Fallout 2: Rainbow Confederation
Tumblr media
Were you previously aware that Fallout 2 has an unused random encounter called the Rainbow Confederation?
The encounter involved LGBTQ wastelanders that would become hostile if the player lacked Miria (Female PC) or Davin (Male PC) as a companion.
Unfortunately, the encounter dialogue contains homophobic slurs that were used when inspecting members of the faction.
We feel our viewers are mature enough to handle this subject. You can read more about the specifics of the faction here:

ok so we all know about how weird bowser looks in sm64. which is understandable; at the time 3d game modeling was very new, his head is a little too big compared to the rest of his body but it gets the point across fine.
Tumblr media
however.
i think everyone should observe these fucked up bowsers i found on the mario wiki

Equipment, Modding, & Uniques
Like previous Fallout games, weapons and armor can deteriorate with use and require constant maintenance unless changed by gamemode or accessibility settings. Some power armor require fusion cores to run at full performance, while others do not at the cost of lower stats. Fallout: Caldera restores the cut ‘Cryo’ & ‘Fire’ Damage as well as their respective resistance to armor types, which were changed to generic ‘Energy’ in Fallout 4.
The clothing system in Fallout: Caldera is extensive and based partially on Fallout 4’s split-piece system for different limbs, allowing dozens of set variations - it’s also expanded upon, with color changes being handled by the Equipment Modding System.
Clothing system is as below:
Head
Hat Slot
Head Slot
Eye Slot
Face Slot
Chest
Arm Armor Slot
Left & Right
Jacket Slot
Bandolier Slot
Chest Armor Slot
Shirt Slot
Binder Slot
Legs
Belt Slot
Skirt Slot
Leg Armor Slots
Left & Right
Pant Slot
Bloomers Slot
Feet
Shoe Slot
Sock Slot
Combat & V.A.T.S.
A returning gameplay feature is the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System (V.A.T.S.), which can play a critical part in combat. Like Fallout 4, a critical meter that will fill up and players can decide when to execute a critical hit. Unlike Fallout 4, however, the ‘Critical Chance’ statistic makes a re-appearance, allowing for random criticals while striking enemies, partially influenced by Perks or the Luck stat.

My hopes for the fallout TV show are not high.
Enough time has passed for me to talk about this in full since my thoughts have had time to solidify. As you probably know images (w/ descriptions) for the fallout tv show and the trailer itself released a few days ago. So I'll start with the good because this is primarily going to be a doompost rant afterwards. 1. The Sets, Costumes, Make-up, Props, Atmosphere, All of it is AMAZING. it looks GREAT. If the only metric to judge this on were those alone then this would be an easy 8/10-10/10. 2. I like the music used it fits fallout and its cool in the trailer. 3. theres a dogmeat in it thats cool theres always gotta be one of those its tradition 4. They thankfully seem to be doing away with the fallout 4 "trapped in the 50s" garbage they went with judging off the footage of the bombs dropping they showed.
Tumblr media
And thats about it for my praises. Because this looks like it's going to be a lore dumpster fire. So lets start with the issues 1. This takes place in LA, California. You must be aware what other fallout properties all took place in that general sort of area.
Tumblr media
and from those games theres a very important faction completely absent from these trailers. The NCR is completely fucking missing. I have had no luck finding any traces of them despite the fact people have posted pictures of their flag in the background of some shots I can not find it. The fact the NCR is just gone is a very bad sign. Maybe if I'm to be optimistic the reason is because they want to attract fallout 4 fans so they just showed the stuff from that game? 2. The Brotherhood of Steel. They just should not be on the west coast. They're an east coast faction with their remnants in the west being weak and scattered. They should not have an entire armed paramilitary force at the ready with somehow a second prydwin and I know it isn't the prydwin from fo4 its like some sister ship that happens to look exactly the same somehow. Which is a whole other can of worms because iirc they made the prydwin out of the remains of the enclave mobile base they sieged in the fo3 post game. 2b. The Brotherhood seems to be breaking their very own rules and lore. Now I want you to look at this image;
Tumblr media
Off the bat nothing seems wrong with it, right? That guy in all black is a squire. Accompanying a knight. If they're just apart of a group then fine but these two ranks should not be put together if the squire is working under the knight. The brotherhood's entire chain of command is EXTREMELY important with the only times its ever broken are exceptions for the player themselves. Incase you're a normal person who just blew up their bunker in nv; The Brotherhood's chain of command is basically: "You can only command those one rank directly below you and only take orders from someone directly above you." So the elder can only command paladins and paladins only command knights ect. This is so important you can get exiled for breaking this rule. 3. Mutant Overseer in a control vault.
Tumblr media
I doubt I need to explain why this makes no sense. 4. This is JUST megaton. Why is it in LA?
Tumblr media
It could turn out to be really good but it seems like they only played fallout 4 and maybe skimmed a wiki cause there seem to be quite a few contradictions to the main franchise especially since this isn't an AU, this is CANON to the mainline universe.

Thank you for posting the trigger warnings for the fallout show because you saved me from wasting my time
There's a lot that is visually fun with the show- lots of good set design and costuming. But yeah if you're squeamish or have a hard time seeing really awful subject matter depicted it might be good to skip and read up on it after the fact.
The wikis have been doing a good job updating with the new info as best they can, for what that's worth.

Fun fact about Codsworth that you might not know.
-- He remembers Nora, or female player character, when she was pregnant. I know it's a pretty common misconception that he was bought recently after Shaun's birth.
I got it from his dialogue on low affinity level, so it's not surprising if you've never heard of it.
Male PC:
{Irritated, but then happy recalling a pleasant memory - He's not happy with the player right now / Neutral}
If you must know, I was recalling the day you took the missus out for a little expectant mother pampering.
{Starts out neutral and gets more disgusted as he goes on - dislikes the player right now. / Disgust}
Afterward, she claimed she was the luckiest woman on earth. If only she knew what you're truly capable of, sir.
Female PC:
{Irritated, but then happy recalling a pleasant memory - He's not happy with the player right now / Neutral}
If you must know, I was recalling the day that sir took you out for a little expectant mother pampering.
{Starts out neutral and gets more disgusted as he goes on - dislikes the player right now. / Disgust}
He told me no one deserved better. If only he knew what you're truly capable of, mum.
Source: Fallout Wiki (Codsworth.txt/COM)
***
Also, Codsworth was at the airport with player's spouse, awaiting you to return from duty/overseas. It's safe to assume that he served sole survivor's family for at least one year before the Great War.

Beatrix Russell's insights
Beatrix Russell, I'm sure most Fallout New Vegas players know her, but when was the last time y''ad a proper conversation with her? I should also say we ay gonna be analysing 'er recruitment into the Wrangler's employment 'ere or her sexual side (mostly, it'll come up a bit).
Beatrix's Advice
Beatrix offers a lot of insights into Freeside and also offers a few bits of advice. We'll start wi' those for structure all of these responses come from saying 'Got any advice to share?' I'll be honest wi' ya, the 'these are reffrence to X' I'm gonna be sayin' is jus' Wiki information. But I'll also provide me opinions on the quotes.
"Feed a man for free, and he'll be back asking for more. Feed a man a bullet. You won't hear from him again."
That's certainly true, and pretty applicable in the Wasteland, I s'pose.
"Good, bad... The guy with the gun makes the rules."
That's a reference to the movie Army of Darkness and the line 'Good...bad...I'm the guy with the gun.' and, apparently, that's also something John Browning said possibly? Reportedly, anyway. Still, also applicable in the Wasteland (and, if we go metaphorical, applicable to most authority). Personally, I think 'good' isn't applicable when anyone makes rules with the authority of 'gun'.
"Time you enjoy wasting isn't wasted time."
This is an adaption of the quote 'The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.' by Bertrand Russell. The wiki points out the fact that they're both B. Russells, which is pretty curious. The quote itself I agree with (naturally, I mean, why else would I be doin' this? Hahahaa.) and is probably important to consider as someone as old as Beatrix.
"The only thing I know for certain is that I don't know nothing."
That's a pretty famous one, even wi'out the Wiki tellin' me I know that's Socrates accordin' t' Plato. Let's not get too deep into this 'un. Unlike the last two I see no particular relevance to Wasteland life and, quite frankly, this isn't even advice, Beatrix.
"Longing makes the heart grow fonder, but I've always been a fan of hog-tying my lovers to make sure they can't escape."
I'm sure that's advice to people who're into that sorta thing, but I'm very much not the target audience for it (bein' a proud aroace repulsed at the very idea of engaging personally in such acts). Still, maybe someone over the years has gotten into BDSM because the Ghoul Cowgirl who's name rhymes with 'dominatrix' an' good for that 'ypothetical person.
So, in review, some advice that makes sense in the Wasteland, some philosophy and a bit of oversharing that I s'pose could work as foreshadowing of her future profession in a lot of playthroughs. Let's get t' the juicy stuff now, the reason I decided t' make this.
Beatrix's on the History Freeside
Yes, this is the excitin' part. We'll start wi' the start 'Tell me about Freeside.'
"What starts in misery tends to stay there. Freeside wasn't Freeside until six or seven years ago. That's when Mr. House's robots rolled out of the Lucky 38 and started pushing everyone who wouldn't join him off the Strip. Lots of folks died. Some scattered to the winds. The rest wound up in Freeside and seem never to lose the habit of living like refugees."
Things like this, it puts it all into perspective Freeside, The Strip, Hell even Westside and North Vegas Square am all recent developments. The walls an' divisions aren't even 10 years old. Robert Edwin House created modern New Vegas through violence. We have no idea how many people were killed by it, what 'a lot' means here, but think about it this way: there's a good chance that everywhere on The Strip that ain't the Lucky 38 were all inhabited by people who were either killed or displaced by House less than 10 years prior to the game. That is t' say The Tops, Gomorrah, The Ultra-Luxe, the NCR Embassy an' Military Police HQ and even Michael Angelo's Workshop all were potential homes to people who's lives are now lost to time.
There were people already in Freeside, the buildings and streets not claimed by House, that's why you'll meet many people who are 'Freeside Locals' and have been far longer than 7 years, but as Beatrix said, Freeside as we know it wasn't the Freeside before House. None of the three families lived in those casinos (the Boot-Riders weren't even stationary before becoming The Chairmen). The place was created in an act of miserable violence by House.
Beatrix's Views of Factions
Now for faction opinions. After hearing Beatrix's statements about Freeside's violent and very recent founding we can ask 'What about The Kings?'
"What about them? Pretty much the sort of gang you'd find anywhere else, just with better clothes. The King himself, though? He's got that something special you can't put a finger on. Too bad he likes girls with skin."
I'm not 100% sure if Beatrix knows that last part or presumes it, regardless she overall has a rather cynical view on The Kings as 'just another gang'. An', y'know, while they do have points over a lot of nastier gangs, I'm gonna guess 'Gang as de facto government' is a very common arrangement throughout the entire Wasteland. The Kings isn't the worst bunch in the world and The King is a flawed idealist, but its worst tendencies, encouraged by Pacer and its other more nationalistic and violent members certainly makes them not as clean as I'm sure many see 'em. Still, the gimmick is fun (I bet Beatrix even knows who Elvis is).
'What do you think of the NCR?'
"I reckon they care about getting water and electricity from the dam, and that's where it ends. The locals here are just an inconvenience to them, something to step over or stomp down. They're here for the resources, plain and simple."
Beatrix is correct. Here's a link to Colonel James Hsu sayin' as much an' gettin' called an imperialist bastard by me due to it.
'What's your opinion of Mr. House?'
"Before or after the human race shot itself in the foot? I been around long enough to have both opinions, see. Before the war, Mr. House was a famous captain of industry - robotics, to be specific. Seemed charming in interviews, until he became a recluse. Since the war, though? Didn't make a peep for near two hundred years - but when he came back, he came back strong and killed a lot of people."
Some stuff we already knew there. Unlike Raul, Beatrix is 100% convinced and aware about House bein' House. Beatrix don't actually say her opinion on modern House, but the implication in the way she highlighted that he killed a lot of people 7-8 years ago says all that needs t' be said. She also revealed that House preparing for the War was noticed by the public.
'What do you think of the Followers of the Apocalypse?'
"I don't know how they do it. They're like saints, those Followers. If they didn't charge for their services, I'd think they was crazy. But no, they're just naive. Warms your heart."
Beatrix is a bit of a cynical person, as one would expect from someone who saw the War, saw the next 200 years, saw Mr House's rise and is aware of the intentions of the NCR. So, it's nice to see her have a bit of fondness for the Followers even if she sees them as naïve.
'What do you know about the Van Graffs?'
"A couple of Radscorpions, those two. Gloria is the stable one, but she'd slit your throat if there's a profit in it. Or rather she'd tell her brother to do it for her. Jean Baptiste is one of the sicker humans I've had the displeasure of observing."
Hmm, pretty comprehensive view. Wonder if she ever did any work for the Van Graffs from this view. Prob'ly not, actually, I'm gonna guess she just means she's seen Jean-Baptiste bein' a monster, been in the Silver Rush or maybe she knew the original inhabitants of the Silver Rush who the Van Graffs did a Mr House to. The only other time she uses the term 'observing' there am some sexual undertones, but I reckon that's not 'er intent 'ere.
Conclusion
So, that was Beatrix's insights Freeside, Various Factions and... life, I guess. Some interestin' stuff, I think. An' 'opefully me own provided thoughts an' commentary 'as been int'restin'.

TODAY IN FICTION: Is it really George Jetson’s birthday? (🇺🇸1962)
Tumblr media
31st July 2022
Back when this blog was brand new, I reblogged a post claiming that given George Jetson was set to be born this summer, his parents must have successfully nastied about nine months ago, around Thanksgiving 2021. But as his apparent date of birth drew nearer, many more people and media outlets have picked up on the story and begun to pick it apart. The date given by the aforementioned post was the 27th August, and even back then I couldn’t find much evidence actually validating that date, but still chose to post about it because it was funny. But now in the interest of responsible journalism (lol) I’m afraid I must deliver some bad news.
George Jetson does not have a canonical birthday. Both the 31st of July and the 27th of August, the two most commonly quoted dates of birth, have their origins in unverified edits to the Jetsons fan wiki and Wikipedia respectively. In fact the edit war over this “fact” got so bad that George Jetson’s Wikipedia page is currently locked. We can at the very least say that the original 1962 incarnation of the character was born this year, in 2022. We know that he is 40 years old in the show, and we know that the show is set a hundred years in the future from 1962. So some easy maths gives us 1962 + 100 - 40 = 2022.
But there might be a good reason his birth has not heralded the arrival of the two hour work week and the flying car. In subsequent Jetsons media the series has firmly remained a hundred years in the future of whatever the current date is, most recently in 2017 which would give George Jetson a birthday some time in 2077. I wonder if future episodes of The Jetsons will ever explore George’s difficult childhood in the streets of Cyberpunk 2077′s Night City, or how the horrors of Fallout’s Great War of 2077 affected his traumatic upbringing.
With all that in mind, for lack of a better date, happy birthday George Jetson.

Oh got a division and ac game anon back to back
Here a dev bts on how they created dc
https://youtu.be/RBnC942-z5g?si=U9ulr2sHruVu1GV1
And here a comparison
https://youtu.be/nnyuWPikWts?si=Mwv19vekC9F0u7rT
Now I asked about the MLK library because I went “huh?” when I was sent to go there as I didn’t know it existed. There also a aero and space museum.
I also learn that division 2 executed the landscape of dc so well that a lot of people who visited, lived, or been there can walk around in game without every look at a map. Now keep in mind this was created to cash in on the looter shooter trend but still impressive
Didn’t we have a lot of museums and tourists traps in dc.
Now got assassin creed
https://x.com/assassinscreed/status/1779962935051202854?s=46
This exhibit make think of the collabs ac red can do with Japanese museums. Of course Ubi already went to the museums (actually I wonder how it feel like how to Japan. Doing exhibits and talk to historians and you need to make sure you don’t break the ndas?)
Now I vaugely knew, but learning about who Naeo historically dad is and the importance of Iga province is to ninja culture and boom they have ninja museum
In red I can totally seeing it (unless the Templars blow it up) the iga Provence being the main hub for the Japanese assassins. And I would have turn into the ultimate parkour experience like you can seeing assassins running atop rooftops, being trained, you can use secret tunnels and passageways
I would also make Ai programs of npc kids who are ninja trainees that you are see being taught or even use the pathways as you do
Oh sorry, now I’m thinking about a sidequest in the ninja village where a trainee (poorly) took something and you track him down and figure out what place he trying to escape out of. Only for you see him as he get out or put something a top of the exit until he admit he does it
He get reprimand, but it to make sure he don’t make the same mistakes when he become a full fledge ninja
Also my kids npcs training thing is meant to show that most ninjas were born and raised into ninja clans hence why it so difficult to learn about the ninjas as it was often family secrets or methods
In fact Naeo being part of a known ninja is probably going to tied her to this
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bansensh%C5%ABkai
TLDR, most ideas and foundations of the Shinobi image we know today is because the Fujibayashi clan created and edited the great ninja book for centuries
Side note I can’t really find a historical painting of Naeo father. Fujibayashi Nagato, hmm Ubisoft probably going to do a collab with the Ninja museum and probably make a model for Nagato
But it will be funny if I see hi res promotional images of nagato used for exhibit
Sorry rambling, please have a discovery tour for red ubi! Because I want to walk around Japan WITHOUT every animal wanting to kill me.
No stake in it, but the fallout 5 discourse is going to be FUUUUUUUN
Ya, never played the games or any of that and I know just enough to stay out of it and watch the fireworks.
They did a good job with the modeling on the DC stuff.
Now I asked about the MLK library because I went “huh?” when I was sent to go there as I didn’t know it existed. There also a aero and space museum.
Air and Space Museum is my fav part of the Smithsonian (shocking I know) managed to make it there a few times and just nerded out each time. Went to a private school through 8th grade and the 8th grade class does a trip to the eastern US namely the stuff in the DC area, Williamsburg, Gettysburg, and DC all that good stuff. I managed to wind up having people not from my school following the little group I was in there because I couldn't shut up about absolutely everything I saw and what it was.
I also learn that division 2 executed the landscape of dc so well that a lot of people who visited, lived, or been there can walk around in game without every look at a map. Now keep in mind this was created to cash in on the looter shooter trend but still impressive Didn’t we have a lot of museums and tourists traps in dc.
Very Impressive, and yes
Tumblr media
Haven't been to the Castle, American Art, Anacosta, and the African Art one. US mint does tours we did that and we went to Arlington National Cemetery see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Kennedy's grave, I managed permission to wander off with a friend so I could go visit my dad's parents who don't live there's graves.
Side by side in Arlington, they got their spots early, can't get that now.
Tumblr media
This looks rad
I would also make Ai programs of npc kids who are ninja trainees that you are see being taught or even use the pathways as you do
I'm having a "revenge of the sith" younglings moment in my head right now, 'Yasuke Sama are we in danger'
TLDR, most ideas and foundations of the Shinobi image we know today is because the Fujibayashi clan created and edited the great ninja book for centuries
Tumblr media
Interesting. I always figured the ninja you actually learn about were the ones that weren't good at ninjaing, best spy in the world is one that the only the person that gives them their assignments knows exists.
Side note I can’t really find a historical painting of Naeo father. Fujibayashi Nagato, hmm Ubisoft probably going to do a collab with the Ninja museum and probably make a model for Nagato
Japanese art was never too focused on being photo realistic anyhow so even a good one isn't likely to look like the dude.
But it will be funny if I see hi res promotional images of nagato used for exhibit Sorry rambling, please have a discovery tour for red ubi! Because I want to walk around Japan WITHOUT every animal wanting to kill me.
Should be interesting, and no worries I ramble all the time, even did it with my little personal tangent about DC in this ask, lol

Fallout 3: Metro Car Armor
We understand that there are some misconceptions about how the Presidential Metro in Broken Steel works.
The way the scene works is quite interesting and we felt that we should explain how it's actually achieved, through a series of short videos!
When the player activates the train, an armor named “DLC03MetroCarArmor” is added to the player's inventory after the white fade-in.
The armor is identical to the train visually. It is not a hat, but a Right Hand glove. It will appear above the player's head in third person and block the player's view entirely if a weapon is unholstered in first person.
A script package named “DLC03MetroCameraPackage” is added to the player. This plays an animation called “DLC031stPersonMetroCam.kf,” which is what actually makes the camera shake, as well as makes the player/train move.
It is not intended to be viewed in third person and activating the train will always force the player into first person.
The armor is assigned to the player's Right Hand slot because hand models are visible in First Person, while headwear is not.
When combined with the armor and its associated script package, the armor adjusts its position, giving the result above. The white fade-in serves to hide the armor model repositioning itself, while also disabling (removing the model from the map) the original train that the player activated.
The armor and the animation are designed and also rely on the player being in first person. If viewed in third person, the player and the train are turned sideways and looks incorrect.
Tumblr media
If you check the player's Right Hand in third person while the armor is equipped, their right hand will indeed become the train itself and thus, appear invisible.
Tumblr media
So, there you have it folks! We hope this explanation was in-depth and informative! It was really fun to look into and discover how the scene truly works.
We did have multiple videos recorded for this, but Tumblr only accepts 1 uploaded video at a time. :(
We've made a page for the armor as well, which you can read here:

Fallout TV show stuff, no real spoilers until under the cut.
Alright I think that irked me hardest was extremely front loaded and, going into episode 8 its grown on me a bit despite having elements that still kind of suck, yeah Fallout tv show is a solid like. 3 star experience.
They start doing slightly more novel ideas instead of lifting locations and plot beats directly from the games but it does overwhelmingly feel like Bethesda provided them with like. A list of "Things That Are [in] Fallout [as a brand franchise] [even if they're literally just Locations That Were In Fallout 3]" and they contractually had to hit literally every single one.
Brotherhood of Steel. Vault dweller protagonist. German Shepherd type dog. Referring to that dog as dogmeat. Bitter pre-war ghoul. Enclave. Town made of aircraft parts. Eccentric general store owner. Eccentric doctor. Eccentric radio host. Mr Handy. Cannibals. Vertibird. Bloody Mess. Radroach. Red Rocket. Super Duper Mart. Wasteland cult. The Fallout 2/3 vault dweller outfit. Assaultron. Reclaimation Day. Posed skeletons. [Urgh I guess the franchise has to canonically acknowledge fallout new vegas existed so...] cowboys. Courier. NCR. NCR rangers. Pre war computer chip mcguffin. Etc. Etc. Etc. Genuinely theres something several times a minute to a degree where its a great relief when they come up with Anything new to exist in the world.
Its frankly like they generated a word cloud from the wiki in a way that feels even beyond Star Wars "hey remember this??" tv show writing because it isn't remotely earned. These are things that are only 'iconic' on paper when you're trying to hit Name Recognition and Specific Preexisting Lore instead of Worldbuilding Themes.
Incidentally this is also the vibe of how Bethesda approached the franchise when adapting it from Black Isle's slightly goofy speculative society towns of hats sandbox (I don't buy into FO1/2 being cuttingly political or great satire, I like them but they're not that deep), and like, Bethesda is rife with it to the point of notoriety but its a bit of a trend with "franchise media" in general where its all rehash and little elaboration.
So far the only thing they've been at all coy about has been FEV which is Bethesda's fucking #1 fave thing for no reason so I suspect that's going to be a big gasp end of season twist for one if not several plot threads. Possibly to tease an entire Super Mutant Themed Sequel. Gr8.
Oh and, spoilers:
This is the second time of note that there's been a fan-beloved installment from a decade prior and they poochied it. Vvardenfell died on the way back to its home planet in Skyrim. NCR died on the way back to its home planet in this.
THAT feels like Bethesda being afraid to touch complex political implications and factions, and evolving worlds because they're too fiddly to satisfy everyone, sooo they just explode them off screen for wholly nostalgia based emotional impact and use the fact that they exploded as the central defining point for that group from then on.

Hello! I've gotten interested in James Talloran / Researcher Talloran but can only find 3999's entry. I'm also curious if he actually meets Draven Kondraki in any Tales. Any page you'd recommend I'd read?
Oh god dude I'm about to spring some of the most emotionally hard-hitting writing of the entire wiki on you so uh. Be prepared for that i guess and heed the content warnings.
Portraits of your father, Dravens introductory tale to the wiki, is about Benjamin Kondrakis suicide and about Draven and his partner James dealing with the fallout. It's visceral and devastating and I've yet to talk to anyone who wasn't deeply affected by it. James was later decided to be James Talloran, by both the authors of POYF and 3999. This sets a precedent for something you will continue to see with Talloran & Draven, which is them just straight up not having a good time.
(There is also the somewhat lighter Portraits of your family taking place in the same canon, which is about the Kondrakis a lot more than it is about Talloran but they are in it and it deserves a shoutout by virtue of making me think So Much)
Afterwards, there are I stared into the face of everything and nothing and The trouble with amnestics, which imagine an AU where Talloran survives 3999 somehow and them and Draven have to deal with everything that entails. And after those, there's the absolutely phenomenal ...Like Clockwork canon, which takes the concept of SCP-3999 being somewhat of a metaphor for the relationship of a creator and their creation and leverages it to tell a deeply personal story, on both ends.
There's a few other miscellaneous tales and cameo appearances floating around the wiki that you can find in Talloran and Dravens respective tag clouds, but those are the big ones I think. Also fun fact there's actually a hidden reference to Draven (among other things) in 3999s article that you can find by highlighting the weird gap in the wall of only only onlys and pasting it into a text editor.

Is Yuri Lowenthal in…
Fallout: New Vegas?
Yes! He is multiple characters in fact
(From the Fallout Fan Wiki) “Ringo, Lucius, Aurelius of Phoenix, Oliver Swanick, Henry Jamison, Elder Nolan McNamara, Lars Taggart, Fitz, Keller, Scribe Ibsen, Knight Lorenzo, Ike, Antony, Otho, Alexus and Sergio” and he voices the grunts made by the male courier.
If those names don’t ring bells, try thinking of the guy who runs at you screaming he won the lottery.
Tumblr media
That’s Lowenthal.

So I recently read the legends Grievous source material in case I was missing any neat little details. (I have been working off the Wiki for *checks watch* like 2 years now, which cites this source.) The only thing I have elected to uh bend the definition of is the authors repeatedly calling Kalee barren.
EU Authors: Kalee is a barren planet
Kaleesh: Kalee is barren to *YOU*. We know her resources. [Millions proceed to die in economic fallout lol]
Anyway, here is a 1k word think piece on why I think Kalee is inhospitable or savage in nature & economically insignificant, therefore described by outsiders as desolate or barren. Then how it is that the Republic embargos caused famine.
I think Kalee was in the midst of an ecological boom, in fact. The planet is covered in mostly ocean & jungles with a lot of room for animals to specify. Unfortunately, at some point it stopped being a free-for-all & it became a race. Animals were having to out-evolve their predators that were in turn trying to out-evolve everything else. This is how, by the time of modern Kaleesh, most of the accessible fish had become too toxic, bony, or otherwise dangerous to eat. The jungles were much the same & gave rise to many predators.
When the yam’rii arrived on Kalee, despite the ominous warnings or lack thereof from the rest of the system, they tried for a while to find any exploitable resource. Their many expeditions, some more ill-fated than others, eventually delivered disheartening data. The oceans were plagued by storms & inedible, dangerous creatures. Most if not all of the planet’s animals couldn’t be reliably farmed en masse. All of Kalee’s jungle flora & fauna had very specific adaptations making them dangerous to cut down & impossible to reliably export as exotic. The rock of the planet was brittle & also did poorly in space cargo. Any seams of minerals were sparse & unreliable. The northern mountains were impassable & even the winds on the steppes were not predictable.
All in all, a total loss for any industrial scale profit. The only things that seemed to do well on the planet were its primitive native sentients: The Kaleesh. The Kaleesh were low on the civilization scale, with no developed technology of their own to speak of. However, the Yam’rii noted that Kaleesh were very hardy, capable of learning, hardworking, & they did make a lot of themselves. Bonus: they laid eggs, which the Yam’rii might literally kill each other for. So, with enthusiasm, the Yam’rii switched from expedition mode to specimen collection mode. The Kaleesh were not the first people that they would round up to sell on the galactic slave market, nor would they be the last.
Needless to say over just two generations the population of free native kaleesh plummeted considerably. It took the kaleesh a while to catch on because they were just minding their own business doing kaleesh things (killing each other & hunting). Some yam’rii would even trade with tribes & communities before striking them.
When Grievous & the Izvoshra really got going not only did they force yam’rii off the planet, they also freed all of the imprisoned kaleesh they could find. Once the yam’rii became scarce the kaleesh population had a bit of a boom while Grievous extended his wrath to nearby planets. Any kaleesh freed from off-world colonies either joined the warlord’s army or went back home. Most of the planets Grievous descended upon were grateful for the assist & opened up trade with the kaleesh. There was almost a decade of trade & population flourishing while their god of war pursued the bugs back to their home planet.
And then the Republic did the thing. Nearly all extraplanetary trade was cut off & what wasn’t was taxed heavily. Kalee’s neighboring planets, while some remained grateful, none were willing to stick their necks out for them in opposition to the Grand Republic. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Kalee’s economy, tied tightly to their ecology. Kaleesh could only trade what they could make & they could only make so many.
The creeping desperation for food & goods to hold up communities with bloated population quickly led to scarcity & starvation. The smugglers that Grievous could convince to go that far out found kaleeshi goods sold quite well as exotic & many would form poaching gangs, further exacerbating the problem. The Intergalactic Banking Clan showed up & made a lot of promises, scaring most of the smugglers away.
Still, many kaleesh populations & native animals became extinct during this time. Many warlords saw no choice but to return to raiding their neighbors & there was a sharp rise in cannibal cults. Surviving kaleesh were largely malnourished & would succumb to things that, before, could be recovered from. Things like egg delivery, illnesses, & serious injuries. While they had benefitted from off-world stims & bacta kits in the years before, they were cut off from modern medicine abruptly. At least it hadn’t been so long as to lose traditional practices but still. Not a great time to be on Kalee.
Older kaleesh became even more xenophobic, crediting the opening of trade to this era when kaleesh began taking more than they needed from the land to please the outsiders. On the other hand, younger kaleesh became more inclined to find work off-world. During the Imperial era Kalee was recovering & still trying to find balance.
