About Fairy Tail members being either complicit or enablers of juvia abusing Gray

You're definitely not alone, my friend! I personally am a Gralu shipper, but I don't necessarily agree just because of that.

I've said it in a post before, but I became an Anti gr///vian first and a Gralu shipper second. I totally understand people who don't like a certain ship just because they ship those individuals with other people, and I think that's a perfectly valid reason to hate a ship, as we can hate ships for mostly any reason. So, yes, being a Gralu shipper gives me another reason to not like it if Lucy were to ship gr///via because that basically just reconfirms that they don't like each other.

However, for me personally, I hate it whenever Lucy (whom I don't remember supporting gr///via very much if at all, but she definitely didn't actively oppose it to the best of my knowledge), Erza, or anyone in Fairy Tail/the FT universe supports gr///via mostly because that makes them, at best, complicit in juvia's abuse of Gray, and, at worst, enablers of this abuse.

I refuse to believe that manipulative and toxic affection was the true moral of Mashima's Fairy Tail, even if his characters actively advocate for it. I think he lost sight somewhere along the line of what it truly means to be a Fairy Tail member, and that means to be a loyal, compassionate, brave friend who always looks out for each other and love one another. juvia is none of those things, not even loyal to Gray, because what she does is a detriment to him, and she's really just loyal to herself and her "love" for him. Yet, Mashima promotes her behavior by giving her what she so desperately coveted in the end and by forcing his characters to be completely OOC and back up juvia, the slobbering, nasty, selfish pig, and not their loving, stalwart brother-in-arms and victim here, Gray.

That is despicable.

What's more, beyond how awful it is that FT people would rather back juvia than Gray, it's just bad, lazy writing. In no world would juvia be able to abuse other people and manipulate them and bully women and yet also be praised and protected and loved by those same people. Erza should have never sided with juvia over the 413 days matter or berated Gray for "not being clear enough" when he's been plenty clear. The other FT members shouldn't have ever blasted Gray for "leading juvia on". No one should even like juvia or want to be her friend because of what a b*tch she is.

Yet of course, everyone loves her for NO REASON. There are so many reasons to hate her (and honestly not one good reason to love her in my opinion), but does Mashima care? Absolutely not. juvia is his self-proclaimed self-insert's waifu, after all.

Anyway, true FT fans should be enraged that juvia lockser is one of the main people we are encouraged to be like in this show. They should be indignant that juvia has been made a poster child for this anime, when she embodies none of its values. They should refuse to accept this as healthy and desirable. They should balk at the fact that their beloved characters endorse juvia's actions and life choices, which are wholly unacceptable and unhealthy not only to herself but most importantly to others.

But lots of fans delude themselves, and the fans drive Mashima, so unfortunately, here we are, with a whole cast of characters who promote and affirm juvia, the least deserving of the Fairy Tail members.

For the record, I am not really talking about the fans who acknowledge juvia's toxicity but still like her and the ship because of a sort of suspension of disbelief. Honestly, there are many problematic or evil characters that many people like, and I usually see no problem with it if you are able to separate your fictional fantasies with reality. (Some deeply problematic things I do not excuse though). For example, I like Sukuna from JJK. Do I think he's a good person? Aaaaabsolutely not. He's a completely awful person. But still, I think he's cool and his power is sick, so I like him.

My issue lies within the area of the FT community who refuse to accept that juvia's behavior is deplorable and who attack anyone who tells them otherwise. These are the rabid fans who'd go for Mashima's throat if he dared to not make gr///via canon. I don't believe the fans who know juvia is a bad person but still ship gr///via would be so up in arms about it because this sort of self-awareness indicates maturity to me.

[Sidenote, the really aggravating and only thing that sets juvia apart from the characters who are literal villains and douches is that juvia isn't treated like a bad guy within the story. Sans some uncomfortable stares and sweat drops, she is largely treated like family, and everyone loves her. When even the canon material itself won't acknowledge a character's toxicity and awfulness to itself, of course there'll be people who don't think she's toxic. I hate that Fairy Tail lies to itself in this way. It just helps to turn the deluded fans against well-meaning Antis who speak literal objective truth, that the way juvia acts is not okay in real life.]

Announcement + reponse to shippers

First, the Naruto analysis I was planning is cancelled, and the Fishman Island analysis is put on hold until further notice. Instead, I'll be focusing solely on NaLu and LuNa projects, and the haki analysis I promised

Why? Things escalated with the NaLu/Gruvia shippers, so I had to prepare responses accordingly. Given someone was kind enough to try to make a statement about shipping, I’ll explore the matter through a claim this shipper made: the discussion of pairings brought here being "pointless"

More often than not, shippers tend to ignore context and story for the sake of hype. As surprising as it sounds, most shippers don’t really care about the weight or significance of moments. Some of them even say so

So, is having a debate about pairings pointless?

Let's look at a few examples within the fandom to find out the answer:

Nearly two years ago, Decadus, a famous user for his analyses on Fairy Tail, NaLu, and Gruvia found a shipper who made the bold claim that Gray is far more supportive to Lucy than Natsu would ever be, and their commonalities made them a superior pairing over NaLu. He presented this argument, as an “intellectual”

Back in 2018, I found a NaLu shipper who promoted the idea of Natsu and Lucy having no chemistry, and concluded the GrayLu pairing had actual chemistry while being the hottest

Some of you may be familiar with his content, most being reasons why the NaLu fandom is evil, how they’re holding Mashima hostage, or how Natsu and Lucy should never be together, instead NaLi and LoLu should happen. Or as one of his post went: they can’t be together because they can’t have an actual relationship with each other.

So, is it pointless to call out people when they twist both story and characterization to either hype or downgrade a premise?

It is through debate, we determine which premises hold up when compared to facts and evidence, and which ones go against logic and reason. Or in the case of pairings, against plot and characters

However, some people are not willing to properly defend their position. And even resort to blocking those who actively contradict their ideas. But, blocking someone and then making a point, when it’s unlikely they’ll even read your argument to respond is akin to cheating. Or as another thinker would put it...

“You don’t win a debate by supressing discussion, you win it with a better argument”

As you could appreciate in the cases I used to make my point, people like detractors, wankers, and even haters can offer you ideas to discuss, even if it is only to refute an argument. And these ideas can even lead to making content, something that can't happen if you suppress the opposition instead of proving their premises wrong

Some shippers may argue they’re not doing anything remotely similar as to those examples mentioned before. But, they may actually even try to justify their ideas and arguments as valid regardless of the author’s works, or even the context of the scenes; as they keep wanking shallow premises

And just like it happened back then, if a shipper tries to sell, for example, the idea of Lucy getting frisky with other guy while her closest companions are bleeding out in the next room, you shouldn’t be surprised if someone calls you out

So, is your argument for a better relationship based on shallow sex appeal? Commonalities with no impact? Rescue scenes that lead nowhere? Or non-existent nostalgia?

Here my statement to those NaLu/Gruvia shippers. I’m still here, and I’m not going to hide. Which is why I even unblocked the wankers and trolls I blocked in the past. 100 Year’s Quest Chapter 12 Talk

Sorry I’ve been gone so long y’all. It’s been a busy week but with Thanksgiving coming up things at college are slowing down a bit. Anyway I wanted to talk about the recent FT chapter of the 100 Year’s Quest that just came out and OMG IM FLIPPING OUT.

I’m putting a spoiler warning here if you haven’t read the newest chapter yet.

Touka is obviously being a little actress or maybe she’s actually possessed by this evil white witch every now and then and her memory of it is erased. Either way she’s guilty so Laxus needs to listen up, even tho he’s horrible at listening and more so acts.

I want to see Jellal kick ass but I also love Laxus. EITHER WAY THIS BATTLE IS GONNA BE EPIC.

Switching scenes, little cupcake Erza is being mistreated so terribly and I can’t wait for her to kick that dragon slayers girls ass and be the bad ass warrior she is.

Pride Goeth Before a Party, or We All Make Mistakes A Holiday Graylu Fic for Condacending

Gray stood at the front window of Lucy's apartment watching the snow fall, arms crossed, shoulders tense, stance closer to defensive than appropriate for a comfortable night in with a much-cherished girlfriend. He managed to keep his tone reasonably even, at least.

"I thought it was just going to be the team. Natsu, Erza, Wendy, the cats… maybe one or two others."

From her seat on the couch, Lucy studied the way Gray's muscles moved under his soft navy t-shirt and concluded that things were more serious than she'd realized. They'd done pretty well in the four months since becoming a couple: disagreements had been few, tempers had been held in check with the patience granted by new romantic love, and each of them had been carefully considerate of any known bruised spots or raw places in the other. Tonight wasn't going nearly as smoothly as usual.

"Well… I thought that since it was a New Year celebration, we should try to kind of reconnect to past friendships"—and other important relationships—"and go a bit beyond the usual"—for once. Gray had always been slightly introverted, but he'd generally had fun at guild parties, and hadn't seemed to mind hanging out and having drinks with various guild members. Lucy wondered why she hadn't noticed sooner that between missions with the team, and time alone together, neither of them had been seeing their wider circle of friends much, and—

"Look, Luce, I appreciate the sentiment, but we didn't decide to invite Lyon. Or Ultear. Not that they've accepted yet or anything, but… I dunno, I just wished you'd asked for my input first. We were doing this thing together, right? And does Erza know you've invited Jellal? Seems to me they've got a complicated kind of relationship—something that isn't exactly 'kiss under the mistletoe and it's all good now'. Again—not that anyone's accepted the invitations, but if they do then what? And I have no idea where Meredy's at, but she's had a rough time of it, and we don't know what the dynamics are between her and Jellal and Ultear. Plus, aren't they all, you know, wanted criminals?"

Hearing the sarcasm edging into his tone, Gray drew a deep breath while Lucy processed his comments. Then he turned from the window, determined to do things right. That included not shutting himself away, or using words or worse to push others—Lucy—away.

Lucy did her best to stop frowning, with mixed success. Although she knew it would probably be better to keep listening right now, she felt impelled to defend herself a little.

"I'm sorry I upset you," she said carefully. "I guess I was hoping we could bring people together a little—and I kind of had the impression that you were getting along okay with Lyon these days and—"

Gray dropped onto the floor in front of Lucy, eyes fixed on hers.

"It seems like you're trying to turn our little New Year's party into something different. Are you sure you weren't just looking for a chance to get me to talk to certain people you think I should be closer to? We know each other pretty well by now, right? And I know you wouldn't do anything to hurt me or for selfish reasons, unless"—he broke off, suddenly wary of saying the wrong thing. Sometimes he used jokes to keep people at a distance.

Fortunately, Lucy reached down and poked him lightly on the forehead, saying:

"Unless it involves my rent, I know, I know, sheesh!"

Since she appeared to be genuinely amused, Gray let out a puff of laughter; it was a standing joke with their team that Lucy's scruples inevitably went out the window when her rent was on the line. The mood between them lightened.

"Okay, let me ask straight out, Luce: did you invite Lyon, and Ultear and Meredy, because they're connected to me?"

Lucy chewed her lower lip and then nodded slowly. "I guess that's a big part of it. I have a much better appreciation now for how complicated it is—since Tenrou especially—and since things seem a little more settled these days, I wanted to give you an opportunity to reach out a little. Ultear and Lyon are like family to you and… I know what it's like to realize too late that you could have done something to... to make things better... and didn't."

Gray pulled Lucy's forehead against his. For some reason, touching always helped when they were talking about the hard things.

"I'm sorry about your dad, Lucy. Really, really sorry. And I can see why not getting to see him again—especially the way things were between you—made you think of me and my totally crazy sort-of-family. Ur was deceived, and Ultear was deceived, abused, and manipulated…" He trailed off, unable to continue. It had gotten a lot better since he had finally met and fought Ultear, and learned so much more of the truth. He'd begun to make his peace with her, and even with losing Ur. There was still some way to go, however. He and Ultear weren't exactly in touch.

He heard a faint sigh from Lucy, and then she pressed an apologetic kiss to his temple. She cared about him too much to ignore his pain or her own mistakes. It gave him the strength to wonder whether her basic idea was all that wrong.

"I absolutely shouldn't have invited people—especially those people—without asking you first, Gray. I'm sorry, my bad."

"You wanted to surprise me?"

Lucy looked away, cheeks turning pink.

"Yes… But seriously, given the twinge of concern that made me ruin the surprise and tell you about the invitations after all, I should have known—admitted—that there was a problem. Right?"

Gray shrugged. He wasn't one to need big apologies once something was sorted out—although it helped that he knew Lucy honestly regretted what she'd done. "You'll tell me what you're thinking next time, right? So we're good. At some point I have to stop reacting so much every time you want me to face my past and try to make something good come out of it."

"Thanks… I wish I hadn't—"

"It wasn't a totally bad idea, though."

"Such a compliment!" Lucy was smiling, despite her words.

"Yeah, I could've put that better," Gray muttered. "How about I say that upon consideration, adding some outsiders to our team party seems like a good plan?"

"We could send a quick note to Lyon asking him to invite Chelia as well? Wendy would like that."

"Okay, good thought. Besides, that way I can pretend—he and I can both pretend—that we're being polite for the sake of the girls." His mouth quirked up at the corners, as he contemplated the idea of trying to get along with Lyon in a way that wouldn't total Lucy's apartment. Mind you, Flame-brain would be there too, so there were no guarantees…

Lucy couldn't resist running her fingers through Gray's soft dark hair. Gray could get a little inwardly-focussed at times, but he was also sincere about taking his friends' feelings into account, especially hers.

"I don't know about Jellal and Ultear, though," Lucy said hesitantly. "I mean, they probably won't accept anyway—and no, I hadn't forgotten the whole 'criminal charges' thing, I just wasn't too worried about it."

"Aw, what the hell," Gray replied. Lucy could see that he was now in his "I'll take'em all on" mood, where the challenge of the situation suddenly made him want to prove to everyone (mostly himself, in this case) that he could handle it.

"But—"

"Come on, Luce, don't back down now! Besides, I don't see any graceful way out of it unless you figure I'm fast enough to silence the messenger somehow." He gave Lucy what was no doubt intended to be a murderous leer, and she had to laugh.

"Okay, then. How about: we're just trying to show how good we are at being magnanimous in victory?"

"Of course. Also, it'll play out on their side as doing something nice for Jellal and Erza—maybe. I still don't know exactly what the deal is between those two. I'm guessing that Ultear will want to give Meredy a chance to see people other than their own oh-so-fun-former-evil-doers group."

Lucy squeezed Gray's hand, and he looked up with a rueful smile.

"Yes, I do feel badly for Meredy. I think she got a raw deal. I mean, we both lost our homes and our parents the same way, but I found Ur, whereas she ended up devoted to the person who had caused all of her grief and loss in the first place. Poor kid."

"So it's actually a good thing to invite Meredy, right?"

"Right." Gray hesitated for a moment, then let go of his last desire to add "although you still should have told me first."

Lucy slid off the couch to sit beside him, silently acknowledging his forbearance, but he drew her into his lap instead. He hugged her close, and she laid her head against his shoulder.

"Thanks for not being mad, Gray. At least, not anymore."

"Thank you for giving me a chance to exercise my talent for almost-convincing excuses."

Lucy lifted her head and smiled at him. He smiled back, happy that they were in synch again. A few moments passed in enjoying each other's warmth and a few heartfelt kisses.

"So we're inviting Lyon and Chelia—mostly for Wendy's sake, as well as to avoid some of the more common Team Natsu dynamics—"

"I'll be so torn between thumping Natsu and thumping Lyon I'll be on my best behaviour," murmured Gray.

"—And we're inviting Jellal because I think he and Erza might enjoy having some time together when the world isn't being threatened with disaster—"

"Right, the happy matchmaker approach—how on earth will you keep Mirajane away?"

"—And we're inviting Ultear and Meredy because I think Meredy would appreciate a chance to get to know you better and we both think she deserves to have some fun and meet people who haven't engaged in, um, terrible acts—"

"Have you seen the way Natsu eats?"

"Yes, and you aren't all that different." Lucy tried to look contrite when Gray glared at her and the temperature suddenly dropped a few degrees, but it came out as more of a smirk. "Sorry, sorry, I concede that your manners are generally better than his!"

Lucy ignored his rambling.

"So we're inviting Ultear in part because we're inviting Jellal and Meredy, and in part because I think she could stand to see that a lot of us don't hate her."

"And because you think it will help me deal with things better too."

Lucy's expression became serious again. "I think she's like family to you, and vice versa. And since you are important to me, I want to do whatever I can for both of you."

"Alright, Lucy, fair enough. Just remember—"

"I will. This isn't a book, and I can't make people just do what I want, or make things turn out the way I want." The solemn expression left her face as she added: "Although, to be honest, it's much harder to make my characters do what I want than you'd think! I mean, I know it's a little ridiculous, but they can be completely stubborn about things..."

Lucy had never been a woman of frail health. She was strong. A celestial mage capable of doing things that none had ever accomplished before. So when she and her husband decided to try for a baby, she was disappointed in herself that it had yet to happen after year. Her husband had told her not to worry about it after the first couple months, but a couple turned into six, and then a whole year.

She was inconsolable each time her period came and every time, he’d hold her and whisper words of encouragement and comfort but they always fell on deaf ears. So he’d cry with her, hold her close and gently press his lips to hers and wait for her respond or push him away.

It was his way of showing her that he was still with her and always would be. But it was also his own form of punishment because he hated tasting the salt of her lips. So he forced himself to endure that bitter flavor and never once complained about it because the feel of his abnormally cool breath mixing with hers always seemed to bring her out of that sadness.

I admire him a tone, and I have a lot of his quotes forever saved in my phone, and I think he's the best setter of them all (I'm sorry, he has more experience and tehnique than Kags or Asaaahi, tho I agree that they'll become better than him in one year's time). So there: I aknowledge his amazingness altough he isn't my fave. M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend. Edward. I want to spend a full day with him and learn how alchemy works (and we'd complain together about how short we are). Also, Haruhi: I feel like she'd give the best advice when I'd need it. N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice). My faveourite fandom is FMA: everyone gets love and attention, and there's little to no hate. What I'd like for it is to make it alive again! I mean, there are events and the such, but the manga finished almost 10 years ago, guys! I hope the new live action will bring us back alive. O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of? Hmm... Well On my Own by Ashes Remain was the first one that popped into my head and it kind of reminds me pf Natsu. He's that character that would always smile, but he's always surpressing his feeling ('I've been stuck in a cage with my doubt/I tried forever getting out on my own') P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas). Random AU...? Honestly, I'm not the biggest AU fan, but if I had to, I'd choose 'we've been stuck in a traffic jam for two hours and we're bored, let's play cards; hey wait Gray, you're cheeting; no way I'm not!; mira, doing cutesy things won't help you win... Laxus don't give in!!; if Laxus is allied with Mira so is the thunder legion! Then I'm starting one on my own! Erza, I'll join... Great, now we have Wendy on Erza's side... All dragon slayers together! And exceeds! Wait lucy, starting a female club isn't gonna help ya! ...guys? That's not how you play pocker!' AU. Okay, I may like this one in particular. Maybe I'll write it:) Q - A fandom you’ve abandoned and why. I've abandoned the HP fandom. I still like the books, but I kinda grew out of it...? (And into anime😇) R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom? Uhm... In which one? If I'm going with FT, my favourite friendship is GrayLu. In FMA, it's a tie... I love Roy/Hughes brotp and Al/Ed brotp. In Haikyuu... Damn they're too many to choose! But I'd say the Karasuno third years: they have such a tight-knit bond!! And in AssClass it would be Karma/Okuda (it's canon in my mind but friendship in the manga). I just love how easygoing they are. Also, I love Karma/Nagisa in the second half. S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged) Hmm... There are many. My fetish is seeing people sleep: I think you can tell alot about their inner selfes from the position they use when sleeping and from their habits, because they can't control or put up a façade when it comes to that. So my headcanon is that despite being loud and obnoxious, Natsu actually occupies less space than Lucy when sleeping: he takes a baby-posture, while she lashes all over the bed, sometimes punching him im sleep unintentionately. Natsu learnt to deal with it: he actually likes holding Lucy close to make sure she's safe while sleeping. She doesn't mind, especially not during winter. Oh and they also cuddle with a cup of hot coffee in their hands during the morning. Just an after-thought~~ T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending? I do! I don't care if you agree or not, but Karma can be sweet, okay? Like he can actually be a good boyfriend (tho maybe a bit possessive). He's the best at telling what's on Okuda's mind and he always buys her toffee when she's feeling down. Oh and also, Riza is a very good mother, always putting her family first. Just letting you know. U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites. Yes!! 1)Karma-assassination classroom. He's that one character that believes he's the best, only to get proven that he can be wrong. What's evenbegter is how he has room to develop and grow to be a better person... Plus, it seems I have a thing for evil goofballs. 2)This is a hard one, but Ed/Roy-Fullmetal Alchemist. I abso-freaking-lutely love all the characters in FMA, but these two attracted my attention. Ed because of how he thinks, how he wants to do good deeds in spite of his thorny exterior and how he miserably fails. I love the way he admits his failures and the way he deals with them can be childish (he's 14, for God's sake!) but he learns from them. Also, Roy because even though he went through Ishval, he still dreams of making the world a better place. I can respect a man who doesn't step over the ethics just to achieve that dream and who always bends and avoides hurting others, while never giving up. Maybe it's a dream, but I very much resonate with it. 3) Lucy from FT. She's the one character in Fairy Tail that has enough of a backstory and is weak enough to evolve. Moreover, she's not your typical girl: yes, she cares about how she looks, because she IS an woman, but she also cares about what's on the inside. She cares about her friends more than anything and even without being the strongest mage, still puts herself in danger for them. I love her resolve and her cute side, too. V - Which character do you relate to most? Hmm... Haruhi Fujioka from Ouran Highschool Host Club. Haruhi is the type to do things on her own and she repells the help of others to do her thing, which I also tend to do. Also, she shoulders a lot of her worries by herself. Plus, she never judges people on appearance and doesn't care about her own (being a girl, that's rare and helps me relate all the more). I just love her😍 (and sometimes am compared to her by my friends). W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom. Whiny female protagonist. I'm not a feminist or anything, but I've had enough of that! Yes, we all want a prince charming, but we can carry ourselves, thank you very much. X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom. Someone pursuing their dreams. Also, I love genre deconstructions (browny points if it's comedic). Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)? Voltron and Yuri on Ice (I feel like I've watched this shows even though I haven't). Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! (Prompts optional but encouraged.) Don't tempt me, I will! ( I kinda have this whole post tho) Okay so I'll rant about FMA because I feel it doesn't get all he love it deserves!!! (And because I refrained from fangirling on it up to now) And since we're talking FMA, let's talk Roy Mustang (you knew this would come). Roy is just one of those very strong people that are actually just goofballs on the interior and need love. Seriously, let's take a look at what this guy went through, ok? He's an orphan, but he never complains and learnt to love his cousins (sisters) and aunt (mom). He was taught by a pretty crazy (very talented, but Hawkeye did have a screw loose for inscripting a tatoo on Riza's back and you can't convince me otherwise) alchemist, and yet he managed to become the next flame alchemy. Despite being told not to, he joined the military with a childish dream and even after learning of the harsh reality in the Ishval war, he still went on believing that he can make the country a better place. Yet he's not perfect: he can lose his temper when it comes to those he loves (Mustang being killed) and he doesn't want any more people to die. He cheerisbes his team and wants to keep them all safe. He can be a cheapskate and also a bit of an annoying guy with Ed, and he can be obnoxious, yet funny as hell (tiny miniskirts!!!) Above all, Mustang feels HUMAN! Yes, he puts up a great act, but it's an *act*. He has a more sensitive side and you better not mess with it, or he'll burn you to ashes. This concludes the short version of my Roy Mustang appeciation post. Also, I have some headcanons about him being best dad (and his child being a daddy's girl/boy because of it) and of being a pretty intimidating Führer. Inuyasha: I’m going to go ahead and say Kikyou again for this. Like... going through and watching it again... I was able to really see things from her stand point. (Without thinking of Kagome) And really... Kikyou is an incredibly strong character. I feel very VERY bad for her.

Ranma 1/2: Ukyou. I often find that I dislike characters if they get in the way of my ships, but I’m kind of getting over that haha. Ukyou is a very tough character. And I really like her <3

The first character you loved: 

Inuyasha: Kagome. She has this feisty attitude straight from the beginning that I loved so much. She’s 500 years in the past battling demons and gets pissed that a half-dog demon is calling her the wrong name.

Fairy Tail: Gray. The first impression we get is him in his underpants, and when he’s told to put on some clothes, he says he doesn’t have time for that as he storms off to join the dust cloud of guild mates fighting. I laugh every time. 

Bleach: Orihime. A sweetheart from the start, with a quirky personality and a little crush on our favorite soul reaper. And her character development throughout the story is just spectacular.

The character you never expected to love so much:

Inuyasha: Sango. At first she just seemed like the second female in the group, a secondary character, but her story is so intertwined, deep, and tragic, that she immediately starts taking a front seat. I love her strength, her kindness, her anger, and her pain. She has lost everything, and then through this crazy adventure, she gains everything. I just love her character so much.

Fairy Tail: Gajeel. When he first comes on screen, he’s just bad news, not only beating up Levy, but torturing Lucy as well. And then character development hits, and he’s like one big teddy bear now. I loved that about him, and I love him and Lucy as brotps. 

Bleach: Renji. The first time we’re introduced to him, he’s just some lackey doing the dirty work, and he almost kills Ichigo. But after he’s defeated, he turns over a new leaf, and becomes one of the best characters in the story. He’s comedic relief is pretty spot-on, too.

The character you relate to the most:

Inuyasha: Kagome. Because she’s a strong, independent woman who will put her life on the line for a friend. And although stubborn, she just as quick can be kind and sensitive. She’s also all about those first aid kits and healing abilities. (Nurse, anyone?)

Fairy Tail: Lucy. Even though her father basically abandoned her, she realized that family isn’t just about the blood we share, but also about the bonds we form. She found that family in Fairy Tail. Also, she’s pretty badass when it comes to fighting, but cares so deeply for her spirits it makes you want to cry.

Bleach. Orihime. She’s had a lot of loss in her life, but she always manages to smile and see the sunshine in the day. She consistently looks toward the future, and is willing to sacrifice not only her happiness, but herself for her friends. And I’d totally rock the healthcare field if I had her healing abilities.

The character you’d slap:

Inuyasha: Jaken. With a passion. His voice is excruciatingly annoying and all he does is whine or worship Sesshomaru. I feel like he’s simply there for comedic relief, and I can’t stand that.

Fairy Tail: Ichiya. He never seems to really have a purpose to me. Like, Blue Pegasus can definitely be run without him. Although, his role in this latest chapter is starting to change my thinking about him. 

Bleach. Kon and Don Kanonji. They didn’t have any purpose whatsoever. And all the filler episodes with them made me want to strangle myself. They can go burn in a trash can. Worst thing about Bleach was all the forced comedy.

A character you liked at first but not so much anymore:

Inuyasha: Magatsuhi. Right there with you, Grape! He was supposed to be the big, bad demon in the jewel whose been battling Midoriko since the jewel’s inception, but his ending fell flat. I wish they had spent more time on him. After all, Midoriko is mentioned throughout the series as this amazing priestess, but Magatsuhi only got, what? A few episodes?

Fairy Tail: Zeref. His existence was such a sad predicament, but even though he was the major villain of the story, there was always a sense that he still loved Mavis and still had feelings for her. But this last arc has just turned him into a sadistic villain who literally wants to destroy the world. I feel like his character development fell flat at the end.

Bleach: Aizen. He seemed like a huge, awesome villain with some major power, but between all the fillers and such, he got old in the anime. And in the manga, after 3/4 was about defeating Aizen, they brought him out of confinement to beat a bigger evil. His end-game was stupid, and I wish they did him better justice.

A character you did not like at first, but they’ve grown on you (by a lot):

Inuyasha: Kikyo. I was definitely a Kikyo-basher in the beginning (I was like 15 at the time, give me a break), but I have absolutely fallen in love with her character. Her tragic backstory and her fight back to redemption is wonderful.

Fairy Tail: Happy. Surprisingly, I wasn’t a fan of the little guy in the beginning. After dealing with Jaken in Inuyasha and Kon in Bleach, I thought Happy was just going to be another comedy relief that made my ears bleed. But he quickly changed my view on him. Not only is he such a hug part of the series, but his jokes have been on point since almost the beginning. He consistently makes me laugh, and his comedy never seems forced.

Bleach: Kenpachi Zaraki. When we first met him, I was like “this arrogant fool needs to die, he’s getting on my nerves”. But by the end, he’s just a teddy bear who wants a challenge, and he even becomes one of Ichigo’s greatest allies, while still wanting to spar. I actually love his character now so much.

3 OTPs: 

Inuyasha: InuKag, MirSan, and InuKik. They’re the main three I write fics for (although KogAya comes in a close 4th), mainly because I love their dynamics and their character development. I can spend all day sitting down an analyzing them.

Fairy Tail: This ones hard because there are so many!! But I’d definitely have to say GrayLu, Jerza, and Gajevy are high on the list. NaLu and Miraxus follow closely behind.

Bleach: Ichihime, Renruki, and HitsuHina. I think they’re pretty self-explanatory.

Mini-rant about Toxicity in Fandoms

This is just a mini-rant. Feel free to skip. Read at your own risk.

I’ve been in fandoms long enough to see great things happen, and the worst crap go down. I’ve been in fandoms longer than some people here have ever existed. I’ve seen fandom good and fandom evil before even some of you folks here have been potty-trained or said your first word.

But anyway....

To those folks who do nothing but SHIT on other people’s happiness just because you don’t agree with them, KNOCK IT OFF. SERIOUSLY, KNOCK IT THE FUCK OFF. IT’S NOT CUTE. IT’S NOT FUNNY. IT’S NOT HARMLESS FUN. STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT.

Opinions are allowed. Of course they are. It’s a free world. Go ahead. Ship who you like with whoever you like. Go furry. Go paint your Orcs pink. Go ship FemShep with every Turian, Asari or Geth you please. Go write your fanfic or draw your fanart about Lucy Heartfilia x Laxus. No one is stopping you.

At the same time time, people who have differing opinions, who ship different, who paint their Black Templars white or their White Scars black, who think it would be awesome to have representation...we exist. And just because you don’t like what you like, just because we like stuff that isn’t 100% “canon”, just because we like a different spice in our salsa, DOES NOT ENTITLE YOU TO SHIT ON US WHEN WE ARE HAVING FUN WITH WHAT WE LIKE.

Did the global warming just get worse because we ship A x B versus A x C?

Did tigers get extinct because we put female heads on our models?

Did your car crash and kill twelve pedestrians because Gruvia/NaLu became canon instead of GrayLu and NatLI? 

Did a volcano erupt and bury an island in the Pacific killing all its inhabitants with its lava because Guilliman came out instead of the Primarch you want?

NO? NO? NO? NO?

Then quit it. Seriously. Quit it. Do you know how harmful it is to bully people who like different? It’s freaking awful.

I was in the Thundercats fandom back in 2011. I shipped TyChee (Tygra-Cheetara). The popular ship was LiChee. Tychee became canon---granted it wasn’t in the best way possible--I swear some of these writers could use a little lesson in romance writing. The LiChee fans were rabid. Not all of them of course. But some of them were very loud. They called us names, they harassed us, they trolled us in the forums, they insulted us as human beings. IT.WAS,TOXIC.

Granted, none of us found if fruitful to engage in such behavior so for the most part we just ignored it. Until the fandom dies and moves on to other stuff. But it was without consequence.

In the midst of this war I was writing my fics. And mind you they were good fics. Good fics about MY ship. I was doing some of my best writing in a decade when I suffered from writer’s block. I even drew fanart. I wasn’t great, but I was happy. I was happy during the darkest period of my personal life. Because my fandom made me happy. It was a temporary escape.

But the toxicity got to me. It really, really got to me. It got to me so bad I ended up deleting every piece of art I collected from DA. I deleted my fanart. I deleted my published fics. I had one fanfic, the last one I wrote for the fandom...one of the best stories I think I have ever created...there was one chapter left to finish. And you know what? I abandoned it. I can’t get myself to even look at it because it made me feel bad. Just as the toxicity that surrounded it made me feel like shit. And dammit that was one damn good story if I do say so myself.

Now that I look at it, five years later, I still can’t. I cant. It brings back bad memories. It’s like goddamn fucking PTSD.

So before you take a massive dump on someone who thinks different from you, who wants to ship different, who would like something a little different than you do...think...how is this person’s differing opinion affect MY likes? Is it justifiable for me to harass them because of it? Am I giving someone crap for something that isn’t even fucking REAL?
