Syo thought he could take on all of these guys by himself; he truly did. But the reality of the situation was that he was just too small. He wasn't big like Ren or Alec. He wasn't weak. But if his hits couldn't land what was the point? His hits weren't landing, but theirs all were. He was probably going to lose this fight.

Members need rest? Chan knows best!
Tumblr media
Words: 4.4k Lee(s): Skz Ler: Channie
Chan laid back after the cruel hours of idol work, feeling his bones turn to mush under the comfortable mattress. The fans had been swarming him like bees to honey the entire day, and don’t get him wrong, he loves stays as much as the next member, but it was tiring to deal with it continuously. A soft smile grazed his face tiredly, finally slipping away into dreamland after what felt like an eternity of staring at the ceiling who glared back at him, courtesy of insomnia.
Then he heard it.
Loud screams of excitement rang through the halls like a fire alarm, making his ears ring. Apparently although the leader was more than done with all the shenanigans he had been through for the day, his members weren’t, having more than enough energy to spare. He closed one eye temporarily, hoping the members would get the hint when the oldest didn’t exit to join in. Alas, they were clueless, only making the noise grow in volume as what sounded like Hyunjin and Changbin arguing rang throughout the halls.
Slamming open his room door, he glared daggers at all 7 kids, who stopped right in their tracks at the long pang of the wood slamming against the wall. The daggers were a cold sting to their heart, making the kids cower into a corner with fear as the oldest grew closer. He sighed, he didn’t want to instil fear into his children whenever he was upset, it hurt to see them on the verge of tears as if he was going to tear them apart limb by limb.
And that’s when he thought of it.
“10 seconds, go hide.” He whispers without context, relieved when the members slowly come undone from their bundle, which he thought was adorable, maybe he would scare them more often. They all looked up at him in confusion, eyes glistening with what he didn’t know were tears or happiness that they weren’t going to die, making his heart melt when he found himself being looked up upon by 7 curious puppies. However, all fun comes to an end, he was meant to punish them after all. He didn’t respond, only counting down slowly, either way it made the kids shriek and run to hide, even if they had no idea what was going on.
If they couldn’t sleep when needed, Chan would ensure they were tired enough.
Trekking along the halls, he hummed a soft tune that echoed eerily throughout the halls, a warning call to the hiding children. He smirked, all of his exhaustion replaced by the desperate need to find all of his children, by hook or by crook. The first kid he found was of course his first child, hiding under Chan’s own bed. A scream of surprise ensued before Jisung was pulled from under the bed by his feet, a very tickle hungry leader looming over him.
The quokka babbled and pleaded for mercy, silenced in an instant when Chan pressed his lips right onto his ribs, blowing as hard as he could as his fingers travelled into his armpits quickly, kneading and massaging the middle. Han absolutely lost it, cackling and shrieking as he tried to squirm away to no avail with the oldest sitting comfortably on his waist.
“ARGH! HYUHUHAHAHA! I’M SOHOHOHOR- EEK!” Jisung tried his best to beg, but a squeal of agony left his mouth when Chris decided on nibbling onto his ribs too, his teeth sinking into the soft flesh between the bones before vibrating his teeth gently there, sending the younger to see stars. He stomped his feet onto the floor desperately, begging for release as tears of mirth streamed down his face, decorating his chubby cheeks.
“Learned your lesson? Now go to bed.” Chan strictly told him, though it wasn’t as intimidating with that wide smile, admiring his kid that panted and wiped at his tears. Jisung nodded enthusiastically, not wanting to experience another round of that torture, it was absolutely ruthless. He didn’t know his hyung was that rough, retreating back to his room, feeling bad for the other members.
1 kid down, 6 more to go.
“Where are my kids hm? I promise I won’t be too harsh if you come out now…” He feigned innocence, singing his words. He turned his head, facing the cat den that was Minho’s room. Usually anyone entering that den was prohibited, even Chan himself, who got quite the harsh scolding from the younger when the older was caught snooping in his room. But he knew he was hiding there, using his kitty privileges to his advantage. He barged in, and lo and behold there he was, resting comfortably on his bed as if Bangchan wouldn’t know of his safe haven.
“W-What are you doing here?! You c-can’t just- AH!” Minho’s scolding which was merely a ploy to hide his anxiousness, not really hidden with the stuttering he was doing. The older simply lunged at the cat without hesitation, letting out sweet Aussie giggles as he wrestled the bunny down. It wasn’t that much of a fight, seeing how he was the second strongest in Stray Kids, easily pinning those arms high above his head, seated nicely on his plump thighs.
“You were saying, cutie?” Chan giggled lowly when the bunny’s face burned a bright red at the name call, Lee Know would never get used to those compliments no matter how many times the older one did it. He kicked under Chris’s hold, trying to lodge himself out of the weight placed off of him. All was well until Minho felt fingers drum onto his lower belly, the fabric of his tank top doing absolutely nothing to protect him.
“Nah ah~ You had so much energy to wake me up right? I’ll tire you out just fine.” The oldest tutted before sinking his fingers right into the younger’s v-line, kneading all too close to his hips and thighs. A piercing shriek left his mouth before he descended into witch-like cackles, his hands weakly pulling at the fingers that invaded his waistline, even with his shirt it felt like they were vibrating right onto his weak spot.
“ARGH! HYUHAHAHA! NAHAHAT THERE! PLEA- NOO!” Another shriek left him when he felt hair brush along his ear before teeth sunk into his neck, nibbling along the pudgy skin that gathered under his ear. Stamping his feet he begged and squealed for mercy, slamming down his chin to his collarbone to block out the head, hands tugging at the fingers that wouldn’t stop kneading his skin, it was all futile. Until tears were soaking his shirt collar, which didn’t take long, he was released from his prison. Minho panted and gasped for air on the bed, curling up into himself. Chan didn’t even have to tell him to sleep, the younger’s eyes closing and promptly falling asleep.
2 kids down, 5 more to go.
Quietly creaking the door shut to the cat’s den, he snuck around the rooms, eyes eventually landing onto his soulmate, none other than his Aussie bro, hiding snugly in a cupboard. Rushing over, he pulled the chick out, more concerned at the weird angle the blonde was in, back following the curve of the cupboard, creeping him out. He held Felix high in the air with his hands under Lix’s underarms to hold him there, inspecting for injuries. The younger sighed, hoping he had forgotten all about the punishment. What a fool he was.
Once ensuring the chick wasn’t injured, Chan gave him a disappointed and knowing look. The sunshine had a terrible habit of doing anything that he could to win or hide, sometimes it was quite the danger. Too bad for Felix, it just added onto the list of reasons on why he should be punished. The sunshine looked genuinely upset at that look, frowning as he slumped under the leader’s arms, whispering a sorry under his breath.
“You’ll definitely be sorry.” Before the sunshine could retort a question of confusion, he felt a mushroom of hair slip under his shirt, lips attaching to the top of his abs, settling on one of the packs near the ribs before blowing harshly. He shrieked, falling into loud, squeaky hysterics as his feet wiggled fruitlessly under the older. He couldn’t move anywhere besides twisting and turning to the side, which only made the sensations worse. Oh how Felix majorly regretted waking Chan up, he was pinned high in the air unless he could pull himself up, which was not possible with the tight grip that held his waist high up.
“PLEHEHHEASE! NOHOAHAHA!” Felix howled with laughter when it in fact didn’t stop, the older’s lips delicately brushing along the younger’s abs before blowing on each pack harshly, before he was face to face with his navel. The sunshine could feel the warm breath that blew into it, making him giggle nervously as he looked down to plead for mercy.
“W-Wahahait! I-I’m sohohory! I wohohon’t do it ahahagain- NO HYUNG!” Felix collapsed when Chan began to nibble along the rim of his belly button, shaking his head both in denial to stop and to rub his fluffy hair along the victim’s tummy, making him squeal. Felix went limp in Chris’s hold, unable to push at his head, only kicking his feet out and shaking his own head as he begged for it to stop. His throat grew hoarse, vision blurring up with tears as he saw the light itself.
Maybe he actually did, because the next thing he knew he felt himself being laid down, seeing his own dreams within seconds. He wondered if he had passed out, only realising that he had fallen asleep the moment Chan had stopped, and was cradled and tucked into bed without another word. He smiled softly, maybe the leader wasn’t as ruthless as he thought, continuing his sweet dreams calmly.
That was 3 kids down, 4 more to go…
Not long after the leader had gone chicken hunting, he immediately found a chick’s predator, a fox. The fox hibernated peacefully under blankets and pillows, making Chan squeal like a school girl at the adoring sight. His heart melted with cupid’s arrow pierced through it, approaching the youngest quietly not to disturb him. As much as he favourites the maknae line, he was hungry for tickles, and he was going to get them all like Pokemon.
“Baby? Are you awake?” A soft whisper coaxed the youngest out of his slumber, yawning that made Chan want to kick his feet absolutely everywhere while giggling. Jeongin nodded slowly, still dazed from being woken up from his slumber. Hands wrapped around his waist, pulling him into a tight cuddle under the sheets. They laid in silence for a good while, Chan almost forgetting what he was here for having the cutie in his arms.
Almost.
“Are the scars on your face still there?” Chan murmured softly into Jeongin’s ear, seemingly out of the blue. They both shuddered at the memory, but swallowing his nerves he could feel the nod in the darkness of his room. And then came a sniffle. Chris squeezed the other’s waist tighter, consoling his insecurities that welled up deep in his heart. He needed to comfort him, and needed it now he did.
So why not kill two birds with one stone?
Chan gently pressed his lips to the skin of the younger’s scars, trailing his lips softly over the rough skin. He smiled when he got a soft squeak and sweet giggles in return, his hands that once laid protectively over his waist holding his hands down, ensuring there was nothing to hide that smile.
“Hyung! W-Whahaha!” Jeongin’s words were cut off with another squeak when fingers traced delicate shapes and hearts into his sides and tummy, along with the persistent loving kisses that rained down onto his scars. His cheeks soon turned a bright red, flustered out of his mind that his gentle loving did wonders to himself, not wanting to admit it. There came no response, only a soft hum that vibrated in ticklish motions along his skin, before continuing his chaste kissing all over his scars.
“Plehehease it tickles so bahahad!” He squeaked out meekly, squealing sharply when teeth nibbled and lips kissed along the back of his ear, close to his neck. Not many people knew, but the members more than often took advantage of that sensitive patch of skin, whenever they did so much as go close to that spot, shoulders automatically scrunched up to protect himself. He fell into high pitched cackling, trying to turn around to no avail with Chan’s hands tight around his torso that bonded his arms together.
“HYUAHAHHA! NOHOHO!” He kicked out beneath the tight cuddles, shaking his head when he realised any attempt to leave was completely futile, left to suffer as so under the hands of the leader. Chris simply cooed, whispering compliments through nibbles and kisses that made Jeongin feel like his face was on fire. Only when he felt Jeongin go limp eventually was he released, cuddled properly to sleep before the oldest slipped away, like a shadow in the night’s sky.
That was 4 kids down, 3 to go.
Sneaking away into the puppy’s enclosure now, he scrambled and turned the room upside down, eager to find Seungmin. His search was fruitless, no signs of any puppy baby being in the room. Or so he thought, when he found the child’s legs peeking out from what he initially thought were a normal bundle of clothes. They didn’t move, nor breathe at first, leading Chan to think he might’ve had a hard time breathing in there, instantly activating his dad instincts.
Grabbing the puppy’s feet, he dragged him out, seeing a red faced Seungmin. Well at least he was right to think he struggled breathing, letting Seungmin catch his breath calmly as he waited. He wasn’t a monster, despite his ruthless attacks he didn’t want to go overboard after all, only seeking to tire his babies out. Once done, he securely headlocked the younger’s feet high in the air, a panicking Seungmin on the floor as he tried to sit up to get his feet back to no avail.
“D-Don’t! If you do, you're old!” Seungmin threatened with a hiss, though Chan knew behind those walls his heart was tugged down by embarrassment and anticipation, and boy was he going to take that to his advantage.
“Still wanna talk back like this hm?” Chan hummed, his fingers descending on one of the willing soles to trace gently along it, under his toes, to his arch then his heel, and repeating. The puppy screeched and giggled like a maniac, not hysterically but it felt so ticklish, so so ticklish with all the anticipation that welled inside his heart. He was lying if he said he didn’t deserve this, but it was torture!
“I-I’m sohohory! Plehehehase dohohon’t tease mehehe!” Seungmin pleaded desperately, unable to take the soft scratching up and down his soles for any longer. It drove him just as crazy as normal tickling, though he would’ve much rather had that than whatever torture method this was.
“You wanna be tickled? Okay!” Chan bubbled enthusiastically, before his manicured nails went haywire onto his bare feet, scratching along any surface of the soft skin he could find. Seungmin shrieked as loudly as he could before descending like those fingers into hysterics, tugging at his feet as his hand pounded into the floor. With the added anticipation along with those nails that felt horrible, he was driven ballistic, it took less than a minute before tears streamed down his face.
“I-IT’S SOHOHO BAHAHAD! PLEHEAHAHAHA! HYUHUHUNG!” He thrashed, tried to kick, arched his back but nothing released himself from the head lock on his feet, begging for mercy that was granted once he saw that Seungmin looked on the verge of passing out, sweat falling down his forehead like it was the most intense workout he’s ever had. Chan smiled sweetly in contrast to the torture he’s putting his children to, kissing away the tears on the puppy’s cheeks before carrying him like a bag of rice, plopping him down and promptly tucking him in.
“Sleep, or else.” Chan’s tone was strict, dripping was threats as his fingers wiggled towards Seungmin one last time, eliciting a squeal before he went out to let him sleep.
That was 5 kids to go, now the last 2 whom he planned the most for…
He pondered where the loud duo could be, steps of his feet drumming against the wooden floors that creaked sullenly when he walked. He entered the art room, a quiet wave of serenity washing over him the moment his feet touched the marble floor. It was silent here, a barricade keeping out the noises that crashed Hyunjin’s focus whenever he tried to make art sealed shut, letting his hands dance over canvases when his feet weren’t on the floor.
Smiling softly at the peace of the room, he snapped his head at the sound of pencils drawing smoothly onto the canvas. Was Hyunjin seriously drawing? A pang of guilt shot through his heart, he’d hate to ruin the ferret’s drawing with his want to punish him, he loved their passion in their respective hobbies, enjoying admiring them in their field of strength more than anything.
Which is why he set up a trap.
Holding a paintbrush in his hands, he tapped gently onto the wall, and almost in an instant a pair of ferret ears peeked from the wall, crawling over and inspecting Chan, as if a cat finding something interesting. The older chuckled softly, letting the analysis happen without a worry, he looked very much adorable this way anyway. Eventually the older got bored, scooping the artist up without a word and planting him onto the bed of the room, where Hyunjin mostly slept when he stayed up late at night.
“You argued quite loudly with Changbin, and now you act like you don’t deserve punishment?” Chan scolded, but the smile he wore was much less intimidating. Grabbing his wrists he pinned them high, high above his head, stretching out his shirt to reveal his tummy entirely. The younger visibly panicked, babbling pleas of apologies as he watched the paint brush he was so curious about draw closer to his tummy. Shaking his head, he was begging on his knees, or lying down, for this not to happen.
“Since you were drawing, how about I draw for you?” With that, Chan attached his lips to Hyunjin’s stomach, blowing long and torturous raspberries all over. Hyunjin shrieked, his sensitivity hitting new peaks as he stomped and cackled.
“ARGH AHAHAHAH! I CAHAHAHN’T TAHAHAHKE IT!” Hyunjin squealed out desperately, trying to pull his arms down from being held like ropes up to head, unable to do anything but thrash like a fish out of water. Chan grumbled when screeches filled the air, maybe he should’ve just ended it at Jeongin. But no matter, there wouldn’t be anymore screeching soon enough.
Lifting his lips from the tortured tummy, Hyunjin panted and gasped for air, pleading for mercy as he pulled at his arms, putting out his lower lip to make him look all the more miserable. Unfortunately, the judge did not rule in his favour, as right then he felt the paintbrush dip into his navel, painting delicate strokes that made him shriek before cackling like a maniac, digging his heels into the bed.
“OHOHO MY GAHAHAHD! MAHAHAKE IT STAHAHAP!” He cried out, going absolutely crazy as if he had lost his wits, much to Chan’s fun. He enjoyed seeing the drama queen being himself, wanting and craving more laughter for his ensemble of a punishment. He knew that the ferret would tap out soon, but those flushed cheeks and crinkled eyes made it hard to resist.
“One last finale…” Chan stuck his lips onto Hyunjin’s side, blowing as hard as he could. A scream loud enough to wake up the entire dorm rang out before it turned pin drop silent, Hyunjin silently begging for mercy as his throat turned hoarse and quiet. The older’s canvas was finished, letting him go as he watched the artist curl up into a ball, giggling away the tingles. He tucked Hyunjin into bed, being careful not to touch him as he twitched in agitated motions from how hard he was wrecked. Leaving the second last room, he ventured out, tickle hungry enough to say he was starving for his last victim.
6 kids down, now for the last one, he’d be saving the best for last.
Humming a soft tune, Chan spins around the halls gleefully, his mood to wreck his children increasing by the second. It put his nerves on end, sent his heart pounding and heightening his senses. He practically flipped the dorm upside down trying to find the last child of a rapper, nowhere to be found. Just as he heaved a sigh of frustration and stomped his feet with a pout, a squeal came from the chick’s coop, a squeal he knew anywhere else.
Bolting and barging right into the brownie boy’s room, he swung open the door faster than lightning, face to face with Minho’s babies, wrestling on the pillows. His eyes met Changbin’s in an instant, boring holes that went straight through the rapper’s soul, sending a chill down his spine. Believe me when I said he dashed out as fast as Chan came in, squealing for his life as a ravenous Chan chased him down.
Unfortunately, the dwaekki was caught almost as soon as he left, hoisted up into the air and slumped onto Chan’s shoulder as if he weighed air. As they trekked into Chan’s bedroom, Changbin squirmed and thrashed, trying to pull away the hands locked around his waist.
“You made me suffer. Through. All. That. Finding. You are so. So. Getting. It.” Chan emphasised his firm point, each full stop he made containing a poke somewhere on the younger’s body, from his ribs to his sides, then his back to his hips, it made Changbin squeal loudly with each poke. Thrown on the bed, the oldest took the sweater he originally intended to wear to sleep before he was disturbed, now tying Changbin’s hands above his head, making him whimper in fear.
“Since you made me go through all that finding, I’ll tell you exactly what I’m going to do to you. First, I’ll scratch these nails into your ribs, right into the crevices while whispering sweet compliments into your ear, not to mention blow wind into them. Then, I’ll knead your hips gently, not enough to make you hysterical but you’ll buck like a wild bull. To keep you down, I’ll nibble along that cute pudge of your tummy, I just bet it’ll be unbearable to you. But too bad, it won’t stop till I feel that I’ve had enough and don’t feel hungry. Aw~ You blushing?”
Chan cooed after meticulously plotting and spilling his actions that would be happening to the poor rapper underneath, whose face and ears were already on fire before anything even happened. He shook his head desperately, digging his heels into the bed as the cat fiddled with his tongue, unable to get words out. Anticipation was killing him, the thought of being told exactly what was doing and having the thought of cackling himself silly drove him up the wall. He shrieked when Chan merely placed his hands underneath his shirt, the warmth of his hands making him burst into sweet high pitched giggles, eyes crinkled shut with a dimpled smile.
“What a cutie~ Haven’t even touched you yet and you’re so giggly? Isn’t that just the sweetest…” The oldest might’ve been a tad bit sadistic for being so cruel, but he was hungry for that laughter, especially after all that searching.
“Pl-Plehehehease! I-I’m sohohohory!” Changbin meekly begged, unable to take the tendrils of anticipation that drove him crazy before any fingers or lips got the chance to wreck him silly, what an embarrassment.
“You want me to wreck you? Want me to wreck you badly?” Chan cooed sweetly with an innocent smile, masking away his sinister intentions as a squirmy Changbin only got redder in the face, nodding timidly. He smirked, he loved getting his way.
Diving his head under Bin’s sweatshirt, he did exactly what he set out to do, teeth settling onto the pudge of fat that lined his tummy before his v-line, going crazy with raspberries and nibbles onto it. His fingers drilled into his thighs, the inner section where the skin would clash the thighs together, switching between his nails scribbling up and down to squeezing it relentlessly.
To say Changbin went crazy was an understatement, a loud, shrill scream akin to Hyunjin’s left his mouth before he cackled himself insane, trying first to close his legs before they were open back up promptly, arching his back, but it only pressed that dreaded mouth against his bare skin more, forcing him to crash back down.
“ARGHAHAHAHAAH! YAHAHAHAA!” He couldn’t even get words out, only shaking his head as he tugged hard at the sweater, who suffered in agony from the sheer strength it was being tugged at, but didn’t relent to let his hands free. Chan chuckled slowly, mumbling against his pudge that made him squeal.
“Can’t even speak anymore Bin? How adorable.” Was all that left his mouth before he got busy on his tummy again, Changbin absolutely hated how his Hyungs knew exactly where to make him go ballistic, his fingers digging into his wrists in ticklish agony. His howling didn’t even make it to two minutes before it cut off, hoarsely but silently begging for mercy as tears streamed down his face like rivulets.
Chan let up, he wasn’t out to kill after all. Lifting himself out of Changbin’s shirt and untying him, he snuggled into Changbin’s hair, taking in the sweet scent of strawberries and kissing the top of his head sweetly. His hands did his usual routine of tracing those hearts into his cheeks, making the younger smile shyly through his greedy panting. They both fell asleep, both tired from hunting and being hunted.
At least now the members knew what was not to mess with now, especially at night when there was a tired chan in bed trying to sleep.

They don't need me- A Jayden Shiba imagine
So I am 18 years old and I still find myself crushing on the red ranger of the Power Rangers Samurai aka Jayden Shiba (in the first season) and I just feel like I have to write my imaginations I feel like it'll be fun. Plus, no one knows who I am here so I wont get mocked :)
Imagine this: you switch places with Kevin when the nighlock takes possession of him, believing that the team need him more than you, especially jayden but little does she know...
Episode : I've got a spell on Blue
PS: Her name is Ember, imagine her as you want, and she has the ability to manipulate fire and able to preform protection spells (think of her as bloom from winx club I guess)
Yes, I know this is a major twist in the plot but this is how I always imagine it.
credits to power rangers, they own everything.
____________________________________________________________
After a fight with the Nighlock had gone south, the rangers and Ember were on their way back to the dojo where Mentor was waiting for them. Concern clear on face.
It only grew as he saw the cuts and bruises and torn clothes.
"this isn't good, its going to very hard to break that monsters spell on the tiger zord and Kevin" he said as he followed them inside and walked along side Jayden.
Mike, Emily and Mia all sat down whilst Ember leaned against the wall, groaning in pain as her entire body ached from being slashed by Kevins spin sword. She wanted to use her powers to defend herself but at the same time, she didn't want to risk hurting Kevin with her fire power.
Jaydens head turned quickly after hearing the noise, feeling the smallest bit of concern but quickly covering it again and turning to mentor.
"we need a plan" he said firmly.
"Jayden, you must be prepared to make tough choices if need be" mentor says to him.
"I know Ji" Jayden replies.
a pause takes over the room before he speaks again.
"But lets figure out a way to break the nighlocks hold on Kevin before it gets to that"
The rangers look solemnly at one another.
But Ember had her own thought progress going on.
The rangers look really upset, I can imagine they are all very worried for Kevin. I understand why, Kevin is the brains of the Samurai rangers and trains harder than anybody else. He gets along with everyone, well maybe not so much with Mike but its gotten better
She quitely snickers to herself at that last bit before she continues to think.
They need him, otherwise the whole team might fall apart
A thought popped into her head.
What if… What if I could trade places with Kevin? I mean I am probably more valuable than Kevin because of my powers, I would be of more use to the nighlock. Besides, I’m not one of the rangers or part of their group, they need Kevin more than they need me.
Hopefully the protection spells will enable me to break the nighlocks hold before the rangers find out
Suddenly, she feels determined to return Kevin to the rangers.
"Excuse me for a second" she says quietly to the others before dashing off the her room, hoping that the others think she just needs to lay down.
When the rangers start to chatter again, she quietly walks to double doors, pulls them open and walks out, closing the door quietly behind her. She takes off for the forest.
__________________________________________________________
"Show yourself nighlock!"
As soon as she got to the forest, she immediately starts trying to attract the nighlocks attention. She spins around in circles, hoping to catch a glimpse of him somewhere.
"I have a deal for you!" she yells into the air.
When that doesn't spark anything, she tries again.
"I am more useful than the blue ranger, I will be able to inflict more damage and pain on the rangers. Release the blue ranger and take control of me instead!!" suddenly, she hears the sound of lightning
He's here.
"hmm I know you, you're the rangers little pet who always stays behind and does nothing" he retorts.
"that's one way to phrase it" she shrugs her shoulders.
He points a claw at her "how do I know you're not lying"
Ember smirks.
She closes her eyes and when she opens them, her eyes are a bright burning orange. She raises her hands up and out comes fire, growing larger and larger, she moves her wrists to spread the fire around them, creating a ring and trapping them both. With two snaps of her fingers, the fire is gone.
"hmmm color me impressed" the nighlocks hums and Ember nods her head in acknowledgement. A pause follows after.
"you have yourself a deal!" the nighlock exclaims loudly.
In a cloud of blue mist, Kevin appears and is still wearing his ranger suit. A mass of dark blue and black colored substance rises out of him before exploding in the air, cleansing Kevin of the monsters possession. He falls to the ground and catches his breath and his suit disappears from his body. He stands up and he is taken by surprise when he lays eyes on Ember.
"Ember, what are you doing?" he asks alarmed when he spots the nighlock not too far away from him.
"Kevin, before you do something stupid please listen to me. You are free to return to the rangers. They need you okay? more than they need me, especially Jayden" she says, her voice taking a sorrow tone.
"Ember, what did you do??"
"She traded places with you, claimed that she is more useful" the nighlock laughed and Kevin is shocked and can't figure out what to say. This was quite a heavy sacrifice she was making.
" Please tell them I'm sorry for leaving without telling them" she whispers.
"Run!!" she yells one last time.
Kevin takes off to the Dojo, running as fast as he can to warn his fellow rangers
The nighlock unleashes a blast, directly targeting her. The impact of the blast sent her to the ground, where the spell works its way into her body and into her brain. She groans in as the spell takes ahold of her. After a few seconds, she stands up and her eyes are bright purple. The nighlock has control of her now.
"The rangers don't know what's coming for them"
______________________________________________________________
After running for what seemed like eternity, Kevin finally made it to the Dojo. He frantically rips open the doors and runs inside to find the rangers sitting in a circle on the chairs surrounding the map table.
The heads Jayden and Mentor shoot up and quickly stand up once they see Kevin standing there, completely frantic and breathing heavily. The rest of the rangers had retired to their rooms to get some rest and recuperate.
Jayden walks up to Kevin carefully, not sure if they are being tricked or not. He places a hand on Kevins shoulder and finds out that it really is Kevin. He smiles and squeezes his shoulder.
"Welcome back Kevin" Jayden says, relief filling him. Then he asked "how did you get here?"
"Ember, she... she... she took my place, she traded places with me so that the Nighlock has control of her instead of me" he says quickly.
"She did what?!" Mentor exclaims
Jayden could not comprehend the words Kevin has just said. Immediate concern and sorrow fills him as he thinks of the girl whom he's begun to feel things for. Sure, he didn't think anything of it to start with, but as she remained with the rangers and spent more time with them, Jayden grew to care for her. Yes, he cares for all of the rangers but it's different with Ember. He gets nervous when their eyes meet across the room, he gets scared whenever she is injured in battle, he admires how close she's grown with Mia and Emily, he loves how she checks up on him every now and then. And most importantly, she makes him feel good and at ease, like the rest of world and it's problems just faded away. One might say, he developed feelings for her.
"She said that you guys needed me more than we needed her, especially you, Jayden" Kevin mutters quitely.
"She thinks we don't need her?" Jayden asked sorrowfully, feeling great sadness that she came to feel this way.
Kevin nodded sadly.
" Okay new plan. We need to get Ember back, she is now our first priority" Jayden says fiercely, determination crossing his features.
"We need to destroy that nighlock before he hurts her or makes her hurt innocent people" Kevin says and the rest agreed with her. Suddenly, everyone knew what to do and they would do everything in her power to do accomplish the task. Get Ember back at all cost.
"No, I'll go alone, you need to rest just like the others, you need to make sure you okay before you can fight" Jayden tells him. Kevin knew he was right and nodded his head before going to his room.
Jayden runs to doors, pulls out his sammurizer and morphs into his ranger suit. He goes to find the Nighlock that has taken Ember from him.
____________________________________________________________
The Shib alarm starts sounding out in the entire house and the rangers run to Mentor who has already opened the water map.
"Mentor, where's Jayden? Mike asked.
"He's already gone to battle the Nighlock" he informs the rangers.
"Are you kidding me? what about Ember? the Nighlock will make her fight Jayden" Mike states irritated.
"Hopefully that won't happen but it our duty to protect the people. He may have no choice." Mentor sighs.
"There's always a choice!" Mike exclaims
"This is bogus"
Mentor turns and walks around him "Have faith in your leader, Mike"
"Mike, we have to help Jayden" Mia says.
" And hope Ember comes to her senses" Emily adds on.
The rangers run to the join Jayden at the battlefield.
______________________________________________________________
Jayden stands in front of the Nighlock, Ember standing right behind him with a cold expression on her face as she observes Jayden.
"It's about time red ranger" the nighlock bellows out but Jayden's focus is solely on Ember.
"Ember please wake up" he says to her. She smirks and only shrugs her shoulders in response, the spell forcing her.
"Not going to happen, red" The nighlock says before turning to Ember.
"Make this fight count" he says and she nods her head and moves closer to Jayden.
"Or I'll make her use her powers on herself"
The rest of rangers arrive just on time, holding up their morphers.
"Jayden, we're here to help" Mike states.
"No, I can't put anyone else at risk" Jayden rejects Mike's and the others aid.
"You want a show? I'll give you the show of your life, Nighlock" Jayden says beforing morphing into his suit.
"I wish I had some popcorn. Fire girl, attack!" The Nighlock yells before jumping on top of some containers to watch the battle.
She moves her hands to her side, fire sprouting out of them immediately and she advances towards Jayden and the two slowly start to circle each other. Jayden goes into a stance and Ember sees that as her sign to attack. With a flick of her wrist, she throws the fire fire ball towards Jayden
Jayden deflects her attack by using his sword as a barrier, immediately after, he lunges for her. He swipes his sword, Ember holds up her arms, a magical armor protecting her from getting cut and she blocks his attack. This left her flank open and Jayden used that to his advantage.
Before she could see it, Jayden kicks her to the ground. She wheezes as air is knocked out of her and she holds her sides.
"What are you thinking thats Ember!" Mike yells out but his statement goes unheard.
Ember quickly stands up again and moves to launch another attack but.. she stops and lets out a a gasp as she falls to the ground again. Ember is trying to take back control and the rid the control the nighlock has over her.
Groaning, she clutches her head as a headache begins to form but she has to push through the pain, she just has to. She starts thrashing and shaking on the ground, fighting the monsters control over her. The pain is building but she can't give up, she's so close.
"Ember?" Jayden asked concerned and confused.
"Jayden" Ember whimpered.
"Jayden please" she doesn't know why she's saying please, she just wants him to know that she's trying.
"Ember, you can fight this, I know you can. I know you think we don't need you but we do, we all do.. especially me. So please, come back to us... come back to me" He says softly.
That was all she needed to hear. Her screams and cries grow louder and her thrashing becomes more violent and just when she thought it was never going to end, she lets out a final scream and the same black and dark blue substance was pulled from her eyes and mouth, completely expelling the dark magic from her body.
She relaxes and lays flat on the ground, trying desperately to catch her breath and let her senses return to her.
"No!! what on earth did you do !!!"The nighlock screams, angry that his plan did not go accordingly.
Ember sits up carefully and looks the monster dead in the eye.
" I broke your spell. Did you really think I was just going to let you control me that easily?" she laughed dryly.
"But how?? only I can reverse that spell!!" He yelled.
"Guess I'm just stronger than you think" she smirked, happy that she foiled the nighlock's plans.
Her eyes move over to Jayden, only to find him already looking at her with pride and admiration, a small smile present on his face. He nodded and she understood.
They were going to talk later.
(Authors note: my patience was wearing thin so I decided to go ahead and skip it)
______________________________________________________________
The rangers were enjoying a board game where their zords where the game pieces. Suffice it to say, it was not going well for Mike...
Ember was sat next to Emily, she didn't have enough energy to play but she was happy to observe them and watch the smiles on their faces. She leaned her head on Emily's shoulder as her eyes flicker over to Kevin and Jayden who were having a quite discussion.
Anticipation and nervousness came over her, she and Jayden hadn't talked yet and she was only growing more anxious.
Was he mad at her? was he sad? disappointed?
her thoughts were going haywire.
Suddenly, she needed fresh air and walked out the open door to sit on one of the stone benches. She moved to the furthest one away from the laughter and chatter from her friends, wanting to enjoy the open night sky.
But she had a feeling she was not alone and she knew who it was.
"You scared me today"
She turned around and she was right. Jayden followed her outside.
He sat down beside her and examined her face more closely. It was still a little bit banged up but the cuts and bruises were healing fast, thanks to her exacerbated blood. He was relieved and Ember smiled at him.
"I'm sorry" she whispered out before moving her eyes back down to her lap
"Why did you do it? Why did you let that Nighlock do that to you? Jayden asked her quietly and she let out a sad sigh.
"I just thought that you guys needed Kevin more than you needed me. I wanted to help the team, even if it meant sacrificing myself. I don't know, I just feel like I'm a burden to you guys and I'm not even part of the group and I thought I was finally doing something to help you" she opens up to him.
Jayden grabs her chin with two fingers and moves her face so she was looking at him.
"Ember, you are not a burden and you are needed. Mia and Emily need you, Mike needs you because who else keeps him from wrecking the house and Kevin doesn't show it but he needs you to, he believes you provide a great advantage in battle. And I need you too" she blushes at his heartfelt words and moves to pull her face away but is met with resistance.
"There is something else. Ever since I met you, I've come to care for you and you make me feel things I have never felt before. Your smile makes me feel at ease, the way you laugh seems to make my heart race. Every time a monster hurts you, I feel this urge to protect you, Everytime I can see you are scared, I want to comfort you and the way you just are, it amazes me so much. I have feelings for you, Ember and I've tried to fight it but it's pretty difficult when a person like you is so beautiful and caring"
Ember could not believe it, all this time he felt the same as her?? She thought she was insane for developing feelings for the red danger, believing full well that he was never going to see her more than a team mate or friend. But here he was, proving her wrong.
Surprise and shock flitters across her face and she processes his confession before joy and elation start to fill her until the smile that is spreading on her face begins to hurt.
"Jayden, I feel the same way" she finally gathered the courage to speak and her face moved closer to his. Slowly but surely, they lean in closer and closer until their noses touch. Ember closes her eyes and pray he won't reject her. Slowly, she feels his lips against hers and he breathing picks up along with her heart.
Before she chickens out, she closes the gap and seals their lips together in a kiss. Their lips moved slowly against each other, Jayden brings his hand up to caress her face and pull her a little closer with his other hand. Ember moves her hands and interlocks them behind his neck and craning her head.
Their kiss becomes more passionate and deeper as they continue exploring each others mouths. The butterflies in her stomach are going awol, she never thought she was going to be so lucky.
After 5 minutes of passionate kissing, the pair had to pull away from each other to catch some much needed air and lean their foreheads against each other.
"Finally!"

okay my head is killing me now, that took way too long to write. But I actually liked it, finally being able to write down one of thought imaginations.
I just felt the urge to suddenly just write and so I just pulled a random imagine from my head and it was the one with Jayden Shiba.
I might come back and do another, if the mood strikes you know :)

Warnings: you might cry, I felt like doing this, not sorry! Love you all!

As he walked toward you, his boots echoing in the silence of Stark's living room, you backed away with your heart racing, fear evident in your eyes as you watched him. His face was so handsome, so alike to how it had looked just a year ago before he fell from the Bifrost yet so unfamiliar now with his twisted personality.
"Kneel or die," he growled at you, his magic glowing around his hands and you saw it looked more poisoned than green and your heart broke for him. You knew he was being controlled, you knew he didn't want to do it. You knew your death was the key to releasing him.
"I shall never kneel to a tyrant," you replied softly, your eyes never leaving his as he grabbed your neck and pulled you toward him.
He scared you in that moment, his eyes so full of rage and hate that you almost believed it but you knew it wasn't him, not really. "I shall not kneel," you repeated, your voice shaking at the realisation you were sealing your death but you had to free him, "not until you are free."
Loki snarled and then his expression became controlled as a lengthy dagger appeared in his hand. "So be it," he whispered, thrusting the knife into your chest, holding you tight as you gasped and your breathing became staggered.
Your instincts screamed at you to push away, to try and seek help but you wouldn't. You couldn't. This was it. Your legs shook and you began to fall but he caught you, confusion rose into his eyes as he studied you before they landed on the dagger in his hand. His eyes were the most beautiful green that you'd ever seen now. It had worked. Killing you had freed him.
"No," he croaked, tears forming quickly in his eyes as his hand dropped the dagger in order to cup your face. "No, stay with me, stay with me," he whispered, dropping to his knees to hold your dying body.
You whimpered against his body, the pain unbearable and your body beginning to shut down but you kept your eyes on him. "It worked..." you whispered brokenly, your voice hoarse and blood trickling down from your mouth, "I... I s-saved... you."
"Indeed," he whispered in a hurry, tears falling like rivers down his cheeks, "indeed you saved me and now you must live to see the fruits of your labour!"
"I... cannot," you replied softly, a pained smile crossing your lips as relaxation began to fill your body. You were so tired. "I had to save you," you whispered, mustering up all your strength to speak with him, "I had... to... you're... their only... hope."
"No," he hissed, holding your cheek, forcing your eyes to remain open, "stay with me, I can't let you die."
You smiled at him and squeezed his wrist as you felt sleep begin to overtake your consciousness. "I... love..." you whispered softly, your words more difficult to focus on now, "...you."
Loki's eyes widened and he leaned down, pressing a kiss to your brow, sobs racking his body. "I love you too," he whispered firmly, pressing another kiss to your brow, "don't leave me... please. I'm so sorry."
But when he looked down at you, your eyes were closed and you were still. You were dead. Loki's heart shattered as he stared down at your lifeless body, caressing your cheek as he sobbed. His mind was clearer than it had been in months and he could not celebrate. He could never celebrate.
You were gone. And he... he was still here.

Read You Like A Book
Every so often the patter of the rain on the massive, storeys-tall windows would match exactly the rhythm of the music they were listening to. In the spaces between songs one could close their eyes and pretend that it was the applause for the symphony or quartet or the singular guitar that had just finished playing. The lights had been turned to an orange-ish glow, similar in ways to a fireplace, save for the strange, twisting-armed lamp that was pointing white light from over her shoulder to land on a book.
“We could’ve done this downstairs, near the actual fireplace,” Henry piped up from his chair as he used one of his bare feet to lazily scroll the phone-screen in front of him. He had wound up on a long article regarding banking and how banks had evolved over the years, and was playing a game with himself that he had become quite adept at: Seeing how far he could get through an article or page like this before it fell so far beyond his understanding that he became frustrated with it.
“Hm?” Melanie’s eyes didn’t so much as lift from the page as they continued to move back and forth across the words, one hand holding the book open and the other seemingly stuck half-way through brushing her own hair back from the side of her face. “What?”
The seven-inch tall man smirked as he turned to look at her, the massive shape of her leaned against the back of the couch with a leg sprawled down over the massive cushions and the other’s knee acting as a brace for her book-holding. “Changing the lighting is nice, but I was just saying that if you wanted it to feel like reading by a fireplace, you happen to have one.”
The giant woman smirked, moving to mark her place with a finger as she turned to him. “The rain doesn’t sound as good in the basement,” she said, “and I didn’t know if you’d find it too warm or--”
“If I ever find anything outside of your oven too warm here, I’ll be certain to let you know,” he retorted clearly, the two of them laughing. As they chuckled themselves out, he rubbed at his eyes. Staring at the phone screen made his lids feel wrinkled and droopy after so long.
“How’s tonight’s research?” She asked, her eyes moving almost hungrily back to her book. His brow furrowed slightly as he watched her, it was rare for her to be focused on anything more than conversation.
“Riveting,” he drawled sarcastically. “Though I’ve learned about all I care to about types of banks to a certain point.”
“How did you get to banking?” She asked incredulously, making a face as she went back to reading.
“I was following up on the questions of your currency from the other day and then I was suddenly here,” he grumbled, turning back to look at the screen. He could probably suffer through some more before he felt completely lost, but he still wasn’t yet sure if it was worth it.
“I can show you how to get to real books, if you like,” she offered, turning the page and leaning forward as if she’d somehow miss the words at the top of the next. “Fiction, fantasy, biographies…”
The way her hand moved away from the book again, coming back to jam the tip of her thumb between her teeth as she slipped further and further into the pages in front of her was capturing his attention more than the history of banks had, to understate the feeling. He sighed, already letting his eyes wander to the make-shift steps down to the floor. “No, thank you though,” he said. “I think I’m finished with staring at screens, for at least a while.”
“Did you w--”
“No, please,” he said, already heading for the exit from the coffee table, “I’m fine to entertain myself. Keep reading and I’ll catch up with you in a moment.”
Her eyes had never actually left the book, so when she nodded and hummed an affirmative reply he couldn’t help but to chuckle quietly to himself. He could start a fire in this room if he felt like it, and she wouldn’t notice until her pages started to blacken.
In honesty, Henry was jealous. The books that had been on the Massengale had been damaged, lost, or completely destroyed save for some of the logbooks and journals he and the men had been keeping. The one book that could’ve been considered pleasurable reading was one he had read a couple of times before, and hadn’t felt in the mood to try and pick through the warped pages to make out something he was fairly certain he could remember almost verbatim.
Whatever she was reading seemed new to her, fresh in a way that she was liable to get completely pulled into, and the ways it pinched and pulled at her expressions as she read gave away so much. Something intense had been happening, almost upsetting, but evidently they had gotten through satisfactorily as she had relaxed again.
His feet took a moment to adjust to the soft give of the cushions as he finished climbing the other make-shift stairs up to the couch. Her toes were curling… something uncomfortable happening, if the way she was biting her lip was anything to take stock in.
Melanie’s face vanished behind the book as he walked toward her, and he could only focus on the way her fingers gripped and slid against the spine, holding the thing with some noted effort against her knee. He had been past this one several times on the shelf before, and it was a full foot and a half taller than he was at least.
Her chest rose with a quick intake of breath through her nose, a faint, barely-there grunt following it as her hand moved to flick the page with a sense of impatience. This time her fingers moved to thread into the longer section of her hair, weaving into the dark roots. They didn’t grip or pull, they simply rested there, ready to react to whatever may be around the next corner of the paragraphs hanging in front of her.
Henry stood alongside the fold of her waist, her hip coming nearly to his chest where she sank into the cushion so deeply. The small man was completely amused as he watched her eyes jitter back and forth, the expression on her face growing sour. Waiting until her second hand was moving to turn the page again, he cleared his throat quietly and called up to her.
“It’s a shame you aren’t enjoying it.”
Melanie’s slight jump sent him into open laughter as she took a second to locate him, seeing only his discarded boots still on the coffee table next to his chair and then turning down at the feeling of him bracing himself on her hip, gripping the belt loop on her pants to start pulling himself up. “I just don’t like this guy very much,” she replied, watching him in confusion a second before moving to close her book. “Can I--”
“No,” Henry said, turning to look up at her after managing to get his knees onto her waist, her body rocking gently as she turned and twisted herself faintly in an attempt to guess at what he was doing. “Go back to your reading.”
“Henry,” she said, her hand dropping to move toward him and he pointed at it threateningly.
“No, I said,” he stressed with a laugh, his eyes moving up to lock with one of her massive hazel-ringed pupils. “Ignore me.”
“What are you doing?” She asked, chuckling as the book hung around her thumb like a thick bookmark. It was clear she wasn’t going to get back to her business until she had some kind of answer from him, so once he was a bit more stable he leaned up on his knees and tried to maintain all the confidence he could while every breath and twitch sent his arms out to find balance or purchase again.
“I was cur-- just curious about what you were reading,” he stammered through his wobbles. The slanted smirk and quirked eyebrow she shot at him were all the clues he needed to know she wasn’t buying what he was trying to sell. He waved a hand at her dismissively, deciding to just be blunt instead. “Go back to it, you’re ruining my fun.”
A sigh left her that took a few seconds before it washed over him like a gentle breeze, but her head turned and her hands got busy fixing her massive tome back to its spot, eyes scanning the pages a few times until she found the words she had left again. “Just let me know if you need help--”
“I won’t,” he called to her almost sing-song, gripping onto a button of her blouse as she tried to hide her laughter. “Just stay as you are and I’ll be satisfied.”
“That’s good to know,” she replied, and he watched to make sure she was reading again. Waiting, confirming she was getting lost in whatever this blue-covered book might be showing her, he knew he wasn’t completely out of her view but he was comfortable in the thought that he was at least beyond her immediate attention.
The angle was stranger, but there was still a lot he could read here. The tension in her neck muscles as she swallowed, the way her nostrils flared. He could still make it out as her cheeks began to flush. The sailor smiled to himself, this couldn’t be better; he had managed to arrive exactly as she got to something intriguing. A few small twitches here and there from her made placing his feet and hands a bit trickier as he tried to map a way to her shoulder, but that was hardly a deterrent.
Melanie’s eyes were scanning slower now, blinking more. He was attempting to take this slowly, wondering if it would be possible for her to be so engrossed in what she was reading that she’d forget about him entirely. She flipped to the next page, clacking her teeth as she did, and her free hand braced against her neck this time.
The sounds of her breathing had become softer, quicker, and more shallow as he reached to grab the highest button she had done up on her shirt, situating his feet to make the next part of the climb as swiftly as possible. He turned, attempting to land his eyes on whatever she was reading to get a hint as to what was so captivating to her that she was reading sections over and over, her cheeks still flushed.
Henry couldn’t make out much, and certainly couldn’t see anything that would have her heart pounding against her ribcage beneath him so loudly and so fiercely he felt each pump shake him faintly. He found it hard not to laugh; back home, books that would set a woman’s heart racing were thin things, easy to keep secret around the house. While he’d never disbelieve there was a difference here that made those kinds of stories seem to stretch for hundreds of pages, he found it pleasantly surprising she’d read one so openly.
Two more moves would be all it took to get him to her shoulder. Just two. Her lips were stretched in a thin line, uncomfortable, as her heart continued its loud percussive thumping.
One of his feet slipped on the jump forward, causing him to drop with a thud against her body as they both let out startled sounds, gigantic movement setting several things in motion at once.
“Henry--” she breathed in exasperation.
“I’m sorry, just-- let me go--” he stammered through his embarrassment as he squirmed under the massive hand that had landed on top of him and pinned him to her. His feet could find no purchase at her new angle, having sat up in fright at the sudden commotion. Her hand didn’t immediately remove itself, pressing him against her chest as it heaved with her breaths and rapid pulse, her body instead hesitating a moment before leaning back against the cushions.
“Sorry,” she muttered, finally lifting the weight off but keeping her palm over him. “Where,” she stressed as he started to try and push himself back up with his hands again, “are you going?”
A sigh exploded out of him, his face already red from the embarrassment of his own blunder. “Shoulder,” he admitted flatly, awkwardly trying to push her hand away before it could do what he was expecting it to: lift him directly there.
“There are so many easier ways,” she whined, a quiet chuckle escaping at the end. “Why? I’m just reading--”
“I wanted to know what you were reading!” He said defensively, giving up and throwing both of his arms over her fingers defeatedly, her thumb snaking around his back as he sulked. Her entire form shifted around him as her legs both folded up, her hand moving to let the book open from around her thumb against them and rest it there, her torso sliding further down the back of the couch.
The sailor didn’t want to admit while he was literally in the giant woman’s hand that he thought it was funny to see how far he could get while she was ignoring him, lost in a novel as deeply as she was. He tried to ignore the queasiness that came over him every time he was grabbed like this, just anticipating that upsetting squeezing feeling from all around as his legs dangled and his gravity shifted beyond all of his control, but it didn’t come.
Melanie continued to shift in minute-but-gigantic ways around him as he felt his body slide backwards up over her body, stopping just before her shoulder. “Here,” she said quietly, letting him go against the gentle slope of the top of her chest, just alongside her collarbone. “Is this good?”
Henry’s cheeks were blotchy and red as he adjusted himself into a kind of sitting-leaning position, eyes dropping to the book. The side of her face was warm enough he could feel it radiating from her own red cheeks, and her heart and breathing were only now settling back to something less panicky. “This is fine,” he said, leaning on one elbow to shove the collar of her shirt a bit further away from him with the other arm. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” she replied a bit pointedly, her head turning and the nearest eye trying to focus on him, giving up quickly. The smirk or smile that tugged at what he could see of her lips stung him a bit more, but nothing else followed as she moved to focus on the book again, one finger dragging over the page as she tried to remember her place. “I’m lucky I didn’t drop it,” she explained after a moment of their half-awkward, half-comfortable silence. “There’s no page numbers for some reason.”
In spite of his ruined fun, Henry’s eyes were scanning the pages that were open in front of him. Names he didn’t recognize, confusing out-of-context dialogue, something about an alibi… but nothing exceptionally scandalous was standing out. Nothing that would make any woman he had known get their heart fluttering and their body tense with some kind of anticipation. Brows furrowed, he asked as directly as his wounded-but-still-fighting pride would allow, “I’m sorry if I interrupted anything important. What’s happening in the book?”
“Hm?” She hummed, head tipping toward him but her eyes locked on the pages again now that she’d found where she left off. “Oh, guy named Tryst is helping two women escape the… castle? Keep? I haven’t picked up the book for a while…” she chattered, the breathy ghosts of words vaguely following what she said as she mouthed what she was reading, her lips closing before he could make sense of any of them.
“Is it exciting?” he asked, hardly able to hide his confusion as he blurted the question.
“Not particularly,” she drawled on a sigh. “I’m not sold on Tryst, personally. Ren and Orangecloak I like so far, but… eh. Just not a fan of Tryst yet. Hoping I can kind of… come around on him because he’s been in this a lot so far and there’s…” the giant woman tipped the back of the book up to look at what must be another 70-75% of novel remaining. She sighed. “There’s a lot of book left for him to be in and I don’t want him to put me off of an otherwise good story.”
Henry was baffled. He was literally sitting on her, next to that massive face. He would be able to tell if she was lying; this didn’t seem like a lie.
“Why do you ask?” Melanie filled the silence again after she went back to reading.
The small man huffed quietly, crossing his legs at his bare ankles as he reclined backwards. If the book really was so… unimpressive to her, then why would she have gotten so tense? He had been right under her, watching her neck muscles strain. He watched her eyes go back over and over the page like she hadn’t read the words at all the first time. Her heart had been practically pummeling against her chest while he was there to feel it. She couldn’t lie about it if she had tried to.
As she turned the page, it really wasn’t anything scandalous or intense or frightening or… whatever he had thought it was. She was interested in it, certainly, but not to the degree he had seen; the degree that he had felt.
Her pulse and breathing now-- after the shock of his mishap had evidently finished fading-- was normal enough. It was practically unnoticeable if he wasn’t looking for it specifically, just gentle rhythms underneath him. His mouth opened to answer her when her arm shifted to adjust its hold on the book, rocking him sideways a slight. His hand swung out to find balance, landing on her neck.
She tensed; a short, shallow hiss of breath shooting into her.
Her heartbeat was so prominent suddenly he could practically hear it as well as feel it.
An apology quickly slipped out of him before he settled himself back into position, smirking faintly as it all started to click into place. “I was just asking to make conversation,” he lied, amused as he watched the fresh blush on her cheeks.
“Ah,” she said, off-handedly and distracted as her eyes were scanning the page again. “Did you want conversation? Because I can put the book down and--” “No, I’m fine.” He relaxed, sinking against her. “Don’t let me distract you.”
A soft, skeptical chuckle escaped her, but her eyes kept on their journey over the pages. He otherwise would’ve been jealous again, but…
If he wanted to pull her attention away from the book, apparently he knew exactly how to get it.

Commit to the Bit
A winter evening.
A dear friend of mine has wrangled me into an online roleplay community. In this weekly, sessions are held live in a chat client, with each of us playing our characters through our clients. My character in this particular series is Taro, and this game, as many do, has a rule on sleep; you must have your character rest for five in-game hours (it's typically about 5 minutes per hour in real time).
However, the GMs did not insist that the sleep has to be in one's own bed, and as Taro entered the high-level suite of a corporate executive, I decided to play with this.
Taro Bladehardt (Pywackett) — 01/15/2023 5:42 PM …can I sleep in the Penthouse Bedroom Excalibur — 01/15/2023 5:42 PM Nobody's told you no…
See, the aforementioned friend was, notably, at my house. They were in another roleplay earlier in the week and asked to borrow my computer for that; in turn, I was okay with playing a session while they were over. I did also offer to get them dinner; there's a place near here that has absolutely excellent burgers.
So, this is a good chance to go get those.
Or so I thought. There are a few problems here with this plan. I've already placed the order and already had my character go to bed, so we are committed to this.
But now, it is snowing. Alright. This can't be the quick run I hoped. But I promised I would go do this, so I will. I ask my friend to watch the keyboard for me; one of the GMs decided to sneak my character in this time, as well.
Sneaking is a feature of this client that masks your presence in the area; if somebody types a command that shows them who's around, it won't show anybody that's sneaking. The logic was my character was snug under the covers.
But I know them. They know me. There's better logic at play. There's comedy. Because I did not lock the suite. So when the rest of the players come in looking around for plot, they will instead have fun fun Taro jumpscare.
I head out.

It is brutally, horribly cold. The freezing air batters my lungs. I head to the restaurant; they misheard my card information over the phone, so we just have to wait to reprocess it.

My phone immediately dings.

CountNeko — 01/15/2023 6:12 PM Would you like to relay an action or you getting back soon
No, I've got this. I'll be right back.
I wait.
[18:10:43]Levi Koi: [They're in a person's bedroom.] [18:10:48]Takeru Matsuda [w/Katana]: [Enters.] At least this room is somewhat more modest… [18:11:06]Ryoko Otonashi: Oh. [Upon entering the room she goes to…] [18:11:09]Diana Eostre: A woman's room too, huh? Hooooo… [18:11:12]Ryoko Otonashi: [The dresses] [18:11:29]Takeru Matsuda [w/Katana]: Tch- It's a simulation! Let's not think of it like that! [18:11:32]Diana Eostre: …Nothing that would fit me.
I wait.

I wai- the burgers arrive. I thank them briskly, tip, and run.
And this is where I realize I've maybe not had the best thought process in the world,
[18:13:43]Takeru Matsuda [w/Katana]: Ah, I see this is one of those… What were they called? Decktops? [18:13:57]Levi Koi: Desktops. [He corrects bluntly.] [18:14:06]Levi Koi: Now let's see here… [18:14:20]Levi Koi: …Familiar formatting. [18:14:24]Ryoko Otonashi: [She takes an opulent red dress from the rack, then walks over to the boys and their computer]
as I run full speed, through a snowstorm that is picking up, my lungs burning, my legs screaming, my hands roasting with the hot foods secured only by styrofoam between them,
[18:14:47]Takeru Matsuda [w/Katana]: Right, right. So you know how to use it? I for one have never touched one before. [18:14:59]Levi Koi: …One of the names from the meeting room is here. [18:15:06]Ryoko Otonashi: Anything interesting? [She peeks over to look]
and my best friend watches me throw the door open, stumble in with a gasp, throw my shoes off, shout "BURGERS," throw those onto the kitchen table, and race into my room with my face a frozen beet-red, just to slam my hands down on the keyboard,
[18:18:28]Bed: [The bed stirs and rattles.] 18:18:28 $H: You are no longer sneaking. [18:18:35]Takeru Matsuda [w/Katana]: . . . [Takeru's eyes narrow once he finishes reading-] [18:18:39]Diana Eostre: Huh… [She continues looking at the computer.] [18:18:42]Ryoko Otonashi: …Huh? [18:18:43]Taro w/ Guitar Bag: Huh? Oh. Mornin'. [18:18:49]Ryoko Otonashi: Wha- [18:18:52]Taro w/ Guitar Bag: Huh. Busy in here. [18:18:53]Diana Eostre: … [18:19:05]Takeru Matsuda [w/Katana]: T-Taro! [His head does a complete whiplash towards him.] [18:19:08]Ryoko Otonashi: Has he been here the whole time? [18:19:12]Levi Koi: The fuck-?! [He spins around in the chair to see Taro.]

No moral of the story on this one, unless you count "hey, don't do this" as a moral. Burger was pretty good
