You know how some interactions will stick with you to the end of time? I had one with a coworker once that I will never stop coming back to so I can giggle.
I said we were going to Poland for a week, in July, to see my partner's family. Mama and babcia had been more or less demanding we go out for a while.
She said, 'better pack your skis and thermals!'
So I laughed a bit confused and said that we won't need those, it'll be well over 40C in Silesia. Hot enough for local news reporters to attempt to fry an egg on a car.
She looked at me, very confused, and then said with utmost confidence 'no it won't. Poland is a COLD country. It snows there.'
So I said 'yes, but not all the time. They have much colder winters sure, and much hotter summers.'
Her response? 'No. Poland is COLD.'
After some more back and forth we established that she believes that only England and a few other 'proper' countries have seasons, and the rest are all either 'hot' (like Spain, which doesn't have winter and is summer always) or 'cold' like Poland (which is sad and grey and snowy winter always and why so many Polish people go to other countries). She couldn't locate any of these countries on a map, mind, despite her parents having retired to an English enclave in Spain.
I tried a lot of things to convince her that no, every country in the world has seasonal variation, but I really don't think she believed me. Pretty sure she's still out there convinced that in Poland and Russia and similarly located places December and July look the same. I should really have asked if she thinks everyone in Australia sits on the ceiling too...
She was in her 40s with two teenage kids and has a masters degree in cellar biology. Can't help but think she should have studied some geography with that.

“Sooner or later, Twitter will have to decide whether to comply with the DSA,” an EU official told EURACTIV. That decisive moment might come later in the year when very large online platforms must publish their first risk assessment to be vetted by external auditors. “Twitter has no capacity to start undertaking the required risk assessments. If they produce nothing, they are probably done in Europe,” Rebekah Tromble, director of the George Washington University’s Institute for Data, Democracy & Politics, told EURACTIV.
Goodbye lol

hey uhhh. why the FUCK would you write the headline like that? like in 2015 you didn't see headlines like "the US sent gay people to conversion camps and had them lobotomized, now its Supreme Court is legalizing same-sex marriage." Cuba is on the verge of doing something amazing, meanwhile the US is facing a wave of homophobia and transphobia and a group of unelected judges can just decide to take the country back decades to the time of sodomy laws. then again, i'm not surprised that the Washington Post would write an article about a socialist country in the global south like this 🙄

Meta & Flint, the freaks who named their daughter Oblivion.
Don't let their looks fool you, they are actually good parents. (Maybe "okay" parents, they did let Liv run away with her boyfriend they never met and his band at 15. (But she was responsible and called them to explain her decision and that she already talked with the school and will be taking special exams at the end of every semester, so it's all good lmao.))

In my AU the Techno/Rock Trolls are the largest population of mixed trolls. They live concentrated along the shore between the Rock and Techno Kingdoms and also extending north into the no-man's-land on the map. This whole area is simply referred to as "the Shallows". They have their own communities and villages there which are located partially on land or exposed reefs/rocks and partially in the water.
Liv grew up in one of those villages. Her parents own a small apartment carved into a cliff side above the ocean. Personally they prefer walking over floating/swimming, and they can't stay in the sun for too long either (they all inherited sun sensitive skin from their Techno sides) so this way they're mostly on land and also aren't in direct sunlight after noon.
It's a modest home but I imagine they must have the prettiest sunrises.
Tumblr media
Despite the Shallows having their own communities they still belong under the Rock Kingdom which doesn't really care about them or their different needs much, so a lot of the trolls living there are very anti authority.

HELLO THIS IS YET AGAIN ANOTHER REMINDER TO VOTE FOR EUROPEAN ELECTIONS
"AND WHY THE F---- SHOULD I???" Edition
Because the EU has a meh to fucking excellent track record on the following topics and can do good work if you send the right people there:
Data privacy
Queer rights
Women's rights
Culture and Education
Green policies (I know, I KNOW, but still)
Consumer's rights
Food safety
And it's got a shit track records on the following that will keep on getting worse if you do NOT vote:
Immigration and asylum
Authoritarianism and democratic backslide
Fiscal policies
Lack of democratic input
Because you may not be sure if it's worthy it, but we know exactly WHO will be VERY motivated to go vote, and they are not exactly putting a green ballot in the box.
