“Not to worry, Yoshino,” Gojo announces brightly and while Megumi can’t see his eyes he feels them flicker to him for the smallest fraction of a second and something in his stomach drops. Oh no. “I just know what to do. Don’t you worry about that, your teacher has it all figured out!”
Megumi opens his mouth, impending doom hanging over his head like a storm cloud, but by then it’s already too late, lightning has already struck. Gojo, the biggest ass in human history, flashes thumbs up in the round and then goes: “I’m sure our brightest little shikigami user would love to help you.”
(or: Yuji comes back from the dead, comes back from the dead with a shiny new friend and Megumi is totally cool with that. Everything's peachy. Really.)

It’s in the middle of scanning the last bottle of green tea that Itadori properly looks up. Eye contact with him is a physical, unexpected shock, a crunch of imaginary static snapping through Megumi and leaving his hands twitching at his sides.
"Hey." Itadori blinks, wide and earnest. "Do I know you from somewhere?"
The tea sloshes backwards in the bottle he’s holding. Megumi focuses on this until his vision steadies.
"No," he says. "I don’t think so."
In the aftermath, Itadori loses his memories instead of his life. Megumi grieves nonetheless.

Satoru hasn’t had to worry about the bounty sitting on his head for a long time. He forgets it there. It means nothing to him besides the occasional bounty hunter that attempts to fight him. Moving away from the school should have restarted that nasty anxiety that lived in him like a second skeleton for much of his younger life. But he’s the strongest sorcerer. He’s Satoru Gojo, Six Eyes. He has died and been reborn better, greater, clutching the power of existence in his palms.
Satoru barks a hysterical sounding laugh. He rubs his hands up his face, leans back and laughs at the smoggy sky.
“My birthday cake, that I ordered this morning at five thirty, was poisoned. My kid who hates sweets took the first bite and nearly died because of it.” Satoru wipes moisture from his eyes. Let out one last breathy laugh. “Someone is going to die.”

My Fave is Problematic: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
Tumblr media
Content Warning: discussion of Nazism, queerphobia
Spoilers for all of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
Even though Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure has been around for a long time, I only got into it in 2021. Its popularity exploded in the US when the tv anime, beginning from Phantom Blood, came out in 2012, and I heard a lot of hype about it from its fans. I always meant to check it out, but the final push that got me to watch it was finding out one of the Jojos was a woman. I’ve always loved stories with great female heroes, and while I’ve enjoyed many shounen series over the years, I’ve found it disappointing that most female characters weren’t given the respect they deserved. So, to hear that a shounen series featured a female protagonist got me very interested. The over-the-top action, unique and stylish art, music references (I’m a music nerd so I recognize a lot of those right away), and absurd comedy made it “Stand” out.
As I took in each new part and new Jojo, I became increasingly invested in the story and characters, and when Stone Ocean was finally adapted, Jolyne was everything I’d hoped for and then some; however, because the source manga has been around since the late 1980’s, some parts, particularly early on, haven’t exactly aged well. It’s too big a franchise to cover in every detail here, but its biggest issues feel worth discussing alongside its strengths.

Thanks for answering my ask before. If you don't mind me asking (again), can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......
Hello again - thanks so much for all of these questions!
Hmmmm, I have so many favourite things across so many different forms of media that choosing a top 7/10 is super hard. I've gone with my gut of the first things I thought of that I love, but the list could easily be wayyyyyy longer. I'm sorry - I tried to keep this as short as I could... In no particular order:
My Hero Academia (anime + manga) MHA is the first anime that I think I ever really properly enjoyed. I watched it in 2021/2022, immediately fell in love with it, and proceeded to devour both the anime and almost all of the manga. I obviously adore all of the characters, but I also love the way that MHA portrays superpowers - both in terms of how they function (w/ there being unique limitations to them) as well as how it depicts/explores superhero society. I don't normally go in for superhero type media anymore, but the combination of all of the above (plus literally the sickest soundtrack from Yuki Hayashi) easily makes it one of my fave ever things
The Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers (books) I could write an entire dissertation on why this is one of my favourite series of all time, and why Becky Chambers is one of my favourite authors. But the shorter answer is: literally everything about them. Chambers' writing is beautiful, her narratives are full of love, hope and community, and her characters are incredibly diverse and well written. My fave book from the series is Record of a Spaceborn Few.
Dragon Age series (video games) I first came across Dragon Age at a fan convention back in 2016/2017 during a panel on queer media (I think). In addition to the panel discussing the general queer relationships/characters in the series, they specifically highlighted Dorian and Krem in DA: Inquisition. The following day I went out, purchased all the games, and then played them through from the first game. IThe games are super fun to play, the writing is *chefs kiss*, and I love the themes that the games explore. I love them so much I've even written an article and done a podcast episode about them!
Jurassic Park franchise (films, books, games) Jurassic Park is one of the franchises that I was raised on (along with Star Wars) and I have been obsessed with it ever since. I've seen all the films (up to Jurassic World), read the books, own books about JP, played a bunch of the games, and even have a poster map of Isla Nublar on my wall. Dinosaurs are one of the big reasons I love them, but also I think the films have always been very interesting to me for how they give us a lens in which to think about animal rights + conservation in a science fictional setting (something else I have also done a paper on!)
Final Fantasy XV (video game) I'll keep this one short and sweet: best boys on a roadtrip that will both make your heart full of joy but will ultimately leave you a sobbing mess on the floor (Honestly I didn't play FFXV until the end of 2022 and I am still !!!!!!! over it)
Haikyuu!! (anime) sksalkkljsa. I don't even know what to say about this. HQ is just the fucking best.
I Was a Teenage Exocolonist (video game) I don't talk about it so much anymore, but Exocolonist is still one of my favourite games and it makes my heart feel so much whenever I think about it. I love the entire aesthetic of it. I love how impactful your choices feel and how many different routes you can go down. I love how inclusive the game is, not just in terms of gender, race and sexuality but also with polyamoury + family/community dynamics. The worldbuilding is beautiful, the soundtrack is *cries*. Just...it's such a wonderful game.
Manic (film) There are a lot of films I could choose for this list, but if I can only choose one (bc space) then I think Manic is a good pick. It's the 2001 indie film with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zooey Deschanel, Don Cheadle, etc, and is set in an adolescent psychiatric ward. This film means a lot to me personally, I'll just leave it at that.
Xandri Corelel series (books) I spoke a bit about why I love the series so much in response to your favourite characters question but to summarise: cool as fuck science fiction series where cool as fuck autistic bisexual polyam protagonist, Xandri, is the head of the xeno-liaisons team. It's got stellar worldbuilding, excellent characters, and explores lots of interesting issues. Also, my favourite book is Tone of Voice (2nd in the series) partly bc its got space whales in it.
Mass Effect (video games) I think by now its pretty clear I love science fiction, so Mass Effect was always gonna be a big hit with me. I actually played Dragon Age first, and then a friend told me I had to play ME. The entire series is just sooooo good for very similar reasons to a lot of my other favourites: well-written, beloved characters, cool ass narrative/s, choice-based, fun FPS moments, cool worldbuilding, sick soundtrack!

2023 Media consumption
God tier: media that invoked blorbo-induced euphoria, mini-obsession, or just haunt me
White Cat Legend (大理寺日志, Dali Court Journal) - donghua, seasons 1 and 2. The new vice minister of the imperial court of criminal justice is, unfortunately, a cat demon. Tang Dynasty workplace comedy/political intrigue. Lovely animation, sick fight scenes, and catboys.
Scissor Seven (刺客伍六七) - donghua, seasons 2-3. Netflix summary: "Seeking to recover his memory, a scissor-wielding, hairdressing, bungling quasi-assassin stumbles into a struggle for power among feuding factions." Season 1 was just ok at best, season 2 was great, season 3 was phenomenal, season 4 was meh.
Derkholm duology by Diana Wynne Jones (reread)
God Troubles Me / Hanhua Riji (汉化日记) - donghua. Cringefail loser girl Su Moting, her cringefail smartphone god, and her cringefail cat (demon) have to save the world. But first she has to go to work. And get takeout. And watch dramas. The premise sounds SO cringe but it's well-executed and hilarious. And actually a pretty sharp but good-humored window into the delights and horrors of modern everyday life in china.
The Sisters Brothers by Patrick DeWitt (reread). At the peak of the California gold rush, hitmen Charlie and Eli Sisters are hired for a job that Eli is liking less and less. 1st-person perspective of a stone-cold killer, where it turns out the killer is just Some Guy. Who is kind of awkward. And pathetic. And maybe not very bright.
Gobelins graduation animated shorts: "Chroniques de l'Eau Salée" (2021), "Last Summer" (2022), and "Go Fishboy" (2022). Available to watch on YouTube. Got caught up on 2021 and 2022 and these are the ones that will haunt me.
Ranma 1/2 by Rumiko Takahashi - manga (reread). Teenage martial artist is cursed to transform into a hot girl whenever he's splashed with cold water. Still some of the funniest and most deranged comedy I've ever read.
"Golden Age" - short story by Naomi Novik set in the Temeraire universe. Hilarious and delightful Feral Temeraire AU.
Just ok: media that I didn't hate, and maybe even enjoyed

Deep Secret by Diana Wynne Jones (reread)
Selected Discworlds: Thief of Time, Unseen Academicals (reread)
The Confessions of Max Tivoli by Andrew Sean Greer (reread)
The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells by Andrew Sean Greer
"Louise", Gobelins 2021 graduation animated short. Pretty good, but not god tier.

The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System (人渣反派自救系统) by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu
Savvy by Ingrid Law (reread)
The Silent Boy by Lois Lowry
Golden Age and Other Stories by Naomi Novik. "Golden Age" alone was amazing. Every thing else: meh.

Disliked and often DNF'd
House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds

The Stars are Legion by Kameron Hurley

Palimpsest by Catherine Valente
Knives Out (2019) dir. Rian Johnson

The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove by Christopher Moore
Stowaway by Karen Hesse
Nirvana in Fire (狼牙榜) - ok objectively it was fine. It was just SO long that I started losing patience at multiple points.

Good Omens season 2
Birdwing by Rafe Martin
Blue Eye Samurai - netflix cartoon

System Collapse by Martha Wells
The Cay by Theodore Taylor (reread)
The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier
Bottoms (2023) - movie
Daily Life of the Immortal King (仙王的日常生活) - donghua
Witch King by Martha Wells. Actually I enjoyed the Kai/Bashasa storyline a lot. The present-day storyline I found extremely boring. Which was unfortunate because it was more than half the book.
The King's Avatar (全职高手) - donghua
The Apothecary Diaries - anime
Assorted nonfiction
The Electricity of Every Living Thing by Katherine May. Bored. DNF
Alone in the Wilderness (2004) - dir. Dick Proenneke. Documentary of Proenneke's year spent living alone in the Alaskan wilderness. Neat look at one dude building a cabin, furniture, and all his accompanying household implements by hand.
A River Lost: The Life and Death of the Columbia by Blaine Harden. The human and environmental significance of the Columbia dam system.
Gifted Earth: The Ethnobotany of the Quinault and Neighboring Tribes by Douglas Deur. Guide to key native species and their traditional uses.
A Swim in a Pond in the Rain: Four Russians Give a Master Class on Writing, Reading, and Life by George Saunders. Four classic Russian short stories with accompanying technical analysis of their narrative construction. Great look at the process of writing and analyzing stories.
Animals Make Us Human by Temple Grandin - animal behavioral psychology
Animals in Translation by Temple Grandin - more animal behavioral psychology
Crying in HMart by Michelle Zauner. DNF. Felt like the book could have been 1/4 of its length. Mostly nothing new.
Wood in American Life: 1776-2076 by WG Youngquist and HO Fleischer. Wood use in America. Really makes you realize just how many things are now made out of plastic but used to be wood. And how much more difficult and expensive it was to make and replace objects.
Authentic Diversity: How to change the workplace for good by Michelle Silverthorn. Concise and nicely concrete. Would be a good starting place for an executive.
Weapons of Math Destruction by Cathy O'Neil - how some big data algorithms reinforce preexisting inequality, and how to improve them.
The Relationship Cure by Joan Declaire and John M. Gottman. The classic originator of the "bids for attention" approach. Pretty good, most helpful was the part where it identifies the styles of responses.
Essential Retirement Planning for Solo Agers: A Retirement and Aging Roadmap for Single and Childless Adults by Sara Zeff Geber
A Wolf at the Table by Augusten Burroughs
the excellent hyperlocal nature guidebook I bought after encountering the author at the mall

KBSOHSKBIBKEV THIS WAS SO MUCH MATH YOU KNEW I WAS HIGH I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'D DO THIS TO ME T~T
3. 3 films you could watch for the rest of your life and not get bored of?
I'm not exactly a movie person, but maybe the Lord of the rings extended edition?
5. what made you start your blog?
My first blog was because of my college freshman art class lmao
My second was to break away from a fanbase i hated and to distance myself from my ex
9. tell a story about your childhood
Uhh i don't have a lot of good stories so let's go with the time my cat turned off my Xbox in the middle of a left for dead 2 run
13. what are you doing right now?
Being very high hanging outside
21. are you a spiritual person?
Not currently, too much religious trauma. Maybe in the future, probably not
25. fave season and why?
Hmmmm I'll go fall. Cool temperatures, pretty color trees, Halloween, and not a lot of snow (pretty but i can't shovel with injuries so winter is a close second, spring a close third, summer far away)
33. any hobbies?
None at the moment, kind of burned out from everything. I like tinkering, making computers and servers, drawing, listening to music, and reading Manga/watching anime when i do have energy
37. share a secret
In a lighter one, i currently sleep with an otter i got from the Chicago aquarium and a blahaj a dear friend gave me, alternating cuddling them pretty tightly through the night and it's somewhat helped with nightmares
In a not good one, below the read more around gacha
In my "I'm desperately hanging on" stage i spent waaaaaay too much on gacha games. To the tune of minimum 3K USD if I'm being generous, probably closer to 5K. I remember one night I'm particular I probably spent 1k on a single character. I was trying to survive the Texas winter snowstorm in 2021 and our house lost water, Internet, and heating for like a week and a half, it was baaaaaaad

this is an anime side blog, so to list some of my faves: fruits basket, haikyuu, and kimi ni todoke. there's a lot more actually, but i watch a lot of romance animes like horimiya, blue spring ride, those typa shit! i also watch popular animes but not all of them (to enumerate a few: aot, demon slayer, and one punch man lol)
originally, the reason why i made this blog was to fangirl over furuba which was a phase i had back in 2021. but just LITERALLY one month ago i finally decided to watch haikyuu and i cried over how i never watched this before, but at least im here now. im basically new to the fandom and i'm still getting to know more about the whole hq universe basically lol but i love being here. oh and my imaginative hopeless romantic senses tingled because of smaus man so i decided to write ; p i have a lot to learn
AND ALSO I HAVEN'T READ THE WHOLE (HQ) MANGA YET ! i will tho but i'm in my last sem in college so i plan on reading it after im done w school so im practically free. so if ever PLEASE DONT SPOIL ME MUCH, esp abt the characters in timeskip DAMN but obviously ive seen some alr all around the internet - but don't tell me directly im going to cry i need to feel the experience teehee
that's it thank you for existing

Okay, I have the same questions for you! How long have you been writing and what are some of your favorite tropes/storylines to write? Also, do you have a movie/show/book you’d consider a hidden gem or under-hyped fave??
Hello there Tower! 🎶 thanks for providing me with a wonderful distraction while I work from home today ehehehe *rubs my tiny fly hands together*
How long have I been writing:
Truly, kind of all my life? I've loved books, reading, and words since childhood - I was that quirky little kid who preferred going to the library over going to the park 😅 I wrote a LOT in high school and college, but I doubted myself too much to ever do anything with any of it. I never submitted short stories to publishing houses, never posted any of my fanfics online as a result. I took a long break from writing after graduating college and only recently got back into it, about... late 2021, I want to say? I re-read some fave old Soul Eater fanfics and got inspired to take up the metaphorical pen again, and I'm so glad I did. Now it feels like all I do with my life is write and I wouldn't have it any other way tbh!
Favorite Tropes/Storylines To Write:
Boy oh boy, where to even begin? I love romance, comedy, and the wonderful intersection of the two in the form of the ROMANTIC COMEDY, which im sure is pretty obvious given the kinds of fics I tend to post. I write as a form of escape from reality and use humor to cope and process big feelings, so writing rom-coms with a lot of heart and mature themes at their core is my jam.
In terms of tropes - my faves are the following, in no particular order: Friends to Lovers, Idiots In Love, Boy Falls First, Found Family (im actually a HUGE SLUT for this one and want to write it so badly!), Second Chance Romance, Animal Companions (i utilize this one a TON in my original fiction), Cozy Fantasy and/or stories that seamlessly weave magic or supernatural elements into the "real" world... and lastly, not really a trope, but Character Driven Stories are the GOAT.
Also... I just really love writing smut. PWP one-shots are my guilty pleasure. >:3
Hidden Gems/Underhyped Faves:
I AM SO GLAD YOU ASKED!
Books (though two of these are comics technically):
-SAGA by Brian K Vaughan & Fiona Staples: adult graphic novel space epic series full of memorable characters and absolutely gorgeous art that tackles a lot of tough stuff and has made me feel the full spectrum of human emotion
-The Tea Dragon Society by K. O'Neill: a wholesome, heartwarming all ages comic chocked full of pocket-sized dragons and the COZIEST fantasy vibes EVER
-The Locked Tomb series: idk if it counts as an underrated fave/hidden gem cause the book series has a pretty sizable and active fan base, but im recommending it anyway cause Harrowhark Nonagesimus is one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, and if you like stories that explore both romantic and platonic partnership dynamics, you should give it a read if you haven't already!!
Shows/Anime:
-D. Gray-Man: shounen anime set in Victorian England about exorcists and featuring the most Cinnamon Roll Main Character in the Universe who I will always love with my whole heart, Allen Walker
-Re:Creators: a reverse isekai in which fictional characters are suddenly pulled from their universes into the real world and tackles the question of what fiction/art mean to us humans, one of my favorite shows of ALL TIME with excellent music composed by Hiroyuki Sawano
-Baccano!: a sort of steampunk/fantasy caper involving alchemists, immortals, outlaws, gangsters, an immortality elixir, and a murder mystery on a train, told in a non-linear format that really puzzles the brain on the first couple of watches
-Witch Hat Atelier: is technically a manga but is getting an anime soon! A series about a young girl who goes to magic school to become a witch, featuring an excellent magic system and gorgeous art
Movies:
-this answer is already soooooo long so ill just recommend my favorite movie of all time, PACIFIC RIM, which if you haven't seen you should WATCH RIGHT AWAY because it has the partners trope you love! Its a 2013 sci-fi flick directed by Guillermo del Toro about kaijus invading Earth from outer space, and the giant, dual-piloted robots that humanity devises to fight back with, and was so revolutionary in its portrayal of its main female character that it created a whole new benchmark for assessing portrayal of women characters in fiction (The Mako Mori Test).
In conclusion - thanks for giving me an excuse to ramble on and on, and I do truly hope you enjoyed all this drivel! 🙏😁

Hi! I was the one who sent the asks abt: shinji and momo, the burdock imagery (of which I got to see in ur latest fic, comment pending), one stray ask abt the bathroom systems in soul society and that one ask wayyy back abt my thoughts on hinamori & Hitsugaya, esp how both are within the Institution that is the Gotei (can’t wait to see the manga panel side to side of ur answer to that hehe no pressure tho don’t worry). After much thought, I decided to go off anon cuz of your encouragement. I’ve been on the bleach fandom around 2012/2013 and got back on it during the TYBW anime bleach renaissance and it has been refreshing to see fresh takes on the Canon from you and tumblr user troius! As you can tell from the theme of my asks, u can already tell who my blorbo is lmao. I’ve always had a soft spot for characters who aren’t conventionally “strong” (aka yelling Bankai every other episode) like Hinamori and Orihime & it definitely hit harder for me back then the way these girls were put thru the absolute RINGER in the narrative & in fandom discussion PHEWWW. As an adult whose bound to navigate her own bureaucratic Institution in a specific field, Hinamori’s story now resonates in a different way. In particular, I love how ur academy era fics have her using the institution as a means to soar towards opportunities hard to come by & to fulfil a genuine desire to do some good while doing so. Like it makes so much sense!! Ppl tend forget that she had to have had a burning ambition of her own in joining the academy—to the point of making it to the honors class—an ambition outside of Aizen. (This kinda links to my hc abt hinamori being a ravenclaw but that’s for another time). Anyways, before I go off tangent, hi! I’m Xela and I’m happy to openly discuss bleach (aka my fave workplace comedy) with u haha.
PS. Per my previous ask, when I meant “weird boundaries” between Aizen & momo I meant like how companies who screw u over almost always blur boundaries by going “we’re a family here!” To let u get ur guard down before they screw u over which tends to be common in Asian workplaces. I didn’t mean it in That context but I understand that bringing up their dynamic tends to revive that discourse so it’s inevitable.
Oh yay, hello hello, Xela! <333 It’s so nice to meet you! We first got into Bleach 2007-2008, but got back into it, and really really into it in 2020, to the extent that we were then compelled to make this blog in 2021. At the time we had no idea there was going to be a TYBW anime so that was serendipitous! (And the Hell Chapter, too?!)
It pleases me greatly that Hinamori is one of your blorbos. <33333 I love her so much, and she deserves all the love. I’m always excited to meet a Hinamori enjoyer. (And Orihime, too!)
Thank you so much for introducing yourself!

Faves of 2022
Self explanatory end of the year list of my favourite everythings I consumed this year. That includes things that came out before 2022 but that I read/watched/played for the first time this year. For those of you who are only interested in what came in 2022 I will put them at the top of each list for visibility.
Other than that, the lists aren’t sorted by any order of preference, that’s just too much to ask.
Films
🩳 for short films, 🏳️‍🌈 for queer films (how queer they are vary immensely here so please don’t take this as me putting them all in the same basket, it’s just to highlight which could be of interest for someone looking for queer narratives and/or point of views), and finally 🌐 for films that are not a North American production.
Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022) 🏳️‍🌈
Triangle of Sadness (2022) 🌐

Barbarian (2022)
Starfuckers (2022) 🩳🏳️‍🌈

Rest of the list under the ‘read more’
Ringu (1998) 🌐
Keyboard Fantasies (2019) 🏳️‍🌈
Two Cars, One Night (2004) 🩳🌐
Meeting the Man: James Baldwin in Paris (1970) 🩳🏳️‍🌈
Tama Tū (2004) 🩳🌐

Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
Chris Fleming: Showpig (2018)
Rashomon (1950) 🌐
La Cage aux Folles (1978) 🏳️‍🌈🌐
Books
I don’t have a lot in this list so I feel more inclined to give a lil explanation for each entry.
To Strip the Flesh by Oto Toda (2022 for the translation, 2020 in the original japanese): an anthology manga with a main story about a preop trans man who makes a living livestreaming himself cutting meat from animals that his father hunted (part of his success relying on how attractive he is to his audience who perceive him as a woman) and his struggle around coming out to his father and pursuing gender-affirming surgery.
It’s a beautiful and visceral (in every sense of the word) manga and I can’t recommend it enough. With a caveat that it contains, both in its main story and the short that make the anthology, a lot of body horror that might not be for everyone.
No Sleep Till Shengal by Zerocalcare (2022): don’t know that I have much to say about this one. People familiar with his work might understand why.
Monstrous Regiment and Going Postal by Terry Pratchett: continuing my exploration of the Discworld and enjoyed the two a great deal. Monstrous Regiment has become my favourite Discworld and maybe a favourite in general as well. It’s rare (at least to me, but maybe I’m not looking in the right places) to find satisfying trans representation in fiction, even more so in genre fiction, and even more so in stories that are overall a fun time. The final few pages make me emotional every time I read them.  “Around him, the kitchen worked.” and “‘A choice?’ said Rosemary.” forever.
My Brother’s Husband by Gengoroh Tagame: just gonna copy the wiki summary “the series follows the relationship between single father Yaichi, his daughter Kana, and Mike Flanagan, the Canadian husband of Yaichi's estranged and recently deceased twin brother.” It’s a manga, it’s beautiful, glad I finally got around to reading it.
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo: took me ages to get to this despite having devoured Six of Crows but here we are. Since it’s a sequel I don’t feel like I can say much other than I had a great time with it and the ending got me. It helped me get out of a reading slump I was in.
The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay: checked this one out because I saw the trailer for the upcoming film adaptation and it hooked me. It was such an easy read I finished it in 3 days (which is very fast for me nowadays). I still don’t really know what to think of it, still recovering from the ending and trying to make up my mind, but it did its job of keeping me invested and turning the pages fast. I’m very curious to see how they adapt it too.
Dracula by Bram Stoker: so thankful for dracula daily for getting me to read this, joined the squad of “why the hell adaptations do this to Mina and why do they omit my man Quincey?”.
A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers: even less “plot” than the first book but I couldn’t give a shit. I love the Wayfarers universe and its characters and this was such a comfortable and satisfying read. It even made me reevaluate some of my stances on AIs.
Overall I only read 2 of the books I said were on my to-read for 2022 but I achieved my goal of reading at least 12 books this year (even beat it by 1!) and got out of a years long reading slump so it’s a win! Looking forward to my reading in 2023.
TV Shows
Faves new shows of 2022: Our Flag Means Death, Severance, The Bear, Murderville and Interview with the Vampire
Other than that I watch too many things and TV Time is awful to navigate but off the top of my head other shows that didn’t start this year that I feel the need to highlight: What We Do In The Shadows (this latest finale was a gut punch in the best of ways), Chucky (the most fun I’ve had consistently watching anything this year), The Night Of (took me a while to get to this miniseries but it didn’t disappoint to say the least), Taskmaster NZ (the superior version), Barry, Succession, The Casketeers, Los Espookys...
Oh and you should subscribe to Dropout
Everything Else
I don’t play that much video games but of the ones I played and finished (or that can’t be finished) I played and finished Spiritfarer this year and that didn’t disappoint. Also the new Just Dance (2023 Edition) is insane. Yes they sacrificed a lot in the process but if you only take the new songs and maps into account it’s the best they’ve ever done.
And music wise I already answered a lot of Spotify Wrapped questions and that’s probably that. I’m a filthy casual enjoyer of music, incapable of having any critical sense for it.
I made this list mostly for myself and also for those of you who might have similar taste as mine and looking for recs. If after reading this you think you might have recs for me, feel free to drop them in replies or DMs!
Happy new year!

Top 22 of 2022
End of the Year Game Tag
I got tagged by @happyandticklish for the end of year tag game! I'm going to put the answers under the cut so you can skip past if you'd like ^^
Part 1: Fandom Faves
01. Favorite new fandoms of the year
OOOOOO I think I joined a heap of new fandoms this year. Top favourites would have to be Heartstopper, Moon Knight, Daredevil, SuperBat (DC), and The Umbrella Academy.
02. Favorite new ships since this year
Obviously Nick/Charlie, Superbat, and probably Steddie (even tho I'm not up to their season in Stranger things yet lmao).
03. Favorite anime/TV show of the year
I think Moon Knight has to take the cake my dudes. I haven't been that hooked on a show in ages.
I'm not really an anime watcher, so I don't really have an answer for this. But my gf has been trying to get me into Fairy Tail so I'll pick that one I guess ^^
And of course, my all time favourite show is Doctor Who
04. Favorite movie of the year
Turning red was amazing, made my best friend cry.
I do have to give MoonFall an honourable mention, that movie was batshit crazy and I loved it.
And even though it technically came out in 2021, I watched it in January this year so SPIDERMAN NO WAY HOME is gonna be my favourite movie for the year.
In terms of my favourite movie of all time, I love Legends of Ravaging Dynasties and How to Train your Dragon.
05. Favorite character of the year
Oh god this is hard...
I'd have to give it to either Steven from Moon Knight or Elijah from The Originals!
And of course Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man has to be up there hehe.
But my favourite character of all time is Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor who. That man is EVERYTHING
06. Favorite soundtrack of the year
Ooooo interesting...
In terms of newer sound tracks, I'll give it to Tick Tick Boom (another one that came out last year but I only watched it this year).
For older soundtracks, nothing will ever top HTTYD.
07. Favorite book/manga/comic of the year
I started The Promised Neverland this year and it was pretty cool!
Overall, Stuff That Scares Your Pants Off is such a good book and I don't know why I love it so much.
08. Favorite game of the year
I'll give it to The Quarry, Cult of the Lamb, and Stray.
Overall, I'm a sucker for Minecraft, Skyrim, and The Sims.
09. Highlight of this year to remember
Probably moving out! That was a huge achievement, and to do it with my girlfriend was awesome.
Part 2: Community Review
10. Favorite Tumblr moments of 2022
Like many others, TickleTober was my favourite moment this year for the community! And not just seeing everyone creating throughout the month, but seeing the support and encouragement and hype for each other was lovely!
11. Favorite fan art of the year
I'm such a sucker for anything that @sleepysheepytea draws cause it's just absolutely adorable (even though we don't share any fandoms I still cannot get enough of them).
I also only recently discovered @vqler 's art and HOLY SHIT ???? very VERY talented people on this app...
@ticklishfanart has some adorable pieces !!! Mostly for MHA which I haven't seen but like COME ON LOOK AT THIS, AND THIS!!! HOW COULD YOU NOT LOVE IT?
Finally, @ssnicker-doodless has some super cute sketches that I've seen around the place.
Again, not a lot of fandom crossover with people (perhaps down the track I'll commission 👀). I need to find artists who share fandoms with meeeee !!! (though as I'm typing this I swear to god there's some moonknight fanart I've seen and I can't find it SJDHALKSHAS help). If there's any artists out there who have similar likes to me PLEASE send me ur username (or a username of an artist you like) in the ask box !!!
But I mean the fanart someone drew of When Bats Hum kinda has to be my favourite right??? It was so cute, so well done, and meant absolutely everything to me.
12. Favorite fic of the year
Oh this is DIFFICULT ! This is real hard. I loved so many fics this year aaaaaaaaaa.
Onion Man's heartstopper fics were beautiful (@ticklepinions )
This heartstopper fic, this PJO fic, and this Destiel fic from Happy are all amazing (@happyandticklish )
HOLY SHIT I JUST REALISED THAT @writingwitharlo WROTE A HEAP OF MY FAVOURITE FICS FROM AGES AGO AJSKHSALKHFS OMFG !!!! LEMME DUMP A WHOLE LIST FOR YOU: - Steddie (recent, not an old fav but I still love it) - Heartstopper (1 and 2, again not old but amazing ) - Stony - Supernatural (this one and this one and this one too! THESE ARE SOME OF MY OLD FAVS SKJALSHKLSDJHSDFLKJH)
@ticklishraspberries has some really really sweet fics for Steddie, The Umbrella Academy, and Supernatural that I love !!
Lmao I did not pick just one oops.
13. Favorite ask game of the year
DAMNIT THIS IS ANOTHER HARD QUESTION UHH honestly I'd have to say the Alphabet Ask Game by @otomiya-tickles was a really cute and fun one!
14. My top achievements as a writer/artist/creator/blogger
OOOOOO Ok I have a few for this one. 2022 was a pretty big year for me in a number of different areas. - I hit 1,000 followers (holy shit) - I posted 45 new fics (which is insane I'm so pleased) - I completed the entire TickleTober Challenge coming up with my own original prompts (crazy) - And I'm slowly reaching out and talking to people in the community and I'm so keen to make some more friends !!
15. My own best fic/post of the year
In terms of the fic that did 'the best' I'm going to guess it's one of the heartstopper ones? Mayyyyybe a Moon Knight one?
OK DAMN heartstopper wasn't even in the top 3 ??
My top 3 fics overall are 3rd - Cold Hands, Warm Heart (Sanders Sides) [75 Notes] 2nd - Out of Control (Moon Knight) [86 Notes] 1st - Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better (MoonKnight) [105 Notes]
The one that I'm the most proud of this year is definitely Giggles in the Dark (Heartstopper). I loved imagining it, writing it, reading it, just everything! It holds a very special place in my heart! (and it did pretty well too so maybe people could feel how much I liked it lmao)
16. My most underappreciated fic/post of the year
I mean I don't reeeeally have any fics I think are 'underappreciated'? But I guess I'll put either Magic or Claws (both TickleTober fics lol, 25 and 26) on there? Magic is a pretty fun one that I had been thinking about for a while, and Claws I thought was pretty clever.
So yeah they would be my answers!
17. A post of mine that got more popularity than expected
Honestly both of the Moon Knight Fics got wayyyyy more popular than I was expecting (more than 100 notes for one ???) so yeah I'll put down Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better and Out of Control lol.
18. Something I changed on my blog since this year
I mean I changed my profile pic I guess? And I also posted a pic of myself (covering my face of course) which I've never done before!
Part 3: Next Year
19. Something I didn’t post this year but would like to do next year
I'd want to try to get into chapter fics? Like one long running fic thing. I think that would be a fun challenge!
20. Goals for next year
I want to hit 100 fics next year! I know that'll be tricky but I think I can do it!
I also want to talk to more people and make more friends!
21. 2023 releases I look forward to the most
Definitely hyped for the new Indiana Jones, and Spiderman Spiderverse.
I'm also keen for season 2 of Shadow and Bone and Squid Game.
And excited to see what fics come on on this hellsite 👀👀
Part 4: Spreading Love
22. Shoutouts to people who made my 2022 a better year
Ok I know for a fact I'm going to miss someone so IM SO SORRY IN ADVANCE but:
@ticklepinions for being not just a hilarious blog, but a really genuinely nice dude (and a teasy ass sometimes <3)
@happyandticklish for some incredible fics, being absolutely lovely, and sending asks back and forth <3
@sensitivebabbage for all the chats we have, the downright adorable thoughts you leave in the tags, and the occasional cute animals you send me ^^
And you know what here's a bunch more awesome people who are lovely, make awesome content, and/or just have absolutely fantastic blogs that I love seeing on my dash <;3 @artymiswritesfics, @ticklishsheepy (not active atm), @gigglen, @delightfulfics, @mysteys-vibes, @jamieisnotalee, @oliviaischillin1204, @achilleean, @fanficsandfluff, @ticklishraspberries, @blushypuppi, @toadallytickles, @august-anon, @supermarvel-fics, @the-new-ginger-switch, @nhasablogg, @ticklishfanart, @sleepysheepytea, @ficsandgiggles, @mysterious-marvel
Happy New Year everybody, I love you all and hope your holiday is exactly what you need <3

What are your thoughts on the character writing in Shaman King? I think it's pretty interesting since it doesn't always spell out everything for the reader.
sorry for leaving this for like 87 years I was deliberating my opinions and then I forgot
pinkie promise to not ignore more asks for this long please give me more things to drabble on about
this triggered an unskippable cutscene so I'm adding a read more but if you don't wanna be here for years me complaining is still above the cut (though I recommend being a nerd with me I have a graph)
anyways I have a running bit with myself whenever I'm googling something mankin related (like when capitalism was invented or the average altitude in hokkaido or something about lsd for the fiftieth time) that I do more research than takei did originally writing the damn thing. the exact words I say are usually "I should stop expecting takei to be good at his job when I do this" because takei does suck at his job sometimes. directing you towards him using the entirety of pre-colonial mesoamerica as a grab bag of random traits that results in hell for me googling stuff because ohmygod
I think the character writing is where this happens the least (though there was one point during my flowers reread where I had to step away from my computer because I forgot he did a thing and it was the SINGLE WORST THING HE COULD HAVE WRITTEN for those characters with that plot element but I digress that is a whole other thing that I am not qualified for)
the writing of our main characters (specifically pacing) is funny though one second I have a graph
these lines display (roughly) the points in the story where we're introduced to our five main characters and also the points where we get full backstory reveals
as you can see
Tumblr media
takei what the actual fuck why is it so imbalanced
I think it's a cool funny haha but sir did you forget that one of your most important characters didn't have a full backstory for like four years
not much else to say about pacing except the manga is already really zoomy and when you don't give them enough episodes to adapt it you get an any% speedrun wr 19 hours 50 minutes whateverI'mnotdoingmoremath seconds also look at this typo I made writing this it's very important
Tumblr media
ok right where we we
actually answering the ask sounds like a good idea now
overall I really like the characters in the shaman king manga, reboot anime, and what I've seen of the 2001 anime. I've already written an entire post about how much I love yoh and hao's writing. hana and alumi are neat and red crimson is an excellent manga but we're no here for sequels
also it's important to note that I have been staring at shaman king for like two years straight, I have no sense of what's obvious knowledge and what's obscure nolifer wisdom ( no idea where I fall on that spectrum basically)
recently I've been in a real x laws appreciation phase, I think lyserg's arc specifically is a neat and complex take on justice and healing. it feels like something that could realistically happen to a person, minus all the supernatural stuff of course
ever since I first watched the 2021 anime the summer it started airing I've also really liked ren. he's got the zuko type redemption arc thing going on, and while that's an age old trope something about the way he was written always gets me. watching 2021 episode 27 for the first time the day it came out (as the first episode I watched weekly btw, rip osorezan arc you're beautiful but the first time I watched you I was so preoccupied) was one of the most memorable media experiences I've ever had. 😲 face the entire time
horo's another fave writing wise, again mostly because I think the ridiculous pacing of his arc is Hilarious, but if you interpret it as takei being good at his job (possible but unlikely) his introduction scene is fantastic at establishing a character without letting you know you're missing something. I for one didn't notice until the narrative pointed it out at which point I freaked out a bit because oh no I ignored my son by accident. the wisdom kings fight still makes me lose it every time I watch it scene of all time as well (voice performance has to be my favourite part of that I don't think it would go half as hard animated without that)
those three are my favourite characters writing wise. I also think jeanne is cool but her entire arc is very similar to both lyserg's and ren's so I shan't elaborate. I will however tell you about the time I was sitting in math class when my teacher mentioned joan d'arc, I had what can only be described as a eureka moment, and spent five minutes frantically googling things until I zoned back in to him talking about the time he almost drowned in quicksand on mont saint michel
there's also some neat stuff with plant and flower symbolism that I haven't looked into in months but is pretty neat (I like the part where weed shows up because I am so very mature)
don't even get me started on the musical leitmotifs and themes (no seriously don't I have no real musical knowledge and no one to fact check my bs) but I did write another post about some of it if you haven't read it
uh in conclusion I don't think takei knows what he's doing sometimes, character writing in shaman king pretty good sometimes me likey, I will make graphs on a whim for basically no reason
here have another one I did in two minutes to explain ren and jeanne's parallel character arcs once
Tumblr media
giveb me more mankin asks if you have any I have so many OPINIONS and TANGENTS I wish to be PROMPTED

I'm sorry, but ever since you revealed that you're replaying corpse party for the season, I have got to send you an ask about it cause I've ever met anyone else irl who has actually played the game too fgdjdkdhdjd
Which version are you playing? The 2016 steam release with all the og rpg maker art and the bonus episodes? The 2010 psp release with the updated art but issue of not being able to 100% the name tags because of the 'what moron goes in to investigate the women's washroom when a demonic school dimension is currently is the process of collapsing?!' bug? The 3ds version with the updated art AND bonus episodes AND lack of name tag bug?
Have you ever watched the ova anime series as bloody and graphic as it is? What about the manga? Have you read that? Who's your fav character? Least fav? Favourite chapter? Fav song? Did you ever play the other games in the series or only the first (and the best let's be real)?
(I'm sorry for all the questions btw. I was hyper obsessed with this series like 8 years ago and it still clearly holds a special place in my heart fhdjdkdjdhd so as an apology here's a pic of two very gay girls that live on my shelf)
Tumblr media
AHHHHH IM SO HAPPY YOU ASKED ABT THIS
its so nice that someone else i know has played it!!!
as for which one I'm playing, it's the 2021 rerelease!
i never actually got to play the og game growing up because i never had a pc
so i was stuck watching playthroughs for the longest time </3
i honestly cannot remember which version it was that i grew up watching. it was in the early 2010s, so it was probably the psp version! and those glitches aajhdhrjsjsjaj. it sounds so frustrating!! i had no idea they were bugged like that
corpse party has a special place in my heart because i started off roleplaying it by rping in the comment section of youtube vids as ayumi 😭
as for the anime series i did end up watching it! definitely younger than i should have been doing so but i liked it!! except i was really bummed about how it had the bad end if i remember correctly?? i was(still am) a hardcore ayushiki shipper and was so sad they did yoshiki like that </3
and i have actually read the manga! or at least part of it. i just have the first volume but really wanna get the rest. i just got so caught up in dorohedoro that i ended up splurging on all the books for that instead.
ayumi hands down is my fave. i know shes a motherfucker and fucked everything up, but thats honestly why i like her. i also just love that shes a horror aficionado but is by far the biggest pussy out of everyone. her duality <3
as for least fave itd have to be morishige. he's just such a fucking creep and the studious anime boy act is annoying af.
ill have to get back to you on fave chapter because my memory is really rusty and ive only made it back up to chap 4!
same goes for song. im also just the kinda person who doesnt really recognize soundtracks that well 😭
i do remember watching a lot of visual novel gameplay and book of shadows, but i do not remember anything about them because it was so fucking long ago!
AND PLEASE DONT FEELSORRY FOR BEING EXCITED ABOUT THIS IM GENUINELY HAPPY TO HAVE FOUND SOMEONE THIS EXCITED ABOUT IT!!
AND YOU SEIKO AND NAOMI FIGS ARE ADORABLE they should have been end game,,

anime ive watched in 2022, ranked least to most favourite:
12: overlord (2015-)
(this show doesnt deserve a gif)
listen. its a bad show. anyone who tells you is good is marvelpilled to see action=good. the world setup and characters had a lot of potential in season 1, but with each season it got progressively worse. the show spends a lot of time developing side characters, and then kills them off just to show how strong the protagonist is. said protagonist goes through little to no character development over 4 entire seasons. even the action and fights arent well done theyre just fights. everything’s a curbstomp and it sucks. idk man even fic cant fix this one.
11: tales of phantasia (2004)
Tumblr media
pros: seeing the characters animated instead of in little pixeled sprites. cons: everything else. its a bad adaptation.
10: chainsaw man (2022-)
Tumblr media
this one’s also not for me! i think its a really good show, between the pacing, interpersonal relationships, and animation (plus a different ending per ep is god tier). but it makes me feel bad to watch and not even in a cathartic way.
9: spy x family (2022-)
Tumblr media
its a fun show! the animation’s great and its funny. but it doesnt stand out to me as much as its hyped. definitely recommend, but doesnt compare to my other faves.
8. black butler (2008)
Tumblr media
the story? WACK. the characters? WACK. made me laugh though and it was really fun to watch as like, something id only heard about back in middle school. would not recommend but i had fun watching it. plus, its one of the few shows (ok first seasons) that actively keeps its word and doesnt try to pull a deus ex to save the protag at the end. we need more of this.
7. the case study of vanitas (2022-)
Tumblr media
the way this show deals with unreliable narrators and complex interpersonal relationships and still manages to have incredible worldbuilding… the characters are all so well done and i NEED to have more of it animated.
6. demon slayer (entertainment district arc) (2022-)
Tumblr media
i dont care what anyone says i love this show. best quality animation of the decade. super compelling cast of characters. i watched the rest of the show last year, but this one gets included bc its new and it made me rewatch the entire show twice. that fight at the end had me truly speechless
4. komi cant communicate (2021-)
Tumblr media
i laughed until i cried several times while watching this and that alone puts any show near the top for me
3. fabiniku (2022-)
Tumblr media
see above. every ep had me in tears. best ending song of the year (hiii most played song). plus its gender.
2. mairimashita! iruma-kun (2019-)
Tumblr media
life changing show. to me. like i dont even know what to say about it. character designs rule. op/ed AND musical songs are good. first anime to make me pick up its manga in a literal decade. theres nonbinary characters. its an isekai. every character makes me go :D when they come up on screen. 11/10
1. mob psycho 100 (2016-2022)
Tumblr media
show of all time TRULY. nothing i can add that hasnt been lauded on here before. soundtrack, animation, character designs, writing, attention to detail, humour, it has EVERYTHING. has a (new) favourite character of anything ever (ritsu). ive rewatched it three times in 3 months (incredibly high praise from me)

yugioh covid au headcanon: yugi mutou makes a giant rube goldberg machine out of his entire house during quarantine.
he’s like that one guy who loves to hide things in special hidden compartments, except it’s also a giant rube goldberg machine.

[image id: 1. an image of the Guess Who? game cover edited with several clone trooper helmets. 2. a fake Guess Who? game board consisting of edited pictures of Temuera Morrison so that he appears as several clones from Star Wars: The Clone Wars]
Now you too can play classic children’s game “Guess Who?” with all your Star Wars: The Clone Wars faves! Featuring fan favorites like CT-5555, CT-1409, and of course the beloved CT-7567.

(This is like 80% shitpost and 20% “actually that DOES sound fun.” Check under the cut for an alternate board with actual names and a few different clones lmao.)
