POV: You're scrolling through tumblr in 2014 when everyone was obsessed with British pop culture

I have memories of people (especially North Americans) being obsessed with British culture (by British culture I mean English pop culture - nobody cared about the rest of the UK)

I remember seeing pictures of English celebrities and YouTubers, people wanting to move to London, TV shows, BBC, liking the accents, etc.

And of course the Keep Calm and Carry On war posters

There's nothing wrong with liking British culture, of course (I myself like to learn about it and consume the media), but I think it's funny how much people idealized the UK ten years ago and now people are making fun of it all

I feel like people will always idealize a country or culture that isn't their own, like how now people are idealizing Korean pop culture (not hating on Korean culture at all, just an observation)

Anyway, I had this in my head and wanted to share 😃

It hurts my soul to see Doctor Who so explicitly conjure Marvel. Like I have much fewer strong feelings against Marvel than most people I hear these days but I still kinda want Doctor Who to be the anti-Marvel. Am I alone in that? Is that too much to ask?

But, that said, at the same time, Doctor Who feels like it earns this opening to me so much more than Marvel did. The cameos in this tag actually conjure a history from 10, 30, 50 years ago rather than recalling a nostalgia from the past 3, 5, 10 years. Maybe it's because I have more of a relationship with Dr Who but that feels much more satisfying to me than seeing a clip from the last Avengers movie.
