uploading this at full size because i'm a giant nerd and think it's REALLY COOL how you can see the aerodynamics of this plane at work. LOOK at how perfectly the air travels over the wings to the tail. the way air parts around the tail fins. this is why they can do such complicated maneuvers. they're engineered to cut through air like a knife. as a photography nerd, a physics nerd, and an engineering nerd, i am delighted with this shot.
A21-23 (F/A-18 Hornet) seen at Classic Fighters 2019.
The RAAF gave punters a real treat by binging a couple of Hornets to do some displays at the show. They gave us an extra treat by sending both special liveried Hornets. With any luck at the next show (2025) I'll be able to get photos of whatever the RAAF choose to send next time.
The entire fleet of Hornets was withdrawn a couple of years ago as they have exceeded their useful lifespan.
