Note
since I can ask 1980s characters, I would like to ask Etsuko Hayashibara (1980s Sports Club Girl) something:
How do you feel about Sumiko Tachibana? I know you're the fastest runner of Akademi, and Sumiko is the star athlete, so I was wondering if you two are rivals? Or maybe friends? I would like to know!
Tumblr media
*Narrator voice* Sumiko died later that day and the girls never got closer.

April flew by! I was in a weird mood for the most part of month, so I read more comics and manga than the usual. I read some great and not-so-great ones and at the same time I listened to some excellent audiobooks.
Talking about all the books I read in April under the cut!
In reading order:
Fledgling by Octavia E. Butler. Fledgling was a big disappointment. I loved the idea and the beginning was great, but some things started to make me uncomfortable and they piled up throughout the story. I didn’t want to dfn and ended forcing myself to finish it :( Great vampire mythology, though.
Come On In: 15 Stories about Immigration and Finding Home edited by Adi Alsaid This was a very nice anthology! There were happy, sad, and angering stories. The variety of immigrant experiences portrayed is so vast! Read if you want: emotional short-stories.
There Are Things I Can’t Tell You by Edako Mofumofu Hmmmm, this bl manga was ok? I don’t think I’ll remember much of the story by next month, though.
Still Sick, Volume 1 by Akashi I hated the plot twist about one of the main characters that changed the whole dynamics of the couple. I don’t even know why I finished this manga 😤
Joy by Etsuko This one was fun! One of the main characters is a bl mangaka and he imagines being in love with his assistant to have inspiration for his new story. Obviously, he falls in love at some point. I loved the funny and lighthearted scenes! Read if you want: a fluffy and funny bl manga.
Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley This thriller was so interesting! I enjoyed reading about Daunis’s family drama and also how she conducted how own investigation while working for the FBI. I think it could be a bit shorter and quicker, but it is still a great book! Read if you want: NA slow-paced thriller with family drama.
Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker with Wendy Xu (Illustrator) This was wholesome! I liked it so much! I loved the coziness of Nova’s house, Nova’s grandmas are adorable! Nova and Tam’s relationship is so cute and full of mutual support! I think the ending is a little bit rushed, but the story is overall so cute and cozy that I can’t wait to buy a physical copy!
Seven Days: Monday → Thursday and Seven Days: Friday → Sunday by Venio Tachibana and Rihito Takarai I read this manga back in 2012? Mental breakdown, because it’s been almost ten years. I remembered that I loved it so much! And it got a live-action? What? I don’t know if I’ll be able to watch it… Anyway, the manga. Not as great as I recalled. To be honest, a little bland. And the drama is a bit silly. There are some cute scenes but that’s it.
Boys Run the Riot by Keito Gaku You can see my full review here. In short, this is an emotional coming of age manga about a trans boy teaming up with his new friend to create a brand together! It deals with serious themes but there are also funny, cute, and beautiful scenes. Read if you want: own voices coming of age manga, trans characters, queer stories with a focus on friendship.
Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark Mr. Clark here is becoming a new favorite. The idea of this story is so creative and the execution is fantastic! I won’t talk much about it due to its length but I highly recommend it! Read if you want: historical fantasy with demons and lots of action!
The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune I finally read this after seeing it all over Tumblr! And it lived up to my expectations! It’s adorable! The found family trope is so cute and Linus slowly  changing throughout the book is a delight to read. And queer romance with people in their forties? Irresistible. Read if you want: a lighthearted novel, with a tale-like tone, found family trope, magical kids that need love and support, queer romance with older characters.
The Sky Blues by Robbie Couch Oh, we need more ya books that are not necessarily about coming out? In this one, someone leaks Sky’s plans to invite his school crush to prom and he and his friends go on an investigation to find out who did it. I loved that the focus is on friendship and uniting to fight together. Read if you want: teenagers fighting the system!!!, queer books not about coming out, friendship!!!
Spirit Hunters by Ellen Oh More spooky middle-grade books! Harper has to save her brother from being possed by a ghost in their new house while trying to collect pieces from her lost memory. It’s a cool adventure, with the right amount of spooky and danger and I loved the characters! Read if you want: safe spooky, kids saving the day, ghosts.
Hotel Iris by Yoko Ogawa. I knew this book would be strange, but it was more strange than I expected. The ending is bizarre and I still don’t know if I like it or not…
Rereads:
Lady Killer, Vol. 1 by Jamie S. Rich and Joëlle Jones

Happy Reading  (◕‿◕✿)

yakuza/monhun pt2 (kiryu, majima, nishiki, haruka, akiyama, saejima, extra)
kiryu: -has never killed a large monster (he captures them/drives elder dragons away), except for fatalis -willingly assists other hunters/researchers when they ask for help on missions -singlehandedly took down fatalis (“you kill a legendary dragon and suddenly everyone calls you ‘dragonlord’”) -fusses over haruka too much (“have you eaten? are you stocked up on medicine? traps?” etc) -forgets he has helpful consumables. often leaves on a hunt with only a few potions (despite constantly ensuring haruka is stocked up) -his palico is named Himawari (sometimes seen wearing an ono michio head)
more below the cut:
majima: -is known for interrupting hunts (especially kiryu’s) and stealing captures/kills -has a soft spot for dog-like large monsters (ex. odogaron and zinogre) -has only killed elder dragons (captures regular large monsters) -generally hunts alone, but will help out if asked by certain people -assists haruka when kiryu isn’t around -sometimes forgets to eat before hunts, and only restocks items when he runs out -no palico (he’d have a palamute though)
nishiki: -prefers to hunt with others rather than alone -everyone appreciates a hunting horn, but some people won’t admit it -amicable with everyone! (akiyama and tanimura occasionally get on his nerves) -sometimes sulks after a hunt goes wrong -might be best friends with the grammeowster chef -responsible with his inventory, has to remind kiryu to restock every now and then -will not use mantles -often helps the endemic life team with their research on fish -no palico
haruka: -has never killed a large monster (captures them), refuses to fight elder dragons -assists with a variety of missions from everyone -occasionally fills in as a temporary handler -in good favor with everyone -between her and nishiki, they remind kiryu to restock his inventory frequently -her palico is named Gloria, but she usually leaves her at the base
akiyama: -doesn’t actively hunt monsters, but knows how to wield a lance/glaive when necessary -he defends his cart when transporting goods, but sometimes tanimura, shinada, and/or watase join him on his escort missions -often too busy to assist his friends out in the field -he will reward hunters with a lot of consumables if they complete various tasks for him (they’re actually generic requests that akiyama received. he’s pawning them off on others) -no palico
saejima: -earned his title fighting 5 brute tigrex back to back (unexpectedly) in a single hunt -generally hunts alone, but will fight alongside others if asked -often hangs around the armory in astera, close to majima and commander daigo -the only mantle he uses is the ghilie mantle, for egg transport missions -dislikes hunting in the hoarfrost reach. the cold bites despite heavy layers -takes care of poogie the most (secretly) -his palico is named Melon
extra: -the majima family runs the astera armory (minami), and majima construction runs the steamworks (nishida) -yuya is the head blacksmith in seliana. kazuki sells armor there -poogie walks around as ono michio. saejima takes off the head so that poogie can see, but someone puts it back on whenever he leaves (it’s kiryu) -mirei works in seliana’s gathering hub -the morning glory kids help out the researchers and the chefs -hunters test themselves in the arena. kiryu doesn’t care much for it -some of the sunshine/four shine hostesses are handlers, others are on the research teams -yuki constantly checks in on majima. makoto and mirei tease him about it -etsuko is seliana’s melder. hana doesn’t like her too much at first -makoto regularly gives massages to the hunters in astera -tachibana is the seliana merchant, and is business partners with akiyama. kind of. -oda serves as tachibana’s escort -nagumo and the hirose boys handle the trade ship

The Anime That Changed Me
Hello everyone, it’s been a while. Hope you are all okay.
Recently, I stumbled across old songs, songs that brought differences into my life at 2 years ago.
RADWIMP - 夢灯籠 (Yumetourou) and  RADWIMP - 前前前世 (Zen Zen Zense).
These songs were in the anime movie that changed my life:
君の名は。-  Kimi No Nawa. (Your Name.)

“I came to see you. It wasn’t easy because you were so far away.” – Taki Tachibana
If this movie doesn’t ring a bell in you, then I’ll have to tell you to watch it.
Believe me, it’s worth your time.
This movie came during the time of when I was a bright and happy student who was just starting to be more independent as the modules I picked in school encouraged me to do so.
During happy times, came the sad ones as well.
It was the last movie I watched with a close friend of mine before he migrated.
Tumblr media
a scene in the movie (but not the first scene)
As soon as the movie started up, I was blown away, instantly.
So many places in the movie, I’d love to visit.
When I’m older, I’ll do so since I have plans for it.
Do note that, I came back into watching anime recently, and this movie was recommended and popular.
Being curious, I finally understood why.
It managed to bring out feelings that I didn’t think existed in me.
I was happy.
I was curious.
I was crying.

During the climax, I remember crying, terribly.
This movie was one of the few special animes that had made me to do better in life, whether it was in studies, or in character.

It’s moments like this, I realised how life can change a lot in such short timings.
My best friend, seeing me cry, handed me tissues to wipe my tears.
It’s nothing to many, but it means a lot to me.
After that, he left for Canada, and I lost contact with him.
However, I believe he’s alright, and I hope to see him come back someday.
As a person growing up still, I always tried to seek comfort in many people, usually my close friends.
At the end of the day, I wish sometimes I could receive tight hugs from everyone.
To me, it’s better than saying goodbye.
Thinking about my mistakes I made since then, I regretted a lot making time for the people that I realised aren’t worth my time.
However, I have sympathy for them, as if they dislike me, it’s their issue, not mine anymore.
Now, I struggle a lot, but I have it under control.
Though I have a better life compared to last year, my only regret was not spending more time with my best friends.
But the distance between us as they move on to different schools doesn’t stop me from being able to contact them.
Tumblr media
So what did I do?
I moved on, and stopped caring about the smallest of doubts.
I was so afraid of moving on, but I know it’s inevitable.
Now and then, I tend to think about the past, but then it only brings good memories no matter how bad they are.
I try my best to be myself in front of everyone, and from what I see, they accept me, and I thank them for it.
When people judge you for watching such things, such as anime, saying it’s pointless, I’ll come up and say that there are some that teaches us things.
For Kimi No Nawa, from my point of view, it’s the importance of cherishing what you have still.
Say thank you to your friends, say I love you to your family, hug everyone that you know.
Be happy even if you don’t have anything at the moment because what you wish for will definitely come to you if you work hard for it.
I hope you enjoyed my blog update today, it’s one where I don’t include personal pictures that I’ve taken.
Recently, things have been rough on me, I have doubts of passing finals, but with your support, I can do it.
I’m really blessed with everyone that still supports me to this day, I’m really shy with your compliments, but I thank you a lot for it.
Till next time!
Love you.
