EMPTY Encounters of the Archaic Sort • Abeyance (AU)

It reminded me of when I had gotten off of the teacup ride during my first visit. A desolate, destroyed, and empty carnival ground. But this time, the trash had been buried. Rides were overgrown. And the air of fear and suspense had vanished, leaving something indescribable. 

HEAT A Ghost, a Quill, and a Mockingbird • Chapter 6

Though it is not a tomb for them, as one might expect. It is a tomb for another, older presence. A once living planet, a celestial, left to turn cold and weary within the stone walls of a suffocated world. Quill runs gentle fingers along the worn inscriptions of an ancient sphere, tracing its patterns like clockwork. The energy within has dimmed since she has last visited. She has known it would happen, that the life would fade out of this place too, but she is much less than prepared for it to happen at this moment.  Limbs stiffen as she presses her palm harder against the rapidly cooling stone, heat escaping and draining through the ground, away from her. It takes all her strength not to break, to press her body against the one connection she is losing.

TREE (tw: animal death, poison, violence, grief) Snippet • Aritihne

Eros gasped as a sharp wave of distress pounded through their chest and Aritihnes cry echoed through their head. They immediately stepped away from the tree they had been infusing, vanishing in a puff of pink smoke, and honed in on her energy. Instead, a different energy filled their senses and they snarled; Alchios was here. It only took a few moments before they appeared nearby. They scanned the situation, eyes widening with realization before they swapped vision with Aritihne to very clearly see Alchios injecting her. Their nail had plunged deep into her neck, aura pulsing as their poison infected her. Her veins bulged a sickly green as she spasmed and cried out once more. 

CHANCE Arcane • Draft 2 • Chapter 1

By now, Maitera had ascended into the night sky. Auris watched a faint light spark from an upstairs window and made their way across the moonlit lawn, giving a respectful nod to Maitera in the hopes they would not be seen; they had not yet perfected their personal veil when it came to movement, and they were not going to take chances. They headed toward the side entrance, reaching it without consequence. The family had always left the side door unlocked for the staff. 

REMAIN Snippet • Drunk On Life

A squeak escapes her lips as they pull her along with them. Their hand caresses her cheek, running feather-light fingers against her skin and causing her heartrate to jump, and then before she can move, they have leaned forward to brush the merest whisper of a kiss against her lips. When they do not continue, she pulls away. A tingle spreads across her lips and her rune pulses softly with Eros’ energy in time with their heart. They scoot down to rest their head in her lap, purr as strong as ever, and soon, they are asleep. Her hand finds their hair and she plays with the silky smooth strands, relaxing despite herself. For now, she is content for them to remain asleep in her lap; questions can wait until later.

TRUE Snippet • Knight

After a quiet moment, Solace speaks, "Someone seems to have wanted to see you again." He stands, then. "Perhaps I should leave you two alone?" Auris doesn't respond; their gaze hasn't moved from the being's face since they'd first looked toward him. They are hardly aware as Solace moves away, true to his word. A quiet falls. Almost as if the world itself is holding its breath along with Auris. It is all they can do to watch the man breathe. A reminder for them to do the same. 

GUESS Snippet • An Idiotic Plan

“Listen, I need you to be on board with this idea, okay?” “Well guess what’s not going to fucking happen?” Sirieve stared down at Asimina, her expression one of disbelief. There was no way she was going to help Asimina raid the royal cargo ships. It would be much too dangerous, and Sirieve was rigid in her unwillingness to put Asimina’s life on the line. Sirieve didn’t think she could handle the guilt and pain of losing her.

After what had happened to her husband, Name shut herself out completely from all the others. Her breakdown caused pain towards others. Especially Eros who had attempted multiple times to be there for her only to be pushed away.

Her husband's funeral came and went with her not bothering to make an appearance. His relatives, siblings especially, did not approve of this and didn't bother giving her the fortune her husband had left for her.

Everyone was mourning the lost of a powerful icon in the empire, unbeknownst to them that someone found this more amusing than anything in the world.

Eros played with a quill, thinking what to answer to a letter regarding the details of death of the duke. He decided that it'd be best to write the actual details instead of reporting it as confidential due to the suspicions that may occur if he dared do so.

In Name's room, laid the weak and frail Name who barely slept and looked horrid. Face stained with tear streaks she looked out the window, watching the countless people walking around and being productive. This productive behavior made her feel terrible for they were there acting so happy and enjoying their works whilst she laid here with no work to be done as well as no happiness to be spent on a productive day.

This caused something in her to stir as in moments she found herself fully bathe and dressed in a dress tailored for her by her husband. He had loved her in this dress. She was certain he'd be happy seeing her like this if his spirit was still here.

Before she could leave the room, a rustling of leaves stopped midway towards the door. A familiar scent greeted her in the air. Turning around she found no one there, yet the strong scent lingered. Who was that? Walking towards the balcony, she found no one there only an empty place with the scent being stronger than before. A sigh escaped her lips as she just left, unknown to her that someone was dangling on the ledge above the balcony.

He watched as the girl left without another action. His rare colored optics gleaming with delight as he jumped down. Rummaging through the papers and things he found a lot of things belonging to her and her husband. He was here to investigate about the husband, and who better to search from than the lover herself?

A smirk played onto his lips as he found a few key information from those letters especially from her diary talking about sudden disappearances and calls given to her husband.

Finishing up with his work, he made sure to organize everything as how they were to avoid suspicion. With that done he had one more thing to do, placing a wrapped gift onto the bed he looked over his shoulder once more to analyze his work before deciding to leave. Hence the reason why there were tons of fallen leaves found the next day.

Name entered her room to find the present. Who..?

Opening it slowly, she found a necklace embedded with a ruby. It was beautiful and certainly unexpected. Did the crowned prince give this to her as surprise gift? He did mention he'd give her whatever she desired to make her happy once more, but this was a bit too much. Taking it, she put it on. The necklace looked amazing and she felt happy receiving it.

From afar a male smiled in relief. At least she enjoys the gift.

Few days have gone by and Name came to thank the prince for the necklace he had so kindly gifted. This made Eros stop since he did not give her that necklace. Eyeing the necklace he wondered who gave it and most importantly how much experience did this person have in fighting due to the thought of challenging the person when the time came.

A ball was approaching, so Name decided to take a trip to the tailor. She had just finished her rendezvous when she accidentally bumped into a male who was running. The male picked up the things for her as he looked up at the same time as her.

A gasp escaped from her lips as she came face-to-face with a familiar set of eyes. Eyes that had haunted her for days. Eyes that belonged to a male who had broke into her room due to being chased.

The crimson eyes that belonged to this same stranger.

Hey there, screen junkies and digital voyeurs! Today, we're diving into the mesmerizing world of "Black Mirror," where technology and human nature collide like a clumsy Tinder date. Buckle up for a sarcastic, unfiltered journey through the eerie parallels between the dark tales of "Black Mirror," the shadows of early America, and the bizarre Twilight Zone of our modern culture. Because who needs a comfort zone when you have a Black Mirror?

Early America, where communication meant quills, ink, and the occasional carrier pigeon. Fast forward to today's "Nosedive" episode, where social ratings reign supreme. Forget about gossiping over the white picket fence; we're giving each other side-eye based on how many likes our latest Instagram post gets. Ah, the sweet smell of social validation in any century.

In the episode "San Junipero," Black Mirror takes us on a soul-searching quest for immortality through simulated realities. If our ancestors had Black Mirror, they might have opted for the eternal colonial spa experience, complete with quill massages and horse-drawn carriage VR tours. After all, who needs to face the grim reality of early America when you can escape to San Colonial-ero?

"White Bear" introduces us to a world of public shaming on steroids. But hey, early America did it first with the Scarlet Letter. Puritans would probably watch "White Bear" and say, "Back in our day, we just made them wear an 'A' for adultery, not run a surreal obstacle course."

In "The National Anthem," we witness a scandalous scenario involving a beloved public figure and a pig. Early America would've been like, "Hold my quill; we wrote the book on scandalous scenarios. Just ask Alexander Hamilton." Modern culture may be shocked, but our forefathers were busy dueling over affairs.

"Bees" and hashtags unite in "Hated in the Nation" to wreak havoc. Early America may not have had robo-bees, but they had the town gossip buzzing about everyone's business. Imagine if our forefathers had Twitter; Thomas Jefferson's drafts would have been buzzing like an apiary.

"Black Mirror" is the modern-day looking glass into the dark corners of our tech-obsessed minds, but the echoes of eeriness resonate through the annals of history. So, the next time you're tempted to rate your neighbor based on their lawn-mowing skills, remember that the digital dystopia of "Black Mirror" is just a high-tech remix of the quirky, unfiltered tales of early America. As many of you may have heard, we have recently found ourselves in the middle of a series of catastrophic incidents known as INCURSIONS. Incursions, when triggered, cause realities to collide into one another. The result is one -- or both -- of the realities being entirely annihilated. It has come to our attention that one has recently been triggered by STEPHEN STRANGE and that our reality is likely next in this string of decimations. Our home, designated Earth-616, is set to interact with Earth-199999. 

As it stands, the Baxter Foundation has headed all research into the Incursions and multiversal travel. They will be hosting a debriefing meeting on 28 July 2022 at 4 Yancy Street. Please see the attached list of those invited.
