Everything I am now is broken, oh and how much she could relate to that. How much she knew that deep down all she'd felt for years was broken. She wanted to be able to piece him back together, hell if she could she would, if only to make him feel whole, for even a few minutes, for even a moment. Why? She owed him nothing, she didn't owe him any kindness like that but maybe she had some sympathy for someone she could relate to so much, for someone she thought, might be able to understand her afflictions, her faults, who might appreciate each flaw entirely as it was and thing no lesser of her because of it.

Shameful to admit it but she liked this space they'd created, this little haven under a duvet, where warmth slowly enveloped them. It felt safe, he felt safe... and some part of her was telling her to snatch back her safety for herself, keep it close and not let anyone near enough that she'd be lulled into that, but she didn't want to. She wanted to stay like this, she wanted this mans warmth because he... he impressed her. She liked the answers he gave her, she liked the brutal, goddamn honesty. She liked that he didn't see her as just that sour faced woman behind reception, talked about by the whole building for being cruel when the reality was, she was far from it. People for the most part just didn't have the patience to understand Eris. He wouldn't have seen it but with her deep breath in, came the slow smile curving the corners of her lips. Brief and as fleeting as admiration but she had smiled at the admission he gave, that of all those people that did, he did not hate her. That wasn't so bad, at least she had one person and one was enough for her.

Facing him seemed like far more scary than staring into darkness but after that silent moment she leaned up just to swivel around and face him. "Maybe I will believe you then but just do you know, face to face... my admiration isn't fleeting." why had she said that? She whispered it into that delicate space so boldly? Either way she rest her head onto her hand and focused on his eyes, shimmying her body to fit snuggly under the arm that'd draped earlier, now that she was facing the other way.

Matthias was still trying his very best to focus on anything else but the woman in his bed. It was irresponsible and silly to feel like a teenager at this point in his life, yet the facts were stacked right against him. Ever since he managed to fix the generator and both of them retreated to his room, the piling of the snow outside stopped to seem like such a big problem for him. There were so many things wrong in his world right now and Matt wasn't the type of person to do anything about it right now. He'd given up on life a long time ago, turning his days into a familiar stream of minutes where nothing ever changed. And he liked it that way, he purposefully had put the effort to push anyone away from him, all in the name of making sure that they wouldn't end up caught in the mess that was his life. With no friends left, no girlfriend too, Matthias was sure in his loneliness. It was, after all, how everything should've been.

But Eris' words confused him; her closeness was like a catching fire that slowly but surely messed with his mind. He was just a man, after all. A very lonely, very broken, very sad man. So far temptations had managed to leave him alone, but none of this seemed to be possible now, when all of them came back with vengeance. "Unbroken...", he laughed humorlessly, the deep vibration passing through his chest and probably going all the way through hers too, considering how close they were. "Everything I am now is broken, Eris." His words weren't condescending, more like a tired confession of a cynic. But then she actually made him laugh and the sound once again startled him. This was all wrong. They barely knew each other; before this trip, Matt was certain the only things both of them had said to one another were just greetings in the morning and a 'have a nice evening' sometimes in the evenings. Now this, whatever this was, was as much shock to her as it was to him. "Ah, yes, I know who you're talking about. They seem... lively." Which was everything he wasn't anymore. It's not like he didn't remember what it was like to have girls and women fawn over him. He was just a human and feelings like that weren't against his nature. But to admit that he had never actually paid enough attention to the two women to notice that they were actually laughing because of him, meant more than enough in this instant. "Admiration is fleeting, believe me. Take it from someone who had it all and lost it all. There are others after me, others that are unbroken and can do the job out there even better than I ever could. That's just life." Yet his hand was already holding her tighter, her words of being hated lodged inside his brain. "I don't know about the others, but for the record - I don't hate you, Eris." Swallowing, Matt started to wonder if what he had in his mind would come off as wrong or would ruin literally anything. And yet, his mouth was moving again, before he could stop himself and reconsider. "Will you face me for a moment? I want to look you in the eyes when I tell you all of this again. Maybe you'll believe me then."

Y'know thinking back about Solche works, despite myself not ever reading through any of that shit, but I've noticed in both Bastian and Cry better yet beg is that Solche writes two types of women: "Women who exist to be useless expendable sexist stereotypical women whose only job is to make the leading lady shine" and "Leading ladies who are damsels in distress that aren't getting saved, they exist to give up the fantasy of a pure existence, the perfect victim and of course have to take the worst tortures for that to happen"

Kill the Villainess tackles the topic of SA CORRECT

I've never read Bastian (I will give it a read tho.)

Cry or Better Yet Beg, despite it being an insult to actual victims of abuse and SA on top or having a psychopath for a love interests (WHO FOR SOME REASON HAVE PEOPLE ROOTING FOR HIM DESPITE CLEARLY SHOWING SIGNS THAT HE'S THE SCUM OF THE EARTH), has potential.

Hear me out on this.

I mean, it already is a great story. I love reading about Layla's journey. Like baby girl's life fell apart when her mum left her to be with another man. She watched her father spiral into depression until he unfortunately passed away in his sleep. She got rejected and abused by damn near every family member who had her in their custody until she met Bill, who, despite being reluctant to take her in, grew to love and protect her. And we watch her grow to be hard-working and ambitious.

And I think Matthias' character has or had potential, too. But NOT as a Love Interest. I think the "bird in the cage" concept is an interesting idea to explore when it comes to Matthias' character because it reminds of Trevor Noah's quote in his book, Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood, where he explained:

"The way my mother always explained it, the traditional man wants a woman to be subservient, but he never falls in love with subservient women. He's attracted to independent women. "He's like an exotic bird collector," she said. "He only wants a woman who is free because his dream is to put her in a cage."

Matthias is not some confused and emotionally constipated man who's never felt or experienced love. He's far from it. And I don't think he's in love with Layla as many people delude - I mean think - he is. I don't think a man in love would ever view the person he's in love with as a bird he wants to keep in a cage.

Personally, i think what draws Matthias to Layla is that, Layla, like a bird (or the canary that he keeps caged), is a free spirit despite how hard and tough her life was growing up. And I also think Matthias loves the idea of taming and domesticating Layla, the same way a person tames a wild animal. And to add, I also think he views Layla as some kind of trophy. Something to possess and control.

Imagine how interesting Cry or Better Yet Beg would have been if it explored those themes and went that direction if Solche actually portrayed Matthias as the abusive POS he is instead of a love interest.

Imagine how interesting Cry or Better Yet Beg would have been if it was a story of a young bright and ambitious girl who loses her bright glow at the hands of an abusive and controlling aristocrat and ends up being stuck in an unhappy marriage with said abusive and controlling wrist WITHOUT giving that aristocrat an redemption arc with no pay off and make it seem like he can get away with the heinous things he did with NO character development and NO consequences for his actions.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? i’ll only do top three because i don’t really have too many! in third I have a one-shot called “first date” (gwynriel), second is another one-shot called “sparks and shadows” (azris), and then my top fic is “all you have is your fire” (elucien).

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? all my long fics right now are still ongoing, but all my eris related one-shots i think are pretty angsty.

16. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? i haven’t yet, but i will for one of my modern au elucien fics!!! i speak 3 languages, so i want to try and keep the dialogue between the ones i’m familiar with :)
