BRING ON THE BASKETS - PLOT DROP #1

A-tisket, a-tasket, it's time to bid on those baskets! The town green is packed with people for a Sunday morning as representatives from Town Hall are handing out picnic blankets. Residents can be spotted shuffling through the crowds as they try to claim a good spot to sit out on said blankets with a good view of the Gazebo or sneaking a peek at the baskets that are on display on the nearby tables. After all of the attendees are settled in, your host, the manager of Rose Tinted takes the stage to bring up the first basket. On cue, the games are off! The bidding has commenced and may the most generous and, debatably well-off, bidder win.

HOW WILL IT WORK?

You all voted on the date and it's official! We will be kicking off things in the Discord server shortly where we will be providing detailed instructions throughout the course of the event, so please keep an eye out for our cues and instructions over there. But, before we get started, we wanted to give you all some added background on the Bidding.

We will start the discord party off with characters getting settled in outside of the Gazebo and will let everyone know when the basket bidding has begun. The creators of the baskets' identities will remain anonymous until the end of the discord party where the pairings will be posted.

We will also have OOC guesses as to which basket belongs to who before the full list of pairings is posted, so if you have an idea as to which character a basket may belong to, please keep it to yourself until the end. The player who OOC guesses the most amount of baskets correctly will win a prize.

We will, similar to an actual charity auction, start with bidding for the first basket, then the second etc. Every character, whether you've submitted a basket or not, will be allowed to bid (we know we said otherwise on an earlier post, but after some deliberation, we feel this will be the most engaging and fun way to hold the Charity Auction).

That being said, after each basket, once everyone casts their bids, we will take a quick break to select the winner. The winner might not be the highest bidder. If a bidder has already won a previous basket or if a bidder is a basket submitter themselves, they may not be eligible to officially win, but we still want them to be able to participate in the fun of bidding whether they take home the prize or not. We also want to make sure that everyone who OOC wants a basket pairing will get one, whether their character has money to spend or not.

 But, below you will find, the full list of baskets so that you, as a player, can have time to mull over which baskets you are interested in having your characters bid on. 

Once all of the basket owners are revealed, the Discord party will be over. You and the other player can then plot out your date threads. We ask that one person in each pairing posts the starter of their date thread before April 31st, but if for some reason, your pairing needs an extension, please let us know.

Last but not least, we hope you're as excited as we are since this discord party is sure to be a lot of fun!

THE BASKETS

Basket #1

Basket #2

A hot pink Barbie basket is filled with gel pens, a tinfoil hat, the world's strongest flashlight, Twizzlers, and a notebook for writing down ghost sightings. The evening will include tracking some suspicious footprints in the park in hopes of finding Bigfoot, and then a night of ghost hunting.

Basket #3

This antique sewing basket, its handle woven with twisting ivy and flowers, contains a handful of vaguely anachronistic period gothic romance novels. The varied protagonists on their half-finished covers are mere blank silhouettes. Ever wanted to model? Enjoy several extravagant costume changes as you take part in a photoshoot by a niche book publisher outside one of the older and grander homes in Lunar Cove, your sprawling accursed manor for the day. The shots themselves will then be used as artist references for the completion of the dustjackets. The lucky winner of this basket will receive the completed oil painting of their favorite photo from the day; will adjourn to the interior dining room for a feast befitting a haunted aristocrat, dashing rouge, or mysterious visitor; and will see their very own visage dotting the shelves of New Leaf Bookstore in several weeks.

Basket #4

A worn wooden crate, containing a couple flashlights (battery condition unknown), binoculars, and a rusted compass, several antique keys of various sizes, a length of climbing rope as well as what appears to be an old treasure map and a $50 gift certificate to the Stingray Boathouse.

Basket #5

This small basket contains a well loved, well marked copy of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, along with a handwritten offer for an outing of the winner's choosing. While they understands it's not much, they plan to provide a date (romantic or platonic) of the winner's choice, complete with a walk around town in the "splendid, silent sun with all their beams full-splendid" and a candlelit dinner cooked by the Basket Owner, themselves. They promise not to bore you by quoting too much poetry. Unless, of course, you're into that kind of thing.

Basket #6

A classic, brown ash basket adorned with a single yellow fabric around it and finishing with a pretty bow. The mix of scents coming from within it's inviting to check its content. Inside, you can find bath salts, a body scrub, a clay face mask, a body lotion, a bottle of champagne and two flutes, as well as small scented candles and The Notebook's blu-ray to set the mood of a lovely night in. Oh! There's some chocolate hidden in there, too.

Basket #7

Inside a plastic beach bucket are two shovels, a few sand molds in the shapes of bones, mini cowboy hats, sunscreen, granola bars, and a hand drawn map of the beach. There are three X's on the map and if followed, the lucky winners of said basket can dig up their very own (most likely fake?) small animal skeletons. And one definitely fake mini dinosaur skeleton.

Basket #8

Placed gently into one of the bidding tables, is a woven picnic basket a deep mahogany color. A soft plaid picnic blanked the color of daisies is placed first, the color contrasting with the deep brown of the basket. Inside, carefully placed against the back of the basket, are two sheathed axes with the Looking Sharp logo on the handle. To the axe's left there is a map with a path from Looking Sharp to the Lunar Cove beach, with an X with 'picnic spot' written next to it. On the right side of the axes, there is a picture of the Lunar Cove beach at night, the starts glittering and written in cursive in parchment it's Amos Russel Wells' The Stars Above the Sea poem. The picnic basket is big, and there is still plenty of space left. Taking up most of that space is a selection of picnic foods: focaccia bread, a charcuterie board with salami, prosciutto, and more, a cheese board with no less than four types of cheese, beef empanadas, spinach empanadas, tequeños, hummus and lemon bars. There is a bottle of sparkling cider and one of sweet tea next to the focaccia. Laid gently on top, it's a cherry blossom branch and two flower crowns made from pink, white and yellow flowers.

Basket #9

Assembled in a wooden gift craft you will find a selection of small batch whole coffee beans, a manual coffee grinder, and a french press.

Basket #10

A standard basket bought from any department story is filled with a thermos of vampire blood, an extra large box of band-aids, a book on self defense, and a pair of boxing gloves. The evening will include a self-defense class to prepare Lunar Cove citizens for any future attacks.

Basket #11

This once white basket, now scuffed as though it has seen very much use, contains an old box. Its cover advertises a mid-century toy theater of some sort, featuring "27 figures from your favorite tall tales and a cardboard stage with a magical forest backdrop." There are only 18 figures inside, two of which are Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover, evidently from another playset. Something that was once presumably the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz has had his head shattered. Also in the basket are two slingshots and several paper targets. The implied activity seems to be...destruction of the rest of them?

Basket #12

A large black picnic basket with green lining. Tied to the sides are a picnic blanket, and a large white sheet. Inside there are a selection of classic horror movies, a mini portable projector, and cinema style snacks (popcorn, candy, etc.).

Basket #13

A big white woven basket on the outside but inside the basket is lined with a dreamy satin that is baby blue. Inside sits a fluffy queen size blanket, a medium sized satin pillow that matches the lining, a sleeping potion, different photos of cities like Paris, New York, LA, and Rome. Also included are two pink cards. On the first first pink card is an invitation to a dream date, promising that you can go anywhere in the world of your choosing with a little magical help. On the second card is an invitation to High Tide where you can get dinner together (their treat) once you awake from your slumber.

Basket #14

In a wicker picnic basket sits two strawberry croffles (croissant dough made in a waffle iron) and a box of sakura-shaped macarons, along with a gift card to a The Daily Drip. Two tickets to a pottery class at Kiln’ It are tied together with a ribbon, along with a couple of aprons. After the auction, you can grab a coffee at the Daily Drip and enjoy some of your pastries before donning your matching aprons to make mugs at Kiln’ It. If all goes well, you get souvenirs to remember the night forever! If not, well, you can always buy a better handmade mug there instead.

Basket #15

In a homemade bread basket with a woven pretzel handle filled with brie, sits finger sandwiches, chocolate covered strawberries, a bottle of champagne and a bucket list with check boxes to select. From sky diving to a hot air balloon ride, the list goes on and on with instructions to select your top 5 and whichever options you select are the ones the two of you will be doing, before ending the night star gazing up on the cliffs where this basket owner can tell you the story behind any constellation you may like.

Basket #16

Rather than a basket, there is a boombox with a black envelope tied to it with a red bow. On the outside of the white envelope are the words “Say Anything” written across it in cursive referencing the classic 80’s film because this date comes with the promise of re-enacting your favorite movie moment. Want to react ‘Staying Alive’ from Saturday Night Fever at the Roller Rocket? How about the ending dance scene of Anastasia on the deck of High Tide? Or sing “Money, Money, Money” from Mamma Mia on a Yacht? You name the scene and this date promises to make your favorite moment come to life for you with the date starting off the way any romcom might- with a quintessential shopping spree. Inside the envelope you will find a black card with the instructions to go nuts (just as long as its clothing related).

Basket #17

Inside a small repurposed plastic laundry basket sits a stack of mismatched and chipped plates from someone’s attic and a collection of empty beer bottles. At the top of the stack is a coupon for two to The Rage Cage to break them.

Basket #18

In a metal Lilo & Stitch lunch box you will find one Fool’s Gold Loaf sandwich cut in half, aka Elvis’ sandwich of choice being a whole loaf of sourdough bread made up of a pound of bacon, a jar of peanut butter and a jar of jelly. There is also a second peanut butter sandwich with a note saying “for Pudge the fish because you can’t just give a fish tuna- that would be an abomination.” The haphazardly put together lunch box that looks as if it has been thrown together a minute or two before the auction started, comes with random napkins with sarcastic sayings on them, and is sitting on top of surfboard that is still somewhat damp as if it had just been used earlier that day in the water. There is also a ukulele beside it. The “basket” suggests that the date will be a surf lesson and, if you’re lucky, you may also get a ukulele rendition of your favorite song.
