🎶 HD Wireless 2023 - Sitp Recs

After a short hiatus I come bearing Wireless gifts! I was hoping to get started today but a power outage gave me some free hours (and a charged phone) on Thursday night so here we are. The fest has been posting for the past two weeks and these are my favorites so far. I was thinking I might just update this list as I go on through the second half (instead of creating a new one) so pls expect a few reblogs. ive beaten gen 3 games before but this one is different. this is my childhood sapphire version that i lost all the way back in 2005. i was completely devastated when i lost this uniquely "marked" cartridge. to this day i still remember the very last place i saw it before i lost it.

what do i mean by "uniquely marked"?

one afternoon when i was sleeping over at my friend's house, i reached the seafloor cavern for the first time and couldnt figure out this part.

i got so immensely frustrated with it that i tossed the gameboy at my friend's chimney, the cartridge went flying out of the gameboy, and while everything still worked fine, it cracked the cartridge. this made it unmistakably mine if i ever encountered it again, though.

WHICH OF COURSE I DID. that picture up there is a cropped version of a big photo of cartridge games my cousin ended up discovering in his mom's storage. when i told him the story above, he was shocked and arranged for the cart to be sent to me. by this time, i was living in texas, he was in reno, and his mom's storage was in vegas.

in 2016, over ten years after i lost my sapphire version, my dad was vising his sister at a family gathering, and this was our chance. my cousin handed the cart off to my dad so he could bring it back to me. i knew by now there was no way my original data would still be there. that was fine with me. i just wanted my original cart back. in fact, in 2012, i tried to re-buy a different sapphire cart, but ended up sending it back to the seller because it was counterfeit. it was a sign, lol

when i got my sapphire version back, it was pokémon day 2016. pokémon's big 20th. and i had my sapphire version back. to this day it still feels like a fever dream.

of course, with starting gen 3 from the beginning again, this meant i had one important thing to do all over again. see, sapphire is the game where i found my first shiny. my first encounter on route 114 was a shiny swablu, that i ended up naming after the animal crossing character goldie. my first ever shiny.

i wasn't going to just accept that i no longer have my first shiny, so as soon as i reached that route, i prepared my materials: the white flute from the glass workshop. an illuminate starmie at level 17. lots of repels and premier balls. a swalot with yawn. and was prepared to camp on that route for weeks until i encountered my first shiny again.

in under two hours. first premier ball. it actually felt like goldie found me and came back home.

I have spent the last two days working on this Very Stubborn Street Artist Sirius/Bookshop Owner Remus who just wants no graffiti in his shop's walls for god's sake, and I'm having so much fun I decided to share a little snippet of it

It's a short story, will probably finish and post everything by next week.

Adrenaline spikes. He freezes, the spray can still in his hand, his gaze darting between the wall and the illuminated window and back to the wall again.

It’s peaceful, working alone, and he gets lost in the music, the smell of paint, and the cool feel of the metal canister in his hand when, suddenly, it happens again – the same light in the flat above the bookshop turns on.

Shit, he forgot it again. The most important part. 

He throws the spray paint can into the bag and zips it up quickly. His fingers fumble for the black permanent marker in the outside pocket, and he drops to his knees, leaning close to the ground to scribble "Regulus & Sirius 1996" in that same old spot, then "2005" just beside it.

He's just finishing the "05" when he hears the door click open. His heart skips a beat as he scrambles to his feet, cursing under his breath, but before he can move, he's blinded by the harsh beam of a torch.

Oh, fuck. Caught red-handed.

“Back for another guilt trip?” a voice says, firm and collected. For a moment, Sirius can’t see who’s speaking against the glare of the torchlight, but then the light clicks off.

All the air leaves Sirius’s lungs at once as he takes in the vision before him. James’s description of the bookshop owner didn’t do the man any justice. Yes, he’s tall. Yes, he’s lanky. Maybe he dresses like a retired professor – Sirius wouldn’t know, given that he’s standing there in nothing but boxers and socks. But ‘oddball’? Not a chance. He’s utterly and completely gorgeous.

His hair is dark blonde, a bit curly and tousled as if he just got out of bed – which he probably did – and it looks so soft that for a moment, all Sirius can think about is how it would feel to run his hands through it. His skin has a warm tan, his eyes are kind and brown, and his limbs are long and lean. His nose is slightly long, but it fits his face in a way that’s almost unfairly perfect. Taller than Sirius – which isn’t common – he stands there, in his boxers, a faint smirk playing on his lips as he scans Sirius from head to toe. Undeniably sexy, everything Sirius has never known he wanted.

Sirius raises his hand to his face, double-checking that the cotton shirt is still covering him – thankfully, it is. A mischievous grin spreads across his face, though the man can’t see it.

“What can I say, Mr. Wolf? You always leave me wanting more,” he winks at the man, his voice muffled by the shirt, but still understandable.  With a swift motion, he slings the bag strap over his shoulder, hops onto his skateboard, and pushes off, riding away before the man can think of calling the police.

Down on the floor, Cas is still on his hands and knees, but he glares at Ruby, his chin tipped up in defiance even now. Dean wants to go to him and let him know he’s not alone in this, but he’s terrified that if he makes a single move, this will all be over. Ruby will get her hands on him, and then they’ll all be lost. When he was growing up, Dean sometimes heard people say that it’s darkest before the dawn. Even as a kid, he knew it was meant to be a metaphor — something to help you hang on to hope even when everything seems hopeless. As he looks at Cas’ furious, pale, miserable face and Ruby’s triumphant leer, Dean realizes those people were wrong. There’s no dawn here, not for them. Only darkness. Except, at that very moment, something odd happens. There’s a line of windows that looks out from the taxidermy room onto the yard. They covered those up, just like all the others in the house, but there must be some gaps, because out of nowhere, blinding light floods past the edges of the plywood and into the room. Ruby swivels to face it. “What the fuck?” It can’t be daylight, not yet. It's only been dark for an hour. So what…? The roar and whine of an engine sounds in the yard, followed by the squeal of tires on gravel. There’s a car outside the house, and it’s speeding straight toward them. Next to Dean, Sam leaps into action. Before Dean can throw out an arm to stop him, he’s swept into the taxidermy room, throwing himself onto Cas and dragging him back into the kitchen.

Seconds later, the world explodes. Dean keeps his eyes on the windows just long enough to see the entire wall collapse inward as something massive breaks through it and into the house. He throws himself flat onto the floor, protecting his head with his hands while shards of wood and glass fly everywhere. The pandemonium only lasts seconds, but Dean waits another moment before he raises his head. He finds Bobby’s Jeep idling in the middle of the taxidermy room, atop a heap of rubble that used to be a wall. The Jeep’s headlights pierce the air, illuminating a scene of horror: Ruby’s chest is split open, the wickedly sharp tip of a massive fence post protruding from it. The fence post has been mounted onto the Jeep’s grill by way of an elaborate system of ropes and clamps. As Dean looks on, the gleam of gold fades from Ruby’s eyes. Just like Meg and Nick before her, she cracks at the edges first. Within seconds, she’s disintegrated, until it seems as though she was never here. Bobby hops off his Jeep and surveys the scene of destruction in front of him, scratching at the stubble on his cheeks. “Well,” he says, resigned, “been meaning to fix up the place anyway.”

In the early aughts, Jonathan Safran Foer’s Everything Is Illuminated was an inescapable book, launching the young author’s career (and more than a few skeptics). Naturally, the film adaptation came along, though with the unexpected pedigree of cherished actor Liev Schreiber making his director debut. Starring Elijah Wood as a fictionalized version of Foer traveling to Ukraine to discover family truths buried by the Holocaust, the novel and film are a reflection on the lost history of shetls in Eastern Europe. But when the film arrived on the fall festival scene, underwhelming reviews 

This episode, we talk about Elijah Wood’s post-Lord of the Rings career and the other films that have come from Foer’s writing. We also discuss the film arriving in the year of Schreiber’s Tony win, distributor Warner Independent’s successful 2005, and the National Board of Review’s 2005 picks for Special Recognition for Excellence in Filmmaking.
