I’m really into @aemondstark gifs these days. Their attention to detail really speaks out to me and they’re incredible. Absolutely stunningly beautiful.

@thecruel not completely a hotd blog but a honorable mention of my one of my faves 👉👈 has the crispest crisp crisps straight out of the oven golden gifs. The gifs are clean asf. Period. Seriously such beautiful stunning gifs.

@cookeolivia I’ve said it once, I’ll say a million times again. Queen of the Game of Thrones fandom. I’m actually in love with Malis talent her gifs are gorgeous.

@aegonx Miranda my beloved. Her quote gifs and the meaning behind them are always on point. Her gifs are always so beautiful and refreshing to look at.

The BBC Merlin Rare Pair Fest is thrilled to announce the Rare Pair Week, aimed specifically at artists, gif-makers, and otherwise creatives!

As classical prompt-fests the way we are running it tend to focus on fics, we decided to add a week to give this fandom's great visual artists of any kind some time to shine. Digital/traditional art, gifsets, moodboards, crochet, whatever you can think of is more than welcome!

The event will run in the week before posting for the fest starts, and you can find the daily prompts below. We count any ship/gen relationship that is not Merlin/Arthur as rare for the sake of the event; poly ships including them are more than welcome, though.

Of course, artists/giffers/etc. are still highly encouraged to leave and/or claim prompts.

I remember posting smth very similar to this maybe back when pt.1 announcements were happening but I really do feel happy on line up days because everyone is so giddy and my notifs are full of excitement and everyone has faves and giffers are giffing and actually getting proper attention, there are hot takes, room temperature takes, ice cold takes and its all fun to read and think about, so many actors are getting new opportunities whether it's their first main role or their debut or a different type of project they've been wanting for a while..idk it's a whole celebration and I like it sm, it's all so festive

hello! hope you are well! this might be a little weird but i noticed you made such great 540x gifs from low quality footage at zaalima. i am not really a giffer but my fave film doesn't have any content on tumblr thus i wanted to try my hand at making gifs. do you have any advice on how to make 540x gifs that look good from low quality footage? thanks in advance!

Honestly my main trick for making low-res footage look better is to duplicate the gif after sharpening, use Gaussian Blur at 1.5 and then set the opacity to 45%.

The blur adds a soft glow and smooths out the rough edges that sharpening gives 720p- footage:

Also coloring can affect the quality. I find that "natural" coloring works best, where vibrant colors tend to bring out the crunchy pixels. See here how it's more noticeable, especially in the background:

(this is just personal preference of course, color however you wish!)

In terms of gif size, 540x300 looks the best but you can get away with 540x360 too (like I have here)

Anyways, that's all I do with low-res footage. Hope it helps! Have fun gifing😊

Could you do a Tim + sports gifset featuring any of these scenes: 2x4 Tim says "Who doesn't like baseball?"; 2x7 Tim watching the game in the cold open + at episode end says he was a quarterback in high school; 3x8 Lucy says "That is the same advice he would give me if I got hit by a pitch"; 3x11 Tim tells Nyla about bribing Grey with Lakers tickets; 4x7 he mentions giving Nell Dodgers tickets; 4x12 he wants to be cremated on Dodgers Field; 5x8 he says "no one to complain when I watch football all Sunday"; 5x9 he tells Lucy to ask for Chris' playbook; 5x11 coaching Little League; 5x13 he asks Nolan if he has the game on during power outage; 6x7 Lucy says he was most upset when Dodgers lost in playoffs. What do you enjoy about making graphics/gifs?

i find it pretty relaxing once i'm doing it!! (scene picking is the nightmare part for me for giffing) but once i'm in photoshop, it's a very mindless process and just becomes fun when i get to the coloring part/other things

god, everyone in the merlin fandom is just so very gifted (including YOU, fyscka, the fanart!!!!!!) but loaf is my fave giffer, i still think about that arthur one pinned to the page, but here's another one she did that blows my mind

What graphics / gif trends do you like most?

blending/coloring. there's a lot of cool text work out there but i'm not as well versed in it and i do tend to prefer the colorful or well blended things!

or lyrics/words that will wrench my heart open *cries*, i like that too!

'trebuchet ms' for the usual subtitles, and i favor scripts, right now the 'blacksword' one is my favorite

as a very casual fan the peacemaker fandom is funny to me because there are all these subcategories even though the show is less than a year old.

there's the adrian x reader side which seems to be the majority of you - you guys are nothing if not dedicated to your boy, respect - and this side also seems split into two main groups of writers which never, ever overlap or interact. there's the almost nonexistent but very passionate handful of chris x reader people. there's the vigilmaker shippers (i think this is the only non x reader ship?). there are the giffers who seem on a mission to gif every single inch of adrian's body in every scene. and then there's tiny fandoms of like maybe 10 people for each of the other characters.

you guys watched this show picked your faves and by god did you commit to them. can't wait to you see you all in your natural habitat once s2 comes out. and thanks for the great fics and gifs you guys share with us lurkers!
