How I imagine Gilear Faeth at all times

The rapid flanderization of Gilear is so fucking funny. Like his first interaction with Fig leans his character into the "tired and kind of an asshole but still loves his kid" trope and then he just like... devolves into pure pathetic-ness so quickly and so extremely that on rewatches I'm always caught off guard.

Flanderization is usually seen as a bad thing (I've only seen it referenced in a negative light but that might just be me), but it works so well with Gilear that I'm always thinking "what new low has he hit since we've seen him last" with such joy. What a man.

I know that we had established Gilear turning his life around in Sophmore Year and Seven, but him having vaguely Good Luck is honestly disturbing. It's like the world got misaligned somehow I don't trust it.

I’m so torn with the idea of Gilear having been cursed because on one hand it flies in the face of “he’s not cursed he’s just a guy” and “some people have to be normal”

But on the other hand I find it deeply amusing that in the world of spyre there is just so many concurrent dnd campaigns going on that having an ancestral curse is so normal and commonplace that the wild coincidence of the bad kids having three different unconnected connections to Ankarna can happen.

Like imagine being Gilear and finding out that the armor which created the curse that has haunted your family line for generations is owned by the guy your wife cheated on you with and your ancestor is trapped in your daughter’s classmate’s mother’s chest.

Both statements are true. He is just some guy and he’s cursed.

The fact that Fabian’s nightmare is to be exactly like Gilear and yet when you look at both of their romantic lineups:

It is literally identical. Like I hate to break it to you pirate boy but the man you supposedly despise and desperately fear becoming is literally just as into toxic elf women as you are.

imagine you decide to go on the most awkward group holiday trip ever, like your kid’s friends and their parents, and literally everyone has relationship drama and situationships like at least one person you used to date and two people you’ve turned down are there guaranteed, and your kid and their friends have all gone to visit their friend’s ex/situationship’s corporate religious retreat and then suddenly like four gods are mad and someone is maybe dying and apparently the kids are all trapped in an extradimensional portal?? and then they just go to hell???? and you’re still stuck on this awful fucking trip just stuck in a room with these other parents and their goddamn relationship drama as you wait to hear back from your kid who, again, is in hell
