☯ YIN-YANG TWINS ☯
Tumblr media
This thought came about from doing more research on Krillin's spiritual power-up in DBS & I looked at art of No. 17 & No. 18 made by Toriyama.
In the manga & anime, 17 has black hair, but Toriyama gives 18 white hair/platinum blonde hair in the manga.
Tumblr media
Then, my mind gets to thinking...
Identical twins 👥 (meaning they came from the same egg)
Male & female ♂️♀️
Black & white ⚫⚪
Yin and Yang ☯
So, now let's examine the cyborg twins and their artificial connections to yin-yang
Artificial Human No. 17 ⚫
Tumblr media
Yin is associated with negative, dark, passivity, feminine, earth, the tiger, & the color orange.
NEGATIVE: No. 17 is more mischievous & expresses negativity more than his twin.
DARK: No. 17 has dark hair & his skin tone is slightly darker than 18's in the manga.
PASSIVITY: No. 17 took his time and made detours on his journey to Goku so that 16 could complete his directive.
FEMININE: No. 17 has a "feminine" appearance to him.
EARTH: No. 17 was on the Earth when he was revived at the end of the Cell Saga & he later became a park ranger looking after nature.
THE TIGER: The closest connection I can think of to a tiger for No. 17 is he has orange & black clothing that he first appeared in. However, him becoming a park ranger as he looks over & protects animals, he is a "king of the beasts" in a way similar to the tiger representing that due to the pattern on the tiger's forehead resembling the Chinese symbol for king 王. The tiger also represents protection and No. 17 protects the animals of the island.
ORANGE: No. 17 wore an orange bandana around his neck in DBZ (red sometimes in the manga) & an orange arm sleeve in DBS.
Artificial Human No. 18 ⚪
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yang is associated with positive, bright, activity, masculine, heaven, the dragon, & the color azure.
POSITIVE: No. 18 shows more compassion than her twin who is less expressive in a positive way.
BRIGHT: No. 18 has white hair (in Toriyama's art) & her skin tone is lighter than No. 17's in the manga ('bout the same color in the anime).
ACTIVITY: No. 18 wanted to go straight to where Goku was so that No. 16 could hurry up & be free of his directive.
MASCULINE: No. 18 is a tomboy.
HEAVEN: No. 18 was up on Kami's Sanctuary in the sky/heaven at the end of the Cell Saga.
THE DRAGON: No. 18 saw Shenron at the end of the Cell Saga & even returned to Kami's Sanctuary to observe further.
AZURE: No. 18 was wearing mostly blue during her introduction.
To Conclude... ☯
Tumblr media
From what I can tell, it appears likely that Lapis & Lazuli are twins made into cyborgs by Dr. Gero who took inspiration from the Chinese philosophy of Yin & Yang ergo Taiji/Tai-chi.
Tumblr media
Their introduction outfits also have black & white shirts. 18's shirt has more white while 17's shirt has more black. Might be another Yin & Yang thing too (maybe). 18's debut outfit actually has a more black than white, but a lot of blue covering the black (but Yin/black represents the feminine so, maybe that was intentional).
Tumblr media
However, 18's 3rd outfit has a white shirt + a small black jacket which reflects the Yang side more. (Her 4th & 5th outfits do well with the Yang color balance too.)
And in DBS, 17 & 18 dress more freely & break the color symbolism of Yin & Yang.
BONUS
What's also pretty interesting is that Gero studied ki/chi & artificially recreated the concept of tai-chi/taiji (which is both a philosophy & martial art) by creating Cell with the capability to absorb 17 & 18 (who have perpetual/infinite energy).
17 & 18 represent Yin & Yang (which represents a perpetual cycle of energy) so, Cell needed them in order to achieve his "Great Ultimate" form (taiji/tai-chi) which Cell calls his Perfect Form.
Tumblr media
They were planned to be used as components for Cell from the time that Gero turned them into cyborgs.
So, yeah... 17 & 18 are the yin-yang twins

“requiem for methuselah” crazy ass episode for many reasons. Kirk is being fully insane, like I don’t actually think, even controlling for how quickly and easily and readily he seems to fall in love with anybody at the slightest encouragement, that he’d go that bonkers for that android woman he just met while everyone on the ship was this close to dying, but that’s neither here nor there, because in the background you’ve got an equally but much more subtly insane episode for Spock, who extremely uncharacteristically admits to experiencing an emotion (or nearly experiencing, whatever) and that emotion is ENVY of all things. And then spends the rest of the episode warning Kirk away from this new love interest (something that doesn’t usually happen, even when Kirk has very inadvisable love interests) and is, in the end, the person who accurately identifies that Rayna’s competing love for Kirk and Flint is ultimately what overwhelms and destroys her with the most killer line in maybe history???
And then to wrap it up we get an equally uncharacteristic sort of denouement scene (TOS loooves to cut an episode off right after the actual climax, leaving little time for falling action or character reflection, or to stick a sitcom-y button on the end where the gang all smiles and laughs at their misadventures and everything resets to zero, which is not a criticism, it’s just the style of that era of tv, honestly) where Kirk is literally miserable over Rayna’s death (again, kind of unusual for a lot of his love interests, he tends to be able to move on pretty quickly) and Spock goes to see him and he falls asleep right in front of Spock (also odd) and then when Bones comes in to give the final word on Flint, Spock waves him off from waking the Captain (tender) and Bones gives him that awful speech about how it’s sadder that Spock can’t even imagine the love Kirk felt for this random android woman than it is that Kirk lost her in the first place (debatable but also rude) and how his great tragedy is that he can’t love at all like they can and how all he wishes is that Kirk could forget about all of this and move on. AND THEN, to have Bones leave and Spock go over to Kirk and very gently, tenderly, reluctantly touch him and put his hand to his forehead and tell him to forget and HAVE THAT BE THE END OF THE EPISODE??? What am I supposed to do with that??
#‘the joys of love made her human. the agonies of love destroyed her’ hUH. What a cool line.#hope it doesn’t become some sort of…thesis statement for you or something SPOCK#listen my number one beef with the way they write bones is that they just make him completely mischaracterize everything to suit the plot#this man is not an idiot he KNOWS Spock has emotions and just suppresses them#you’re going to tell me he’s been on that ship with Spock for years and thinks he feels no love whatsoever for anyone???#like even after what happened in the empath and in that episode where McCoy thought he was dying#he knows Spock loves people!!! COME ON#does he really just mean romantic love?? that’s so boring WRITE HIM BETTER#also they’re banking a lot on people remembering what the Vulcan mind meld is for that last bit#like I know it comes up a lot but…this is 1968 or whatever. They don’t have this shit on dvd to rewatch#you’re counting on really dedicated fan memory here or on people catching reruns#because otherwise it just looks like Spock waiting to be alone to touch Kirk as tenderly as possible and pray he forgets this woman#truly what’s going on#anyway I kind of hated this episode#like quite frankly there was too much going on#are androids people? would Kirk fall in love that hard that quickly and choose it over the safety of his crew?#why wasnt the illness ravaging the crew a bigger deal??#they didn’t even get into WHY flint was immortal#he was just a regular human and apparently the ONLY one who was granted immortality by the earth’s atmosphere#leaving aside the very creepy and very early born sexy yesterday trope going on throughout#but it was a really good Spock episode if you just….dont look at anything else….#the writer for this one also did Day of the Dove and Mirror Mirror which explains a LOT#two other episodes that are interesting for the character dynamics but really chaotic plot wise#anyway imagine saying to Spock’s face that he has no idea what love can drive a man to do#one has to laugh#tos#star trek#as always…. I’m sorry that I’m Like This

One of my favorite differences in the DBZ manga that makes Vegebul make More Sense To Me, is that because Vegeta never left Earth, he was living at Capsule Corp for over two years before Bulma got pregnant (assuming Trunks is like 3-6mos old when we see him as a baby), but she said she 'wouldn't live with that jerk' afterward, which implies (to me) that he'd been a chill enough housemate up until the pregnancy, which tracks with his generally private and professional behavior as a Lord in the Freeza Force (in the manga).
I like to think it became a compounding factor in learning that he was slated to be killed in a year, and led to him being uncharacteristically overzealous and performative (and so opposed to Trunks getting close to him) in the android saga as opposed to how strategic and cautious he was with serious threats in the Freeza saga.
I am also always thinking about how Something Happened between him losing to Cell and re-entering the time chamber in the manga, because he was back living at Capsule Corp and staying near Trunks and Bulma when the Cell Games were announced.
#Something was definitely Bulma not getting laid for over a year and Vegeta not getting laid for over 2 because of time chamber shenanigans#You can just taste the Good Shit in the conversation from that first night back 🤌 Anyway#Every day I think about how Freeza assumed Vegeta was always going to be his biggest threat -- not just for his power but for his cunning#Every day I think about how that can still be true and how after the Freeza arc Toei traded that cunning for boisterous arrogance#even though that was literally only happening in the android saga and not NEARLY as much as they wrote it#Vegeta being Quiet and Smart is ALSO a reason Vegebul makes a lot more sense if you've read the manga#He's probably the only one in that group who never needs her to translate science talk and the bar is low but boy can he can hop over it#Thinking about how he sat there and explained the science of the Great Ape transformation to Goku and WHY he could create a false moon#Thinking about how Vegeta knows what to do how to do it AND can explain to someone WHY it works#and knowing Bulma would hear a bad boy fighter talk Science and throw her underwear at him at terminal velocity#Every day I think about how Vegeta is constantly flirting with the trickster trope but you'd never know that from watching the anime#He's so sMART and Goku's so DUMB that's why they're great FOILS TOEI#Like Goku's not Stupid but he IS dumb he is a dumb puppy and we love him#I see a lot of Geets fans say they miss how he was in the Freeza arc but he's like that A LOT in Super (just on the good guy team)#His breakdown is over he knows who he is again he's confident he's whole he's fucking Out Here in Super PLEASE read the manga

i totally get if it was done for Artistic Effect and whatnot, but your last series got me wondering: does wolfgang's skin have "seams" for ease of peeling it back in certain areas, or do the usual surgical-type incisions need to be made? also now that i'm thinking of android skin apparently, is the inclusion of their skin a cosmetic thing to liken them more to humans, or does it serve a more functional purpose? how operable is an android if they lose a significant amount of skin? (body horror brain go brrrrr)
ohoho thank you once again for a treat of a question!! im hoping to pick up these rambles and put them into a more digestible, comprehensible bite sized pieces of illustrated lore but for now-
so, in older conceptual designs i was playing with idea of sort of "plating" or like, accessible panels and seams. but that proved to be too sterile and not perverted enough for what i wanted to do with this world and story and so - their skin is trying to imitate the look and function of human skin.
to get inside - incisions have to be made, or the skin can be torn into, and ideally sealed back up with tiny dissolving stitches or special glue, to prevent scarring. the skin is the one part of android bodies that is somewhat more easily reproducible and replacable (it can still be very expensive depending on the damage). it has basic self healing functions, most of them helped by the substance that passes as their blood. they're also made in a way that allows them to bruise, bleed and blush (not sweat though). Wolf makes it look nonchalant, but they are under a certain amount of pain and discomfort when they're "peeled", cutting into the skin and removing it is painful - but they are a freak so don't take their example as the norm.
(the artistic element tends to be whether i add the blood coming from the wounds or not, and it fully depends on how stylized and removed from reality im making a specific piece. blood has two unfortunate elements which is it would cover up the artificial muscle thats such a pain to draw, and also it tends to remind people of the horror of the body. i tend to forego it when its more anatomical style illustration or showing off the body, and include it the most when its either serving its body horror purpose, or -my favorite - when its a complement and contrast to romantic feelings or gestures on display :") )
how much skin can they lose before they become inoperable? its similar to blood loss, or any other more serious injury - while the body is technically okay to continue functioning for as long as the main processing unit is not completely separated or its energy sources are not drained, the brain will send a signal to shut down as soon as it perceives the damage to be too much. meaning a normal android would go into shock and shut down mode if they take too much damage and pain too quickly. depending on their situation*, their body can then send a gps retrieval signal as basically a call for help. (but this is not something everyone is equipped with or authorities would necessarily respond to. ) (* more on that later)
and then theres Wolfgang, who we have established is a freak in more ways than one. they have a lot of trust issues about anyone being in their head, and they stay up conscious through surgery. they can also withstand a lot more pain, bloodloss and injury than an "average" android. the" why" is twofold; partially they were literally built different for the work they did before becoming bonafide social reject and private investigator/vigilante, partially the event that ended that line of work (and had them trapped and tortured for a decade until their escape) included the persons responsible fumbling in their brain and 'settings' to make sure they would withstand those years of torture wide awake. this is a roundabout way of saying i think Wolf could go at it skinless if they really had to, they've been through worse :" ) (and to put it plainly, these days, after being able to physically transition and change their body - displaying parts of it, having them be touched or seen consensually by someone they trust brings them pleasure also through the feeling of reclamation of the ownership of their self and body)

Which Google would be the most tolerant of human emotion? Take Eric, for instance, Anxiety 100 24/7, and easily emotional <:]
Red is probably the safest choice but he isn’t exactly a mediator.
Tries to distract with puppy and kitty videos. None of the googles can exactly relate to human emotions but Red has spent more time taking in and analysing human behaviour at least. Quickly searching up videos how to comfort someone and scrambling. Awkwardly patting Eric’s shoulder.
All of the googles generally dislike physical contact especially hugging because it can block their ventilation. They could overheat, and you could burn.
Red is the only one willing to make an effort to understand humans and their emotions.

(sorry for leaving y’all in suspense I was grocery shopping) Surprise!! I accidentally got into Len’en like two weeks ago. Whoops! I got ideas for cool drawings to do with each of the BPoHC shrine team members (and you-know-who, ofc, but that one might be… weird lol), but Tsubakura gets to go first cause theirs is the simplest; just greyscale + red color scheme with a split background and the pose is mostly random (maybe they’re squishing Tsurubami’s little eye thing? Idk). Very pleased with how everything worked out; the line for the eye is exactly where the dividing line for the background was and the way I managed to make the vest corseted while not changing the ribbon placement is just perfect. Although I did make their hat smaller out of the aforementioned cowardice also that thing is hard to draw
#art#digital#len’en#tsubakura enraku#for those not in the know: Len’en is a game series inspired by Touhou but there’s a number of things different about it and it is rapidly#spiraling off into a very complicated story and also other game genres; also every character’s gender is officially ‘whatever’#This character (Tsubakura) plays like Marisa but is also a shrine maiden (priest) along with the Reimu type character#Nonbinary (to me) mad scientist.#Replaces soy sauce with calligraphy ink in every culinary application.#Made a nuclear bomb once supposedly on accident.#Locked in a blood feud with their 3(ish) absurdly powerful ex-girlfriends and this has led to at least one actual war. so far#(hello high brightness users! :D)#Apparently mastered genetic engineering and mostly uses it for stuff like making it so they can put ink in their coffee and not die from it#what’s not to love#oh ya I doubt anyone cares much since this was in the tags but I got some stuff wrong due to misunderstanding & exaggeration for comedy sryy#nuclear bomb was definitely an accident cause they got really sad about it after which is soooooo funny#they do eat ink and also soap but it’s not really explained why it doesn’t kill them of why they like it#also they made an artificial human (+ several androids) who’s supposed to be an assassin and used to be an even more blatant mega reference#hasn’t actually killed anyone yet cause their first target is Tsubakura lol#and I’m barely exaggerating abt the ex girlfriend thing; they haven’t been confirmed to have dated in canon but they were quote#‘close enough to want to murder each other’#and one of them is very homoerotic about it all the time so like rlly not that out of pocket#admittedly the one I’m drawing somewhat homoerotic art of with Tsubakura atm is probably one of the other two but whateverrrr#it still fits Arde well enough#*mgs reference

Things North and Connor have in common
They both witnessed their own model being killed.
Often dismissed as "too radical"
Between flight or fight will always prefer to fight
Self-worth is quite a challenging concept, nothing matters more than the big end goal that they themselves may not even see.
They both killed, no matter if it's peaceful route or not, they didn't get to have their pacifist option
Can't lead the revolution without Markus.
Although in one thing they're different
North would have never chosen to sacrifice the revolution for the sake of ONE person, even if it's Markus (although it's kinda different, because no revolution seems to be possible without him)
If she ever finds out what Connor did inside CL tower before freeing those androids, that he actually had chosen to save ONE human instead of thousands of androids (before it all worked out), she'd be really angry and disappointed with him. She woudn't trust him again. She'd try to convince Markus not to trust him either, because no matter what he did, this action alone is like a betrayal of his people for the sake of what, a human? "Who's side are you on?"
