Very excited to see Olivia Rodrigo become Spotify's #1 streamed female album. She's got some bops and bonus! I know Taylor is seething. It really goes to show how swifts music lacks any sort of longevity. Olivia made a good album that's still doing well years later and I suspect her newest and any future works will do just as well. Swift on the other hand releases, remixes, and rereleases something "new" constantly. Fans beat a song to death to get it charting then move on when remix #3 drops and so on and so on. #1 on the charts but zero everywhere else since no one listens to half of her catalogue unless it's out of spite for someone else (usually Olivia or Beyoncé or Sabrina carpenter or every other woman out there)
Honestly I'm not really that into Olivia's music (it's okay, just not really my thing), but she seems like a nice enough person.
Genuinely I hope she gets #1 A) because she's quite talented B) because she seems to have worked hard for her success and that should be rewarded C) because it would be really fucking funny to watch Taylor throw a tantrum about it
Honestly, even when Taylor does release new music it sounds tired and old because everything sounds the same, so no wonder only her worshippers love her.

it's so funny coming to this blog and everyday there is this one anon (or multiple, dc) trying to convince everyone that sabrina is a megastar now surpassing every other artist. like, sure darling, maybe we shoud not say this based on two songs that are being pushed down everyone' throat on social media?? what about waiting to see how this success backed by the company will translate when it comes to a tour or sales or longevity? she released two summer bops and they are going viral in the summer, groundbreaking

Queer Aussie musicians releasing out, proud & loud new music

Queer Aussie musicians releasing out, proud & loud new music
Tumblr media
From country to pop 2024 is a fantastic year for Aussie musicians who continue to drop proud, new music for all to enjoy.
Sure Pride Month saw Orville Peck and Kylie collaborate, but independent Aussie artists are knocking it out of the park releasing unique, out-and-proud music celebrating their sound and identities.
Here are some of the latest highlights.
Michael Waugh – Beauty & Truth
Award-winning country music singer-songwriter Michael Waugh released his new LP since coming out publicly last year.
Beauty & Truth is an 11-song album where Waugh shares his authentic self through his music.
“The title track of the album Beauty & Truth took me a long time to write.” Waugh tells us.
“When I was working on it, I wasn’t able to complete it because I wasn’t ready to be completely honest with myself or the world.”
“I was holding on to a version of myself that I thought that I needed to be.”
“But this is just about trying to put out into the world a message of love and healing, and hope for beauty and truth. “
His latest album ranges from songs honouring the gay elders that came before him, a tribute to Patsy Cline and Tammy Wynette, and playful moments with his partner.
Check out the album here.

Adam Noviello & YES HOMO’s horny new bob ‘Recipe’
Non-binary singer-songwriter Adam Noviello graced the cover of QNews Victoria last month singing ‘No More’ with Greg Gould, Kate Dearaugo and Kween Kong.
Teasing what would it sound like if Rush and Padam Padam had a baby, they continue to heat things up recently dropping their latest single Recipe, a steamy collaboration with YES HOMO.
With a banging beat, soaring vocals, sexy food metaphors and a Pina Colada recipe before the bridge, Recipe is a scrumptious blend of all things that make great pop music.
“RECIPE is my best track yet. I’m so proud of it, and I can’t wait for it to slay every dance floor in town.” they said.
Laced with cheeky food metaphors for sex, skipping the hors d’oeuvres and jumping right to the main course, Noviello has an unapologetic approach to pop music and continues to push boundaries redefining pop.
Check out more of their music here.

Jawbreakers – The Flavour
Tasty queer musicians and drag duo Jawbreakers have released The Flavour, a glittery dance-pop track that’ll be sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.
With a tasty music video, this dynamic duo brings a delicious concoction of sugary sax, fizzy synths, and lip-smacking lyrics.
“It’s so exciting to be back releasing music after nearly a 2 year break.” Sabrina Babvyslut tells us.
“We came back with an elevated version of a quintessential jawbreaker dance track!”
“If there’s one thing we want to bring to the dance for its high energy and fun tracks and we are so excited for everyone to hear it.”
They know how to bring the energy and keep you craving more.
“We’re beyond ready to show everyone what we have been working so hard on!” Kali Fornikate said.
“With the music video, we wanted to create a fully immersive world, so you can see what was in our minds when we built the track.”
Jawbreakers bring fierce and high-energy dance music to stages around the world.
Wherever you are, give them a download.

Naavikaran – CHIQ DISCCOTHEQ
With CHIQ DISCOTHEQ, artist and queer musician Naavikaran has debuted an ode to queer joy.
This 6 track Futurist Pop adventure was produced by a small team of trans baddies in an even smaller bedroom in Naarm.
“I wanted to make a project where people can listen to it and realize that they deserve laughter.”
“We deserve pleasure and to experience life like anyone else. We deserve a full human life.” Naavikaran told us.
A unique listening experience, the tracks are titled Tranny Girlfriend, Pedestal, and Zai Ki Naka.
This diverse, powerful, and uplifting EP deserves your attention.
Have a listen here.

Thriving in Perpetual Darkness
The debut EP from Chinese Cambodian artist JXCKY, Thriving in Perpetual Darkness was written in just three months.
“It’s taken me years to get to a point where I could sit down and produce a body of work that I’d be proud of and fully resonated with.” JXCKY said.
“I was once told that I’m a person that ‘thrives in perpetual darkness’ and I cast shadows on anything that offers me even a glimmer of light. I needed to know if that was true.”
“This project is statement after statement drenched in heartache, vengeance, insecurity, self-doubt, danger and revelations.
The 7 track EP is dark pop magic and well worth checking out.
youtube
TWINK tops with remixes
Levelling up his track TWINK, last month Tom Nethersole dropped not one, but two hot remixes ahead of his album later this month.
“TWINK is one of my favourite songs I’ve put out.” Tom told us, “I love that people keep discovering and sharing it.”
“I released these two remixes because after this I’m going to be in a chill, emotional kind of era.”
“I wanted people to have something more energetic and fun to listen to before then.”
“I also wanted to highlight other naarm-based artists in these remixes. They’re just fun. It’s a new take on a song I already love.”
These bangers were mixed DJs and music producers JXN Miles and Nate Sutton.

I’m like you in I have the attitude of ‘I don’t like this, but people should have their own tastes and I don’t think less of you for liking something I find annoying’ but ong everything you said about Sabrina is sooo how I feel and I haven’t felt so ‘please leave me aloooone’ since like Justin Bieber debuted (he has some bops in recent years, but the Bieber fever was so not where I was at and it was just insufferable. And the last few days I have been listening to classical music and movie scores and SHE STILL CAME UP NEXT on auto play on Spotify!! I was trying to decompress with emotive but non stimulating music and then BOOM! And I really thought ‘omg this is how people who were indifferent to Taylor turned into haters during 1989 era and now’ lmao 😂 like ok, I GET IT HATERS! I UNDERSTAND! (Though kinda don’t understand the TTPD hate because she does no promo, but for 1989 she was on every radio and tv show)
I skipped Sabrina when she opened for Taylor in aus (she gave me a headache when I tried to listen to her so I could enjoy her set) but I did see her play a cover of ONJ hopelessly devoted to you though from where I was standing in the merch line - it was PHENOMENAL! Also a great choice for Australia because it’s in our DNA to know the words lol.
But idk it made me think about how you can enjoy a voice or a song as a track but then really hate the combination of that voice with that track. I think if she releases covers of (or songs with a similar style to) higher love, I wanna dance with somebody who loves me, true colours, girls just want to have fun, etc - those simple tracks and simple but upbeat or inspiring lyrics - I’d be such a fan! Happy she’s assumably doing what she wants and other people enjoy it though, just not for me 🤷‍♀️
exactly!!! She’s got a GREAT voice but eh lol. Not for me. And yes I’d mind her less if she wasn’t being shoved on me. I agree with your assessment re Bieber as well and tbf I mostly disliked Taylor during 1989 because I really dislike that album and now you say it maybe it’s also that she was being shoved on me and I was like “but this is just not good???? It’s bad????? She’s hot but her recent music sucks ass?????????” (Except blank space which I liked and which has never done a thing wrong ever in its whole life and also that MV is one of the sexiest things I’ve seen ever with my eyeballs).

10 NEW SONGS - 4/14/24
It’s become clear that when you’re not completely ignoring your whole ass job, writing a whole ass article becomes much more difficult - who knew! Still aiming to get these out every week, just might not be a Friday / same day situation. Alas.
1. Hold Up - Sasha Keable
Sasha Keable has quietly dropped some gems in the past 4 to 5 years (I was shocked to discover that she’s the featured artist on Disclosure’s “Voices”, a song I've adored for years), but this single might be her best release to date. She confidently sings here over jazzy, electronic keyboard chords, giving us some modern … dare I say … Amy Winehouse vibes? At the very least, she sounds more like Amy than whatever the fuck is happening with this Back to Black movie.
2. Illusion - Dua Lipa
This sounds like early Dua, and I mean that in the best way possible. She’s been getting a weird amount of hate in the pop world - I think it’s hard to follow an album as incredible as Future Nostalgia, but none of these songs are bad at all. Leave her be!
3. The Kill - Maggie Rogers
A clear highlight from a really strong album in Don’t Forget Me, I fuckin’ love this. Her harmonies here are top notch, and the upbeat country / folk vibe she has going works so well with her voice and songwriting. This song is so good that I actually looked up tickets to her Milwaukee show in the middle of typing out this blurb.
4. Espresso - Sabrina Carpenter
Just a fun little girly-bop bop with bonus track vibes - I think she put this out for Coachella promo? Regardless, happy to add this to the library.
5. Nasty - Tinashe
Tinashe has quietly released some bangers since she blew up back in the day with 2 On - add this one to the list. I would go feral if I heard this drunk in a bar. I will go feral when I pay way too much to hear it at a bar via TouchTunes.
6. Player Two - Jordan Ward
Jordan Ward doesn’t miss and this is catchy as hell. Looks like it’s going to be featured in a movie I’ve never heard of based on the title - interesting. It kind of sounds like a cross between disco, yacht rock, and R&B.
7. Ash Roth! - Asher Roth
I was a MASSIVE Asher Roth fan back in the day, so I was thrilled to see that he dropped a new album this weekend. This was a clear highlight for me, as Asher introspectively reflects on himself and his career over a laid back beat, reminiscent of his Pabst & Jazz era. Dude can really rap and I’ve always said that. I’m also realizing now that he’s released multiple albums since 2020 that I never listened to, so that’s a rabbit hole I will absolutely be going down in the near future. At one point, a video existed on the internet of Asher Roth singing "Just Friends" by Musiq Soulchild live on stage, and while I can no longer locate this video, seeing that told me everything I needed to know about Asher Roth. I'll bet you had no idea I had this much to say about Asher Roth. I can't even explain it, I surprise myself too.
8. TWUG (That’s What U Get) - Jean Deaux
A great R&B beat and a solid vocal performance from Jean Deaux. I always find myself wanting more from her projects when I listen through, but she’s released great individual songs over the years.
9. magic - strongboi
Knew literally nothing about them before writing this but have since discovered that strongboi = Alice Phoebe Lou + a producer / collaborator? Alice Phoebe Lou fucking rocks, as does this song! Slayyy, niche indie queen. This sounds like a breezy summer day and I'm loving every second of it.
10. How? - Dhruv
Another artist I know very little about, but my god, Dhruv has a beautiful voice. I could listen to this man sing all day.

it’s the way everyone on tiktok thinks they’re so superior for hating on sabrina... y’all are so ugly
mini rant bc im just ugh fucking annoyed, if ur “team olivia” miss me with that shit and go on ur merry way. i dont wanna fucking hear it. on to the rant:
the new trend on tiktok is now hating on sabrina carpenter and honestly it’s fucking disgusting. let’s be clear i have literally been stanning olivia and her music since she was cast in hsmtmts well over a year ago. i have every one of her unreleased songs saved on insta. i was bopping to dl way before it was released. and where were y’all??? oh right, nowhere!!! you didnt even know she existed until 2 fucking weeks ago but now uve decided she’s uwu “a literal child” that needs to protected. like??? the girl just had a massive hit and got a whole new fanbase, she’s fine! this isnt about olivia, this is about y’all needing to show ur morally superior touting ur fakeass bs feminism by hating and bashing on another young female artist who by the fucking way has been in this business releasing banger after banger and getting paid dust for it for like 8 years. everytime i see another person jumping on this “tea” and making a video where they repeat the same assinine shit that the last hundred tiktoks they just saw said (“blonde girl... diss track... homewrecker... adult vs a minor”) u just further prove to me and anyone with an ounce of critical thinking skills that ur a sheep who rides hate trains bc u cant think for urself and it makes u feel superior. frankly, u sound stupid and u look ugly.

More Albums I’m Excited For in 2019
This list is more for me lmao, just so I have all the dates in one place. But so many artists that I love are releasing new music, it’s almost overwhelming. So here’s the list:
Tumblr media
Keepsake by Hatchie (June 21st): No shit, the album from my artist of the month is on this list. I’ve been hooked on Hatchie’s lovestruck brand of blissful dream pop for a while now, and the thought of having a new album from her makes me giddy with excitement. All of the singles off this album have been great, so be sure to catch up on them!
Tumblr media
III by BANKS (July 12th): While I haven’t been super crazy about “Gimme” and “Look What You’re Doing To Me” as singles, I’m still pumped for a new project from BANKS, an artist that helped jump-start my love from indie pop with her first two albums. The more distorted, electronic-driven sound of those singles lead me to believe that this project will feature a different kind of sound from her, which I’m always open to.
Tumblr media
Singular: Act II by Sabrina Carpenter (July 19th): I guess that this is the year of “act two” albums, with this and the AURORA release from earlier this month. While none of the singles so far have hit me as hard as songs like “Sue Me,” I just have to remember that “Almost Love” was the single off of Act I and that wasn’t the best song off of that album but far. So yeah, I’m expecting bops.
Tumblr media
Fever Dream by Of Monsters & Men (July 26th): I’m not super into Of Monsters & Men, (aside from recognizing that “Little Talks” is a masterpiece and probably one of the best hit songs of the decade,) but “Alligator” was such a bombastic, energetic track that this album is now on my radar. So yeah, I’m stoked to see what this band has to offer on this new project. Maybe I’ll listen through their first two albums to prepare.
Tumblr media
IMMUNITY by Clairo (August 2nd): I really enjoy Clairo’s laid-back bedroom pop aesthetic, and her EP “diary 001″ was one of my favorites of last year. Singles like “Bubble Gum,” “Sis,” and especially “Bags” have really peaked my interest with their understated vibe.
Tumblr media
Now, Not Yet by half•alive (August 9th): These kings have delivered nothing but bop after bop. I have yet to meet a single soul that doesn’t like “still feel.,” and every other song they’re released has just as much bounce and energy. I have high hopes for this debut, I’m pumped to see what half•alive have to offer.
Tumblr media
Any Human Friend by Marika Hackman (August 9th): Marika Hackman is a recent find of mine, and boy am I behind the times, because she’s been putting out albums for years. Her style of easygoing indie is really enjoyable to me, I even put on her Christmas album by accident one time and totally vibed with it. The singles she’s released this year have a funky rock edge to them, so I’m excited to see what she brings on this album.
Tumblr media
Charli by Charli XCX (September 13th): It’s been six years since an official studio album release from Charli XCX, (apparently Number One Angel and Pop 2 are EPs or mixtapes or whatever,) and I’m so excited. The list of possible features is wonderfully bonkers, including HAIM, Christine And The Queens, and Sky Ferreira, not to mention that Lizzo and Troye Sivan were featured on the singles. Needless to say, Charli is a queen and this album is going to reinvigorate pop music like a fresh cucumber facial. My only concern is that Charli XCX might have some issues with her back due to her having to carry the entire music industry, but we’ll see.
Other artists who are releasing projects this year that don’t have a release date yet, (at least according to Wikipedia,) include King Princess, Sky Ferreira, Tame Impala, The 1975, Dua Lipa, Grimes, Ellie Goulding, Maggie Lindemann, hopefully Rina Sawayama, and (if we are so blessed,) Lana Del Rey.
Any albums I missed? Can you guess who my artists of the month are going to be?😏 Let me know!

My favorite music things of 2018 part 3
youtube
Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour
This album is by far my favorite music thing of 2018. It manages to be nostalgic and futuristic at once (hello, vocoder(?) in Oh What A World). Her signature wordplay permeates every song (”You can have your space *PAUSE* cowboy”? *Swoon*). As a bonus, this is one of my favorite remixes of the year. It sounds like Fleetwood Mac disco and I live for it.
youtube
Tove Styrke - Sway
A perfect little synth pop album start to finish. Even though it is short and sweet at 8 songs, it packs so much. From the opener Sway (which had such a sweet video!) to the closer, a beautiful cover of Lorde’s Liability, there’s not one bad song. Seeing her in a small basement venue being surrounded by (much younger) people and hearing everyone in the audience sing along to every song is an experience that will stick with me for a long time.
youtube
LANY - Malibu Nights
As far as I am concerned, they basically haven’t released a single bad song, but this album is SO good. I wish more pop music sounded like this - glossy but confessional. It manages to sound 90s, mid 2000s, and current all at the same time. I love that even their upbeat bops are tinged with heartbreak, and the title track, a piano ballad, straight up brings me back to my emo college days. <3
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Pale Waves - My Mind Makes Noises
Goth visual + synth pop with a heavy dose of 80′s. Yes. Yes. YES.
Sabrina Carpenter - Singular Act I
The standout on this EP for me is Mona Lisa, which is only 2:18 long!!! The hook is truly wordplay that is so good it’s cringey.
Kungs & Stargate ft GOLDN - Be Right Here
Makes me wish I was watching the sunset in Hawaii.

My Top Songs of The First Half of 2019
⚠️Long Post⚠️
⚠️The Songs I’m writing about we’re more than likely not in the top 40 on the music charts (some might have)⚠️
1. Jax Jones & Years & Years: Play
A lot of these songs I fell in love with on the first listen. This song was one of them. It’s very generic pop with a tropical house beat that’s, for me, very hypnotizing. The song talks about someone falling in love with someone else over song that their dancing to. It’s very, love at first sight. But it works. And the cartoon that goes with this song is so cute!
2. Charity: Millenials
Even though this song was released in October of 2018, I first heard this song in January of this year (thanks Spotify). This song struck a chord with me, with it being so relatable. The songwriter talks all about the struggles millennials are going through and basically telling us we are not alone. All of this over a R&B/ Gospel beat that’s the glue of the whole song. I won’t tell my whole story of what I’m dealing with right now, but this song is basically tells about 70% of my story.
3. Judy Garland: Come Rain Or Come Shine
This song is one of many songs that was released before 2006 that I have’nt heard about until this year. I love it when little gems like this song is revealed to me an any way. This song was revealed to me via RuPauls Drag Race All Stars Season 4 the makeover challenge. The whole episode was Judy Garland themed. I thought I was cultured until I saw that episode and I was like, “I know nothing about Judy Garland.” This song is just one of many thing I’m learning in the way to being the ultimate scholar in LGBTQIA+ history. This song is very quiet in the beginning but the build-up is to die for! It’s like marriage vows, “I’m gonna love you come rain or come shine.” The song says. It’s basically someone’s marriage vows. The trumpets bellowing in the background is the cherry on top and the orchestra itself, is everything. If you know what I’m talking about, thank you Naomi Smalls for introducing this song and immortalizing this song for me and millennials everywhere who just found out about the song when you did an epic lip-sync performance to this amazing song.
4. John Legend: Preach
This song is truly EVERYTHING. Over a slow-tempo pop ballad instrumental, the lyrics tell a story. He talks about, he can’t just preach. Preaching is not enough, there has to be more he can do, to help the problems that this country is facing. With so many shootings happening across the US, there has to be more we can do. I love this song so much. The meaning is so heartfelt and genuine and John Legend just comes through shining and being motivational. I highly suggest this song if you are looking for new songs to listen to. It’s universal, it’s for everyone.
5. Jonas Brothers: Sucker
This song is catchy. It’s everything I love about the Jonas brothers and their recent release of music after their hiatus. It’s a perfect mix of DNCE (Joe Jonas and friends) and Nick Jonas’s style of music. It’s very Alternative rock and generic pop fused together. The lyrics talk about their wives (all of the Jonas brothers are married), and basically being so in love with them that their own personal rules, they break them, for them, because they’re so in love. It also helps that my foot can’t stop moving when I hear this song 😅
6. Kehlani: Buttlerfly
This song is soft and inspiring at the same time. Over a soft R&B/Soul vocals and beat that don’t come in until the second chorus, the lyrics talk speak about a metaphor. Comparing the butterfly, to the feeling you feel your stomach when you’re in love with someone, to finally expressing that love to that special someone. It doesn’t help that the outer of the song is exposing how Kehlani understands this feeling when it comes to virgos and how they process this. It’s chill, slow and the vibe is top notch.
7. Toni Braxton: You Mean The World To Me
This song was released in 1993 but I first heard this song this year as well. I was curious one day, because I’m a big fan of Toni Braxton, I just pressed shuffle on all of her music one day and this song started playing. I just started smiling from the groove and her voice that seemed to float over the instrumental. And the lyrics are EVERYTHING! To avoid being redundant and rambling on about what this song does to me, let’s just say is just wedding vows being recited in the best way possible with Toni Braxton singing.
8. Dash Berlin & Jonathan Mendelsohn: Locked Out of Heaven
This EDM song was definitely made for the club. And it’s music to my ears! The fact that is a Bruno Mars cover that’s mixed in with a whole beat symphony basically is everything. The beat mixes in tropical house & dubstep so well. Dash Berlin did a great job with this one.
9. Beyoncé: Sorry - Homecoming Live
This song is in the list because of 2 reasons:
1. Beyoncé released her 2 performances she did at Coachella as a fabulous documentary this year and she released lemonade on Spotify this year FINALLY.
2. Beyoncé did a mashup of this song with “Me, Myself, and I” at Coachella which she released on her 1st solo album “Dangerously in Love”.
I love this version even more because the marching band being the bulk of the beat in the back is genius, having a skit in the middle is great little break if you want a laugh and some motivation all at the same time. I don’t have to summarize the song for y’all, but for the 10% of people who don’t know this song: The song describes a lady catching her partner cheating, and the lady herself moving on with no regrets. It’s the perfect f**k you song is you in your feeling about your significant other.
10. T. Murray & Dr. Maya Angelou: 1:19 AM
This song is pure poetry. PURE POETRY. The groovy R&B poetry slam beat in the background is such a vibe against the poetic voice that is T. Murray. This song is very inspiring. The writer talks of her soul flourishing after a break up. And then asking for everyone else to spread love and not hate. It’s so powerful and groovy and the epitome of soul.
11. Leikeli47: Post That
“Hit that pose, take that flick, check your angle, post that s**t.” Instagram models everywhere, this is the song for you! That line is everything, this song is everything. I swear I get my life every single time this song comes on. By the way, be prepared to “Naomi Campbell walk” down the hallway my fellow gays when this comes on 🥰
12. Todrick Hall: Glitter
This song rang in my soul when that chorus came in. This song has a disco remnant in it that just has me lost in time. The lyrics have a metaphor in it comparing glitter to love and basically he wants all the love from that special person. Just like glitter, he wants it all. When this song was released it was February or March of this year when it was released, but I didn’t hear it until pride month when Todrick released a whole ep: Haus Party Pt. 1. The whole album is a bop, but this and 2 other songs stuck out and I can’t enough of them. This song is definitely timeless, to me at least I don’t know about y’all. Y’all have to listen to it to determine your decision of course.
13. Todrick Hall: Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels
Todrick has placed this song in the LGBTQIA+ hall of fame as the LGBTQIA+ anthem of the year basically. This song oozes with fierceness with that house beat and the lyrics are everything, “I don’t dance ,I work, I don’t play, I slay”, is just a taste of the lyrics. Todrick also wanted to make a song where if you couldn’t to the dancfloor fast enough for the first 2 minutes of the song the last minute will definitely have you on the dance floor. He wanted to make a “Get Me Bodied” replica if you will, and he succeeded and then slayed us all. YAS.
14. Todrick Hall: I Like Boys
This is me, this is all me. I already came out, im not coming out again, but if I ever did, I would just play this song, because it’s basically describing me and what I like ☺️ It doesn’t help that beat is infectious and works so well with the lyrics.
15. Diana Ross: Swept Away
I was swept away, if you will, when I heard this song fully for the first time. I heard part of it on “Pose” on FX. During the first season of the show, which highlights the underground ballroom scene in 1980s New York, 2 groups were doing a dance battle and this song was playing in the background. I didn’t notice it that much the first time I watched that scene, but the second time I was enthralled by it. I “shazamed” the song and it was love ever since then. Ms. Diana Ross slayed with this song and the scene in “Pose” immortalized the song for me as well. The song has this infectious 80s Pop beat in the back and Ms. Ross’s voice just floats over the beat. It’s entrancing, really.
16. Chloe x Halle: who knew (from Grown-ish)
This song is so smoooooth. Chloe and Halle’s voices just floats in this song so well! When I first heard this song I was in a trance listening to this song, just swaying back and forth. Ugh! It’s so good! The beat is a mix of R&B/Soul and African drums, but slow. The lyrics talk about a girl unknowingly falling in love with another person. It talks of fate bringing the 2 people together.
17. Sabrina Carpenter: In My Bed
This song got me by its beat in the chorus, and then the lyrics got me as well. The beat is a good mellow pop beat to start and then it picks up but mellows out even more during the chorus. It’s so chill but so powerful and relatable as well. The lyrics talks of a situation that gets stuck in your head and when you wake up your still thinking about it and your blowing it out of proportion at the same time. It could be a positive or a negative situation, either way she’s still still blowing it up to a size that it’s not meant be. It’s so relatable because I do that so many times and I’m sure a lot of other people do too.
18. Lebo M.: He Lives In You
To be honest I have heard this song before, but this is the first time I’ve heard it in the Zulu language. This song is absolutely gorgeous, powerful, chilling, and goosebump-making. The fact that Lebo M. decided to remake this song in Zulu, is amazing in so many ways. I want to thank Lebo for remaking this in a native African language, and for having The Lion King full of pan-African languages and references. It’s so powerful that Lebo decided to bring this song to life again and make even more inspiring in 2019. This song I recommended that everyone listen to.
19. Jade Novah: Show Out
I didn’t even know this song existed and I’ve been listening to Jade Novah for 3 years now including obsessing over her debut album last year. This is song is so underrated, and I use that word very loosely. This one is truly underrated. It’s melody and core of the song is a circus-inspired string of notes and over that is a hip-hop that’s infused to perfection over that. The lyrics are no-less than perfection. It’s inspiring using the circus to say show us what you got that’s so awesome. It’s telling you to show out. To show the world what is so special about you, what makes you different. I’m still obsessing over this song. And probably will forever obsess over this song.
20. Beyoncé: BIGGER
The fact that Beyoncé released a lion king inspired album and put a bunch of voice-overs from The Lion King itself in between songs to introduce the next song is absolute perfection. And she has African influences all over this album. Furthermore, this song is no-less than perfection and African inspired. The intro that came before is perfect for the introduction of this song, and this is the first song on the album. And it’s the perfect 1st song on an album like this. It’s powerful, chilling and, inspirational. The beat first and foremost, has African drums in it, which is appropriate. Over the drums is Beyoncé vocalizing in the background and a orchestra that melds so beautifully together to create this masterpiece. “Life is your birthright, they hid that in the fine print. Take the pen and rewrite it.” EVERYTHING. The lyrics seem personal to Beyoncé but also relatable to our lives as well. I almost cried listening to this song for the first time. This song could save a few lives. I’m so serious, this song could save lives. “You are a part of something way bigger.” And we are. Our lives, our problems are nothing compared to what’s happening around us, and our world. Look past, from what you see in the mirror. Look outside up in the sky, the universe, that’s you, the Stars, that’s you too. That’s us, all of us. We are all meant to do big things. Step outside of your little box and thing bigger. You might be surprised what you find out.
Even though some of these song I said already I recommend you listen to, all of these songs are worthy of at least one listen. Some of these a couple of listens. Well that was my top 20 songs of the first half of 2019. There’s so many songs I was unable to just strip it down to 20 songs of the whole year. Plus 40 songs at one time, is way too long. So, enjoy, and remember to always:
Eat
Slay
Live
Love
Laugh
&
Repeat.

Music Monday (5-6-19)
The first Music Monday of May! We’ve got a bunch of new music to talk about. So let’s talk about a bunch of new music, I guess?
New Releases
Exhale by Sabrina Carpenter: I’ve been waiting for this single after Sabrina performed it as the encore at her concert. It’s a bit of a different direction for her recent material, being a quieter ballad accented with simple strings and guitar. The lyrics are also more personal, focusing on Carpenter’s struggles with anxiety. After hearing this, I’m excited to see how Singular, Act 2 pans out.
Win Win by Diplo ft. Tove Lo: I’ve been so starved for Tove Lo content that I had to include this song on the list. But that doesn’t mean that this song doesn’t have other merits. Diplo’s production is funky fresh on this track, including lots of thumping basses and glossy synths for a classic party-jam sound. I can see this being a big bop this summer.
Dress Up by The Regrettes: So in other news The Regrettes continue to kick ass, I’m sure all of you are very surprised. This single is charged with rock energy, tons of attitude, and a sick, sick guitar line. We’ve got a total banger here, folks.
Married in a Gold Rush by Vampire Weekend ft. Danielle Haim: Every time I listen to Vampire Weekend, this deeply nostalgic feeling stirs inside me and I don’t know why. It’s not like I’ve been listening to them since I was little or anything, I’m not even that dedicated of a fan. I think it just has to do with how classic their sound feels. And this song, combining their indie-pop roots with some folk elements, quirky details, and Danielle Haim’s 70s-steeped aesthetic makes for a really interesting listen.
Alligator by Of Monsters and Men: It’s been a while since Little Talks, and I saw this song in Spotify’s New Music Friday, decided to click, and holy hell, I think I’ve been really sleeping on Of Monsters and Men. This song managed to simultaneously remind me of Florence + The Machine, Dream Wife, and Alice Merton all at the same time. Give this track a listen if you enjoy any of those artists, it kicks a lot of ass, with grinding guitars, ethereal feel, and a powerful vocal delivery.
I Lost a Friend by FINNEAS: It’s time for this man to get the recognition he deserves. This song is painfully earnest not only in its lyrical content, (it’s so sharply written,) but also in its vocal delivery. The production is amazing too in how it utilizes subtlety. The main line of the song is constant, but elements are added in as the song goes on, including breathy flutes, heavier bass and drums, and vocal distortion. 10/10 sad and good as hell.
Some Place Else by MorMor: I am so hecking happy that I stumbled across MorMor in a magazine article, because I fear that if I never had I never would have known about the wonderful music he makes. He’s gearing up to be one of my favorite personal indie-pop discoveries of the year. For this song, MorMor’s wistful delivery and tone is backed up by a solid drum and bass line, which keeps the airiness of this song grounded to Earth. Beware, if you listen you may feel obligated to float up into the clouds and bask in the sunshine.
Other Favorites
Apple Cider by beabadoobee: This could be technically counted as a new release I guess because the Loveworm EP only dropped a handful of weeks ago, but I’m a mess and forgot to cover it when it first dropped so now let’s talk about this song already. This song sees beabadoobee, who usually gravitates towards guitar-driven acoustic tracks, veering in an indie-rock direction, which I am totally here for. The more intense instrumental matches beabadoobee’s sweeter vocal delivery and lyrics perfectly.
Plateau by R E L: I was surfing through playlists for inspiration while putting together my recent indie-pop playlist I WONDER and as soon as I heard the first measure of this song I knew I would love it. This atmosphere of this song is so breezy and light, it makes me want to kick back and hang out with friends while drinking watermelon juice.
Water Fountain by Alec Benjamin: Another song from the I WONDER playlist here, (I’m really proud of that playlist btw, it’s got a lot of good songs on it.) I’d heard of Alec Benjamin in passing, but when I saw he had 16 million listeners on Spotify I figured I had to be missing out on something because holy shit, that’s a lot of listeners for a guy with only one album. This song is super sweet, charmingly youthful, and the reverb and layering on the vocals give it this dreamy quality that makes it feel otherworldly.
Check out last week’s Music Monday or my personal Spotify playlist for more new releases and other great songs.

Music Monday (3/11/19)
New Releases
Hit Your Heart by Dagny ft. Steve Aoki: Dagny must have had this song in the vault for a while, because she performed it live when I saw her in concert last April. I’ve been starved for new Dagny releases as of late, so I’m here for whatever she releases. Dagny has lots of personality on the vocals as always, I’m a fan of the horns in the instrumental, and this song is a bop.
The King by Conan Gray: More music from Conan Gray is always a good thing. This song maintains his lush, running-through-the-suburbs-at-sunset aesthetic that I always love from his music. All these new singles are giving me hope for another EP, or maybe and album? We can wish.
So Am I by Ava Max: This song is literally Sweet But Psycho 2.0 but Ava Max is so good at delivering a hook that it doesn’t really matter. Lyrics have never been her strong suit, but the melody on this is so catchy, it will get stuck in your head so fast. I’m excited to see what Ava Max has to offer in the future, as she has a lot of room for growth as an artist. I feel like she might be able to break into the popular music scene, it would be great to have a new voice in the mix.
Business Dinners by Sigrid: Speaking of refreshing voices in pop music, Sucker Punch is finally here and I’m so happy! Definitely give the album a listen. This song stood on immediately from the non-singles, especially because of its funky production choices. Some of the effects sprinkled in here remind me of Superorganism, but then there are also backup choruses and maybe a pan flute? Whatever, it works. Alongside that, we also have these really calming sections where Sigrid just sings her heart out, and the lyrics are all about staying true to oneself in a stressful situation.
We’re doing the rest of these rapid fire style. 3... 2... 1...
CHVRCHES released Here With Me with Marshmello and Marshmello somehow didn’t manage to fully sap Lauren Mayberry of all her personality. It’s not up to the standard of CHVRCHES’s usual material, but if it will give them a bump into the popular music scene, so be it.
Pushing 20 by Sabrina Carpenter has a good vocal delivery but sounds a bit more mainstream hip-hop influenced, like the latest Ariana Grande album. The melody on the chorus is really great, though.
New single from flor with slow motion! If you like flor you’ll like this, it’s pretty similar to their normal vibe, upbeat indie-pop and all that.
Zolita continues into her new moody, broody, dark and deliciously witchy era with Black Magic.
House of Glass from Cage The Elephant is a banger and I want it to be in the soundtrack to an action movie.
Call Me Loop dropped a new EP called Drama.
I’ve put the new Stella Donnelly album Beware of the Dogs on my to-listen-to list. The song Die is a nice little slice of indie rock.
Other Favorites
Follows by Basstracks ft. Grace: How did a new song with Grace get released and I didn’t know about it? Think of this as a belated New Release contender. Grace’s vocals are awesome, (her voice is just fantastic, smooth with the right amount of power and rasp,) and the production ranges from bombastic to funky. Check this one out.
Holy Water by Tanners: I mentioned Tanners in my artists to check out in 2019 post, and this is one of my favorites from her. I’ve had this song on repeat for weeks, it’s so addictive and catchy. Matching swoony synths, block percussion, and an effervescent vocal delivery, every part of this song comes together to be your new obsession. It’s like a neon daydream put to music. 11/10 recommend.
