Part 1

I wanted to make a separated master-post for best fics of 2023(first half) but. I am just too tired for that. I will just separate posts by fandom. I read like more than 30? Fics. I prefer to read something lond but short fics were very nice too :D

So, I will begin with my bread and butter, my fields (I love this fd BECAUSE there are so many fics, and I ALWAYS have something to read)

BNHA fandom

Some REALLY interesting stuff:

I think you know about this one. It's finished gen fic about Izuku that can see spirits. But like? These spirits are like kind of also quirks? (I just love the idea of different guardian creatures) Also. Some healthy dose of Parental Aizawa Shouta.

Also this fic have such... beautiful scenes? I don't want to spoil anything but it's just really worthy read.

Gen, ongoing fic. Izuku and Hawks are brothers here! Cute, funny and comforting! I loved birdy Izuku characterisation (but he is more like skwader). Also, Bakugo is so likeable here. He is just grumpy and gruff but protective and like... acting like a really good friend to Izuku.

Another ongoing gen fic. Ok. This one is funny. Izuku here just is VERY DONE. And just wants to have money. And to work uninterrupted. Seriously I just love this clever and totally done, tired Izuku. Also! Lots of banter. You know this stuff is for soul.

Probably you know this one too if you frequently read in this fd. Ongoing long fic. Here Izuku can see ghosts. ...Aaaand when he gets into UA he sees Oboro. As a ghost.

This fic seriously warmed my heart. This is so comforting (and the fic is long, I love it). And the friendship between Izuku and Oboro is so 🤧🤧🤧 *lost her words*

Also big dose of Parental Aizawa Shouta and Parental Yamada(they are husbands here) for the fans. Arghh MORE COMFORTING READS FOR ME.

As soon as I saw your crossover ask in my inbox, I knew exactly who I would pair your Apollo up with! Forgive me for not answering this much quicker, my BNHA OCs are not quite as developed as I would like them to be (which I'm looking forward to mending this year) but I had a basic concept in mind for them all and I had just the person in mind for this asks.

🔀 Apollo Ryu (My Hero Academia) // Ren Mitsugi (My Hero Academia)

Both are 1st year students in the Hero Course at U.A. High School which already puts them on even ground.

They are known to have sweet demeanours and are rather casual and easy going.

They are both 'giving' people, they like close contact and like to do stuff for others, offering comfort, support, encouragement etc.

They both love energy drinks - Ren's quirk requires him to have a large intake on energy and he finds that most often through the consumption of sugar, caffeine or large meals. It's through Ren's love of sugar that he actually came up with his Hero Name: Warhead when he and his group were hiding out in an abandoned convenience store and he came across an American candy of the same name.

They both hate mornings - Ren is NOT an early riser and that was an almost life-threatening aspect about him during his time on the run from the Villain Society. Rousing him up in the mornings was the biggest pain in the ass for the Heroes and he would whine about it until at least after midday.

They both have very strong power quirks that make them ideal fighters on the frontlines.

They also both excel in combat.

I also feel like they both have quirks that they don't have complete control over and because of the potentially dangerous nature of their quirks, they can be concerned and possibly afraid of backlash to those in close quarters, whether that be colleagues, friends or civilians.

They don't have the best relationship with their family and have stronger bonds with their friends than their actual blood.

Ren has a much louder and more outgoing personality than Apollo, I think. Mostly because Ren and his friends have been forced to be aggressive for over a year or so in the name of survival. Ren's role model is his mentor and Pro Hero: Red Riot and thus, he has modelled a lot of aspects after him.

Another diverging factor is that Ren was raised during a time where Hero Society was overly criticised and was largely fractured by corruption, crime and villainy.

Therefore, Ren and Apollo would have vastly different opinions about what it means to be a hero and how the current hero society (as we see in the show) lives up to that expectation.

Ren's outlook on Hero Society - like the rest of his friends - his more critical and cynical.

Besides that, I think they would get along.

I can imagine them swapping Monsters at recess if the other had the flavour they wanted.

Shouting out encouragements or exchanging high fives whenever the other was stepping up for a training exercise.

Both drudging behind everyone like zombies and just collapsing on top of one another when Aizawa-Sensei isn't watching.

Ren would pull Apollo into conversations more often, introduce him to people outside of his circle like Ren's friends Kaneki, Yoshinaga and Nakano.

Get him to open up a bit, maybe invite him to a movie night or out for a shop. Bribe him with the promise of burgers.

Ren would stand up for Apollo if anyone was giving him a hard time with his looks or pulling mean-spirited pranks on him.

He'd rave on and on about how cool it was that he had a dragon as a friend and would part his spiky red hair into a pair of horns in solidarity.

ok so i've seen boku no hero academia talked about before on here before

the first in relation to the mother-son ship of the main character izuku and his mother inko

(not my cup of tea but i understand the appeal)

then there's the iida brothers

(which, straight laced class rep going to commit revenge murder for his brother/idol/crush is my jam)

buuuut no one has touched on the gold mine that is the todoroki family

the family as a whole is like super fucked up and there's so much you can do there

first is the father enji (endeavor) i admit i don't ship him with any of the other todorokis but that's bc he's a child abuser and i personally don't like him

that said there is still a lot of potential

first up is the (until recently) assumed dead first son touya

(who i will be referring to as dabi bc that is his chosen name and as a trans guy seeing characters name choices when specifically chosen to distance themselves from who or what they were before ignored is a pet peeve of mine)

dabi was the oldest and originally favored child until his body proved incompatible with his powers

(he had fire powers with an ice body)

he felt used and abandoned becoming obsessed with getting his father's attention and approval to the point that he trained himself so hard that he almost (accidentally) killed himself thus becoming obsessed with killing endeavor for ruining him

(i'm sure you can see the potential appeal)

then there's fuyumi the second child and the eldest daughter who after her mother's psychotic break (more on this later) stepped into the mothering role for her two younger brothers and i'm sure you can see where this would go in relation to her father

then there's natsuo second son and third child who just hates the fuck out of endeavor without going murder happy and i actually thinks there's a lot of potential of someone just always willing to call endeavor on his bs and of all his kids that's natsuo

finally we have shouto the youngest child endeavor's "master piece" since the whole reason he married his wife was for a diy eugenics experiment

(hero's have rankings endeavor's always 2nd place he decided that if his kid got 1st place it would be like him getting 1st)

anyways he "favors" shouto by treating him like shit and abusing him in the name of "training" and honestly just being terrible for shouto's mental health eventually endeavor gets his head out of his ass and tries being a better person and shouto forgives him

(i'm sorry i tried to make this as unbiased as i could but my feelings on that last one probably slipped through, sorry)

next up is rei the mother

the best way to describe her and endeavor's marriage is an arranged one that went sour

she had a psychotic break and physically scared her child

rei x dabi is sweet but fucked up

before dabi "died" he did and said some fucked up things to his mom

(that he probably picked up from his father)

but after he went off the deep end and when he was going out to kill his father he made rei a video that was so sweet explaining everything that happened and showing off his scars to her

showing he's grown and doesn't actively blame her anymore

next up is fuyumi the only daughter

she constantly visited her mother in the hospital and as she took her mother's place in the home there could be bonding from the stress of that that could move into something more

natsuo is the person i think is most likely to call out rei on her issues as a parent with being cruel or blaming her and it would allow her realize how she's messed up and grow to be better

shouto is the youngest and the child rei ended up scaring

the negative aspects of her marriage with endeavor had gotten physical and she was handling it terribly

she ended up breaking and attacking shouto pouring hot tea on his face

after this when rei is place in a mental hospital shouto never seems to blame her only blaming endeavor and in fact appears to revere rei

making her the reason he wants to complete his dream and be a hero

even suppressing the part himself that he feels rei rejected

and not going to the hospital so that his presence can't harm her further

when he finally does visit shouto is happy that rei doesn't blame him for not visiting

dabi's section will be last because my favorite todocest ship is in that section and i want to end my rant on it

fuyumi is the eldest daughter who took up the mothering role and wants her family to be normal so badly

with natsuo he's always willing to talk her to relax and take of herself and i think he's someone that she would seek comfort in because she knows that he may call her out when what she's doing is toxic for herself he's also willing to be comfortable place to rest

then there's shouto who is the sibling she probably helped the most and considering how endeavor generally kept shouto away from his failed experiments she's probably the sibling shouto knows the best which means that shouto is more likely to ask her things and go to her for comfort

and the we have natsuo and shouto

who would validate shouto's feelings

shouto's allowed to be mad at endeavor his abuse, to be mad rei for literally scaring his face, and mad at fuyumi for the way she tries to subtlety pressure him into forgiving endeavor

(and later mad at dabi for leaving, for not trying to save them, for not exposing endeavor's shitty-ness and for trying to kill shouto)

and i think natsuo would be good for shouto because shouto never seems to behave like his feelings and hurts are valid and someone telling him that they are would be fantastic for his mental health

and finally dabi

i've summed him up plenty so first is fuyumi

before we got confirmation of ages

(and even that dabi was touya)

a lot of ppl had dabi and fuyumi as twins

so there's a natural understanding of the two oldest children closest in age of how fucked up their home life is and seeking comfort in each other

nastuo has a similar premise but with it actually happening in canon as we see dabi when he was younger complaining to natsuo about how fucked up it is that their dad ignores them plus natsuo would absolutely tell dabi to tone down the murder bs

ok dabi and shouto

when we first meet dabi we don't know he's touya he just someone who hates heros and is in the group attacking shouto's class and kidnapping a student

so there's just a weirdly long and intense eye contact scene where dabi manages to succeed in kidnapping the other student and going "how sad todoroki shouto"

when things are finally revealed about dabi's identity dabi admits that he wants to kill shouto too because he got all the attention as a child

and there's a lot of parallels

post reveal shouto admits that he was like dabi before the main character knocked some sense into him

full of rag and unhappiness and he want to help his brother

and there's so much potential for growth on both sides

Wow, I love families with so much to do dig into and you've laid out all the relationships so well. Lots of kids, lots to ship, lots of different dynamics. I love it!

A/N; I was just basically listening to ‘When the Party’s Over’ by Billie Eilish on repeat to write this, so listen to that while reading and you’ll get the mood. Also this is shit bc it’s my first BNHA writing but I love it and this idea.

There was a pain that couldn’t be put into words, not really. A certain ache that filled the lungs like blood, spilling up and over, trickling down her lips, her neck, covering her skin in reminder of her melancholy.

Why?

She could never read Katuski Bakugou. Couldn’t read past his aggression and his occasional lack of.

Emotion did not come easy to him, both subconsciously and by way of will.

She could have only ever guessed that this is what her life would be; it’s what she’d expected as soon as she’d come to the realisation that her heart became irregular in the presence of Katsuki.

It wasn’t the notion of a love unrequited that kept her swaying beneath an ocean comprised of desperation and black, thick, suffocating tears.

It was, rather, the looks he gave her. He knew the feelings she harboured, that much could be assumed.

He knew that she was completely, undeniably wrapped in his strong hold, her fragile existence softened in his calloused palms.

He looked at her knowing she’d burn herself down to keep him in the light. Knowing that she’d tear herself apart to make him whole.

And she in return looked at him in the knowledge that nothing she’d ever do would stop him leaving.

It was the same at this moment, her hand lingering pathetically on her door handle, with no real effort to take her in her room and out of his held gaze. His burnt red eyes steadily taking in her figure, her unspoken language, the way she would still hang onto his every unspoken word.

They simply looked at each other from either end of the hall, unable to come to terms with what it was between them; a stalemate.

He was a mystery, no flickering of any feeling ever seeing the light of day, save only once. She was a painted picture, strung up high and seen by many.

He had been rescued and returned safely home, but it was like he’d never left.

Experience hadn’t alleviated his reluctance to admit to caring for her, something she didn’t know he held for her in the first place.

Everything they’d been through- the attack on the USJ, the sports carnival, the training camp and its subsequent mishaps- none of it had done much to bring them closer. It only revealed truths about each other that they’d never cared to admit to themselves or others. In turn these truths had done their part in intertwining with her skin, up her arms, as if printed on her skin for everyone to read. She could now be perused like a library of emotion and memory, skimmed over and left to the side. A blurb read but a book never opened.

In the face of his imminent kidnapping, she could only let herself become what she’d felt herself to be. From her hands, swirling winds and an overcast darkness. They were after him, after all, and she knew that his stubborn nature would have him fight.

The forest was thick, and everyone was separated. She couldn’t have a clue where he was.

But he had known where she was.

For while her storms rattled the trees like cage bars that were holding her from him, he could see it all above the treetops, a violent rustling. If he strained his ears, he could even pick up her screams and shouts echoed in the winds ever so slightly.

He inwardly berated her for causing such a stir and attracting attention to herself. More so, his concerns lied in his own power.

Power.

He was obsessed with having it, and being the one to wield it. He was to be the best, should he get his own way.

But this was a new sort of power he hadn’t been ready to take into his incendiary hands. The power over her heart was one he didn’t know what to do with.

If she was not careful, the villains would find her, and make sure her winds would dim to a breeze, and then nothing at all.

All because she was letting him get the better of her.

She was letting him hurt her.

Whether he wanted to or not.

There he had been. Within the clutches of the villains, being pulled into a plan that was surely bigger than himself. His eyes took in all he could see in that moment, panicked and blown out, grasping frantically at all they could catch.

Only one thought processed, though.

Her eyes, through the trees, her winds blowing hair and tears about.

For the first time ever....

Bakugou allowed himself to mirror her, his face showing something akin to pain, and suffering.

And then they were gone along with him.

She was reduced back to nothing more than a breeze through the forest, as always when he was gone.

My Hero Academia This anime helped me through a lot of depression and anxiety that followed coming out to my family and work and friends and I’ve grown so much stronger bc of how amazing the characters in this series are fjdka;f

Fruits Basket My favorite anime when i was 13. I related a lot to Kyo and Hatsuharu, but as I became an adult and wanted to outgrow my edgy toxic teenager behavior I started to really admire Tohru and want to be like her.

Banana Fish  this fucking anime hit so many hard memories and toxic situations i’d been in as far as sexual abuse goes and the love between the protagonists gives me hope for good loving relationships with friends jfdka;fd;a

Inuyasha It was my first anime obsession when i was 11 LMAO I’m so attached to the story and characters still after over a decade and some years. 

Spiral THIS ANIME IS SO UNDERRATED ITS SO GOOD I LOV E THE CHARACATERS SO MUCH it was my other fave in middle school aside from FuruBa

Yuri on Ice This anime hit close to home with how I process feelings fjdkla;fd; it’s so freaking good I love everyone

Space Dandy This anime is so freaking cool aesthetically and I love Dandy also i was high on codeine when watching a lot of it so I might just be more impressed than I should’ve been x’D

One Punch Man This anime is so unique and silly and fun and i love the original webcomic version a lot and it just... really inspired me when i needed it years ago!

YuGiOh! yugioh was just the bees knees in elementary school tbh i was a fan big time of the characters and game... i had so many cards... and I collected dragon theme cards 

I My Me Strawberry Eggs I remember watching this in middle school then showing it to zee as an adult thinking WHAT THE FUCK DID I WATCH so as an adult i see how shittily problematic this anime was but i feel like the whole gender swapping between characters was something that really stuck with me jkfdajfda; horribly inappropriate anime tho (no gifs sadly)

The war had made him quiet, forcing his loud, arrogant, abrupt demeanour to fizzle out quickly after it started. Like the rest of them, he couldn’t escape the way it scarred him, left him a shadow of the man he used to be.
