plagued by thoughts abt berserk now that i've exorcised most my rage over the rampant miss o'ginny. it's 2am and i'm like Oh griffith is the character of all time he is fully aware that he is in a story but he doesn't realize that this story is not The Story which is guts' story that is being written by miura but also the story the godhand is writing. and The Story yanks him out of his story (a dream) and he comes out so mangled on the other end that he has no choice but to literally destroy the body that was his story and everyone who was in it EXCEPT the people who already had a foot out of his story because they belonged to The Story. all because guts tried to walk out of his story which forced them both irretrievably into The Story!!! fantastic entry into the trapped within the narrative genre

yes yes characters doomed by the narrative always slap BUT what about characters saved by the narrative? characters who have already given up hope and don't know they have a happy ending? characters who believe they are a lost cause, characters who feel irredeemable, characters who think there's nothing left for them, but the narrative does provide a way out? what about the characters who don't expect anything good, who don't even remember how to wish for it anymore, who get the things they need anyway? what about the characters who actively run from being saved getting saved in a way they can't stop or control. what about being saved by the narrative!!!

hopeless time loop. the way out isn’t to save everyone. the way out isn’t to save even one person. the way out isn’t to change anything. the way out is accepting how it happened the first time is how it always will be. that’s how you acted, that’s how they acted, that’s how you would have acted every time if you weren’t given the curse of hindsight. the way out is accepting you can’t fix the past; you can only forgive yourself for it.

Ned being in the Pine Guard is so funny and interesting to me because like
Duck and Aubrey are both inexplicably intertwined with Sylvain. The threads of fate have been pulling them toward Sylvain and the Pine Guard since they were born. Duck through Minerva, Aubrey through having the essence of Sylvain inside her. No matter how hard they tried to run from it, they were always going to end up there.
Meanwhile Ned accidentally met Bigfoot, and now he's here, too.

I was thinking about why Zayne’s alternate personas were not also healers, since in most games, characters are usually slotted into one role
And since our Zayne is a doctor, following gaming logic, all his other personas should be healers too. But this is not the case, especially not with Dawnbreaker, who is the complete opposite of a healer
Then I realized that all his personas are people who are well-respected
Doctors are highly respected in modern/future society, with Zayne full-assing it to become the fucking chief cardiac surgeon, as well as being known outside of his hospital as a genius in the medical world
Foreseer is revered as the being closest to god, who people pilgrimage to in order to beg for his wisdom and foresight
Master, from what I can see from the preview, is some kind of priest and protector of the shrine/mountain in which a god (MC?) resides. He also displays divination powers that I have no doubt would make him even more revered in his society
The only one left out in the cold is Dawnbreaker, who only has the respect of the one detective who knows who he is. None of the Zaynes seek out fame for their knowledge or skills, but Dawnbreaker actively hides himself from society… but is it because there’s very little of society left? Even if more people knew about him, would they believe him when he explains why he does what he does? Or would the powers that be try to silence him? Or even worse, pin him has just an ordinary criminal, like how the detective once saw him as?
Not only is Dawnbreaker the one that stands out the most among the Zaynes, his very nature goes against what he should be. Instead of being well-respected and looked up to by society, he wallows away in the depressing life of someone who is barely even human. Because even he doesn't want to be there
All Zaynes isolate themselves and live in seclusion, but Dawnbreaker is the only one who doesn’t have a situation or his own version of MC to force him into society
She is the only one who brings light into Zayne's life, no matter where or who he is. But she is absent in Dawnbreaker's world
Dawnbreaker is the doctor’s shadow, yes
But he is also the shadow of all Zaynes
Because that's all he is without her.

I am now thinking about Essek as, essentially, Anna Ripley for the Ruby Vanguard, and it's genuinely horrific to imagine but it's not a real timeline so it's hilarious. It is so funny in concept. He's a glorified postdoc with no mandatory ethics trainings, no future, and nothing to lose. Also he just got handed the power of a thousand suns with absolutely no oversight and a mandate to "do your worst".
This has such extreme "horse loose in a hospital" energy. No one knows what Essek will do next, least of all Essek! He's never been in control of the power of a thousand suns before! He's as confused as you are!

always a fun time when real life people are doomed by their own narratives. like guys you know it doesn’t have to be like this right? this isn’t a stageplay the foreshadowing isn’t real until you make it real
