, which did not seem to be happening. All I could seem to do was cry, work, and sleep. Eddie was wonderful and tried to help when he could, but he tended to keep his distance. At some point, I knew Thom would end up stumbling into the house, however, I did not expect to hear his voice breaking downstairs as he talked to Ed.

Thom’s POV

“Ed, it’s driving me mad! Do you know where they are, have you heard from them, anything?”

“If they wanted you to know where they were, they would’ve contacted you. I can’t really help you, man.”

“I just. I can’t do this anymore. I need them, so badly. You don’t fucking understand.” I crumbled to the ground in tears. “It’s my fault. Every time they leave it’s my fault and- and I just expect them to come back. What happened to me, Eddie? What... happened?”

“Thom. You’re the only person who’s gonna be able to fix this and you know it. I’m not helping you anymore. We’ve been through this too many times. I’m not a fucking couples counselor!” He grabbed his hair in frustration.

“You… You too? You’re supposed to be my best friend, and you’re giving up on me too?”

“You know what, Thom? That’s your problem. You can’t take any fucking responsibility for anything, can you? It’s always somebody else’s fault with you!”

I couldn’t even form a response. My thoughts spiraled rapidly as I tried to figure out where everything went to shit.

“I-I’m so-rry. I don’t know what to do, a-and I don’t mean to throw it all on you, Eddie, you… You’re just always so good with this stuff and you know them so well and- and- and..”

“Thom,” He held his head in his hand, “take a breath. There’s no need for all the blubbering.”

“But-”

“Just shut up for a minute okay? I’ll be right back.”

He marched up the stairs and disappeared. A few minutes later he came back down. Followed by Y/N.

Y/N’s POV

His face was tear-stained and puffy. He was in a pile on the floor looking as hopeless as an abandoned puppy.

“Y/N..”

I felt my jaw clench as I looked at him. I wanted to slap him and yell at him for everything he put me through, but my body betrayed me. Instead, I found myself kneeling in front of him, arm reaching out to cup his face in my hand. Tears streamed down his cheeks once again as he rested in my palm. He turned to kiss my fingertips.

“I’m sorry Y/N… I took you for granted. I thought you would always come back, and this time you didn’t, and my ego left with you. I need you, I need you so badly love. I can’t do this without you. Please I will do anything to have you back… Please.” He was barely speaking and as he whispered he looked me in the eyes for the first time in years.

“I... I can’t, Thom.”

His posture snapped to attention and I watched his heart shatter again.

“Why not..?”

“You hurt me.”

Tears of my own now mimicked his.

“Please.”

“Thom, stop.”

“I can’t. I can’t because I love you, and if you ever loved me then you would come back.”

“Don’t you fucking dare with that bullshit Thomas.”

I stood and walked away, but he followed.

“Love doesn’t go away Y/N, you told me that yourself. If you loved me you wouldn’t walk away like this. You’re really willing to throw everything away like that?”

“Stop. Thom, I- I can’t do this, just go.”

“I’m not leaving without you.”

“And I’m not leaving with you.”

He approached me and gently grabbed my hands, giving me the same damn look he did every time he wanted to get his way.

“No, Thom. Stop. Please.”

“One more chance, that’s all I ask. If I fuck it up again I promise you will never hear from me again. I’ll take you on the next tour, I’ll let you get a puppy like you’ve always wanted. Literally, anything you want is yours. You don’t ever have to work again. Just, please?”

“You still don’t get it. I don’t want material things or money. I don’t, well I do want a puppy,” We chuckled, “But that’s not why I left. All I want is your love, some of your time and attention. I want to feel safe with you. I want to feel at home. I don’t feel like that with you anymore. The only feelings that run through me when I look at you are sadness and insecurity. You make me feel like a child being scolded by their mother. I just can’t live like that again.”

“I promise that I will fix what needs to be fixed and will do anything I can to make you feel safe again, just trust me.”

“We both know promises aren’t your thing.”

“I’ll keep this one.”

“I can’t believe that, Thom.”

“I’ll let Ed take over the band if I break this promise and I will never perform with Radiohead again.”

“Oh, shove off you lunatic! I’m not worth that. Your fans would have my head.”

“I’m serious.”

“You make everything so hard on me.”

“Jesus, Y/N would you please just say yes? All you have done the past two months aside from work is cry and sleep. I can barely get you to eat. Just get it over with. If he fucks you over again I will personally skin him alive, just, get it over with you two!”

Thom looked at me hopefully. I sighed.

“Fine.”

He planted kisses all over my face and pulled me into a tight hug.

“Jesus, Thom, you smell! When was your last shower?”

“I... I have no clue,” He scratched his neck and looked at the ground.

“I mean, you are rank! You smell like a secondary boys locker room after P.E.”

“Okay, in my defense, I didn’t think you were going to be here.”

“Yeah, so it’s okay that I suffer in your stench then?”

“Well, we’ve shared a tour bus, I figure that you’re used to it by now.”

“Well, by that logic, if Y/N is coming on tour with us, they better get used to it too, because you’ve smelled worse after a show.”

“Lovely.”

He laughed and engulfed me in a hug again. I gave in and dug my face into his neck, letting him rock us side to side.

“Let’s get you home then, yeah?”

“If anyone needs to get home it’s you so you can shower!”

“We can shower together if you’d like.”

“Okay, yeah, if you could leave the dirty talk for the car ride home it would be appreciated.”

We laughed once again.

“I’ll go pack,” I placed a soft kiss on his cheek before walking up the stairs.

My Tears Ricochet barely beat out Tolerate It to make it to the final round, while Look What You Made Me Do beat the insane bridge of Illicit Affairs 60% to 40%.

Do you have any details whether or not his tour is actually happening? I personally think it’s ridiculous that nothing has been said and it’s better it doesn’t go ahead. My reasoning is that this virus is 100% not going away anytime soon and just bc your vaccinated doesn’t mean you can’t get it and still suffer. Plus, the media attention it would bring if it was cancelled part way from would be horrific and it would be something that no team could bury and it would not come out it well.

This turned into a book that I don’t want to force people to read so if you interested in learning how tours get booked and my opinion on whether Haryr will tour this summer/fall or not is read below:

Ok I want to preface that for this ask specifically I have no insider/exact info to share. What I will say is that Harry is signed to CAA, a talent agency, like most artists are and they are the ones that handling all of the tour booking and stuff. Columbia has their own tour team but their work is more general of like giving the booking agency and conflicts/dates that work and working with them on what the best route/cities to hit would be.

Tours on average are planned at least 2 years in advanced (so like right now CAA is planning tours for artists for 2023-2024. Personally (and this is my opinion) I don’t think it will happen this year and if it does it will have to be majorly scaled back. How venues (at least in the US work) is that sports come first, everything else comes second. So all of these arenas and stadiums that are booked for his shows have the all the dates where there’s a specific sports game blocked out (NBA, NHL, March Madness, etc). This means that companies like ticketmaster/livenation that help talent agencies like CAA book tours rely on all of the left over days for their artists and when so many people want to tour/ so many tours got pushed back dates become tough (also the reason why so many tours are in the summer- because dates are more flexible since less sports are fighting for the arena and it gives more openings for other events). 

When COVID first happened most artists ad agents didn’t panic until later when it was almost too late (because everyone thought it was going to be 3 weeks and done) and now theres the add fear of if early 2022 will be safe which is why it has taken artists like the Weekend and Elton John so long to announce new tour dates. Consumers are hestiant to splurg on concert and festival tickets for shows because theres so much instability in the market (at least those with a budget). 

I can gaurantee that his team at Columbia and CAA have already made a decision either way (because if he needs to reschedule they needed to have looked into that months ago). I think right now what they’re doing is running the clock down to the very end to see if they can make a 2021 tour happen (which I doubt) because they’ve already sold out all the arenas and have the dates secured. Having to go back and change the dates, cancel dates or reschedule is a huge undertaking (not to mention expensive as heck for everyone). I don’t think he’ll make an offical were going on tour annoucement, I think if anything we may find out through someone working on it (i.e Helene if she can travel or a band member or the tour company). In an ideal world, if he is postponing or canceling the tour he’d need to give at least a 1 months notice (for euorpe he gave about 2) but there’s nothing stoping him from canceling the day before, although I doubt he’ll do that. 

I think the Delta variant that’s spreading now does come into play though.

Covid has made touring a huge liability not just for fans attending but also crew involved. Tour roadies travel together and spend  a lot of time together in close contact so there’s a risk of someone getting infected and spreading it (even if they all are vaccinated- they might just be asymptomatic but breakthrough cases happen). If that spread to any of the performers or enough of the crew had to quarantine that would force the tour to stop/cancel for at least 10 days and since his dates are so close together that would be a major loss. While most of adults are vaccinated, you do need to take into account that a lot of Harry’s fans are younger and he is touring in place (especially down south) that have low vaccination rates.

I think going forward with it would be a foolish decision on everyone that’s involved and I think he need to postpone at least until 2022 or just cancel and pursue a different way to close the Fine Line era (concert movie from the forum maybe?). Considering he hasn’t released any dates for Europe or Australia/New Zealand that were postponed earlier this year, it doesn’t look good.

2. This Ain’t A Love Song by Bon Jovi - I don’t know why but the song is so bluesy and soulful, it reminds me of Chris in the Euphoria Morning era.

Love You Without No Lies by Silvertomb - I was supposed to go and see Silvertomb live back in March before all the lockdowns began and even though the concert has been rescheduled for 2021, I still wish I could have see Kenny Hickey perform this live. Kenny is a huge Soundgarden fan and this track definitely shows that influence.

4.Patience by Guns N Roses - I have no idea why but this just makes me think of him. I always wished he would’ve covered this song on his songbook tour back in 2011. I honestly think he would’ve made it sound amazing.

5. Never Tear Us Apart by INXS - again I have no idea why but this is another track that I wish he would’ve covered. It just makes me think of him because of how Michael Hutchence sings it. I just feel like he would’ve done an amazing job on it.

2019.05.17 BEAT SHUFFLE - Kyo and Takumi interview

A rough translation/summary from around 30 min radio interview. If you notice any mistakes/typos etc please let me know! (*´ω｀*)

Radio host: DJ Hiroaki Arai

First topic is clothes as Kyo answered he’s really into suits recently; he wears them to concerts and as his everyday clothes, just without a tie. To Arai’s question if he wears suits to studio as well Kyo answered they didn’t start rehearsal yet. Kyo cares about the size and has to look for the smallest mens size which is just right for him. He finds suits super relaxing.

Arai: Takumi, you were able to enjoy many cherry blossoms in your hometown.

Takumi: That’s right. With dir tour is spring the timing was perfect for blooming season. In February we had recording with sukekiyo, end of March we finished and started touring with dir in local areas. The shows were quite spread out so I could go back to my hometown, to west Japan, and see cherry blossoms. It was great!

Arai: Where’s your hometown?

Takumi: In Yamaguchi prefecture, Shimonoseki. Even if it’s the same type of cherry blossom tree, seeing the bloom in one’s hometown feels different. I wanted to see the last cherry blossoms of Heisei era in my hometown.

Next, they talk about Takumi’s new synthesizer. He uses synthesizer a lot when recording and he had quite a ‘vintage’ one - he thinks older ones have better quality sound. It was quite troublesome when he had to take it to concerts as old synthesizers are quite big and heavy, like 20kg, and he doesn’t have a case for it. But he needed to use a good quality one. So after thinking about it he got one he can use for shows, also an old one, that he can use to recreate the older sound. He used the new-old synthesizer for recording for INFINITUM.

Then, they talk about the release dates and editions of INFINITUM.

Kyo: Have you listened to it yet?

Arai: I skimmed over it.

Kyo [(ー_ー)!!] Skimmed over?!

Arai: I was wondering when I will receive it, and I only got it last night!

Kyo: So you could have listened to it many times!

Arai: But I had other things as well… But of course I listened to it many times… skimming over. (changing topic xD) How was the recording and production this time, was it tight?

Kyo: Yeah, there’s always a lot going on. During dir’s tour I was recording singing, but the recording time was not decided, we can do it anytime, even in the middle of the night, when the mood strikes.

Arai: Did you have a theme when writing songs

Takumi: We had an idea what direction we’d like to go to since we released previous work ADORATIO. Kyo shared with us many keywords and hints. Really since 2 years we expanded various images we had for this work, like 'this would be interesting’.

Arai: When writing songs were there images for each song, like this song is for dancing and so on?

Kyo: No, it was all quite rough. Like thinking of 80s atmosphere or something like that. (…)

Takumi explains that they had several songs in pre-production stage, some from even 5 years ago when they were dismissed. So the current sukekiyo could remake them.

Then Hiroaki asks Kyo about lyrics. There’s nothing decided, Kyo just writes them then and there when recording the music.

Arai talks about the GBS edition and the collaboration songs. Kyo explains that for artists to participate he wanted someone who he gets along with well, people he likes, it was so he could enjoy it, he wasn’t thinking what other people would think, it was only for his personal enjoyment.

They talk about Shokichi from EXILE. Kyo says Shokichi is a big fan of dir and he even came to their concert recently, they had fun time chatting. It’s the first time Shokichi sings so high, but he said it was actually easy. Kyo was the reason for him to start singing and he even used to be in DIR copy band.

Arai comments that Kyo has a very wide range.

Kyo: After a fashion.

They talk about tour FORTY.

Arai: what will the next tour be like?

Kyo: We haven’t started the rehearsal yet, so I don’t know, but so far we’re thinking of performing all songs.

Arai: And for standing shows?

Kyo: It’s totally fine to move. But please stay absolutely quiet. No noise allowed! -when performing as sukekiyo noise is very annoying.

Arai: And for seated shows?

Kyo: You must not move. Out of question. - Kyo compares this to watching movies in the cinema; he hates when someone in front of him stands up to go to toilet. From the stage he can see the door, so when someone leaves and doors open even for a moment there’s light from the outside and it drives Kyo mad.

So request from Kyo: please go to toilet before the show.

Next, they talk about heavier songs and fans response during the concerts. Kyo recalls (again, I think he talked about it for sukekiyo interview videos at the tour last winter, he really feels strongly about it) the time he saw a female fan at dir show, she was in the first row in front of him, but she was doing 'air drums’ even during ballads. Pure bewilderment.

Then they talk about July’s schedule (Sugizo’s show and Hong Kong).

Q1. What are you looking forward to with the upcoming tour?

Kyo: To visiting various cafes. I’m going to various places, I don’t post pictures from all of them, I just walk around the city, check the place and go in. -Takumi also likes sweet food.

Arai: Have sukekiyo members exchanged contact details and hung out together in private? (kyotaku: at another radio interview with Arai they talked about dir members 😂)

Kyo: We know each other contact details, but we only went out when celebrating completing projects etc. If sukekiyo members went to Disneyland together wouldn’t that be like super cringy? It would be absolutely weird.

Q2. As Takumi is known for collecting various sound samplings, was there any special samplings used for INFINITUM?

Takumi: When we did the photo shoot for Mind-V, there were various things in that building, I thought many could be used to create various sounds. At the time INFINITUM was not finished yet. There was a broken piano that I used. (Kyo: it was really great) Real broken piano and normal piano sound distorted on computer are totally different.

Q3. How long does it take to complete one song?

It was difficult to answer for both Kyo and Takumi as the period they worked on this release is so long.

Arai: Which song took especially long?

Kyo: Hm? All of them took time, so… all of them.

Q4. Your hairstyle is always changing. What are you planning to do next?

Kyo: It depends on my mood, each day I arrange it different way, slick back, parted on the side, if I feel like shaving it all again I’ll just do it. I don’t plan my hairstyles. Even with face piercing I once just decided to get it on the day ee had a show.

Takumi: I’m not changing my hair, I’m keeping this style forever.

Q5. In the lyrics of Waizatsu there are references to two movies. Which scenes did you like the best in those movies?

Kyo replies all, but in Creep Show he liked how scary was the scene in the end when the title comes up. In the Toxic Avenger he likes the main monster.

Arai: Do you watch horror movies a lot?

Takumi: Not really.

Kyo: I can really recommend GOT, the world created there is great. It’s not a horror, but it’s pretty shocking, characters just keep dying. I don’t watch movies where no one dies.

Arai thanks them for coming and they announce the last song. Goodbyes.

[Trans] FTISLAND - The last tour before enlistment! During the final, Hongki announces “As 4, we will protect FTISLAND.”

During this final performance, on this day, in this venue, it was certain that everyone thought, “even with only 4 people, this is FTISLAND.”

The Korean rock band FTISLAND held the finale of its ‘FTISLAND JAPAN LIVE TOUR 2019 FIVE TREASURES’ tour at Hyogo World Memorial Hall on May 5th. Although already announced, this tour was their last before enlistment. Starting from Tokyo’s Toyoso PIT on April 4th, there were 13 performances during their 1-month long tour. From live houses to halls, to Budokan and finishing in an arena.

Before the show started, the fans in the fully sold-out audience naturally clapped along to ‘God Bless You,’ the lead track from their 9th Album ‘Everlasting’ (released on March 27), as they waited impatiently for FTISLAND to make their entrance. To mark the entrance of the members, the SE (Sound Effect) comprised of an edited and rearranged version of ‘FT Island’ from their 1st Korean album ‘Cheerful Sensibility�� (2007).

They announced, “since we can’t do a live next year to celebrate our Japanese Major Debut’s 10th anniversary, this tour will reflect our history, from our indie days to now.”

In line with this, the song ‘FT Island” was a concert staple during their indie days. As the clapping of the fans grew louder to this SE, Minhwan (Dr), Seunghyun (Gt) and Jaejin (Ba) entered. Then, as Minhwan started to drum a tight beat, Hongki (Vo) entered and they surged triumphantly into their major debut song, ‘Flower Rock’. Despite being a fast-paced song, Hongki was impressively able to stitch together a few words. Fans jumped vigorously with Hongki, and there was a sense of unity from the start.

During the section with FTISLAND’s anime and drama compositions, the lyrics to Satisfaction ‘I’ve been searching for the meaning of happiness. I wondered where it was’ were changed to ‘I wondered if it (the meaning of happiness) was in Kobe.’ Hearing the fans sing this loudly, Hongki grinned broadly. During ‘Haruka’, the theme song for a Japanese drama in which Hongki starred, Seunghyun demonstrated his rapping skills for the first time in a while.

As Hongki commanded the crowd to ‘Give me your voice!’, the ‘WOWOWO’ sing-along to ‘Aqua’ was born. Hongki opened his arms wide as if preparing to receive their voices. Then, he added his own voice thunderously to the fans’ singing. During the one Korean composition section, Hongki, Jaejin and Seunghyun head-banged to the heavy rock beats. To the fans riding the momentum of the music, Hongki sang back to them, returning the favour with his voice. During the sing-along hook of ‘Pray’, as the title suggests, Hongki clasped his hands at his chest as if in prayer. Hongki and the fan’s voices became entangled with each other in a whirlpool. As the song finished and the applause sounded, it felt as though they (the fans and FTISLAND) understood each other through the music. In FTISLAND’s lives, the rapport between the stage and the audience during this sort of stage is huge.

After the intense music, they continued on to a ‘cooling down’ acoustic set. Minhwan said, “We were worried about how we should let you hear the music from our indies era.

Seunghyun added, “so the songs we’ll play have been put into ‘blocks’ divided by season. In Japan, it goes spring, rainy season, then summer. However in Korea, the rainy season comes after summer. Without knowing this, we created the order according to Korea.”

To the backing of Seunghyun’s acoustic guitar, Jaejin started singing ‘Soyogi’, the ballad which conjures images of spring. Then, the bass was layered on top, and the vocal baton was passed to Seunghyun. During the hook of the song, Hongki’s vocals and Minhwan’s cajón overlapped, resounding in a beautiful harmony.

The mutual voices of Hongki and the fans in the venue took hold for the summery ‘Brand new Days’. Although it had been performed in this style since the first day at Toyosu PIT, the timing was changed from the original, and fans struggled to align with the new arrangement. However, fans finally succeeded during the final, and in response Hongki’s entire face lit up, and he gave the audience a thumbs up.

‘Raining’, the song coloured with the rainy season, started with Minhwan’s vocals and the fan’s voices layered upon each other. As the fans sang the chorus, Hongki would provide the harmony. He praised the fans, saying “I love hearing you sing. If I compare it to the first day, you’ve gradually gotten better.”

However, it wasn’t just FTISLAND’s main vocal Hongki singing, Jaejin, Seunghyun and Minhwan all took turns at the vocals. It was the addition of the fans’ vocals, creating perfect unity, which made this song so attractive. Sometimes intense, sometimes gentle, FTISLAND do not only push with power, but have also built up songs with varied expressions. Especially during this tour, there were many such scenes. The face of Hongki, who watched the fans singing along with gentle eyes, also created a lasting impression.  

“The atmosphere has become sad with only ballads, so we’ll raise your spirits with our favourite songs now,” said Hongki as ‘Hold the Moon’ started. When it was time for ‘Golden’, a song which Hongki professed he loved, he put his foot on the step and yelled ‘C’mon’. Gathering his voice, the excitement in the audience was roused.

The last section started with ‘Freedom’. Hongki descended from the stage and sprayed the audience with a water gun. After Seunghyun’s scream, Seunghyun and Jaejin both went from left to right, moving around all over the stage. At Hongki’s command of ‘sit down!’, the audience all sat in their seats at once. Then, at the height of the song, they all stood and shook their towels.

Continuing the excitement, next was the FT-style party tune ‘Puppy’. It was enjoyable experiencing the duet between the fans and FT, and there was also great unity enveloping the room for ‘Mitaiken Future’. With Minhwan’s drums gaining momentum, they brought their story to a close with their latest song ‘God Bless You.’ Its powerful sound enveloped the hall right until the end.

The encore opened with the magnificent ballad ‘Paradise’. On Hongki’s lead, Jaejin and Seunghyun sang solo, and then he pointed to the male fans in the audience and said, “just you (sing)!” Afterward, he said “Everyone!” and the whole hall sang as one.

“The next song is the last song of the tour. Everyone, you’ve worked hard,” Hongki said, while hanging his head low, “It’s been a long tour. We were ok with performing in small venues, because we said we just wanted to perform throughout Japan. To be the only Korean band to have been able to perform in so many different places, we held that sort of pride too.”

“Oh!” he shouted excitedly.

“Soon, we’ll have to head off, but we still have the Hiroshima live in August (replacement live), and my solo fan-meeting in July. We want to hold concerts until the very last moment before we leave. Even if it’s a sudden, surprise announcement, will you come play with us?” he asked the audience.

“This concert held a lot of meaning for us. We wanted to say ‘bye bye’ with smiles on our faces, however instead we made you worry. We will protect FTISLAND as 4. Even when we return (from enlistment), we will continue to be a band, so I ask that you please give us your continued support,” he said, which was met with long applause.

“We still have many things we want to show you, music we want to do, things we want to do. So we want to hold concerts until you all get sick of it,” he conveyed passionately to the fans.

Seunghyun, who became the lone guitarist this tour said, “during this tour, my position changed. Because there was not much time to practice, I considered cancelling the tour. However, I tried my hardest in order to protect our promise to you. You never know where life will lead you next. I received a lot of power from you. Thank you very much.”

On the first day at Toyosu PIT, his performance was filled with uncertainty. However, by the last day he showed us a stable and relaxed performance. There’s no mistaking it, Seunghyun was the one who grew the most during this tour.

“I’ve spent more than half my life with FTISLAND. From now on, we will work hard to protect the precious name of FTISLAND, so please give us your continued support.” (Minhwan)

“I used to worry about things like ‘why do you guys like us?’. Now, I just want to move forward with you all. We were nothing. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to shine.” (Jaejin)

One by one, they expressed their gratitude to the fans. Then, Hongki continued.

“Your support has strengthened our bond. You passed it on to us during every live, and I felt myself sigh after it was over. It wasn’t a sigh of worry, but rather a ‘thank goodness.’ I’m grateful,” Hongki said.

As he brought the concert to a close, he said “This is ‘Arigato’, a song that carries many meanings,” and launched into the first line of ‘Arigato’.

“We did it yesterday, so you would be mad if we didn’t do it today, right?” Hongki added as he surged into ‘Stay What You Are’. Hongki showed an amazing smile as he watched fans sing along determinedly. When the song finished, calls for another encore immediately rose. With ‘Orange Days’, this became the first triple encore of the tour. One final time, the sound of fans singing along swelled, bringing the concert to a close.

From now on, FTISLAND has become a 4-person band. On the first day, the fans conveyed their worries, however the 4 members responded one by one to these feelings during their performances. It felt as though the bonds between them and their fans have gradually grown even stronger. During this final performance, on this day, in this venue, it was certain that everyone thought, “even with only 4 people, this is FTISLAND.”

After this, FTISLAND will return to the Hiroshima City Cultural Exchange Hall on August 24 for a make-up performance. The previous performance on April 20 was cancelled due to the poor condition of Hongki’s throat.  

Hongki will also be holding his solo fan-meeting ‘Never Ending Story’ on July 12 and 13 at Pacifico Yokohama, National Convention Hall of Yokohama.

Jaejin will be participating as a guest bassist during ‘N.FLYING 2019 Live in Japan Brotherhood’ starting from June 4.
