It's #FeminineGeniusWeek over with my friends at @springsinthedesert_ so today I thought I'd ask the question: How can we discover our own unique Feminine Genius? I think the answer is to start with listening. JPII wrote: "The human body speaks a language of which it is not the author." I’m an NFP instructor and cycle educator, so it's pretty natural for me to think about this concept of the "Language of the Body" in the context of menstrual cycle charting and its relationship to the popular term “body literacy.” For women, our cycles provide insight into the design and function of our bodies in a completely unique way. By learning how to observe and chart our cycles, we learn to listen to the language of the female body. Rather than doing all the talking, we allow our bodies to communicate to us and teach us the language which we did not author. At its core, this language says: 🤍I am designed for communion. 🤍I am designed for maternity. 🤍I am designed for abundant generosity. 🤍I am designed to give and receive love. And what I love about NFP/FAM is that it allows us to not only explore the language of the female body in general, but it also invites us to discover the ✨uniqueness✨ of our own bodies~ and thereby invites us into deeper conversation with the Creator who so lovingly formed us from the beginning. Once we have learned to listen to Language of the Body through our cycles, we are well-primed to explore many other aspects of the #FeminineGenius and what they mean for us, personally, in our quest for holiness. https://www.instagram.com/p/CTprnV7DzIg/?utm_medium=tumblr

Got these fabulous earnings @tribalvisionfestival from @__colibrilla__ ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Do they make me look feminine? I don't think so. What is it that makes something feminine or masculine? Many of the traits that are deemed one or the other are purely cultural values that don't have any actual connection to reality. There are some things that aren't and have more of a physiological reality behind them but even those aren't as balck and white as our society likes to pretend. Life is a spectrum and when we live from a place of humbleness and respect we can allow everyone to be themselves as long as they aren't forcing themselves upon another. I truly beleieve if we create an open society that has access to their needs all the bullshit will filter out. ⁣ ⁣ The corporate industrialists that are extracting our planet into death have a serious mental illness and if they would wake up to allow the resources to be funneled towards uplifting the planet without enslaving the masses to their systems to extract more energy from them for absurd amounts of financial gain things would balance out. The way creation works is energetic flow. What happens when water doesn't flow? It becomes stagnant and rots turning to poison.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Slowly as a society we're waking up to this wisdom. I see lots of positive movement happening and know things are all unfolding from a higher order. Spirit is guiding us through the crucible to lead us into a new dawn upon this garden planet. But what do I know? I'm just a mad poet dancing upon the winds of creation.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ #Feminine #feminineenergy #femininepower #femininestyle #femininetattoo #femininefashion #femininedivine #feminineboy #femininebeauty #femininemuscle #feminineboys #femininegenius #feminineart #femininetouch #femininelook #femininemagic #femininegrace #femininerising⁣⁣⁣ #Masculine #masculinebeauty #masculinegay #masculineenergy #masculinestyle #masculinefeminine #Masculinecraft #masculineidentified #MasculineHealing #masculineglamour #masculineaesthetic #masculinefragility #masculineofcenter #masculinejewelry #masculinemodel #masculinelooks #masculineside https://www.instagram.com/p/B2pHOYcB_J5/?igshid=1uamquj8fes4g

Five years ago, I truly believed I couldn't dance... . I remember looking around at other women dancing freely with a sense of envy and also for guidance on how to move my body. Instead of going within, to reveal and express my authentic movements, I tried to mimic their's. Though there was technically no wrong way to move, I remember feeling so self conscious, though I wouldn't have admitted it at the time. . The story that I had bought into was: since I wasn't able to take dance lessons as a girl and I didn't come from a culture that danced, it just was not programmed into my body and it was never going to feel natural. . Oh, how wrong I was! . Fast forward to now and many, many hours of inner-work later, and dance has become one of my primary forms of expression, healing, and ritual. . I dance nearly every day, as part of my personal practice. Just a few songs is all one really needs. Sometimes playfully, with a fast beating heart and bubbling over laughter. Sometimes, with tears streaming down my cheeks and primal roars bursting from my belly. And sometimes, so sensually and slowly, I become the embodiment of orgasmic bliss. . This unfolding within myself is what led me to start sharing sacred feminine and masculine polarity. Within this container, there are no right or wrong movements...no good or bad dancing...only deep, authentic expression. Creating a space for wholly embodied movement in this way has become one of my greatest joys! And allowed me to be witnessed fully as the last slide reveals... ____________ I'd love to hear where you're at with your movement journey... . Love it? Judge it? Longing deeply to experience it? Something else entirely? . The Special Things Women Are Given
Great News has been shared on https://apostleshop.com/the-special-things-women-are-given/
The Special Things Women Are Given
Artemisia Gentileschi, “Madonna col Bambino,” Wikimedia Commons, [Public domain]
I have seven sons and no daughters, so there’s a lot of conversation and teaching in our house about the wonderful gifts and responsibilities that are given to men. “What special things are women given?” one of my boys recently asked, in all seriousness, which reminded me that they need to know those things, too.
The immediate thing that came to mind (no doubt due in large part to the fact that the boys have spent the last year watching their baby brother grow from a bump under their mother’s shirt to the bouncing baby born four months ago) was motherhood — not the only wonderful gift and responsibility women are given, of course, but a big one, and one that isn’t given to men. The second thing I thought of was Our Lady — the fact that the greatest saint is a woman. And I loved reminding my son that both of these — motherhood and Mary — were recently celebrated as a holy day of obligation: January 1, the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.
I love that for Catholics of the Roman Rite, the new calendar year begins with this beautiful feast day — a meaningful intersection of the eighth day of Christmas with the start of the secular new year. Women everywhere should feel honored by the prominence given to Our Lady’s holy motherhood, whether or not they have children of their own, since St. John Paul II reminded us that all women are called to spiritual motherhood, and a celebration of motherhood is a celebration of something that is uniquely and exclusively feminine. (Read more about the call to spiritual motherhood in this beautiful piece.)
Knowing that the Church places as its first major feast day of the calendar year a celebration of Mary, Mother of God, and that it’s a holy day of obligation (particularly significant to my sons, since attending an obligatory non-Sunday Mass presents enough of a disruption to their normal schedule to be noticeable), is such a good lesson to my houseful of boys and their collective opinion that there’s nothing so wonderful as a brother. (When one of my boys was small, I heard him once include his dad and uncle in his roster of “brothers,” which is just the sweetest thing.)
As much as I love our all-boy family and trust God’s infinite wisdom in not giving them sisters, I’ve sometimes worried that my boys’ education in humanity is lopsided. The Church’s focus on the beauty, dignity, and importance of women has always been a gift to me, but I realized with that recent conversation with my son that it’s a gift to men as well. Documents like St. John Paul II’s Letter to Women and his apostolic letter Mulieris Dignitatem (On the Dignity and Vocation of Women), as well as St. Paul VI’s Marialis Cultus (For the Right Ordering and Development of Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary), in which the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God on January 1 was restored, will be important tools for me in helping my boys balance their love of boyhood and brotherhood with an understanding of the feminine genius.

Life with my 87 Year Old Roommate: A Battle for Motherhood
“To serve is to reign!” In my women’s Bible study a few weeks ago we reflected on this St. JPII quote and how women have a mission to serve others with our unique maternal gifts.  The perfect example was modeled for us by Mother Mary with her “Ultimate Yes” to serving the Lord as the Mother of Jesus. She received love Himself, Jesus Christ, in her womb and her heart. How necessary it is that we strive for this same receptivity.  I am always in need of the reminder that all women are gifted with this receptive maternity, or the “feminine genius” (read about it here).
Although I am not a physical mother, this summer has allowed me to delve deeper into spiritual motherhood through serving physical therapy patients in the hospital, children I care for at camp and the nursery, girls I lead in Bible study, and of course my wonderful grandmother. Surprisingly, it was only the latter that provided a major obstacle to my service. Of all these situations, why was serving my grandmother the most challenging? Well, essentially we were trying to “mother” each other.  I quickly learned that she was definitely more of a mother than I was – and better at it too (duh). All summer long she has found ways to serve me, and it truly amazes me. So began the battle for motherhood.
Battle of the Dishes // I do all of the cooking in the house with the exception of Grandma’s unrivaled baking. If you have ever lived with me, you know that I would cook every meal if I could. But as the semester got busier, it became increasingly difficult. Following each meal she would insist on cleaning up after me and doing my dishes. After breakfast one busy morning, I gave in. It’s her ability to recognize what I need before I realize I need it that truly amazes me. But isn’t that what Christ does for us every moment of every day?
Nurturing // Our maternal hearts prompted us to constantly look out for each other. I was concerned with her safety and providing her enough social time. She was concerned with my emotional and spiritual well being.  Each looked a little different. When I was watching out for her, I tried to do so undercover so as to preserve her feelings of independence. She would have trouble buckling her seat belt in the car, so I would situate it just right ahead of time and pull all the slack. Or I would wake up 30 minutes earlier because I knew she liked to eat a proper sit down breakfast while discussing our plans for the day (as opposed to my habit of taking a nut bar to go). For me, grandma would always know when I was burnt out from school, prompting me to go to bed, making sure I was eating, and praying an extra rosary for me on exam days. When I expressed any of my worries, she would reveal to me how she asked Jesus for things or would point me to the saint who would be the perfect companion in those struggles. She would lovingly let me know when I stepped out of line, judging another or letting my worries become vanity. She did what she could to get me closer to sainthood. She showed me what true love and true friendship is.
I call it a “battle” for motherhood, but most of the time it was a joyous adventure. Our intuition of what the other needed made our time together so wonderful and helped our love grow stronger. Exercising patience, extra planning and consideration, and intentional attentiveness were never easy but made life so rich as I gave more of myself using my feminine genius.
