Any memorable bits from Rafael and Ronen's meetings? 🙏🏻

I think most stuff has already been shared but there's this one thing that has stuck with me and it's ronen talking about the soulmate scene in 4x16. When TK says "I might not even remember who you are" and his voice breaks? that was all ronen. he shared that he lost his grandmother to alzheimer and one of the things he fears most in life is exactly that, forgetting about the people he loves, so that line would hit him right in the chest and break him every. single. take. and he just couldn't keep it together.

and then he lightened the mood and said you need to be very comfortable with your scene partner to be able to smear tears and snot all over their faces like in that scene lol

Gosh I ADORE his original outfit from Tales and for now, mostly drew it but, if I have to say in which he looked best,,,

There is a reason why he has this outfit on display in New Tales,,,, like he looks so GOOD in this???? I feel the vest might be a bit of a nod to Handsome Jack but like, him having confidence to show at least a bit of his tattoo is such a power move and I am so sad none of the future versions yet had done that again :((((( but I plan on drawing him more and explore his outfits :]]

thoughts on the advice lana gave debs? cause i was thinking about when fiona and v were arguing and fiona says "not staple a photo of her (debbie) tits to a poll with her phone number beneath it like your wife told her to do!" and svet says "she has a good chest she should use it" that was just like oh! okay! cause debs was a minor. i assume it was cause of everything svet went through as a kid so she thought it wasnt a big deal. but what are your thoughts?

That scene is odd to me because that is not at all what Svetlana suggested that Debbie do? Her advice was for Debbie to find a husband, not to publicly post a photo of herself. The way that I interpret that line is that Svetlana was just being defensive because Fiona was coming at her, and Fiona has a history of being rude and condescending towards Svetlana.

Putting that aside, does Svetlana even know how old Debbie is? I doubt that she does. Though, in all honesty, I’m not sure that it would make a difference. Svetlana’s history has given her a very warped view of sexuality and what is and isn’t age appropriate.

I’m reminded of the scene where Debbie shares with Mandy that she’s been hanging out with a 20 year old guy and Mandy reacts by being impressed and suggesting that she send him a racy photo. They (Svetlana, Mandy, every single main character on this show tbh) just don’t know any better.

Ian didn’t see his relationship with Kash as a big deal, Lip didn’t acknowledge the power imbalance between him and Helene, Karen’s own mother didn’t find it inappropriate that she married a 40 year old man, Mickey didn’t think that a female teacher having an affair with an underage student was rape (I think he also said what that girl did to Carl wasn’t rape?), Mandy thought the concept of statutory rape was archaic, Svetlana never labeled what her father or Yvon did to her as rape.

This ignorance colors each and every one of their views on any situation that implicates these topics, which is why the comments that they make, and they advice that they often give regarding these sorts of things, tends to be so shit.

Ranma? May I ask how you got into that? Who's your favorite character? What's your favorite ship? What's your favorite ship for Ranma? (Fanon or canon is fine)

Oh boy. Okay here we go

1. It was the year 2003. My uncle, who was my family’s version of “that eccentric who lives in the Big City and has Connections” at the time, was visiting us poor north-western plebs in late summer. He was always big on cartoons. He collected The Phantom, Hardy Boys, Donald Duck, and so on and so forth - so we kids associated him with cartoons to read. Uncle was even friends with a magazine editor lady, so he usually got his cartoon batches at discounts.

This particular afternoon I wanted to read his Nemi magazine. Nemi was cool. It’s a still-running, monthly cartoon magazine about a silly goth chick and her shenanigans - it wasn’t actually in my age group, being like eight at the time, bc Nemi dealt with sex, drugs and uuuh, irresponsible adult behavior lol. But it also focused on environmentalism, human kindness and funny everyday moments. And it wasn’t like my family monitored my reading material much anyway.

As I reached for the magazine, in my grandparents’s living room, a small pamphlet fell out, and to the floor. It was a bright orange front, with a character in black-and-white. It introduced itself as being a ‘manga’, a series that would launch the coming autumn, and this was a free sneak peek of chapter one that came with every purchase of Nemi. I picked it up out of curiosity. And it was hilarious, I loved it.

Some weeks later, after school resumed, I spotted a bright orange pocket on the magazine shelves at the grocery store. I remember pacing back and forth, bc I wasn’t very good at asking for things as a child if they cost money, I was very money aware you could say. But the pocket was 49 crowns so I dared pick it up and held it in front of my father with “can I pls” eyes.

The rest is history.

2. Akane. Gimme the body-insecure, bumbling, temperamental lil baby who is so much more like teenage girls in her behaviour than any of the other female cast.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

Velvette: Her attitude and looks. Seriously, girl is serving. Even though it is immature at times, I just love her overall aura and aesthetic. Plus, I love how observant we see her being in the bit of time she gets on screen and the fact that her looks change so frequently, which speaks to her position as a trendsetter and fashion designer.

Carmilla: Like Velvette, I like her attitude, but for different reasons. She's clearly been in position for awhile and that reflects in the way she conducts herself. I also love how she will literally murder for her family. I have a thing for protective characters who are also secretly soft with certain people (in this case, her daughters).

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

Velvette: Oh, geez. I guess I never thought about it much. Maybe something akin to Project Runway/Rainbow where I could see her being a great judge.

Carmilla: This is super obvious, but considering Striker is mentioned as having a Carmine-crafted rifle, it would be cool to see her in Helluva Boss. I know it will never happen, but the idea intrigues me.

5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?

Other than their respective songs from the show:

Velvette: Shameless by Camilla Cabello, but that's because I ship her with an OC of mine and it reflects that.

Carmilla: Sexy Bitch by David Guetta ft. Akon, for... reasons. I'm simping respectfully.

6. What's something you have in common with this character?

Velvette: Hmmm... Fashion, I suppose. Not in that we dress the same, but enjoy creating it (even if I just do sketches).

Carmilla: Not much, actually. The only thing I got is that we're protective of and will go to bat for those we care about.

(This is my favourite Velvette look (Planning to cosplay it eventually!). And I just love the attitude you can see in her everything here).

Velvette: We haven't seen many side of her, but in some ways, Velvette reminds me of early Carla Delgado. Like, season one through mid season two where she was more ornery and disrespectful before Ash happened and she chilled out.

Carmilla: No one, honestly. Like, she has traits in common with other fandom characters, but I can't peg just one character from a fandom I've been in as being similar. Or I'm just blanking right now.

The only age discourse I care about is that for me it makes no sense for Khun to be 17. He helped Maria to become a princess! Even if Endorsi was chosen a few centuries ago and waited to enter the tower while Maria is the newest princess, how did the princess selection go that fast? You're telling me than in a few years at most he met Maria, helped her win, got kicked out of the family, and followed her in the tower? Princess selections must be rare and huge, no way it can all happens so fast.

If Khun is indeed 17, that's all the more crazy seeing the average age of people of the tower. He's a crazy prodigy teenager. Not even 30 and already giving orders to high rankers. That makes no sense but I admit it's funny as hell if true

There was such confusion between translations that I honestly hadn't given the idea that much thought/hadn't followed the debate that closely.

If he really had been that young, my response would have been along the lines of "good for him lol" because that kind of achievement is almost funny at that age. It's doubtful that its true, agreed, but we don't really know the timeline on Endorsi's selection either; SIU doesn't give the timeline that much detail.

You're probably right in that Khun's not that young, but even if he is, I don't think it would make any difference shipping-wise since there's a five-year timeskip after S1 anyway.

22. Headcanons for [character]

I have a full google doc full of silly headcanons for him lol. If I had to pick my favourite of those, it’s that when he was a kid he definitely always had his nose in a book! like I’m talking reading during class, reading at recess, reading with a flashlight under the covers way past his bedtime, etc.

another headcanon I have for him is that it took him forever to realize he wasn’t straight. to me he’s like bi or pan, but I think he probably went through years of just assuming that because he was still attracted to women everyone felt attracted to both and you were just meant to choose to only date the opposite sex. I also headcanon him as on the ace spectrum (maybe specifically demisexual), but I don’t think he would ever realize it. especially with being raised catholic and the heavy emphasis on waiting til marriage to have sex, he probably just thinks that feeling no sexual desire until he’s really close with someone is normal

Oh wow, how long has it been since our last post? Nearly seven months you say? Well I can say that both mods are in fact alive and well haha. Both of our lives are pretty crazy with us still in school and just other life events, but fear not! We have not forgotten our little ask blog even if we haven’t posted in over half a year 😭

As you may have noticed this response was not the most serious one in the world, trying to keep everything 100% serious and in character has definitely not helped us reach our full creative potential, so with some of our responses we may not try to make it perfect so that we can at least make it something and not leave the ask in our inbox forever simply because we feel like it isn’t perfect. 

Thank you to everyone who stayed with us during our radio silence, I hope in the future we’ll be able to keep up with this blog a little more actively 💜

They're trying really hard to make Carlos the villain this season uh

see this is interesting cause what you see as them making carlos a villain, I see as them making him imperfect, real and relatable.

also general words of advice to live a show better:

let's not jump to conclusions before having even watched an episode

let's not put characters on pedestals and then be disappointed when they obviously don't meet up our ridiculously high expectations

remember that this all fiction

That being said I think carlos' reasoning from that 2 minutes clip is totally and absolutely valid. It felt like a not yet not a hard no and even if it was, it would still be as valid. But knowing him, it definitely feels like his reasoning goes deeper and is more rooted to how he is as a person, his insecurities, his fears of not being enough and of becoming like his father and also to the example of parenthood he had. All things that can be traced to what his first mechanism of defense is: deflecting and not communicating. Let alone the fact this man thought of himself as a project and as someone who would never find real love until like yesterday so his motivation is very understandable to me. He's just imperfect, not a villain.

What are your thoughts on this scene?

Because at first I had assumed she just wanted him home because she wanted help with yev

But it’s her face right here that makes me think it could of been more than that

Was she worried about him? I need to know.

I'm going to be honest I don't remember what happened in this episode outside of this scene. Was Mickey in some sort of trouble? I don't remember thinking that she was worried about him.

The way I read this scene is that Svetlana wanted help with Yevgeny, yes, but more importantly she wanted Yevgeny to have a father. Family is important to Svetlana, and she didn't have any of her own in America, so she was counting on Mickey to be there for him. We know that she was already contemplating the kind of person that Yevgeny would turn out to be at this point, and I think that she was worried about how it would affect him if he grew up without his father in his life (and without any other family but herself).

Svetlana loves Yevgeny more than anything; she didn't just want him to survive, she wanted him to be happy and feel loved and cared for as well. I think that she wanted to provide him with one of the few good things she had in her childhood and felt guilty about not being able to do so.
