What are your top five television shows of all time?

In no particular order:

M*A*S*H

I’m watching it right now in MeTV. It’s one of my comfort shows. My family always watched it when I was a kid. My dad loved it because it reminded him of his days as a medic in WWII.

The Simpsons

I haven’t kept up with the later seasons but I watched it religiously from day one (yeah, I remember the shorts on the Tracy Ullman Show, I’m that old, lol). I quote The Simpsons on a daily basis and can have entire conversations with friends using only Simpsons references.

Star Trek: the Next Generation

I grew up watching the original series and TNG debuted the year I graduated from high school. I loved it from the get go. Another show I quote often. Darmok and Jalad at Tenagra.

The X Files

The first fandom I wrote fic for. I shipped Mulder and Scully so hard! Haven’t watched an episode in years but I remember writing to my pen pal who introduced me to the show every week to debrief on the latest episode.

Futurama

Another show I quote all the time. Every time it gets rebooted I squeal. Good news, everyone!

Honorable mentions to King of the Hill, The Big Bang Theory, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, The Mandalorian, Northern Exposure, Call the Midwife, and probably a dozen more I’ll think of as soon as I post this.

What are your top five television shows of all time?

2. Golden Girls. I quote something from this show at least daily. I love these four women so much, the performances were amazing. I love all four of those characters. gif from one of my favorite episodes

1. Lost. Ok, ok, let’s not talk about the ending. But that first season was so captivating, I loved it! I also have a soft spot for this show because it was big while I was in college and I had a little group I would watch the show with every week and it was a lot of fun. (Also Charlie 😩)

3. Schitt’s Creek. Like Golden Girls, Schitt’s Creek is a bit of comfort show for me. I can turn on any episode and just enjoy. 

4. Westworld. Similar to Lost, I don’t really want to talk about the ending 😆 but that first season…it was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. 

5. Alias. I was in high school when this show came out and I thought Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) was the coolest most badass character. I wanted to be her. The show kind of went off the rails towards the end, but those first few seasons were so so good!

Honorable mentions: The Mandalorian, The Last of Us, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Gossip Girl, CSI (any of them), NCIS, Law & Order SVU, Prison Break, and probably a ton of others I’m forgetting about.

My spouse is finally letting me show him Battlestar Galactica (2003), one of my favorite shows! I'm really excited about it. I love watching a good thing twice and then really getting to appreciate the themes and foreshadowing.

Battlestar Galactica is a bit of a weird case for me, because I came to it very pre-spoiled about most of the plot twists. You see, before I even knew the show existed, I played the board game based off it for years. It was in fact my favorite board game (still is). And the game is very faithful to both the tone and writing of the show.

Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I firmly believe that if spoilers steal the impact of what you're making, than it probably isn't very strong in the first place.
