ABOUT
The Jones pack lived for generations in the countryside of Georgia, owning Blue River Ranch. Everett was immersed into the great outdoors from the moment he was born, and the vast land and acreage provided a beautiful backdrop to his childhood. Even more so when his younger brother was born, Ethan. Hours were spent rambling through their land, creating stories and games but both of them knew that being a Jones meant much more than owning a ranch or becoming a typical country gent. It was against Jones nature to turn wolves away, welcoming in lone or banished wolves and despite the various personalities that existed within the pack, it was always led with fairness and acceptance.
As the Jones brothers grew older, a sense of adventure was always in the air. From working on their ranch to causing harmless havoc wherever they went. But Ethan quickly met and fell in love with Ava and Everett saw the positive changes that a love like it could bring. Not particularly something he wanted for himself. In fact, he was a slight Casanova right up until he was almost thirty. Responsibility came knocking in the form of a son, and for the sake of being a family, Everett tried his best to work out a relationship with his mother, Michelle. It was clear as day that they were no Ava and Ethan, a foundation built on respect and hard work instead of adoration. And, two years later, a daughter was born.
Everett knew that it was his birth passage to become Alpha but, he quickly realized that his younger brother was far better suited for the role. It's within Jones blood to be a little impulsive and scrappy but Ava had worked magic on Ethan, creating a far more level-headed man out of the Jones than could be said for Everett. He humbly passed along the baton, watching with pride as his little brother took upon the role as Alpha and he became Beta instead. At this time, Michelle and his relationship was on the rocks and he should have predicted that she would be a flight risk considering she came into the Jones pack as a wolf that abandoned her previous pack. Their children weren't even in double digits when she left, and Everett soldiered on to be the best possible father he could be.
He spent time looking for Michelle, but as their children grew, his focus shifted entirely to them. He's always been open and honest about her, about their relationship and how perhaps his lack of heart possibly broke hers. Still, Everett ensures he is there every single step of the way for his son and daughter. He's probably created two monsters without realization, as consequences and reform were never in the equation for Everett. Do no harm, take no shit, have fucking fun. He was there for every recital, every game, every try out. He was even there for every drinking session in the bar until his older ass couldn't keep up and he became the designated driver instead.
And then the war came and took the Jones' blissful life away from them. Everett saw the impressive way his nephew Jackson handled the chaos of that night when the ranch was destroyed. It made him realize he's no spring chicken these days, and has a few cobwebs that can't be dusted off. When they finally found Hollow Cove, Everett retired his role of Beta and strongly suggested for Jackson to step into it. However, he still offers guidance and advice to any of his family and uses his years of experience to hopefully steer people in the right direction.
Hollow Cove has been good to them, Everett will always say it. It's no Blue River Ranch but he knows that they're all together and that in itself is priceless. Family has always meant everything to the Jones' and Everett sometimes finds himself sitting back and watching them all, a proud smile on his face when he looks at his brother. After everything they've lost, they still feel as if they have the world.

DRINA FREYSSON – Helping around town and remaining close to her sisters as they assist their leaders. She’s gone on runs but continues to struggle with grief. But that grief is what motivates her to help others find their loved ones, despite missing her own, and also she's begun to busy herself around town to keep from being idle. / Muse level: low – medium

GRRM, Sansa Stark & The Pre-Raphaelites
Just thought I'd compile this collection of Sansa-esque paintings (+ a little bit about TPB), since people seemed to like my recent ask answer about Florian and Jonquil, connecting the song, and Sansa, most notably to John William Waterhouse.
As a little bit of background, here's some info on what the Pre-Raphaelites were all about, taken from ...isms: Understanding Art, by Stephen Little:
The work of the Pre-Raphaelites was exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in the early 1850s, and caused controversy for abandoning Academic conventions. Pre-Raphaelite artists paid great attention to naturalistic detail. They also used vivid colour and explored medieval and literary subject matter.
[...]
The three artists [Holman Hunt, Millais, Rossetti] chose the name 'Pre-Raphaelite' because they wanted to return to what they considered to be the painterly and spiritual 'purity' of art prior to Raphael. Instead of idealising the natural form and incorporating it within an overal design, the Pre-Raphaelites preferred to concentrate on the naturalistic detail of the subject in its setting.
Notable artists in the Brotherhood, or likewise heavily associated with them, include:
Edward Burne-Jones (1833–98)
William Holman Hunt (1827–1910)*
John Everett Millais (1829–96)*
William Morris (1834–96)
Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828–82)*
John William Waterhouse (1849–1917)
*Founding members.
According to their entry on Tate.org, the Pre-Raphaelites were:
Inspired by the theories of John Ruskin, who urged artists to ‘go to nature’, they believed in an art of serious subjects treated with maximum realism. Their principal themes were initially religious, but they also used subjects from literature and poetry, particularly those dealing with love and death. They also explored modern social problems.
Furthermore, according to this short essay, also on the Tate:
A lot of the themes they chose to depict were quite daring for the time – including problematic subjects such as poverty, emigration, prostitution and the double standard of sexual morality in society. Their pictures require a lot of concentrated reading and are so densely encoded with signs and symbols that you have to work hard at deciphering them.
This kind of attention to detail feels arguably very similar to what GRRM is trying to do in his writing. Their interests also line up quite nicely with ASOIAF as well: "serious subjects treated with maximum realism", heavily influenced by literature and poetry.
To back up my claim that I think GRRM is a fan of the Pre-Raphaelites, here's a quote from an interview with artist Jonathan Burton, who has illustrated AGOT and ACOK for the Folio Society:
AL: One of the things that I noticed in this volume was that you used different colors to differentiate art for different characters: Tyrion, Arya and Bran all get Earth-ish tones, Jon gets stark whites / blacks, while Sansa gets a vivid greens and reds. What are you hoping to signal here?
JB: I’m glad you’ve asked! It’s a conscience decision to differentiate between worlds and for example I love the contrast between the sisters of Sansa’s ‘romantic’ view of the world and Arya’s gruesome reality. I think Sansa suits a Pre-Raphaelite romanticism, always believing she will be rescued by a handsome knight no matter how grim her circumstances. Arya in contrast is down in the dirt and drawn much more harshly. [source]
If we look at GRRM's response on his notablog it seems like he whole heartedly approves of Burton's work. Oh, and who is that in the first image below his text (1 of 3 images attached to the post, 1 of 2 illustrations)? Well, I do believe that's our girl Sansa! Certainly in this image by Burton you can see quite clearly the artistic influence taken from the Pre-Raphaelites/Waterhouse:
Tumblr media
The delicate face, as well as the visual framing — a redhead tucked away to the left hand corner, in amongst the trees — is very similar to this painting by John William Waterhouse:
Tumblr media
(Echo and Narcissus, 1903)
Additionally, the streaming red hair, even the exact shade of it, is also very reminscent of Dante Gabriel Rossetti's Lady Lilith (a painting I'll include further down) — Rossetti was a founding member of the PRB.
So the illustrator for the Folio Society editions was inspired by the Pre-Raphaelites...but what does GRRM think of them?
Ice and Fire seems linked to a medieval time. Do you like the art of that period?
Medieval-period art is a little too crude for my tastes. I mean, these days, it looks very stylised. In terms of classic art I respond more to the later period – the Dutch masters and the Flemish masters, and the Pre-Raphaelites.
I went to a show about the Pre-Raphaelites that was going around the US in 2013 and it was amazing – all of that lush, romantic stuff, and a lot of it drawing on Romantic themes, though it wasn't painted in medieval times. You know, knights and ladies and all of that. That stuff’s gorgeous. I like that movement in general.
When we talk about artistic movements of the past, some of them are just scholars looking at people and grouping artists together and saying, 'they were doing a movement'.
But with the Pre-Raphaelites they actually were a movement, they all knew each other, they hung out together and they said, 'we are the Pre-Raphaelites'. [source]
Am I surprised by this? Absolutely not. Oh, you went to a show about the Pre-Raphaelites? Yeah, I bet you did and I bet you bloody loved it. I bet you loved all those redheads too, because as we know...George's wife is a redhead. It really is all about the redheads when it comes to that man, honestly. But I can see why he'd also be very interested in them as a movement as well, since they weren't exclusively painters, they were poets and illustrators and writers as well — e.g. the Rossettis (Dante Gabriel + his sister Christina) and William Morris. Plus, as noted previously, their artistic principles align quite well with what GRRM is interested in his own writing, at least IMO.
So, it's pretty clear that GRRM is a fan of the Pre-Raphaelites (and most definitely John William Waterhouse), and a common type of model for these paintings were...redheads. Indeed, some of the most famous ones, of the original group, were Elizabeth Siddall (an artist in her own right), as well as Euphemia "Effie" Grey. Romantic redheads...it all just screams Sansa, doesn't it? So without further ado, here's some paintings (with accompanying quotes), which I think most evoke Sansa Stark:
Tumblr media
(John William Waterhouse, The Soul of the Rose, 1908)
To the other maidens he had given white roses, but the one he plucked for her was red. "Sweet lady," he said, "no victory is half so beautiful as you." Sansa took the flower timidly, struck dumb by his gallantry. His hair was a mass of lazy brown curls, his eyes like liquid gold. She inhaled the sweet fragrance of the rose and sat clutching it long after Ser Loras had ridden off. – AGOT, Sansa II
Tumblr media
(Arthur Hughes, The Painted Heart, or Sigh No More, Ladies, or Juliet and her Nurse, 1867–72)
Her maids sluiced the blood off her face, scrubbed the dirt from her back, washed her hair and brushed it out until it sprang back in thick auburn curls. Sansa did not speak to them, except to give them commands; they were Lannister servants, not her own, and she did not trust them. When the time came to dress, she chose the green silk gown that she had worn to the tourney. She recalled how gallant Joff had been to her that night at the feast. Perhaps it would make him remember as well, and treat her more gently. – AGOT, Sansa VI
Tumblr media
(John William Waterhouse, Psyche Opening the Door into Cupid's Garden, 1904)
The words were the same on the hundredth reading as they'd been on the first, when Sansa had discovered the folded sheet of parchment beneath her pillow. She did not know how it had gotten there or who had sent it. The note was unsigned, unsealed, and the hand unfamiliar. She crushed the parchment to her chest and whispered the words to herself. "Come to the godswood tonight, if you want to go home," she breathed, ever so faintly. – ACOK, Sansa II
Tumblr media
(Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Lady Lilith, 1868)
Men would say she had my look, but she will grow into a woman far more beautiful than I ever was, you can see that. I often sent away her maid so I could brush her hair myself. She had auburn hair, lighter than mine, and so thick and soft...the red in it would catch the light of the torches and shine like copper. – ACOK, Catelyn VII
Tumblr media
(Dante Gabriel Rossetti, The Annunciation, 1849–50)
But as she crouched there, on her hands and knees, understanding came. "No, please," Sansa whimpered, "please, no." She didn't want this happening to her, not now, not here, not now, not now, not now, not now. – ACOK, Sansa IV
Tumblr media
(John William Waterhouse, Mariana in the South, 1897)
When Gretchel fetched her Lysa's silvered looking glass, the color seemed just perfect with Alayne's mass of dark brown hair. Lord Royce will never know me, she thought. Why, I hardly know myself. – AFFC, Alayne I
Tumblr media
(John William Waterhouse, Juliet, 1898)
"[...] My daughter is a maiden tall and fair, and her hair is chestnut. Men see what they expect to see, Alayne." – AFFC, Alayne I
Tumblr media
(John William Waterhouse, Boreas, 1903)
While Gretchel was tending to the fire, Alayne padded barefoot across the room and slipped outside. The stone was cold beneath her feet, and the wind was blowing fiercely, as it always did up here, but the view made her forget all that for half a heartbeat. Maiden's was the easternmost of the Eyrie's seven slender towers, so she had the Vale before her, its forests and rivers and fields all hazy in the morning light. The way the sun was hitting the mountains made them look like solid gold. – AFFC, Alayne I
I could keep going but apparently there is a 10 image limit...but you get the point! Sansa is a Pre-Raphaelite girl, and I love that for her.

Abbey Road
Some of the Wikipedia page for Abbey Road is annoying, although I suppose that’s only because the takes it’s based on are annoying:
“Musicologist Walter Everett interprets that most of the lyrics on side two's medley deal with "selfishness and self-gratification - the financial complaints in 'You Never Give Me Your Money,' the miserliness of Mr. Mustard, the holding back of the pillow in 'Carry That Weight,' the desire that some second person will visit the singer's dreams – perhaps the 'one sweet dream' of 'You Never Give Me Your Money'? – in 'The End.'"
Do they mostly deal with selfishness and self-gratification? The reason I went on the page was because I was thinking about how meaningful all of Paul’s songs are in the medley. I mean, just to run through Paul’s bits:
Golden Slumbers - the theme of this is that you can never go home, yes? Never return to how things used to be.
Carry That Weight - I’ll assume Everett understands that Paul wasn’t literally talking about a pillow, but I’m not sure it really relates to selfishness. Isn’t ‘holding back the pillow’ about the whole reluctant virgin, Paul not being willing to metaphorically get into bed with Klein thing? And the song in general is about how difficult everything was at that time and trying to hold things together. Unless Everett is thinking Paul was being selfish in not going with Klein (Everett’s book was in 1999 so I assume most of the relevant info about that was out there at this time).
The End - bit of a stretch that he chose to focus on “Are you going to be in my dreams tonight” and relate that to the selfish/self-gratification theme (somehow?). I haven’t quoted this bit but on the page Everett also takes the final phrase “and in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make” and splits it into the selfish (love you take) and generous (love you make). I don’t like this take but can’t really articulate why, other than the fact that that I love this line and I love that in a sense it’s the phrase they ended their career with and I don’t think the idea that you get what you give = selfish.
[He’s talking lyrics so I won’t bang on about how The End (i.e. THE END) included one of Ringo’s only ever drum solos, and Paul, George and John all doing guitar solos, harking back to their Japage 3 days, and a final classic Beatles harmony *don’t cry don't cry don’t cry*].
Her Majesty - this is just one small moment in Paul’s lifelong crush on the queen
She came in through the bathroom window - to be fair this song is kind of incomprehensible to me. I had actually thought it was something to do with the fact he and Mike used to have to climb up the drainpipe and through the bathroom window at Forthlin Road when his dad locked them out for getting home too late. The silver spoon thing I thought was about Jane or Linda (posh). Apparently it’s about a fan who broke into his house though, which makes sense for the first few lines. Still don’t see how it fits Everett’s theme though.
You never give me your money - this one is a medley in itself and yes, some of it’s about money and Klein. I suppose whether Paul's decisions about Klein were selfish depends on your view of that period (I don’t), but I also don’t think self-interest is the focus of the song. Plus it’s not the only bit of the song - the middle part is surely about Paul and Linda and freedom. And the last part (1-2-3-4-5-6-7, all good children go to heaven) is, I think, about trying to do the right thing and the perhaps futile, childish hope that this should lead to things being ok in the end *don’t cry don't cry don’t cry*.
As a slight aside, also on the wikipedia page for the album it states for this song:
“McCartney has claimed that the band's dispute over Allen Klein and what McCartney viewed as Klein's empty promises were the inspiration for the song's lyrics.[59] However, MacDonald doubts this, given that the backing track, recorded on 6 May at Olympic Studios, predated the worst altercations between Klein and McCartney.”
I guess it could - maybe, possibly, at a stretch - be about Dick James / Northern Songs, but Klein came on the scene at the end of January and The Beatles signed with him on 8th May. This date fits almost exactly with the recording so surely strengthens the idea that the song is about Klein. That quote from Glyn Jones about Klein turning up to Olympia and trying to bully Paul into signing with him [here, from here] sounds like it would have taken place at around this time, and I don’t see why the fact that their relationship got even worse as they year went on means that it’s not about him. [Confession: I may be talking rubbish about all of this, 1969 is confusing].
I won’t go too into John’s songs, but Polythene Pam and Sun King have ?nothing? to do with the ‘selfishness’ theme.
It’s like Everett heard Mean Mr Mustard and the phrase (but not the meaning) of You Never Give Me Your Money and built a whole thesis off it because he wanted it to fit his A-chord, C-chord thoughts. He’d fit right in on the internet tbh.

For Mini-Comic Monday it’s…Copy That! #51! This issue is an 8-page, B&W info/news mini comic zine published by D. Blake Werts.
Change is in the air! Last issue Blake said changes were coming and here they are! First up is the name. Copy This! is now Copy That! Next is the size. This issue is a traditional 8-pager, and there ain’t no interview! Yep, Blake opens with his usual note to readers and then we jump right into the news and info section! Blake does mention that the interviews will continue and a younger group of creators outside the Newave and Obscuro crowd will be the focus! But, that’s not all! Also included with this issue of Copy That! are two minicomics! D. Blake Werts Presents We Said That?, an 8-page mini by Blake and Bob Vojtko, and Tom Brinkmann’s 16-page Squint #5!
In the community news and info section we’re treated to offerings from: Alan Sisson (Sizzo-Link’s Weekly Spotlight); Andy Nukes (The Andy Nukes Newsletter); Bob Vojtko (Butrum Beaver); Charles Brubaker (Ask a Cat); Everett Rand (Mineshaft); George Erling (Cartoon Loonacy); Keith O’Brien (Weekly Hero); Lara (Jungian Shadow Work Applied Towards Futanari Hantai); Matt Jones (Free For A Reason); and Robert Pasternak (Acid Man Society).

Third Thursday events and exhibitions for November 19
The next Third Thursday — the monthly evening of art in Athens, Georgia — is scheduled for Thursday, November 19, 2020, from 6 to 9 p.m. All exhibitions are free and open to the public. Included this month are in-person exhibitions and online events. Free tickets or event registration are required at some venues. It is recommended that you contact a venue in advance to confirm its current status, especially in light of the potential for changing circumstances during COVID-19.
Georgia Museum of Art, University of Georgia
“Power and Piety in 17th-Century Spanish Art” — Works by premiere Spanish baroque painters such as Francisco de Zurbarán, Bartolomé Murillo, Pedro Orrente and others, on loan from Bob Jones University Museum & Gallery.
“Modernism Foretold: The Nadler Collection of Late Antique Art from Egypt”: This extraordinary assembly of objects dates from the 3rd to the 8th century CE. Coptic art was made by and for native Egyptians, Greeks and Romans who favored both classical pagan and Christian themes.
“The Art of Seating: 200 Years of American Design”: This exhibition, organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville and the Thomas H. and Diane DeMell Jacobsen Ph.D. Foundation, presents a survey of exceptional American chair design from the early 19th century to the present day.
“The Seated Child: Early Children’s Chairs from Georgia Collections”: This exhibition presents about two dozen children’s chairs.
“Sarah Cameron Sunde: 36.5 / A Durational Performance with the Sea” — A series of nine site-specific participatory performances and video works by the interdisciplinary artist Sarah Cameron Sunde, spanning six continents and seven years.
“Contemporary Japanese Ceramics from the Horvitz Collection” — Japanese pottery and porcelain created by three generations of master ceramic artists. Made with both ancient and modern materials and methods, their works are exceptionally diverse.
“Carl Holty: Romantic Modernist” — This exhibition of paintings and drawings reflects Holty’s personal pursuit of modern art theory, much of which focused on color as one of his essential building blocks.
“In Dialogue: Cecilia Beaux’s ‘Twilight Confidences’” — A look in detail at Cecilia Beaux’s “Twilight Confidences,” an important recent addition to the museum’s collection and the artist’s first major exercise in plein-air painting.
The museum’s days of operation have changed to Thursday – Sunday, and a free timed ticketing system is now in place to limit the number of people in the building, along with new policies for safety during COVID-19. Info at https://georgiamuseum.org/visit/.
tiny ATH gallery
Jamie Calkin’s “Athens in Silks” — Calkin’s work can be seen lining both interior and exterior walls all around Athens. He has been working with silk for the last couple of years and completed the majority of the pieces in this show over the last couple of months of the pandemic. The exhibition will be open gallery hours for Third Thursday, 6 – 9 p.m.
Safety precautions in place for tiny ATH gallery:
Please, please, please WEAR YOUR MASK (we will have gloves and sanitizer and extra masks readily available as well).
4 people will be allowed in at a time or a larger family group that has been sheltering together.

Please follow signage instructions and maintain safe 6-feet-plus distancing while waiting to enter the gallery.
Feel free to mingle (6 feet safely away from one another) on the back patio area.
If you feel unwell or have been in contact with anyone who has been sick, please stay home.
Ciné
Check with the venue for info.
Hotel Indigo, Athens
“Athens Facades” — Photography by Mike Landers. The artist took these building portraits at dark downtown and in Five Points between 2000 and 2002. His first building portrait shows what had been The Gap on Clayton Street, which left a beautifully symmetrical illuminated façade and an empty interior. Landers finds this an exercise of looking in and looking out.
ATHICA: Athens Institute for Contemporary Art
Online event, 7 p.m., “A Social Conversation with Performance” — An online musical event, free and open to all. Curated by violinist Serena Scibelli, in conversation with and featuring the performance of cellist Ismail Akbar and his conversation with student guest Olivia Duever. 1) Ride or Die, Remember?
The last time bomb, set for any moment now. You’ve known all along. Not when or why, but what’s to Come and hold the wires tightly. Red or yellow, white and lively. Grip the handle, not so shyly. We’ll either still be here or somewhere else.
A slow drip sound, the stench of burning coffee prolongs the feeling. Your beading brow, how determined you were. But now hope is Over and out, I can hear. Time is almost up for us too. I wish, oh I wish I could undo Countdown started when we first met.
But there’s fire in your eyes again. There’s light on the horizon.
Smog settling. Maybe the world didn’t end after all. Still in front of me is you. Two crossed leads, untwisted slightly. Tinned and soldered, holding tightly. Could be the last two surviving Humans, so we better try to be adults.
There’s fire in your eyes again. There’s light on the horizon. There’s light on the horizon.
I don’t want to deny you what’s yours. I belong to you.
2) Well, Kansas Ain’t What it Used to be.
We believe in all the things you don’t. We are not the problem and we won’t, We won’t take the blame. We won’t take the blame.
Lost in spin, just like my friend. Sparks start fires, but they won’t be the end Of us, but where did we begin? The tired arguments wear thin.
Bath by sink, this baby’s clean. Found the dirt, then went missing. Under the rug, somewhere between A tossed newborn and me.
We believe in all the things you don’t. We are not the problem and we won’t, We won’t take the blame. Loaded questions, doublespeak. Verbal vomit, honestly. The talking heads will tell their tales So unconvincingly.
Make my bed. Put me to sleep. Tied down feet and fading dreams Won’t keep me here. Becoming clear, We’re breaking lose, a change is near.
Left, right, left, then right again. Going nowhere, this has got to end. The money trails are lighting up. Adjust your eyes, we’ve had enough.
We believe in all the things you don’t. We are not the problem and we won’t, We won’t take the blame.
3) You’re Lucky You Didn’t Lose Your Arm
My twenties were a stressful vacation. Most expenses were deferred, costly lessons. I wish I could warn you or at least just help you plan You’re dehydrated, educated, And everyone but you gets paid.
I am hearing green, Feeling lame. That song you snuck into my ear, I wish I’d made.
I’m not insane, I am so sane. Tie me up, I’ll be ok.
I am so sane, I’m not insane. I was told I’d be ok.
It’s lonely lying in the bed you’ve made Now negotiations will fall apart. I’m not insane, I am so sane. I was told I’d be ok.
4) I Even Got This Scar to Match
Like a sore, beneath no bandage. Peel your shirt back, Where are you from?
Missed my turn, I hit a curb. Went face first, friend. It was a long walk home.
You haven’t done all you wanted to. Now you think it’s abandoned you. (It’s been a long time and you are just the same)
All my friends, they have babies. Still let someone - care for me. Six foot fences, a beautiful yard. I wake up in the evening…
You haven’t done all you wanted to. Now you think it’s abandoned you. (It’s been a long time and you are just the same)
Spinning stars, and it was a long walk home.
5) Next Time, Send a Limo
There’s a bull in the street. Stretched across, alert. Huffing heavily. Not moving. Now calm, stare is steady. I am still clenching, but what to? Just have to force my, my way through.
I don’t know what scares me more.
I get passed, clear pavement in front of me. But the sun is too bright, man. Might need to sit down. It’s like 103°. Start back in a minute. Leave me be.
I don’t know what scares me more. Excuses are the reason I never left the floor.
I knew it wouldn’t last long, it’d be sooner or later. It was all too familiar, like a thin paper airplane. You can fold as many as you want, They may never take off. You can hold as tightly to the rope, but don’t forget what you have.
6) We are Groot.
Stories unread are still being written. For now, we only have parts of it. We’ll find the twist that fits.
A barren oak tree is only resting. It struck a chord, I made a note of it. Soon she will be green.
Sometimes perseverance barely even makes a sound, underground.
7) Ice? Yeah, you could chisel some off your heart, if you could find it.
Twilight pink, we’re on the brink of fireflies. The tree line is swallowed up by night sky. We go inside. Cyclical schedules are spinning. All of us think we are winning. Blinders on, keep moving forward.
Another moment rushing by, But I’ve found plenty of sand to bury my head.
I no longer press rewind for punchlines. I’ve got the gist. It’s humorous. I know why, I’ve seen it all. Cyclical schedules are spinning. All of us think we are winning. Blinders on, keep moving forward.
Another moment rushing by, But I’ve found plenty of sand to bury my head. I am mostly occupied.
Hey, I’m not impressed. I’ve seen it all. Hey, more is less or nothing at all.
Another moment rushing by, But I’ve found plenty of sand to bury my head. I am mostly occupied Because I’ve found plenty of sand to bury my head.
8) Ok, Ok, I’ll Turn Down the Music
At the time, the risk, it did seem calculated. Armed with my ti-83, the value increased.
Through it all you knew I had the best intentions. I thought it through, I did my research, not to mention the calls.
You had heard me out, I heard what I wanted to. You know that I am ashamed. Won’t you let me be afraid for us.
My phone died, so I pulled out some pen and paper. Organized my thoughts, they didn’t add up like before.
You had heard me out, I heard what I wanted to. You know that I am ashamed. Won’t you let me be afraid for us. You forgave me once, I’ll forget it’s what I do. You know that I am ashamed. Won’t you let me be afraid for us.
9) My Superman Seat-Grab Barrel Roll? I’m Still Working on It.
What do you want from me? (I’m weathered and worn) I try. I try. I give. I’m not going to lie. (What do you want from me?)
A father’s bond is a wool sweater, trapping in the warmth. It does not judge where the heat comes from, no expectation. Without proper love and care - wet, wintered, and worn, Shrinks in to get close, but you move on.
What do you want from me? (I’m weathered and worn) I try. I try. I give. I’m not going to lie. (What do you want from me?)
10) I was raised with a different kind of loyalty, you know what I mean. I vote no. (Remember the second you go through that door, everything changes. Our old life is done.)
She slammed the door a long time ago. They’ve just been too ashamed to say it, so I will. Watch how they get all confused when the light shuts off.
I have never really believed In such a beautifully crafted order. Just stick close to me and I’ll get you inside.
That’s all right. I think I’ll take my chances.
You can wait your turn if you want. Just don’t look directly into the blue flame. They are slowly disappearing and I will not do the same.
That’s all right. I think I’ll take my chances.
Now’s our chance, Are you in or out? Got to get going, The door is closing. We’ve got to get going, right now.
No you are not the one for me. The door is closing, I won’t be going.

IT HAS BEEN about a year now since my involvement with the Dozier School For Boys began taking over my world. Kicking off the whirlwind was my need to get my hands on the school’s student ledgers. I won’t rehash the entire adventure but what I will say is that it took many frustrating nights online, several emails to the Archivist, the potential of an $600+ bill to get digital copies & finally an 8 hour round trip before I’d actually have what I wanted…Well at least a quarter of what I wanted!
HAVING ABSOLUTELY NO clue what I was looking for, I spent the next several weeks trying to organize what I had. Almost immediately number of very distinct patterns began jumping out at me. The same sentencing judges over & over again, the SAME sentence length OR lack there of & a crap load of blank spaces; Specifically under the “WHEN/HOW RELEASED” columns. One would expect that any institution handling children would be required to keep detailed & accurate records of ALL of its charges, especially when it comes to their last known whereabouts BUT that would make too much sense, now wouldn’t it…
THE INFO THAT I had gotten was only from the latest volume of the ledgers & didn’t even make a dent in the number of boys that had been shoved through the doors to be reformed. I knew there were hundreds OR even thousands of names in those books. I maybe had a few hundred at the most. By now, I had gotten used to what I like to call the “Hurry Up & Stop” method of researching. Basically I’d need specific info, finally get said info ONLY to start looking it over & promptly figure out that I needed additional material OR even worse, I’d need something entirely different altogether. In this case, I had just assumed that I’d eventually be making another trip to the Archives; That is until I ended up becoming involved with Bob Straley & taking over his website…And right there on one of the site pages was a link to the detailed, handwritten notes that WHB Mr. Andrew Puel had spent hours putting together.
Mr. Andrew Puel At The State Archives…Sitting In The EXACT Same Spot That I Did When I Was There!
      NOT IT!!
WHEN I SAW that link, I was beyond thrilled! I was finally going to have something reliable to validate what I had come up with! I had spoken with Andrew at Bob Straley’s memorial service & knew that any research he had done would be the best & most accurate info that I could possibly get. When the page loaded, it definitely did NOT show what I had been hoping for; In all actuality, it showed nothing but this:
ODDLY THE INFO was missing! I started clicking on some of the other older links on the website & sure enough, there were quite a few that led to nowhere. I don’t know why it gone OR where it went, only that it’s not there. I tried not to get to aggravated, thinking that there had to be a hard copy among the thousands of documents that I have. I spent the next several weeks going through EVERY page, folder, digital file, etc. & found nothing. Bob kept everything, so to say I was puzzled that he wouldn’t have a copy of something so important was a huge understatement. I did another look through, literally taking out every piece of paper, one by one; Still nothing.
  Well Damn….
    AN EVENING IN GAINESVILLE
ON A FRIDAY in late February, I made the 3 hour trip to Gaineville. With me was a small black bag filled with what I believed to be the most important material related to the Arthur G Dozier School for Boys. I pulled up to a beautiful home, tucked back in a quiet sub division that was surrounded by forest. Standing outside was a familiar face, Mr. Bryant Middleton. The “Whitehouse Boy” greeted me with a smile & a brief hug before inviting me inside to meet his wife. Both graciously spent several hours telling their personal story of Dozier & how the WHB’s Organization was founded. They were both lovely people & I was grateful that they had been so willing to meet with me & be as open as they were. When we finally moved into the dining room to look over the things that I had brought, I began pulling things out. I yanked a folder out that had been wedged inside of my over full bag & a stack of papers fell out. The stack was stapled together & folded in half. I picked it up to see what it was & as I unfolded it, my jaw hit the floor!
OH…MY…GOD…It was a hard copy of the list of missing boys! The same list that I had just spent weeks trying to find! The stuff inside of that bag was the stuff that I pulled out & reviewed quite frequently & there’s absolutely NO way that I would missed that thick stack of ledger pages! I slid the stack across the table, explaining to Bryant why I was a bit stunned at finding them. He thought it was strange as well. I’m not going to get into the specifics of my time with the Middletons in this post, although I will say that I’m very fortunate to have met with them. They’re great people & they continue to work toward keeping the future from repeating the past.
    WHERE COULD THEY BE?
OF COURSE THERE is minimal info on the boys on this list. What is known is that most were listed as escaped but never recovered. A lot lacked permanent homes OR guardians, so there wouldn’t have been any concerned parents wondering about the whereabouts of their lost boy. It should also be noted that the last place they were seen was the Dozier School for Boys in Marianna. That leaves so many unanswered questions; Could ALL 185 boys on that list have actually successfully escaped & moved on to a better life? Even if that did happen, would it be possible that NOT 1 single child ever be heard from again? I suppose it could be possible for some BUT for All 185? I seriously have my doubts & given the history of Dozier, I’d say that’s highly unlikely. Especially considering the significant proof of other burial sites on the school’s 1200+ acres.Whether or not they continued life after Dozier OR their lives were taken at the school, they each deserve to be recognized. I’ll let them speak for themselves….

Third Thursday events and exhibitions for October 15
The next Third Thursday — the monthly evening of art in Athens, Georgia — is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2020, from 6 to 9 p.m. All exhibitions are free and open to the public. Several of the venues are closed or in between exhibitions. It is recommended that you contact a venue in advance to confirm its current status, especially in light of the potential for changing circumstances during COVID-19.
Georgia Museum of Art, University of Georgia
“Sarah Cameron Sunde: 36.5 / A Durational Performance with the Sea” — A series of site-specific participatory performances and video works by the interdisciplinary artist Sarah Cameron Sunde, addressing climate change and slow time.
“Contemporary Japanese Ceramics from the Horvitz Collection” — This exhibition presents Japanese pottery and porcelain created by three generations of master ceramic artists. Made with both ancient and modern materials and methods, their works are exceptionally diverse and share exceptional craftsmanship and sophisticated design.
“Carl Holty: Romantic Modernist” — This exhibition of paintings and drawings reflects Holty’s personal pursuit of modern art theory, much of which focused on color as one of his essential building blocks.
“Hurricane Katrina and Its Aftermath in the Art of Rolland Golden” — As the 15th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina approaches, this exhibition presents works Rolland Golden created in its aftermath. These paintings and drawings, some of the last work Golden made, document the devastation of the storm and focus on the traumatic experiences of New Orleanians.
“Drama and Devotion in Baroque Rome” — Paintings on loan from the Museum & Gallery at Bob Jones University that show the influence of Caravaggio, including works by Rubens, Orazio Gentileschi and Simon Vouet.
“In Dialogue: Cecilia Beaux’s ‘Twilight Confidences’” — A look in detail at Cecilia Beaux’s “Twilight Confidences,” an important recent addition to the museum’s collection and the artist’s first major exercise in plein-air painting.
The museum’s days of operation have changed to Thursday through Sunday, and a free timed ticketing system is now in place to limit the number of people in the building, along with new policies for safety during COVID-19. Info at https://georgiamuseum.org/visit/.
