I know "60s housewives who invented slash fanfiction" has taken on a life of its own as a phrase, but Kirk/Spock didn't really exist until the 70s and THOSE WOMEN HAD JOBS. They were teachers and librarians and bookkeepers and scientists and they damn well spent their own money going to conventions, printing zines, buying fanart and making fandom happen. Put some respect on their names.

"Yagami Light as a youtuber would probably plagiarise" WRONG Yagami Light is insanely intelligent and looks down on literally every single other human person, he would rather stab himself in the eye than using the works of someone else - someone who can't be anything but beneath him. Pre-Death Note youtuber!Light would make long-ass videos about Everything Wrong With Society with completely unhinged takes about how xyz small innocuous thing is responsible for gang violence with numbers* to back it up.
"Light would plagiarise" get the fuck out of here.
*numbers which he completely twists to his own bias - without even knowing it because he thinks way too highly of himself

on “Zutara is a colonizer x colonized ship”
“Colonizer” is not an ontological category. It’s a role within a specific geopolitical power dynamic, and therefore it can change — or even cease to exist — when these geopolitical power dynamics change (like when, idk, a Gaang of teenagers overthrow a genocidal imperialist colonial regime to install a new monarch who vows to stop the genocide and imperialism and colonization and bring about an era of love and peace)
I know it’s a bad faith anti argument, but it bothers me more than most anti Zutara arguments because I think it is indicative of a very pessimistic, defeatist attitude about power relations in general. Any type of oppressor is not a fixed role. It’s subject to change, and indeed ATLA’s message is that it’s your obligation — and your right, your power — to fight for that change, even if you’re just a ragtag group of kids against a whole empire. Calling Zuko a colonizer is not only a baffling misunderstanding of what colonization is, it also implies that even when you successfully challenge and restructure oppressive power dynamics, old sins cast long enough shadows that there is nothing you can do to be free of them. It’s one thing to acknowledge the complexities of a close relationship with someone who used to benefit from your oppression (indeed that’s kind of the whole arc of The Southern Raiders where Katara confronts the ways in which she has projected the trauma of her mother’s murder at the hands of the Fire Nation onto Zuko, who is now a valued ally). It’s quite another to claim that neither of you can ever escape the ontological categories of oppressor vs victim even if you’ve both changed the world.

first the pirate poll drama and now the stucky fans are frothing at the mouth lmao. literally i think everyone just hates the ofmd fandom bc they want what we have (queer queer romance written by a diverse writers room that actually cares about the characters and the story they're telling)

was thinking about it and realized another Lovely idea for sally !
ocd, right. shes got it. a lot of her intrusive thoughts surround other people, but when her and lightning starr dating nd get married and everything, everything just gets.. so much worse.
every race, all she can think about is him crashing and dying. it’s an impossible thought for her to avoid - i mean, obviously, its an intrusive one - but even after the race is over she Cant shake it. instead, her mind moves onto “what if this is just a hallucination and he really Did crash and die during the race, and im just so grief stricken that i dont realize this isnt real?”
she never brings these thoughts up to him - maybe after he eventually chooses to retire - but she already struggles with the fact they just exist, she couldnt have him being Aware of their existence too.
all race, every race, she sits in the pits with her headphones on and her stomach fills with dread while she watches him drive. she puts her head down, closes her eyes, presses her hand against her heart, and takes deep breaths, and nothing makes them stop. in reality, they just get a hundred times worse as time passes, and she’ll get very physically distressed about it. she taps Her Pattern into anything that makes noise, whether it be the metal of the pit box or just tapping hard into her own skin on her leg, and she Counts. and she does it over and over again because Sometimes it brings her peace knowing that doing this means shes “lessening the chances” of him crashing and getting hurt.
but, like i said, these dont go away easy. after a race, later that night when theyre dozing in the motorhome, she’llmpress her head against his chest and cling to him like a lifeline. sally will fall asleep to the sound of his breathing and his consistent heartbeat, and she Cant bring herself to let go of him.
eventually she does bring these thoughts up to doc, and hes understanding. he tells her theres nothing wrong with it, theyre just Thoughts, and she isnt manifesting anything. it doesnt help much again, but doc wasn’t necessarily trying to tell her its impossible. instead, he picks up on her distress in the pits and teaches her car-lingo so she can understand if lightning is saying somethings wrong with the car. he’ll wrap his arm around her shoulder in that Dad way and promises her nothings gonna happen to him, he’ll be Fine.
imagine when lightning crashes in cars 3 and doc Isnt there to console her.

Kinda got a love/hate relationship with the history of K/S because it's like. Can I please have a queer discussion about this 1960s television show without it being reduced to "shipper discourse". I thought Spock and Kirk were homo long before I knew that their characters spawned a fanfiction counterculture. The bisexual dude who wrote the episode that really kick-started the movement didn't know it was going to coalesce into the fan phenomenon that it did, he was just writing what he knew how to write best: the repression of burning male desire, and two dudes doing homoerotic shit. Can I just talk about the repressed burning male desire please, and the implications of a gay angle to Kirk and Spock's story, without it being referred to as shipper discourse. Can I do that. Does this make sense

PIN-UP ARTISTS, CHECK YOUR EMAILS!
Tumblr media
We’ve sent confirmation emails to the lucky 26 artists who pounced on this event.
Why yes, that number went up from 24 to 26! We decided to go with 13 month calendars in order to give more people a chance to participate!
Your emails are full of all sorts of event details. Please look them over before DMing us with questions. 85% of your answers are already there.
We are absolutely amazed by the artist's response to this event! We thought it might be popular, but none of us thought we would fill up the calendar in less than one day!
BUT WAIT, NEW ARTISTS CAN STILL PARTICIPATE!
While the calendar itself is full, we still have room in the Zine/Ao3 collection! The only difference is that your art won’t be in the print calendar.
Click here to join us and create Pin-Up art for the reverse bang!
WHAT ABOUT THE WRITERS?
Spirk writers, you are in for a TREAT! Between the calendar and Zine-exclusive space we’ve already recruited 30 artists eager to create Pin-Ups of our beloved Kirk and Spock!
We have twelve writers signed up so far. That’s really good for one day! We need more Spirk fanfic writers to create stories for the incredible Pin-Up art. Come join the campy fun!
Click here for FAQs and sign-ups for this event!

Meet-Ugly Writing Prompt: Interminable Intercom
okay so this is based not-so-loosely on real life events, and has been banging around my brain as a fun little writing prompt ever since. i might make a character-specific post with it at some point, but wanted to get the general concept out there.
-
Character A lives in an old af apartment building that has no on-site staff, where all the apartment entrances are in the building's interior, which you can only access through the locked main entrance doors. Each resident gets one key.
The entrance doors have an ancient intercom next to them. This intercom technically works, but the process of getting your phone number set up with it is so inconvenient that many residents do not bother.
If you lose your entrance key after hours, you are kind of SOL until business hours, when you'll have to pay a hefty fee for the management company to bring you a new key.
One evening, late, Character A gets a call from the intercom. They can't hear very well - again, ancient - but didn't have anything scheduled for delivery, and manage to catch that someone got locked out. They decide to be a good neighbor and press the button on their phone to open the main entrance door, then hang up, thinking nothing else of it.
However... it keeps happening. This Character B motherfucker must be the most forgetful or unlucky idiot to walk the earth, because they are constantly losing their key, and calling the one number on the intercom that always picks up. Maybe Character A is a homebody, maybe they work from home, but whatever it is, they're reliable. And no matter how annoyed they get about it, they can't bring themself to just leave someone stranded out there. And also, how could they make them stop? Neither of them knows what the other looks like, and Character A doesn't even know what apartment Character B is in!
-
anyway, what happens next is of course totally up to the writer. are there fun identity shenanigans when they bump into each other in the laundry room or by the mailboxes and don't know it? does character a finally put their foot down? does character b find a way to stop losing their damn key?

Screaming Into The Void
Maybe I’m just tired, but I have to air this out before I take out this frustration on real world problems and people who don’t deserve it.
Maybe I’ll regret it. I dunno. Just-
Okay. Look. I get it. I get it! I get that a wholesome Lou being an endlessly supportive and devoted father is some of the the best, most fluffiest writing ever and I can’t help but bookmark that kind of material every time because MAN it’s a fluffy take on his character and I FEAST on it- BUT! BUT!
That. Does NOT. Make. IT CANON.
For those in the back-
THAT. DOES NOT. MAKE. IT CANON.
Random AU? Absolutely. Creative iteration? You go for it!
Ten years in the future type AU where you acknowledge that he’s made mistakes but he’s trying? Full support!
I swear to you now, I eat that kinda character development up.
But the second- THE SECOND- that you act like he’d make a better father to the 2012 kids than their own dad? During canon series events or even just a few months after the movie? Acting as if he has never been neglectful and has zero faults while entirely making him the opposite of canon because “the 2012 need a better dad who lets them be brothers instead of soldiers” like WHAT?
I promise. I am burning that book. (Mentally, obvs)
You wanna fix it? Tell us you have an AU Lou who would better take care of them. That you’ve created a Splinter based on your favorite parts from the Rise Splinter that they deserve. Even go as far as claim that the brothers will immediately realize how much less ignored or belittled they feel under the AU Lou’s care.
But DO NOT act like you’re writing a canon character.
Watch the shows. Both of them.
And stop pretending that Lou is everything that Yoshi should be.
