Okay but hear me out, what if Zavala made baseball an official thing for Guardians to do to get their energy out when they don’t wanna fight but are super hyper. And like he just makes three Hunter, Warlock, and Titan teams and lets the Guardians play around and see if they like it.

And like the Guardians get really into it and create different teams for different important figures (Shaxx, Saint, Ikora, Ghost, etc.) and it becomes really popular and everyone is doing it but THEN a group of edgy Guardians decide to create a Witness team and everyone is like “Omg what no that’s the literal enemy you can’t do that” but they’re just like “Fuck you we can do whatever we want” and so a different group makes a Traveler team and they have a match and it turns into this big thing.

And they make a whole bunch of merch for the different sides and suddenly you’ll walk around and see some Hunter wearing a Witness jersey glaring at a Titan with a Traveler jersey and then more and more Darkness teams start being formed and pretty soon all the news is just stuff along the lines of “TEAM ULDREN VS TEAM CAYDE RESULTS: ‘WE LOST SO BAD IT FELT LIKE WE DIED’” and it’s starting to turn into an actual issue and Zavala is like “OK you all need to CHILL the FUCK down this is NOT what I was trying to do holy FUCK–“ and he disbands all the teams and makes baseball a Not Good Thing™ to talk about or participate in.

And all the Guardians are like “What the hell man what was that for” and they start to go to different planets and have secret matches there and Zavala doesn’t know about any of this and it’s literally just underground baseball matches on everywhere but Earth.

My name is Claudia and I am doing a MA in Korean Studies at SOAS University of London, UK. I'm currently working on my dissertation and I'm basing it on Korean dramas and their subtitles - specifically how subtitles may influence people's opinions about Korean culture and language.

I finally finished organising the main survey I was preparing, which I finally launched yesterday. This survey is the key to my research so it's quite important to me!

To explain it quickly:

Several people have already brought up good points, but another thing I find kind of just... insensitive? About going off about how source memories/exo memories just are not real at all?

Other than the fact that for a good portion of systems that have those, at least some of those memories are created to help cope with trauma the system has actually gone through... one of the common symptoms for systems who have gone through trauma is amnesia.

A lot of systems with trauma who have those type of memories aren't going to be able to remember the actual traumatic memories. Or not remember nearly enough to tell apart the 'real' portions from the 'fake' ones. And as others have said, even if the memory is 'false', if it is affecting the person, especially if it is causing distress, trying to go and tell them how it's all fake does nothing productive.

I have heavy amnesia. I also have 'exo-memories'. Those memories heavily shape my self perception, and they do upset me. But because I have amnesia to the point that I don't remember the majority of our life, I cannot separate out what aspects of those memories come from trauma we experienced, and what is a false or exaggerated memory. This is true despite having been in therapy since I was 11-12. I may never fully have my 'actual memories' back. But the distress from the memories I DO have is real. The effect they have on me is real. To me, those memories are very real (especially when you have... any understanding of how memories work psychologically. An incorrect memories effect on emotions and behavior, can be just as impactful on a person as if the memory is real. And as far as I am aware, the way those memories encode in your brain works the same as they do for true memories. Memories are actually very vulnerable to being encoded or re-encoded incorrectly in a variety of ways, even outside of the context of people with trauma and conditions causing things like amnesia and other memory alteration.)

The ages of Tuvok's children (and Tuvok himself) are nebulous and change depending on the episode (Ex: Janeway says he's almost one hundred[1] but later Tuvok implies he's over one hundred[2].)

Sek is Tuvok's oldest child, described as "a mature teenager" and seems to be in college during 'Repression'. He speaks about changing his major from exo-linguistics to musical composition. However in 'Hunters' Tuvok is given a letter which says Sek has both undergone the pon farr and become a father. This episode takes place in season 4 - yet in season 7 when we see him, Sek is a college aged teenager. Asil is Tuvok's youngest and while in 'Once Upon a Time' he seems to portray her as a small child still in need of guidance (akin to Naomi) - Janeway says in 'Fury' that she was present at Asil's kolinahr ceremony which would imply to me that she's been an adult for a long while. This would match up with the fact that in 'Lineage' Tuvok tells Tom Paris that his parenting skills are "somewhat dormant" since it's been "many years since [his] children were young." (Notably he does not say 'since I've seen them' implying to me that even before canon they were all adults) However it contradicts Sek's apparent age in 'Repression'. If Sek is a college aged teenager (17 at the youngest, 19 at the most) he would have been 10 or 12 years old when Tuvok left as 'Lineage' takes place in season 7 and he is Tuvok's OLDEST. Though I guess it depends on what Tuvok considers 'young children' and how close in age his children are. [1] Fury: "So, not long until you hit the big three digits huh?" <- It's possible that Janeway got the date correct but his exact age wrong (ex: right month and day but incorrect year)

[2] Meld: "I have studied violence for over one hundred years" <- It's likely Tuvok is speaking more theoretically. To be born Vulcan is to 'study' violence but he still places his age at 100+. [3] In 'Flashback' Tuvok and Janeway are brought back to an approximately 80-year-old memory in which he was around 30 (I think he says 29) and Janeway says he left Starfleet for 'over fifty years'. He himself states that he studied the Kolinahr for six years then married T'Pel. So: At 30 he was an ensign then he left Starfleet. He married T'Pel at 36. As of season 1 he considers himself married to T'Pel for 67 years meaning he's around 103 at the time of 'Ex Post Facto' However, Asil is established to have been conceived during Tuvok's 11th pon farr. ('Alice' - this information is dubious since it comes from Tom Paris in a sequence where he and Harry incorrectly guess Tuvok's age) If he had his first at 36 that would mean she was born when he was 113. Tuvok states in Unimatrix Zero that he was born on the Stardate 38774. I don't know enough about Stardates to do anything with this information. I googled around and it seems Voyager begins at stardate 48315.6 which other sources say is 2371. There's no point to this post - I just like Tuvok and so I gather information about him to show my devotion. At some point in his past he fucked up his elbow so bad that they had to replace the joint with a prosthetic. Did you know that? It's established in 'Blood Fever'.

Hey I've seen your post about Ateez and enlistment and wanted to give my 2 cents. Of course if something's incorrect I hope some kind soul will correct me 🙏

At the end of 2020 the South Korean government passed a bill that allows big kpop stars to postpone enlistment until 30

It's called the "BTS law/BTS Military Service Act" because it was passed just in time when Jin was 28 (usual age of enlistment as you said). I don't remember the age of each member but Jin and Suga were 30 when they enlisted. J-Hope was 29

Government awards seem to be a must to be granted this exception, iirc BTS qualified after receiving the Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit

I don't think Ateez are at BTS level tbh, BUT in 2020 the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism officially made Ateez ambassadors of Korean culture overseas which is GREAT and bodes well for the future (idk if it's enough but 🤞🤞🤞)

iirc Kai of Exo was 29 too when he enlisted in 2023 but we aren't sure why (maybe he enlisted at 28 but there were bureaucratic delays?). Afaik he wasn't officially granted postponement

But even before the BTS law some exceptions were made, like Rain who enlisted in 2011 at 29 as well, again we don't know why

(in general there are a lot of exceptions: some men are totally exempt from service for their exceptional skills in a specific field, like asian games gold medalists, olympic athletes, famous pianists, violinists and ballet dancers, you get the gist; some men are allowed to postpone for years taking into account specific university&career paths like med school, or if they are a star athlete or have family they need to take care of; and some men that live abroad can wait until they're 37; but here I'm talking strictly about idols)

Hongjoong said he'd like to enlist with Seonghwa but idk if they'll actually get to do it. KQ might not want to leave the group without their captain and vice captain at the same time you know?

In such case I guess Yunho would be the leader as the next oldest? But then he'd have to enlist just a year after Matz with the 99 line and leave Jongho on his own

Jongho could do very well alone and focus on solo work and collabs, but I think that after Matz, KQ will just make the rest of Ateez enlist all together

(if not all 8 of them together from the start)

Recently I've seen a post that pointed out how Jongho, Mingi and Wooyoung could be ineligible for military service because of their health issues (Jongho leg injuries, Mingi chronic back issues+anxiety and Wooyoung autoimmune skin condition). They might do social services instead (like Suga did)

Military service can be as "short" as 18 months, while alternative/social service is always 21 months from what I know

There are a few puzzle pieces to fit together and I wonder if all 8 of them enlisting at the same time wouldn't be the best solution? A 2 year hiatus of the entire group vs a 3 year hiatus with scattered enlistments

I totally forgot about the BTS law! (My sister has been an army since the DNA era and would kick my ass if she knew this.) Damn, now I'm remember how much the government toyed with those guys back then, constantly going back and forth on whether have to enlist at all or not because they were bringing so much economic growth. Honestly, good on them for taking fate back into their own hands and enlisting voluntarily.

Ateez may not have their level of buying power in SK (yet), but you're absolutely right, if the government recognized their overseas influence as far back as 2020, they should acknowledge them even more now!

Regarding exceptions among the members - I'd think Hongjoong may also qualify for one since he's been diagnosed with two conditions that cause fainting years ago, though he's been managing them well. And I think Wooyoung also spoke of chronic back pain before, but maybe that's gone away by now (as someone who's been dealing with that -ish for 17 years, I hope so). Either way, if I could, I'd put all of them in social services instead. Actually, I'd get them out of this entirely. (But I'm just a military hater, what can I say.)

If I had to guess, I'd assume they'll enlist in two batches like you suggested. Simply because most groups seem to fear the fans will forget about them if they're all gone at the same time. I'd also expect Matz to go first, then the rest in one go. Maybe Mingi could fulfill his pre-debut dreams of being the leader for a bit hehe

For them as individuals though, yeah - I do think everyone leaving together for the shortest time possible would be ideal. Maybe they could even pull a Jikook and stick together in duos for emotional support.

(Or maybe world peace will come soon and mandatory military service will disappear all together and all of this will just go away...)

i find the anti endo point of “just doing it for attention” so weird

for one its really disconected from real life, like, attention is a basic need fir our body, its why solutary confinment is such good tourture. its like saying “theyre just doing it to get food” :l dumb argument, evyone needs and withholding food because someones starving is an evil thing to do, an so is ignoring someone who’s in need of social interaction.

and two, its blatantly wrong. like, we’ve told 0 people irl about being a system, we’ve only told like, 3 online friends, and we never talk about system stuff with them still cuz we’re scared of loosing those friends for being too weird. we pretty much never post about it on our blog an besides the blog description no one wud probably ever know. the one time someone guessed we’re a system in a discord servr i had a full anxiety attack an avoided any interaction for 2 weeks even tho they were accepting, an then when we finaly went back to talking there i made sure we had any trace of system stuff wiped from the servr profile an deleted the messages that made them ask and only just showed that all again after 2 months of keeping everything hidden. we’re terrified of people we know knowing we’re a system or getting attention cuz of tgat.

tho we’re definitly on the extreme end for that (mostly me tbh… the social isolation and abandonment issues exo-memories and the body’s trauma from similar irl stuff deff made me super scared about this) but its a pretty similar experience for a lot of systems from wut ive seen where telling ppl is pretty much an act of compleat trust an usualy very anxiety inducing.

besides, if someone really wus just after attention, they could just post a incorrect fact online or a really dumb take. thats much easier an will get a lot more attention than faking being a system ever could. like, saying something like “reading is bourgeoisie” on a semi popular post will be a thousand times better at getting u attention than being a system ever could.

theres so much more i wana say about this, like the ableism inherent to that argument point, or the way its linked to child abuse, but phone keyboard is stupid and terrible and im too hungy to think well enough to write out those points properly an do them justice.

Like, if someone wants to talk to people on the internet about stuff, there are spaces out there for literally anything and anyone. You're not going to get more attention for being a system than you would for being outspoken in a fandom or a religion or any other social group you're a part of.

People who want attention... don't need to pretend to have people in their head to get it. And the attention you would get for that is often going to be negative because a lot of people are sanist and pluralphobic. But as you mention, it's not even the best way to get negative attention when there are so many actual troll-y things you can do.

You can find hundreds of communities online with people who will support you and give you attention for your takes on various topics! Or you can find hundreds more who will hate you if you push the right buttons!

There's just... no logical reason to fake being plural for attention.

And isn't this, again, the very same claims that have always been made against the LGBTQ community?

It's actually kind of funny how that happens, isn't it?

The people who are getting attention are generally the ones who most conform to society. It's not plural or trans people. It's the ones who do their best to fit in and be like everyone else in their group. Meanwhile, people who have identities that diverge from the norm are often left outcasts and shunned by peers.
