#fandom grumbling

The GO fandom are insufferable and I’m not watching 0FMD out of spite… but tbh I’m just glad they don’t actively hate women in the same way some older fandoms did like sh*rlock and s*pern*tural fandoms did irreparable damage.

But I guess the more frustrating part is that newer fandoms do have well written female characters where were the older ones…didn’t. They just wilfully ignore them in fandom.

G.O. was massive disappointment to me, because I love the book. But I could not get over large chunks of side character content- especially Anathema, but the Them and the Witchfinder Army too -being cut to make it more the All Az and Crowley, All The Time show. Also the narration. MY GOD. It's like they didn't trust the audience to have more critical thinking skills than a toddler! It was like, "The M25 was cursed. It was cursed because Crowley made it the shape of this sigil. The sigil is cursed. Crowley is now stuck on the M25, which is bad, because it is shaped like a cursed sigil. He did that!" etc.

But yes, not being actively misogynistic is a step up. I am aware that all those shows do HAVE female characters- well-written ones, even!

It's just. Yeah. As you say, the fandoms seem to be full of Pretty Men, or Genderfluid Beings Who Almost Always Present And Are Read As Men and Whose Actors Are Cis Men, and not much else. And people can do what they want, and it's just fandom, and you don't have to engage with female characters unless they strike the Blorbo Spark in you. I would never try to make someone do something in fandom they didn't want to!

(I don't feel like writing a whole thing about it, but claiming that Vision was abusive to Wanda is absolutely absurd and by the way? I could cherry pick panels of Simon and Clint and yes! Of Pietro! To try and make it seem like they're abusive. But doing that would be, y'know, disingenuous and/or a thoughtless reading of the text.

Vision and Wanda argued sometimes. That doesn't make either of them abusive. Vision was hurt and angry about being brutally killed because of Wanda. That doesn't make him abusive. And as for being written by Tom King ... We as a society need to learn to ignore Tom King, because anytime he's written someone in character it's frankly been an accident.)

What online comic book fans use "bad writing" to mean: The story didn't do what I wanted it to and I'm mad about it.

I couldn't find a place to organically work this specific complaint into Addressing the Acual Elephant but it still really bugs me that, when confronted with a rampaging, glowing white elephant that appears to be made out of light, the one and only person anyone suggests calling for back-up is, specifically, Tim's ex, the college freshman with a decent right hook but no exceptional talents to speak of.

And not, y'know. SIGNAL. The guy on the Bat-payroll with the metahuman ability to control light. Who might have some insight on how to stop an entity made of light. Or at bare minimum be able to use his ability to see a few seconds into the future to help them drive the rampage away from anything that might be potentially important or dangerous.

Like at least they're being honest about their pandering from the word go but still. Annoying lack of logic is annoying.

When Aaron realises after 3 years of dating and 1 being married, that you still have him saved as “Hotch”

“Do you hear it,” you call out towards the living room, your husband’s phone in your hand calling your own, as you walk from the kitchen to the dining room. You were both just about to leave for dinner at Rossi’s when you had realised you had no idea where your phone was.

“Got it.” You follow the sound of the deep voice into the living room as you end the call on your husband’s phone, to find one Aaron Hotchner frowning down at the device in his his hand. He turns as you enter the room, holding your phone up as he tilts his head to a side and raises a brow.

“Hotch?” He questions and you can’t help but giggle as you approach him, hand reading out for your phone, only to have him hold it higher and out of your reach.

“Why am I still saved as Hotch?” He questions again as you tip toe, reaching up for your phone, but to no avail as it hovers in his hand, firmly out of your reach.

“Thats your name,” you shrug as you opt for winding your arms around his body, chin resting on his chest as you look up into the serious brown eyes staring down at you.

“We’ve been dating for 3 years, married for 1, and I’m still Hotch?” Even with disbelief etched into his features, he is gorgeous.

“Mhmmm,” you smirk as you slide your hands into the back pockets of his jeans, pressing yourself closing against him.

“No one would think I’m your husband. They would just think I’m your boss.” He grumbles as he presses the side button to key in your password, with you still pressed against his chest. “I’m changing it.”

all the continued little jokes about how 'armand is presenting a fake version of his history where lestat was suuuper into him teehee what liar.' lestat literally said he any attraction he felt for anyone before armand was a fleeting shadow compared to what he felt for him and he only understood desire after they met. but ok. 'armand is the only person in the universe lestat doesn't want to fuck.' lestat choses not to be with armand because of being violated and betrayed, but he rejects armand - by which i mean, doesn't just tell him no, but tells him he's disgusting and that he could never love him - specifically as a way to hurt armand and get back at him. because lestat is spiteful and does not care if it makes him miserable to send armand away (and it does), so long as he can even the score and regain the upper hand. but yeah armand is just pathetic and making up a kiss because lestat thinks he's gross.
