I was doodling the boys and I got a little carried away. I was thinking that when Maul first takes Ezra on as his apprentice they would have a lot of issues with communication. Maul isn’t used to having a moody teen in his life. BUT HE IS TRYING. Ezra has to be more open about what he wants. Eventually they work things out. ❤️

Ezra wailed as the needle pierced the tender meat of his inner thigh.

Maul smiled, petting a hand down his young apprentice's cheek. His thumb traced the thick, black curl looping the boy's skin, highlighting the handsome cut of his jaw. He was a masterpiece. Truly, his greatest work yet.

But not quite finished. The warm buzzing sound of the droid's tattoo gun was overrun by another cry of pain as it continued on its path, carving a broad lightning bolt deep into copper skin. He soothed his ornery apprentice with gentle hands, fondness blooming in his chest as Ezra fought his restraints to curl against him, sobbing. "Master."

"Oh, my dear." He wiped the tears from the boy's face, careful of the fresh piercing dangling from the shell of his left ear. "Just look at you. So beautiful." His affectionate smile turned to a wolfish grin when Ezra blinked wide eyes up at him, no longer gemstone indigo, but bright, sunset gold. "I made you the way you are."

Sith hardly ever get a chance to just be playful and that’s such a shame because who couldn’t use a little lighthearted cuddling. 

I know this is leaning hard on the cracky/humor side of things, but I’m having all of the Ezra/Maul platonic-affectionate feels. Maul was raised by a man who didn’t give a shit about him but now here’s Maul with this kid that he could give everything to that Sidious never gave him. He could give him support and backup and encouragement and trust. He could do things right, damnit, if the universe would just give him the chance. Because strength is power, and having the strength to sustain not only yourself but your apprentice too isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of fortitude and resilience. Because being one with the Dark Side doesn’t mean you have to live without love or family, whatever form those take. Savage taught Maul that. And maybe Ezra needs to know that too, because he sure isn’t learning it anywhere else.

Ezra’s pet name for Maul is Bright-Eyes.

( I mostly use it in stories where Ezra doesn’t already know Maul’s name. I think it’s sweet and a little flirty.🤭 )

Ezra and Maul are basically Christine and Erik from The Phantom of the Opera

There’s an “evil” misunderstood lonely genius and master of his art, who wants to befriend and train the young and innocent prodigy who has captured his eye... 

Ezra is mesmerized by the velvety darkness, wants to accept the guidance he so craves and knows he would learn so much from the "phantom”... But of course everyone around him hates and fears the dark one, urges the young one to stay away lest he “pass the point of no return.” Christine and Ezra both hear the phantom’s voice in their dreams, and have a connection to the dark that no one else around them understands.

Finally the phantom captures Raoul (Kanan? lol) and makes the young one decide his fate. The phantom offers Christine everything in exchange for only her devotion, but ultimately both Ezra and Christine refuse.

The part where Ezra and Christine differ is at the very end, where Christine shows the phantom compassion, and that is what saves the dark one and allows him to find peace. “Pitiful creature of darkness, what kind of life have you known? God give me the courage to show you- you are not alone”

But Ezra doesn’t. He just straight up rejects Maul.

Also the song “Learn to Be Lonely” fits Maul too well to be coincidence.

Not really sure where I was going with this half-baked idea but there ya go.
