📸 FLASHBACK TO FATBACK 🚌 🛑 Four years ago interviewing the brilliant Bill Curtis of Fatback Band, which was possibly our first time chatting with one of our musical heroes. We still love speaking to the artists behind our favourite tunes, more to come in 2020! There’s no doubt we’ll be dropping his big hit ‘I Found Loving’ next Friday at our Valentine’s Special @CLFArtCafe - Love Is In The Flare! No matter what you do in life believe in what you’re doing. If you can see it you can achieve it. And now for the classics... one of those songs we came up on that defies boundaries. It os a bboy classic. It’s also a Paradise Garage Larry Levan staple. It was a roller boogie banger and a studio 54 Kenny Carpenter jam as well. This was also never a “Hit” song per se but always gets people moving. It was and is however an undisputed NYC classic. Come here this and other gens this Sat @mayfairhotella whe. @houseshoes and myself are joined by Boombox’s own @inka_one all 45s all night no hassles just good vibes! #FatbackBand #LittleRecords #45life (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7HLfnugHt0/?igshid=7lu7wt2o16ls
The Fatback Band (Are you Ready)Do The Bus Stop: This songs second life is bizarre. This 1975 disco boogie classic was one of many Bus Stop songs. The Bus Stop was a dance if you were not aware. There was this jam, The Chicago Bustop by Sal Soul Orchestra a disco classic and the Bumpin Bustop by Thunder and Lightening amongst many others. The Bustop is basically the Line Dance FYI. The 2nd life for this song started when the failed Netflix show The Get Down recreated the tune with the lead Sara Ruba renaming it Sugar. This song was a semi hit and Europe while the show tanked. Fast forward a year and Chaka Khan is working on a new record and gets hipped to this song and bong she hops in it and creates the song Like Suga which whole sale uses this original which she apparently was very familiar with and the song becomes a big dance hit in Europe not so much in America and hence this song is given an entirely new life its 3rd. The original is the A side of the @xplargepro sampled Gotta Learn How To Dance used for Streets Of New York. Funny how this record has been re discovered and to think I bought it for the b side 20 years ago right? As for the Fatback band there lengthy criminally under valued career is a story in and of itself. There classic breaks include Going to See my Baby, I found Lovin, King Tim The 3rd, Yum Yum, Wiki Waki, Let The. Drums Speak and many others. When I first started to really dig along with James and The Meters they were one of my go to sources, do the knowledge and know your roots! #FatbackBand #Bustop #NYC #SuperDiscoBreakin’ (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/BotwU6iBDfq/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=o3fq9w891kip
