arcade is such a fun character. i’m going to start off with a little bit of how i view him, and then go into more of the original post!

arcade is often written as he portrays himself, asocial and boring. or worse, he’s made to be this anxious, unsure, annoying gay-man stereotype.

but arcade is smart, he’s witty, he enjoys snarky banter and cursing in latin. at the end of the day, arcade needs someone who can keep up with him. someone who can get those gears turning in his brain. arcade values knowledge like no other.

there’s always something to be learned, even with a low int. courier. (my original post was a joke about this, he’s a sadist and following around an idiot in a post apocalyptic wasteland would definitely scratch that itch.)

however, no source of intimacy in his day to day life turned into learning as much as he can. he enjoys books on topics that are redundant to the world he lives in, because it makes him feel important.

being a person of medicine, he knows his way around sharp objects, he’s used to cutting clothes, he’s able to perform basic first aid. (…more on this in a minute.) arcade knows his way around the human body.

arcade was an only child, raised around enclave remnants can only offer so much. and while he hates to use the word lonely (“alone and lonely are two very different things, thank you.” he’d say.) he is clearly starved.

for attention and touch, on a level that means something more to him. i think one of arcade’s strongest points is his friendship with julie, there’s no doubt in my mind he loves her, that he values their bond. but she can’t offer what he’s looking for in this regard, and that’s okay.

arcade craves connection. he deflects anytime the subject is himself, because to him there’s safety in isolation. he’s met “several good men” in his life, but none of them stuck around. for how much he craves that connection, he doesn’t know how to do it. showing versus telling. arcade is honeyed words, but faraway in his actions. until six.

and it’s not that he wants to hurt, or own his partner, no. arcade hates the idea that someone could “belong” to him, HOWEVER; the idea of consuming someone is… special. arcade wants his and his partner’s heart on a silver platter so they can dine together.

i’m going to go through two different scenarios, but each have their own flavour of dialogue.

"I've got more experience dealing with egregious injuries than you think. I could fucking rip you apart, and put you back together again. I could even make that hurt, if you wanted. Do you understand me?"

in this excerpt, as composed as arcade is, he’s frantic. perhaps six is a self sacrificing idiot, consistently putting himself in harms way because he wants to protect his friends, arcade specifically. to arcade, he might as well be doing the damage himself. six gets cut pushing arcade out of the way? arcade can feel the knife in his hand. in this version, i picture arcade’s sadism is more emotionally charged/based.

this is the same idea, but a completely different tone. this time he’s offering, most likely based on an observation he’s already made of six’s self sacrificing behaviour. six wants a brush of death? arcade can offer that without a (serious) risk.

the change from ‘egregious’ to ‘iniquitous’ tells that the injuries go from generally bad to morally wrong. both are things he’s adept in. medicine or sadism.

all this being said, some fun ideas to consider. (nsfw!)

i want an arcade gannon who will cut through six’s last pair of pants without any remorse, maybe even a low chuckle.

featherlight touches with a scalpel or the carving knife he uses for cacti. dragging it down their tummy, down to their thighs.

an arcade who has a mean backhand, who then takes six’s chin in his hand and gives his head a shake like he’s a bad puppy.

an arcade who has six sit in his lap for hours as he works, laughs when they cry about wanting more.

arcade who will bite, arcade who scratches his partner’s hips.

arcade who lets six sit under his desk, pressing his foot to six’s cock as they suck him off.

More Benny/main three chairmen HCs? 🥺

I like can't remember what I've already said so if some repeat pls don't be mad:

Tommy occasionally thinks of trying to branch out industry wise and maybe do a tour but he's paranoid about leaving Vegas

None of them really picked up chems before the Strip. It's not a taboo but getting body issues or withdrawal while having to wander around the Mojave wastes is not bueno.

Swank is well liked by the other casinos even if he doesn't care for them. He's always cordial mainly cause he's scared of being killed or cooked by the other two

Benny has very nice handwriting. He can mimic script but he can't read it.

Tommy practically lives in the theater due to how busy he always is and it's kinda treated as a separate establishment. House sends messages to him (not Ben or Swank) about its entertainers

Honestly, if Benny had told them sooner they may have helped him but at the same time they would've been pissed he's already back on his bullshit

Swank misses the old days the most and Tommy the least. His only complaint is the songs don't hit the same as they did with outside acoustics.

Swank, Tommy, and Benny have matching tattoos from the Boot Rider days that signified they were like a set scouting team (Pls don't ask of what I am still ironing that out)

Any ending where Benny is killed Swank mourns as I feel they were super close. Tommy isn't indifferent but he always half-joked Benny's ambition would lead him to an early grave.

That table at lunch where you can hear them talking super loud and it's all the juiciest gossip but they don't care cause it's not about them

Tallest is Swank shortest is Benny

They are loyal to the Chairmen and follow House's instructions but if House did catch Benny and want him brought in they would've helped him escape

Tommy lost his eye from a cazadore attack. I do not think I have to explain what happened (also a big reason he is least nostalgic)

Only Tommy is good at gambling, Benny bluffs too much and Swank never trusts his own hands

All their suits are gaudy and they only act like Benny's is the worst cause he has copies. Swank has an atrocious pinstripe suit and Tommy's is like chromatic. Eye sores, all of them

They are wary of House and Benny's relationship cause while Benny doesn't notice House's weird sentiments about him they do. It's little things about how Benny mentions House compares him to a son and successor and how much stress he puts the Tops under. They prefer House's silence to his usual "doting" just cause it's less weird and Benny seems more himself when he's not actively checking in with House

Benny trusts their judgement a lot more than he'd ever let on and a lot of his choices as the Head of the Chairmen come from taking their little comments into consideration

Uhh i hope this is adequate. I had to lock into NV head space sense I'm jumping around the games and franchise lore.

Deacon

Deacon knows everything about you. He's constantly following you around and 'gathering intel' as he likes to call it. He'll end up knowing everything there is to know before the two of you even meet.

He justifies everything he does by telling himself that 'he has a job to do and he needs to do it well', even if he seems to have an entire shrine of you back at base.

He gets so scared once you both officially meet because it means that he doesn't have to stalk you for his job anymore. Now he has no reason to find out all these little things about your life, and it scares him that he doesn't have that cover to hide his true intentions behind anymore.

He's very aware at how unhealthy his feelings toward you are and distances himself as much as possible before disappearing from your life entirely.

Eventually, he won't be able to help it and will find a way to weasel back into your life once again, and everything will seem normal from there. You'll hardly realize the type of person Deacon actually is because of how easy it is for him to lie to you.

A lot of the times when he doesn't like someone you hang out with, he'll stalk them for a bit before killing them in a way he sees fit. Usually, it's just sniping, but he can get ugly if provoked. (he was a part of the DP deathclaws at one point)

You'll be none the wiser to the truth because of how easily he can spin it to make him look better. Everything will seem fine and peachy while on the flip side, Deacon's breaking the majority of his morals just to keep his state of mind at bay.

He tries his best to appear laid back and friendly but on the inside he’s screaming, fighting himself not to just grab you or rough up some sideman. He does so much to keep his composure and show that nothing bothers him that it ends up taking a toll on his health.

Even if you dismiss him back to a settlement, he’ll still be 10 steps behind you. He’s come this far and he’s not losing you. He’ll protect you to his last breath.

Deacon might even start sending threatening messages anonymously through caravans just to keep you on edge. He wants you to come running into his arms, hiding away in the Railroad HQ, afraid of your possible assassination while you’re out and about. He can manipulate you so much easier if you're scared.

"Yeahhh, you're 'friend' said that they didn't wanna stick around. Who needed them though, right?"

He might not be one for physical affection, but he ends up hugging you a whole lot as a yandere. They're far from welcoming too due to how tight they are. Bros got an iron grip on you.

Deacon is really protective of you. He doesn’t really care who he’s killing or what he’s doing, if he perceives it as a threat to your relationship, he’s gonna get rid of it. The two of you are partners now, right? You only ever really need him.

He and you will be best friends until he one day decides that he's going to confess to you, and if you even seem slightly against the idea he'll have no issue kidnapping you and keeping you locked away.

He’ll have you trust everything he says, every little lie will go right over your head until it’s too late. All of sudden a hand will reach out from an alley and drag you away from the rest of the Commonwealth, stashed away for Deacon's own peace of mind. Why wouldn’t you want to stay with him, though? He was with you from the start. He knows exactly what he needs to do for you in any situation. He's the one you really want—the one you really need, whether you realize it or not.

Nick

Has a case on you constantly open. Any slight change in behavior or new acquaintance is documented down in his files.

He's on a constant watch for any variable that might compromise your safety or well-being, and if he does find something he deems a threat, he'll take care of it promptly. Even if it's not an act you might've liked.

If he ever finds that you've been gone for longer than usual, he'll track you down and take you to the agency where he won't let you out of his sight for the next couple of days.

There's nothing in the world that would make him want to ever hurt you and makes a constant effort in ensuring that he doesn't accidentally leave a scratch from his busted metal hands.

He's WAYY too overprotective, and he's aware of it, but he convinces himself that since it's for noble-ish reasons, then he's good. I mean, protecting people is his entire job, why would him wanting to defend you be viewed as unhealthy? He desperately tries to convince himself that he's completely in the right, even when that nagging feeling doesn't leave.

He'll try to convince you to live at the agency with him and Ellie. He might even manipulate Ellie into unknowingly helping him out in entrapping you. Having a second-friendly face might just do the trick.

If you happen to own a terminal then bro Is gonna hack it and use any information or logs to his advantage.

Nick has a tendency to just kinda reach out and grab your chin. He does it for multiple reasons: inspecting you for cuts, feeling your skin against him, or simply just making you look at him. He doesn't even realize how often he does it.

Being a detective for so long has made him incredible at reading people, and he especially likes to read you. Every slight jerk or reaction tells him everything he needs to know and he plays off of it so well.

He’s a little insecure due to him not being human. He knows he’s not your ideal type, and he wouldn’t make you be in a relationship with him, as long as you listen and let him protect you then he’s happy. (although, that wouldn't stop him from occasionally slaughtering others out of jealousy)

He’s always there to comfort your or aid in whatever quest you doing to the point that you become emotionally dependent on him.

Nick's probably the most understanding and reasonable yanderes on this list. He never wants you to be scared or alone like he was and his goal will mainly be to keep you happy, no matter what that would take.

It gets to the point where he doesn't want you going to anyone else when you're in distress and would find himself getting a little jealous if you did. He'll end up taking them out if it gets bad enough. You don't really need them that badly anyway, he knows so much more about you and can help you so much better.

Hancock

He's got an eye for you the second you walk into Goodneighbor. He's always going to be lurking around, popping out of corners, and throwing his arm around your shoulders before butting into whatever conversation you were already having.

He has a habit of lacing the things you intake (stimpaks, water, food, etc.) with drugs so that he can take you up to the Old State House to 'take care of you'. It usually ends up being him clinging to you and begging you to stay because you're not in the right headspace, even when you're fully sober.

He'll start telling the people around town that he and you are a thing. Soon enough the guards are all keeping an eye out for you and will stop anyone who tries to hit on you.

He likes it better when you're reliant on him and will have people stage these incidents nearby to make you fearful of going out alone or at the very least more cautious so that he could swoop in and protect you more often

There were a few people who spoke out against what he seemed to be trying to do but they all kept disappearing and, eventually, people stopped questioning it.

Hancock is always going to be thinking about you. It comes to a point where even Farenheit is concerned about whether his crush is healthy or not and might even try to put an end to it as well. That being said, he wants you to be thinking about him just as much and would start slaughtering raiders in front of you so that you never forget him. It'll mostly just end up freaking you out because of how brutal it usually is, but that doesn't stop him.

His obsession gets worse and worse over time until it eventually drives him to do more drastic things like kidnapping you.

He'll manage to convince you that some raider gang has a hit out for you and he just wants to make sure you stay safe till it all boils over. Fahrenheit feels so bad for you as she's not sure what she should do. She just watches you tremble in the corner, knowing it's from Hancock injecting you with Med-X and instilling a false sense of danger into you.

You won't be completely stuck up in the Old State House, though, whenever he has to go somewhere or do something, he'll sometimes take you along. Only if you've been good for him. He likes to think of these times as dates because he tries to get to know you more and ask questions about your past and all that. He finds you really interesting and loves hearing you talk.

He'd love to spoil you with whatever you wanted. It could be something only found on the West coast and he'd still make the journey for you. It's not even funny how lovesick he is.

He gets kinda paranoid that you'd run away from him, so some nights he'll just tie you up, pull you into his lap, and shush your panicked sobs.

The good thing about Hancock is that he's not pushy when it comes to sex. He might flirt a lot and be kinda touchy, but he'd never dreamt of crossing any lines until you said you were ready. He'd wait till the end of time if he had to.

He'll try his best to keep you sheltered and away from the horrors happening outside. He wants to keep you as pure and ignorant as he possibly can. He thinks it's better that way.

As harsh as his actions can appear, he's actually really soft towards you. His touches are gentle, his voice is quiet, and his eyes are always full of adoration.

Friendly guy, just be careful what you mention to him. He has a habit of going batshit on people he deems wrong for you.

ive struggled with how to answer this. i think it is largely that i found the text so movingly beautiful even as it was wrong with every assertion. it is the manic scrawlings of a schizophrenic person, pseudopigraphally attributed to an antidiluvion, and purported to be the The First Book. the text is relentlessly vivid and evocative.

he'll spend pages rambling about how the sun orbits the earth and the moon is a woman, then left-turn into vague call for violence or attempts to describe the undescribable. i think this is my favorite part

Yess! One thing for sure is that he will not be invited to the wedding, whether to NV or a potential future lady. They're definitely done with this "friendship".

As for his family, I agree, they don't seem welcoming at all. Only the Canadian Cavills have been acting super friendly towards her on social media. Yet again, this is what they always do with any girlfriend, so I don't count this as an invite to the Cavill clan.

I wonder what his mom and dad think about this, sure, they support their son. But I think because it is their "famous actor son", they will be extra observant.

Support and ownership is two different things and I feel they are falling into the second category. The stories HC told as a joke show me that he is definitely not the favourite son of her mom. TBH I think he is definitely the end of that list. I feel his mom is controlling. And this had broken all of the previous girls. I think NV is a different kind. She won't go anywhere. But I think this was the first thing I said about her in one of my first readings. She won't leave until HC doesn't tell her to leave.

A preface that I’m far from the first person to mention this and I mostly use it as an explanation for the perk system and a few other things

This is another one that has evolved from a hc and became a part of the fo4 fics I have! But basically it stems from a line of dialogue from the base game where are you hide from a raider and they say ‘here one moment gone the next… how can somebody move that fast’ as well as making the game mechanics of fallout more ‘lore friendly’ because the sosu can use vats before they have a pipboy…which shouldn’t be possible ignoring it as bethesada being… bethesada. And at first I was like ‘oh it was just easier to always have it enabled in the tutorial’ because it’s like that at the start of nv too, BUT that’s boring so I’m running with it (also there’s DIMA’s clownery)

There’s a terminal entry or maybe a holotape that I can’t find a screenshot of where its mentioned that coursers see a target the exact same way the player does with vats, and I remember going insane the first time I came across it. I also use my sosu as being a synth, or having Kellogg style enhancements, as a reason its so god damn hard to kill them and how Norah (who was lawyer and never fired a gun before) is really reaaaaally good at killing people

I uses Norah having stuff unknowingly done to her like what Kellogg had as an explanation for the perks you get when leveling up i.e. being resistant to radiation or being able to see in the dark. But Bee! Why would Father do that if he just wanted to see what Norah would do? I hear you ask and I think he was messing with the parameters of the experiment; it wouldn’t have been very interesting if she died within 5 minutes of exiting the vault after all

I don’t think she’s 100% a courser, I think she has the framework of one, just enough to give her an edge over the wasteland

Depending on how someone players the game maybe that’s why Codsy says its almost like he doesn’t recognize you?

Fashion and Music in Fallout

Man, sometimes I get annoyed with how everyone in Fallout seems to rely on 200 year old clothes rather than even just reusing the fabric instead of wearing tattered rags. Hell, even MAKING fabric wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility. The first linen fabrics date back literally 36 THOUSAND years ago, these mfers could figure out a way to make a decent something.

I officially HC new and original clothing in all my fics/everything. I mean, who KNOWS how fashion would have evolved over all that time. I have similar opinions on music, as well. We know st least one violin exists in FO3, guitars exist in... I think 3, NV and for sure 4. SOMEONE had to play the backing tracks to Magnolia’s songs, so at least some brass instruments survived. And there's bound to be people who've restored or created their own instruments and formed their own genres. Sure, there’d be influences from the past given what they have access to, but does our current music sound ANYTHING like what was made in the 1820s? I don’t think so!

 Tbh, I can absolutely see Sturges restoring and playing an electric guitar with an amp he rigged up himself. In fact, in UTSS I plan to have Codsworth to have been taking care of and maintaining a piano Nate/Nora used to own, simply so Asher can show off lmao. They learned while in med school with the Followers who had a restored one and took to it fast.
