Fun With Palindromes: A Welcome To Devitt's Minific
"Hey Ferg, you gotta sec?"
Fergal Devitt looked up from his phone to see Sami looking perplexed at whatever was happening on the screen of his Switch. Sami was even tilting his head at a quizzical angle, which was utterly adorable.
"What's up, Sambo?"
Sami waited for Fergal to walk up beside him before showing him the screen, "So I was just playing around with the Radar thingie when this happened. What do these sparkles mean?"
Tumblr media
Fergal's jaw dropped at the image before him, "Oh my God, Sami tell me you have Repels."
"Uh yeah..." Sami went into the menu to double-check, finding he did indeed have a couple of them, "Should I use one?"
"Yes! Immediately! If not sooner!"
Sami crinkled his nose at Fergal's sudden excited outburst, "Okay...so it's safe to walk into those? I'm not gonna get attacked by, like, Giratina or something?"
"Absolutely!" Fergal paused, "I mean that it's safe, not that yer gonna get jumped."
"The only jumpy thing here is you," Sami looked over at Fergal, who was visibly vibrating beside him, "Right, Repelled up and...here we go..."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fergal's eyes widened, "A Shiny Girafarig?!"
"Is that good?" Sami looked a little closer at the giraffe Pokémon, "Does it have a cold or something? Why's it's nose blue?"
"Just catch it!"
"Okay, okay...sheesh," Sami sighed as Fergal gripped tightly onto his shoulder, "Uh...I'll just toss a Quick Ball, I guess?"
Both men watched as the Quick Ball flew through the air, the Shiny Pokémon disappearing inside in a flash of light. Sami felt Fergal's grip tighten on his shoulder as the Ball shook once...
Twice...
Thrice...
Click.
"Whoo! Sami!" Fergal cheered as the confirmation of capture message flashed on screen, "Your first Shiny! And it's a Girafarig, of all things!"
Tumblr media
"Huh...it does look a bit different..." Sami mused, "Wait, is it just a Girafarig that's been dipped in blue paint?"
"I mean...basically yes..." Fergal grinned, "But it's still pretty cool, right? Save the game, by the way."
"It's cute, I guess?" Sami shrugged as he clicked to save the game as instructed, "I'm guessing this a bigger deal than I think it is?"
"You found a Shiny Patch of grass in one Radar use, Sami. You have no idea how lucky that is! And it's the giraffe based Pokémon too! The best animal!"
"Well I'm excited that you're excited, if nothing else," Sami smiled fondly at the look of pure joy on Fergal's face, "I think you should have this."
"Really?!" Fergal wrapped his arms around Sami's neck, "You mean it?"
"Ferg, this is apparently a special version of this Pokémon," Sami grinned as he felt Fergal nuzzle against him, "Who else needs this more than my favourite giraffe enthusiast?"
"I love you so much, Sami Zayn," Fergal unwrapped himself from Sami, before cupping his face in his hands and kissing him quickly, "I'm going to get my Switch then I'm coming back for more kisses!"
"Can't wait..." Sami laughed to himself as Fergal dashed inelegantly away, looking back down at the Shiny Girafarig on the screen, "A lucky find huh...? Nothing's luckier than finding you, Ferg."

Started playing Fe6 after finishing 7 after only playing Fates and FeH before
Ch1
I‘m sorry why is Roy still a baby. I thought FeH was just weird about its art for him like it with Rebecca but no that is a child. A baby boy
OLD MAN
OLD MAN WITH A BEARD
"Even Eliwood can’t beat an illness“ ah crap they’re both gonna die. Dammit old man you were supposed to survive for Hector ;-;
Is that the fucking Merchant guy of all people
Is that a baby Wil. Wil Jr. They even have the same hair style
OLD MAN WITH GREY HAIR
and the continues to be a power house, heck yea! …Oh crap what if this game doesn’t have a Hector-like too. I‘m gonna be screwed
There is something profoundly sad about the fact that even though this game came first, you can just tell Roy is less experienced than his dad was by how they wield their blades. Man ;-;
"I’m still alive, see?“ OLD MAN I SWEAR-
Ch2
Huh. The weird sign behind the chapter name looks different this time round. Wonder if that’s got significance
Merlinus: "Roy we can’t meddle with Bern stuff“ (your dad‘s weird ass tactician kept using me as canon fodder last time we fought them, I can’t do this again ;-;)
Ok ik FE‘s characters are more like roles in a theater than anything, esp. with these 2 being pre/sequel, but was EVERY character in 7 someone’s parent all along :O
Oh Hi Guinivere. How was the childhood with your bro. Mhm. Great. Yea. Really. COOL.
Or Narshen is ABSOLUTELY related to that crazy Wyvern Rider lady. If the look didn’t say it then the hair color speaks for itself.
Ch3
ALREADY!?
DONT DO THIS TO ME GAME
I JUST GOT TO SEE DADTOR YOU CANT TAKE HIM FROM ME SO EARLY
Damn he fought 2 of them huh. That‘s my max level promoted mvp for ya…
If Idunn looks like Fergal or his Morphs I will delete my save file
Baby Mathew…? And Baby Nino that kid is absolutely a Nino Jr. Welcome to the team! They look even younger than Roy why is half this army made up of literal children
NO NO SHUT UP HECTOR CMON MAN ;-;
Rip King o7 Ngl they are actually so evil. I‘m looking at this and it’s very clear he was just supposed to be fridged angst fuel for Lilina, and then they drop fe7 and give this man a personality and friends and bonds and his A Support with Eliwood is them promising to survive, that they won’t die, not here, not at the hands of Bern, all while knowing that he was always going to
Honestly A+ to Fe7 for taking what 6 gave them and working so well with it
Ch4
Oh hey I know this map!
Aaaand half the party is useless here again too rip
Edgelord guy: keeps killing everyone.
Me: make it so he’s forced to target Marcus and I can finally recruit him. It works
Marcus: fucking obliterates him
Like damn old man chill out a bit

A BODY IN A CORNISH VILLAGE BY DEE MACDONALD (A KATE PALMER MYSTERY #7)
Cornish cream teas in the sun, dog walks on the beach and… a murder investigation? Can Kate Palmer – part-time nurse and cake-loving sleuth – solve her most baffling case yet?
Kate Palmer is delighted when she learns that her home, the beautiful seaside village of Tinworthy, is the setting for a new TV show. She’s even more excited when she, her handsome husband Woody and her drama queen sister Angie are all invited to be extras. But when the cameras start rolling, the trio are in for a nasty surprise when the film’s writer and producer, Crispin Wyngarde, drops dead…
Before long, rumours start flying and Angie is in the spotlight for murder. Kate knows her sister had a brief, stormy fling with Crispin during her younger days as an actress, but surely Angie couldn’t have hated him that much, could she?
Kate is certain of her sister’s innocence, and is determined to prove it. But who would want to kill Crispin and set the stage for Angie to take the fall? Could it be Fergal, Angie’s jealous boyfriend? Sonja, the eccentric director, who had a love-hate relationship with Crispin? Or gorgeous Guy, the hairdresser who’s held a grudge against the problematic producer for years?
Armed with a list of possible culprits, Kate sets out to interview everyone she can. Over cups of tea, secrets start to spill out about overheard conversations and mysterious money transfers. But just as Kate thinks she’s finally on the right track, her main suspect is found dead after a party in the village. To make matters worse, he’s one of Angie’s old flames too…
Kate needs to solve the crime – and quick – to save her feisty sister. Can she untangle the clues and get to the truth, before it’s curtains down for Angie?

My Review:
I have been reading this series since the first instalment and Kate, Wally, Angie, Fergus, and don’t-forget-the-dog are book friends I am always glad to meet and catch up with them.
The level of the stories is always quite high and the mysteries are solid and keep me guessing.
This is one of the most heart-breaking and entertaining at the same time. This is a cosy series and there’s always a lot of funny moments but there’s also some sad moments as in real life.
There was plenty of twists and I couldn’t guess the culprit.
It’s quite fast paced, and I wasn’t able to put it down and read it in one sitting.
Highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

•A thought about them that they’d never share: This man. Little known fact but this man saved my life. I was at my lowest of lows. I was definitely an alcoholic and I had a problem with certain substances and this man pulled me out of all of that. Wrestling helped but I’m telling you…if I didn’t have Fergal in my life? I probably wouldn’t not be here today.
•First impression of them: Weird to say this now but my 15 year old brain thought he was hot! I did! Then I got to know him and now he’s my brother!
•Favorite thing about them: How giving he is. How patient and understanding he is.
•Least favorite thing about them: That he has better abs than me 😂
•Hopes for their future relationship: That I never lose him.

Fergal sat on the couch watching tapes of The Elite and his heart swelled with pride. He felt like a proud father whose kids had grown up. The group clearly had Bullet Club overtones to it but that was normal since almost all of them had been in the group at one point. He missed his Bullet Club days but he was happy with his life now. It was quieter and allowed him more freedom to himself. “It’s like watching Bullet Club version two in a lot of ways.’ The Irishman mused as the tapes ended.
Watching the tapes brought him back to thoughts of his days in NJPW and he next popped in a tape of the history of The Bullet Club. “Nothing like a blast from the past.” Fergal said as he saw his face come up on the screen. He had been a beloved babyface but then saw that the grass was greener as a dastardly heel and turned on his partner, Ryusuke Taguchi just before forming the Bullet Club along with Karl Anderson. The BC had various members over the years but none had impressed him more than The Young Bucks, who were soon added. America had called Fergal with promises of more money than imaginable so he left Bullet Club. In a show of respect and passing the torch, his last match for NJPW saw the Bucks turn on him and the emergence of AJ Styles who took his place as the leader. “AJ is a hell of a wrestler and I think some of his best matches were in NJPW.” Fergal mused watching Styles led the Club he made.
“This is where it started to get interesting.” Bullet Club stayed on a tear through NJPW and Kenny Omega joined the Club which was growing by leaps and bounds. Fergal  remembered keeping tabs on everyone and seeing which members stood out to him. Kenny was a different breed and Fergal knew he would be big one day. “Allen was a hell of a leader but I like how when Allen was leaving Kenny stepped up. It’s like you get one or two years as leader before the big companies come for you.” A smile crossed along Fergal’s face seeing the conflict on Kenny’s face as Styles faced Kota Ibushi. There was a long story there with Kota and Kenny but adding it to the ring made Kenny’s actions all the more intriguing. He watched Keny turn on AJ and the Young Bucks try to talk sense into Kenny before joining him in a triple Superkick to Styles. “It’s stuff like that that gives me goosebumps.” Kenny and the Bucks would form The Elite and and and do dual duty in Bullet Club. Now to make the Bullet Club’s story that much more interesting at this time was the addition of Adam Cole, Hangman Page and Cody Rhodes. “Blink and you’ll miss Cole because he didn’t stick around long. Cole tried to fire the Bucks and they told him that Kenny was the leader not him so he couldn’t fire them. It hit Kenny wrong and he fired Cole.” Fergal couldn’t help but laugh because Cole had such an ego but it cost him being in the club.
“This is where you have to watch very closely because all hell’s about to break loose and you can see how conniving and cerebral Cody can be. Remember I mentioned Kota Ibushi and Kenny and confliction. Business is about to pick up.” Fergal says as if talking to someone though the room was empty except for himself. Cody Rhodes is shown challenging Ibushi to a match and losing. Rhodes' plan didn’t go as he expected but that didn’t stop him. The next match Ibushi has, Cody attacks Ibushi and you see members of Bullet club holding him for Cody to hit him with a chair. “Omega ran in to make the save and insert his dominance telling the Club that he’s the leader and backed off. You can see that didn’t sit well with Cody. Cody wants to be the leader. So many egos and you know what ego’s do? They blow shit up.” It was clear Cody was enjoying this maybe more than he should be. “Omega loses to Jay White, then offers him a spot in the Club but Jay attacks Kenny. Omega vs White and White wins but watch this.” Hangman Paige comes in to challenge White and Kenny stops him. Bucks and Cody come down and they all argue in the ring as Jay leaves. Kenny ends up pushing Matt and the Bucks and Page leave. Cody and Kenny make up and Kenny goes to leave but Cody attacks Kenny. “It’s like kids in a pissing contest. Are they friends or they not? “ After several hard fight matches The Bucks, Kenny, Page, Ibushi all get on the same page and Kenny even makes amends with Cody in a show of respect. Happy ending? Not on your life. Members of Bullet Club that had been there since the beginning were feeling overshadowed and tired of the Bullet Club members who were also in The Elite. There wasn’t room for two top factions and the Bullet Club OG’s felt The Elite were no longer a part of the club and attacked them. “The rest is history as the Elite all left NJPW and came to America. Small world but you can see all the history there and all the ego’s but somehow they’re making it work.” Fergal laughed as he turned off the tape and hit the lights. It was time to go to bed.

Changeling Loyalties chapter 8
Goblins and Conspiracies
Toby is quite happy with his life, but then the Amulet of Daylight just had to choose his human friend. What’s a changeling to do? Good thing Toby never really liked Gunmar anyway.
AO3 - Fanfiction
~~~~
~~~~
The search for the missing amulet was proving to be incredibly frustrating. Blinky kept suggesting that they should try shrinking Jim down to have him search for it. Toby was very staunchly against it and, as Aaarrrgghh was also siding with him and against Blinky on that particular issue, Jim had decided to save that for a last resort.
“I’m just saying we should try lighting a fire in the entrance to see if the smoke comes out somewhere else,” Toby said.
“And if it does? What’s to say that the amulet is not lodged in some crevice somewhere? Just waiting for discovery?” Blinky returned.
“Oh! Maybe we could use a spycam!” Toby held his hands out parallel. “We could like strap it to a remote controlled car and send it in. It would be totally secret agent cool!”
“Preposterous, your human vehicles are far too large to fit into such a small hole. Why, even the smallest of them would not even fit into the fergalator.”
Toby patted Blinky’s arm and shook his head.
“No. No. We have small toy cars that drive around just like the regular ones.”
“Really?” Blinky blinked and cocked his head. “How fascinating! Can you acquire one of these tiny cars for our use?”
Jim glanced at Aaarrrgghh who let out a chuckle and leaned over to him.
“Blinky like learning human things,” He whispered very loudly. “Want car to play with.”
Jim grinned at that. Blinky shot the large troll an affronted look.
“I’m not planning to play with the car I merely wish to document how it works so that I might better understand human culture. That is all,” Blinky said crossing his arms with a huff.
Toby snickered.
“That’s okay, you can play with it too…”
“What is going on here?” Everyone jumped at Vendal’s gruff voice.
Jim turned to see the elderly troll bend slightly as he entered the shop. He used his staff to brush aside a hanging sock before moving to stand pointedly in front of Blinky.
“Why is the Trollhunter not in the Forge training? I believe I heard you talking about cars. What sort of foolishness are you up to now?”
Blinky winced lowering his head slightly as he tapped his fingertips together.
“Well… You see…”
“I lost the amulet,” Jim said coming to stand beside him.
“Master Jim…”
He couldn’t let Blinky take the blame for something that was his fault.
“A gnome stole it from me. We caught the gnome, but we haven’t managed to get the amulet back yet. We’re working on it.”
Vendal stared at him for a moment. Jim straightened up, feeling rather like he was in the principal’s office waiting to find out if he was going to have detention. The elderly troll let out a huff and turned back toward Blinky.
“You have all of today and tomorrow to find the amulet. After that the Trollhunter must return to his training.”
“But without the amulet…!” Blinky started.
Vendal pinned him with a stare.
“You will continue looking for it. I will make arrangements for a substitute trainer in the meantime.”
Vendal turned away from them to walk out of the shop.
“Find the Amulet soon. The longer it remains lost the more unrest will grow in TrollMarket.”
~~~~
“Well, hey! Maybe it will turn up tomorrow.” Toby said in a tone of deliberate cheerfulness as he and Jim made their way home.
“I doubt it,” Jim said with a sigh. “I can’t believe it, I find an important magic artifact and then I lose it… Ugh! Stupid!”
“It’s not your fault…”
“How?!” Jim snapped, turning toward him. “I was the one who couldn’t hold onto it against a gnome. A gnome! How am I supposed to protect people from Bular if I can’t protect an amulet from one lousy gnome?” His shoulders slumped and he gripped the straps of his pack. “Maybe I’m just not cut out for this.”
Toby opened his mouth and then closed it, unsure of what to say. He didn’t want Jim to be Trollhunter, and he was fairly certain Jim didn’t want to be either, but he hadn’t anticipated Jim taking the loss of the amulet this way. He knew about his friend’s anxiety, he had even learned some strategies to help him with it over the years, but…
But he hadn’t been prepared for Jim to blame himself this hard for it, for it to affect his sense of confidence this way.
Toby frowned.
Would it go away? Could he expect Jim to move past losing the amulet or would he just keep blaming himself for it? He just wanted his friend safe, was that too much to ask?
Why did things have to be complicated?
~~~~
For history class Mr. Strickler was taking them to the museum for a more hands on lesson and some general all around fun. Honestly, long-term goal to destroy humanity aside, he really was a good teacher.
“Excuse me.”
Toby turned around from the rock exhibit he had been looking at to find Claire approaching them. He hazarded a glance to the side toward Jim. Yep, he was turning bright red. Toby snorted and rolled his eyes.
“What’s up?” Toby asked, because someone had to respond to her.
Claire blinked at him.
“Oh sorry! I was talking to Jim,” She said with an apologetic smile. “But I didn’t mean to…”
“Don’t worry about it.” Toby waved her off. He grabbed Jim and shifted him forward. “I’ll leave you two alone.”
He shot a wink and a thumbs-up to Jim who had recovered and was now sputtering. Hopefully he would not fall into trying to impress her with mediocre Spanish like he had the past few times he had attempted to talk to her. Toby shook his head. There were a certain things about humans that were still super weird to him. Dating practices were definitely at the top of the list. Trolls just went for the throat… both figuratively and literally. He paused with a frown. Or was that just Gum-Gums?
He was drifting along searching for something else to occupy him when Eli’s high pitched voice drew his attention.
“At first, I thought it was an alien,” He was saying. “Definitely not human. It’s some sort of monster.”
The girl he was talking to leaned away and rolled her eyes.
“Come on. Give it up, Eli.”
Toby inched closer.
“No, no! This time I have photographic evidence,” He insisted waving his phone.
Uh oh, that doesn’t sound good.
Toby quickly nudged his way in between Eli and the two other teens.
“Hey, Eli, can I see your phone real quick?” He said swiping it from his hands. He looked at the screen and then did a double take. “Oh my gosh.”
A chill ran through his veins. That was definitely a goblin. A squashed goblin. They would be out for revenge. He needed to do damage control fast.
He twisted as if he was going to turn to show the picture to one of the other kids. He let his feet cross and went down with a yelp the phone clattering out of his hands.
“Are you all right?” Eli squeaked.
“Yeah,” Toby let out a self-depreciating chuckle as the other kids around him laughed. “Just clumsy I guess… oh here let me get that for you!”
Toby grabbed Eli’s phone off the ground, hitting the delete button as he did so. A picture of Eli posing with ninja stars replaced the goblin.
“Oh no, I deleted it!” Toby did his best to sound truly sorry as he pressed the phone back into Eli’s hands. “I’m so so sorry.”
“That’s okay… I guess,” Eli sounded really put out. Toby would have felt bad but he had probably just saved his life.
“Look,” He said thinking quickly. “If there’s any way I could make it up to you…”
“Not really,” Eli sighed.
“Hey… I know it’s a little late, but I really did want to hear about what you found.”
The skinny human immediately perked up.
In just a few minutes Toby had all the information on the goblin he needed, way too much personal information, and a few weird conspiracies.
“Well it’s been nice talking to you, but I need to go check on Jimbo,” Toby said, peeling himself away from the conversation. “Bye!”
“Bye,” Eli waved. “Let’s talk again?”
Toby wove through the other students, twisting his head this way and that, until he spotted Jim. He broke free of a small cluster that were ogling a mummy and jogged over to his friend.
“Jimbo! How did it go?”
Jim glanced at him and sighed.
“Okay…. But I think…” He sighed again, shoulders slumping. “I think she might actually have a crush on you.”
Toby choked on his spit and went into a coughing fit.
“Me?! Why would she have a crush on me?”
He had interacted with Claire only a handful of times and she had literally never shown any interest outside of getting whatever project they were working on and basic social niceties. She’d even gotten his name wrong a few times.
“Well she approached me to talk about you. She had a whole bunch of questions.”
Toby stilled. Questions weren’t good.
“What sort of questions?”
“Like what sort of stuff you do in your free time, what kind of things you like, and if you had any pets… what was the other one?” Jim broke off tapping the back of his hand. “Oh yeah… She wanted to know if you had a part time job or something?”
Toby frowned. This was weird…
“Look Jim. I don’t know why she’s asking those things, but I highly doubt she has a crush on me and if she does I have no interest of returning it,” He said firmly, making careful eye contact with Jim.
“You don’t have to…”
“Seriously. I’m not interested in her,” Toby repeated firmly.
Well aside from why she was asking questions about him…
“I believe you,” Jim said. “I guess I’m just disappointed…”
Toby held back a groan. Why him? He grabbed Jim’s arm.
“Come on let’s go look at the Viking exhibit.”
Who knows, maybe there’d be a picture of Alfhild or something.
~~~~
Toby wasn’t terribly excited to spend a night off hiding in the bushes across from Eli’s house, but life was like that sometimes. Unfortunately Kracka hadn’t dropped by so he was on his own. From what he could figure out it sounded like it was a delivery driver who had squashed the goblin: one who had just happened to leave a note about where and when he would return.
He checked his watch and yawned, another ten minutes. It was about time to start scouting to see if he could find the goblin swarm.
There was a loud whine from an approaching engine and Toby ducked back down behind his bush waiting for it to pass. It didn’t. Was the delivery driver early? Toby peered over the bushes.
It was Steve.
Toby watched in puzzlement as the blond teen parked his Vespa in the driveway and approached the front door. He knocked and stood there, shifting and glancing around every few seconds. After about a minute a woman, who Toby assumed must be Eli’s mother, opened the door and let him in.
That was… strange… Was there a group project Toby had forgotten about?
Before he could think about it much more there was the rumble of another vehicle approaching. He ducked down just as the delivery truck pulled to a halt before the house. The driver hopped out, singing tonelessly to whatever music was playing on his headphones, and retrieved a package from the back. Toby winced as he dropped it a few times before making it to the front door. How did that guy still have a job?
Movement from the corner of his eye brought his attention back to the issue at hands.
The goblins were emerging from the bushes. Several of them climbed up the light poles. It was hard to tell at this distance, but he thought that he saw Bob on one of the far poles. Other goblins were beginning to emerge from the bushes; it seemed that Toby’s guess was correct. The swarm flowed down the street toward their hapless victim.
The delivery driver handed off the package to Eli, who had answered the door, and then pushed past him into the house. Toby tensed. The driver was already a dead man, but if he stayed in Eli’s house too long the goblins might go after him as well.
Toby debated whether he should do something. Goblins were near impossible to reason with in this state, but if he got ahold of Kracka he might be able to get him to convince Fragwa to wait to go after the driver until…
The goblin swarm descended on the delivery truck. It shook back and forth violently as they began to devour it.
Right… He’d forgotten that goblins often didn’t differentiate between objects and people when they were going for revenge. Toby felt his muscles relax; it seemed there would be no need for death tonight. In a matter of seconds the truck was gone. He glanced up and down the street to make sure there were no onlookers.
The doorknob started to turn. Thinking quickly Toby raised his hands to his mouth and let out a “watch out” call. The goblins’ heads shot up at the sound and they scattered into the bushes only a moment before the door opened and the delivery driver came out.
Toby glanced around for an escape route. It was best that he got out of here before the delivery man called the police to look for his “stolen” truck. They would wonder what he was doing here so late at night. He should probably note down the event to give to Alfhild or Stricklander; the Janus Order liked to keep track of these sorts of things.
There was a crackle from a bush near him and he spotted a goblin he didn’t recognize emerging. It eyed him speculatively. Not wanting to become dinner, he quickly flashed his eyes at it. It tilted its head.
He heard a surprised chatter from his right and then another goblin moved in front of him. It snarled at the first goblin which laid its ears back and skittered away.
“Oh! Hi Foon,” He said, relieved.
“moi hara whm?” Foon asked.
“I was just making sure no one saw.”
Foon cocked its head. “Moi sell wewsh’oiw?” It wanted to confirm that him who did the watch out call.
Toby nodded.
Foon grinned and Toby relaxed. It looked like it was off of the frenzy of the revenge hunt now.
“Wa rayacga salalrewa. moi wouc?” Foon asked, bouncing on its toes.
Right. They usually celebrated if they managed a successful revenge hunt. Toby wasn’t quite sure if he wanted to join though. Goblin revelries got pretty wild and he was tired.
Foon tugged Toby’s pant leg before climbing up on his head. “Moi lism. Moi wa goc’w saa mish.”
It was right, Toby thought guiltily, with all the stuff going on with Jim and cleanup he hadn’t had much time to just hang out with the goblins.
“wac'toir,” Toby decided: he would go along with them. It would be nice to relax and let loose just a little. Anyway tomorrow was Saturday, so he could sleep in before he and Jim went to Trollmarket.
He took one last glance at Eli’s house where Eli and Steve where talking to the delivery man, before slipping away through the bushes.
Author Note:
I'm back!
In case anyone is wondering the goblins are speaking a cipher (well starting this chapter anyway). Any real words in another language that appear are purely coincidental.
Nice to get those background story lines progressing.
There will be no Jlaire (Jim x Claire) in this story. Just figured I'd clear that up.
Anyway as always let me know what you think!
See y'all next time!
Rope Break
Summary: When a ring rope breaks at the wrong time, Dustin sweeps in to save Fergal’s girl.
Pairing: Fergal Devitt X Reader
Warning: Broken bones.
A quick knock at the door alerted me that someone was there. “You're with me. Let's go.” Paul said. He sounded somewhere between angry and busy. Regardless of his mood, when Paul said Go... you go. I grabbed a tablet and followed him. As we walked, we were joined by William Regal and a couple of other people. Nobody was talking and I wondered if anyone knew what was happening.
We passed through the gorilla and straight onto the ramp. In front of me was the ring. The RAW ring. I'd been near and in the NXT ring plenty of times, but this was my first time seeing the RAW ring. The LED boards around the ring, the red on the ring-posts, Drew McIntyre and Braun Strowman practicing some moves in the ring..... I was now working on the main show. Without realizing, I'd slowed down and gasped as the thought overcame me.
A gentle touch on my back shook me out of it, and I saw Dustin standing next to me. “C'mon.” He smiled at me. I hadn't realized we'd picked up Fergal's friend as we walked.
“It's a bit daunting,” I whispered to him, and he gave me a giant smile.
“You're in the big-time now.” He nodded his head to the ring, and I followed. “You've got this” he whispered.
Paul stopped a few feet from the ring, and the whole group stopped.
“Ok. We've gotta cut some promos for this match. Dustin, what do you have for me?” Paul asked.
Dustin was quick to start reeling off ideas he'd come up with for the promos, showing Paul and William sketches on his tablet. I was there to make sure the promos accurately reflected where creative was going to take Braun and Drew. Each person in the group weighed in as each promo was discussed. Everyone was engaged in deciding a proper background for Drew's promo when I heard the wrestlers pick up the pace in the ring. I was turning to see what was happening when I heard........ I wasn't sure at the time what it was. My mind processed that a ring rope went flying through the air and was headed directly at me.
Time slowed down as I saw the metal end of the rope coming at my face. Suddenly, I was grabbed, turned and tackled to the floor. I processed that my head hadn't hit the floor, but that relief was suddenly overwhelmed by a searing pain in my leg and a scream of someone on top of me. My pain was so intense I almost threw up. I still wasn't sure what had happened when William Regal leaned down beside me. He pulled the person off of me. It was then I registered that Dustin had tackled me. The pain.... I couldn't think straight. I couldn't figure out what was happening. The pain was too much.
“Y/N, stay still. Stay completely still.” William barked.
At the same time, I heard Paul yell, “Get medical here with 2 gurneys and some morphine STAT.” Then I heard his walkie talkie beep. He must have used it to call medical. “Call 911!” he barked to someone in our group.
“Dustin, don't move.” someone said. There were shouts and yells everywhere.
“Get Finn, NOW!” Paul yelled.
I tried to raise my head to look around, “No. No. No.” A hand brushed my hair while a hand on my shoulder  prevented me from sitting up.
“What........” I started, but I saw Drew's face hovering over me.
“Stay down, Y/N” He was using his calmest, most soothing voice and it actually helped. “Medical is on da way. Everything is going to be ok.” His eyes caught mine. “I promise. Jus' lay still.”
Braun's voice soothed Dustin next to me, “You're alright. Stay still.”
Drew reached to hold my hand, “Just squeeze if you need to. Keep your eyes on me.”
“What? What's happening?” I squeaked.
A quick jab in my arm alerted me that medical was there and I was getting medicated. Sweet relief flowed through my body. I was so disoriented and confused, but the morphine made me calm. Whatever was happening could wait, I thought as I started to get sleepy.
“I'm 'ere. I'm 'ere” Finn's voice was the last thing I heard. His eyes replaced Drew's and they were the last thing I saw before I slipped into unconsciousness.
When I opened my eyes, I didn't know where I was. Someone was holding my hand, and I heard Finn praying. I tried to talk, but my throat and mouth were completely dry. A weak grunt came out instead.
Fergal jerked up to lean over me. “I'm 'here. You're ok. I'm 'ere.” He placed his hand on my cheek and brushed it gently. I opened my mouth to talk again, but nothing came out. “'old on, love.” He reached to get some water. “'ere.” He held my head up a bit so I could reach the straw, and I took a little sip of water. “T'ere ya go. Jus' a little bit, babe.” He soothed me.
“What....” I tried to say happened, but only a croak came out.
“Let me get t'e nurse.” He cooed and walked away for a few seconds to call a nurse. He came back and kissed my forehead as a few medical professionals came in the room doting over me. One checked my vitals. Another held a paper in front of me and said, “Point to where your pain is.” I realized the paper had 1-10 written on it and was for me to point to where my pain was. I pointed at the 4. “Good. Good.” they said. Dr. Robinson and Dr. Dugas walked in with a doctor from the hospital.
They were quickly updated on my vitals and pain. Dr. Dugas smiled over and tapped my uninjured leg. “You ok?” he asked. I nodded. “I know you're disoriented. Give us a couple of minutes, and we'll tell you what happened.” I must have looked relieved, because he smiled at me. “You're going to be fine.” He said as much to Fergal as to me.
I looked to Fergal who looked completely downtrodden. He continued to brush my cheek softly. “Tá tú ceart go leor.” he purred to me. I didn't know what he meant, but I always loved when he spoke Irish to me. “You're ok. I'm here.” He kissed my forehead again. “I'm here.” (Tá tú ceart go leor = You're ok)
It only took a couple minutes for the hospital staff to leave the room. Dr. Robison, Dr. Dugas and Fergal were all that was left. I tried to talk again, but only managed to croak again. Dr. Robinson motioned for Fergal to hand him the water. “Gently now. Little sips,” he said as he moved the straw to my mouth.
“Wha...” I tested my voice. “What happened?” I finally asked.
Dr. Dugas was the first to answer, “You've got a broken leg, Y/N” he said calmly. I immediately tried to move my legs, but found one immobile.
Fergal spoke up, “You were ringside wit' your group, and one of t'e ring ropes broke. It went flyin' right at ya, but Dustin saved ya.” He held my hand up to his mouth and kissed my knuckles.
I opened my mouth to speak, but was flooded with the memories of this afternoon. “Dustin?” I asked.
“I'm here.” I heard from the bed next to me. I breathed a sigh of relief.
“He's a fookin' hero.” Ferg said turning to grab Dustin's hand.
Dustin shyly answered, “I just did what came naturally.”
“You saved my love,” Fergal assured him. “I don't know what I woulda done....” his voice trailed off.
Dr. Robinson put a hand on Fergal's shoulder. “But it's fine now. They're both going to make a full recovery.” he said.
“Both?” I turned to look at Dustin, finding his arm immobilized in a sling.
“Just a few stitches.” He answered.
“A lot more t'an t'at.” Ferg said. “He saw t'e rope headed to ya, and he tackled ya to t'e ground. It took a huge chunk outta his shoulder blade.” My eyes widened.
“Thank you,” I grunted out as a stab of pain seared through my leg.
“There's a couple of people who want to see you if you're up for it.” Dr. Robinson said. I nodded yes, and he waved Braun and Drew into the room.
“There she is,” Braun said. “You ok?” he asked me.
“I don't know.” I squeaked as my pain spiked again. I squeezed Ferg's hand through the pain.
Dr. Robinson answered, “Yes, she'll make a full recovery. So will Dustin.”
“I feel.....” Drew started saying. “I'm so sorry.” He looked from Dustin to mé. “I was runnin dá ropes when it snapped.”
Fergal stood up and placed his hand on Drew's shoulder. “It wasn't your fault, mate. It just happened.”
Dr. Dugas interjected, “There was a faulty part. Paul is livid.”
“Me too!” Ferg said a bit too loud. I reached to grab his hand again.
“I'm ok.” I said to calm him. I could see anger in his eyes so I ran my fingers over his knuckles. “We're ok.”
“Yup.” Dustin said from his bed.
Drew came over to my bedside, “Don' worry, Finn. Paul's taking care of it. D'ere's a whole crew workin' on findin' out who's responsible.” He placed a hand on my arm. “I'm jus' so sorry.” He said to me.
“It's not your fault,” I soothed to Drew and saw a bit of relief on his face. “Or yours.” I said as I looked at Braun. “Regardless of who is to blame, it's done, and we will recover.”
Dr. Robinson chimed in. “Ok, that's enough. These 2 need their rest.” He turned to me, “You'll be released from the hospital today, but you aren't cleared to work yet. We're going to have to see how your pain is before we clear you.”
I nodded in agreement. “Can I go to the show tonight?” I asked. He looked unhappy so I added, “Maybe in the WWE suite?” I tried to smile charmingly.
“When you leave here, call me. We'll decide then.” He said making sure not to make any promises.
As they walked out, Fergal grunted unhappily. “Yer gonna be t'e death of me, woman. Why do ya wanna go to t'e arena?” He shook his head, but kissed my knuckles again.
“I want to see your match.” I responded.
I saw anger flare in his eyes, “You can watch from dá hotel.” He said emphatically as if I wasn't going to argue with him.
I looked past Fergal to Dustin when I realized he was silently chuckling behind me. He knew I wouldn't give in.
“I'm not going to be working... just watching.” I tried to appease Fergal. Dustin just shook his head.
“You'll be watchin' from t'e hotel WIT' ME!” Fergal half yelled.
“Oh NO NO NO NO NO!” I barked back. “You are NOT skipping a show because of my broken leg.”
Fergal stood up and started pacing with anger. “Don' ya understand love? Ya almost died. You've had surgery for a compound fracture. You need to rest.”
I started to argue when his words registered in my head. “A compound fracture?”
“Aye!” His accent was getting stronger the angrier he got. “This afternoon ya had a bone stickin' outta yur leg, and now you wanna go back to work tonight? Dis is where I'm puttin' my foot down. Yur going back to dá hotel to rest.”
Dustin interrupted in an apologetic tone, “Ferg, I need to rest too. I'll stay with her at the hotel while you wrestle.”
There was no way to pull Ferg out of his anger, but he did seem to consider Dustin's suggestion for a minute. “Aye. I can live wit' t'at.” he said finally. He paced for a few minutes glaring up at me and then at Dustin a few times. “But I'm comin' back as soon as mah match is done.” He barked again. When neither Dustin or I argued, he seemed to calm down a bit.
He wasn't mad at us. He was mad at the situation, and I knew if I continued to argue with him, I'd end up on the wrong side of his Irish temper. With the pain starting to grow stronger, I let it all drop. Fergal stayed with us for a while, occasionally taking calls from people at the arena. He assured them all that we were going to be ok. It was 4 pm before he finally went to the arena with kisses and promises that I'd call him if we needed them.
He stopped by Dustin's bed again and hugged the man softly, “I'll neva be able tá repay ya.”
Dustin just smiled and said, “Nothing to repay. You woulda done the same for me.” Still, I knew Fergal was going to do everything in his power to show his gratitude.
After Fergal was gone and Dustin called his wife, I let sleep take over me. The pain was getting progressively worse, and my only escape was sleep or more drugs. I opted for sleep.
What felt like a minute later, I heard someone calling my name; waking me from my dreams. “Y/N? Before your released, we need to make sure you can hold down food.” A rather stinky tray of hospital food was in front of me.
“Haven't I been through enough today?” I joked at the nurse, but he was NOT amused. Dustin's chuckled appeased me though.
I forced a few spoons of soup in my mouth and found it tasted much like it smelled. I figured the pre-packaged saltine crackers would be safe, and I quickly chowed down on them and the jello that was on the tray.... all under the scrutiny of the nurse. He didn't leave until he was sure I'd swallowed everything I ate.
Soon after, one of the WWE interns showed up to tell us he was our ride back to the hotel. After waiting to see if my food would stay down, the doctors finally started the process of releasing us. Started.... but it took forever. We made it back to the hotel shortly before RAW.
I was shocked at the sight of our hotel room. There were flowers everywhere, and a package of Reeses Peanut Butter Cups sitting on the coffee table for me with a sweet note from Fergal saying he'd be back as soon as he could. Next to the Reeses was a bag of Skittles with a note for Dustin.
“What's it say?” I asked after the intern helped me climb on the bed.
Dustin just chuckled. “It says don't worry about the sugar tonight. You earned these.” He finished reading and added, “these are my favorite.”
Once I was settled on the bed, and Dustin was lounging on the couch, the intern, Darryl, started doting over us. Did we need meds? Did we need food? Can he get us anything? I was about to tell him to go back to the arena until I realized he was probably under orders from Paul to stay with us.
“Food sounds good” I said to both Dustin and Darryl. They agreed. “Should we do room service or order delivery?” I continued.
Darryl spoke up, “I can get you anything you want.” He offered. “I have to go get your prescriptions anyway.”
“I think room service will be good enough,” I nodded at him. I didn't want him doing any more than he needed to. This certainly wasn't the norm for his job, but he was gracious enough not to complain.
Once he returned from the pharmacy though, I was in dire need of more pain meds. Dr. Dugas and Fergal were right to keep me from the arena tonight. The pain was too much. Darryl brought the pain meds to me along with the food that had just arrived.
The three of us sat eating and watching RAW while the meds made my head fuzzy. I must have fallen asleep again, because the next thing I knew, the tray of food was moved off the bed and I found Fergal sitting in the bed beside me.
“Luv,” He leaned over and kissed me. “How are ya feelin'?” he asked.
“Ugh!” was my only response. “You were right to keep me here.” I admitted.
“Ya had a big surgery today. T'ere's no shame in resting one night.” He said. “I t'ought you were gonna fight me harder t'an ya did.” He admitted. I could tell he was still angry, but he had calmed down a lot.
“Alright, now that you're here, I'm going to go back to my hotel room.” Dustin said.
“You don' have to go.” Fergal replied, but Dustin said he was tired and wanted to go to sleep.
Ferg stood and gave Dustin a hug, “Dude, if ya need anyt'ing....”
Dustin waved off the offer. “I'm good.” He came to give me a hug.
I held both his hands as he got ready to leave and looked him straight in the eye. “Thank you.”
I was rewarded with a big smile. “I'll see you tomorrow.” Dustin said.
My WWE SuperShowdown 2018 Review
The Card:
Universal Title Match - Seth Rollins vs Baron Corbin
I honest don’t care about either one. Seth is overrated and Baron is cool character, but a boring guy irl. I was waiting for Brock to come the whole time that they FLUFFED the cash in?! No thank you. Next!
4/10
Intercontinental Title Match - Finn Balor vs Andrade
Again, I DON’T CARE ABOUT THESE TWO!!! The demon is cool, but Finn Balor (Fergal Devitt) isn’t! Also he was very disrespectful to the gracious country of Agraba before this wondrous event. This was a boring match with two overrated wrestlers. What have they even done to deserve to be here? Andrade needs to learn English and stop doing the stupid KNEES thing. So stupid. I don’t even know what Andrade’s skillset is because he shows no talent. This match is something the we could have seen on SmackDown Live any other night. No, I say! No!
3/10
Roman Reigns vs Shane McMahon (& Drew McIntyre)
I couldn’t wait for Roman’s ass to be handed to him. I didn’t like the energy they let Reigns have, but in the end Drew did what we all were wanting; he kicked Roman with the Claymore while the referee was distracted. Well done.
8/10
Lars Sullivan vs Lucha House Party
Lars should have squashed these clowns. The match itself was confusing. I don’t understand what happened, but at least Lars stayed looking strong and got the victory. Go, Lars, go!
8/10
Randy Orton vs Triple H
This was a battle between two living legends in their near primes. Neither seemed to have lost a step. The Viper vs the Cerebral Assassin was my personal favorite match tonight. Nothing could top this match for me. No words needed. More of this, please!
10/10
Bobby Lashley vs Braun Strowman
This was a sensational match. An animal in Bobby Lashley with a great physique and the future face of WWE in Braun Strowman. Great job by both guys. Another gem from this event.
9/10
WWE Title Match - Kofi vs Dolph Ziggler
When life hands Dolph Ziggler lemons, he makes lemonade. He also looked great. Dolph has carried this feud. He did great work tonight throughout the match. Kofi did very little in the wrestling department, as usual. Xavier Woods was Kofi’s crony and they cheated to have Dolph lose. Stupid and unoriginal, but predictable. Dolph continues saving this feud as he put on an expertly executed promo to get a rematch. Ziggler is such a great HEEL. Hopefully they will do his great work justice and Dolph wins the title from this clown Kofi and his posse.
8/10
Battle Royal
This was an even bigger battle royale, if you can believe that. It was very cool that a local guy won. The crowd was electric the entire event, but when he won the surge turned into a sonic boom. Very cool. I cannot wait to see him every week from now on.
7/10
Main Event - Goldberg vs The Undertaker
The legend Undertaker fought this old guy from WCW. The old guy couldn’t even pick up ‘Taker. So the Undertaker carried this match and put the bleeding old man down. Great to see the legend Undertaker in the ring again. I hope he shows up at SummerSlam and WreslteMania. I can’t get enough of watching his matches. Triple H vs Undertaker again anyone? Just more Undertaker matches!
9/10
Final thoughts:
As per usual with WWE, the production was immaculate, the matches were well thought out, and the crowd was electric. For an event that had 0 women wrestling (I think Saudi has a law that prevents women from physically or figuratively touching other women under any circumstances), this was near perfect. I hope that piss-ant company took notes because this is how you do an event. WWE Super Showdown 2019 felt like those epic WrestleManias and had moments no wrestling fan will ever forget. I loved the whole experience! I can’t wait for another two!
9/10 overall
I Deserve More (Prince Devitt)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You and Fergal have a complex relationship that’s been going south and when he takes a contract with WWE without telling you? You’ve had it.
It'd been a while since the two of you shared personal moments. Small disagreements had turned into a blow out and maybe that was the reason he never told you. You were just his on-screen manager. You definitely hadn't spoke after you heard the announcement. You remembered the day clear as could be. Karl had walked into the arena, his voice carrying as the two spoke. “You're going to WWE Ferg, that's huge,” he'd cheered happily for his close friend. You sat up from your stretching on the mat.
 “Will ye keep yur voice down?” His heavy Irish accent spat back at machine gun.
 “What did Y/N say when you told her?” Karl asked and your eyebrow perked up.
 “Yes Ferg, what did I say?” You piped up, fists Clenched as the two looked up from their conversation to see you leaned against the ropes. After a few too many moment of silence, you dropped down and rolled out of the ring to walk past them.
 “Love, don't walk away from me,” Finn mumbled as you past but you shrugged off his touch and turned to glance up at him.
 “I'm so scared,” you scoffed at him and rolled your eyes. “Don't worry Ferg, I'm only your manager after all, yeah?” You walked off, leaving the two in silence once again. When you got to your hotel room that night, your phone had a few missed calls from the Club but you didn't want to hear it.  You swallowed your feelings down. This was for the best. Harden your shell Y/N, you told yourself.
 Forget the nights you spent wrapped up in him, hips straddling hips. Forget the skin to skin contact and the whispers of driving into the sunset. You were just his manager. He made that very clear the night that you asked him to head home with you after a night of drinking with the boys. “I thought we would-,”
 He'd chuckled. “Oh darlin, there's no we…yur ma manager.” And manager you'd become. A hard shell of yourself. You were quiet. You were reserved. You didn't participate in the fun, only showing up when sponsors requested your presence.
 The night of his final match, you sat silently on his dressing room couch, absentmindedly flipping through a magazine as he got painted on the opposite side of the room. Machine Gun and Doc could taste the tension in the room and after a final look between the two of you, Karl decided. “Everyone out,” he demanded and as you stood to leave with the rest of the room, he stopped you. “Not you, stay. Talk this out, don't leave it like this.” He closed the door behind him.
 You turned the look at him, covered in red and black paint. His face was screwed into a scowl. “This your idea?” You asked him, crossing your arms against your chest. Your club shirt cut up, the bottom rose slightly. His eyes took note of it.
“You're upset that I'm leaving,” your laugh was humorless. Dark even.
 “If that's what you think-,”
 “It's okay to cry,” he continued and stepped toward you.
 “Alright, stop right there. You know what grinds my gears? You ditch me a month ago after years of fucking me into the sheets of whatever bed we’re in. You told me you loved me, that you couldn't survive without me by your side. That if I betrayed you, you'd be devastated. Was that a joke?” He shook his head and look down. He opened his mouth but you stopped him. “I'm not a princess who needs to be saved Fergal, I'm a great goddamn woman who deserves respect. You want to go to the United States? Be my guest but don't stand there and try to project your sorry and pathetic feelings on me to make yourself feel better.”
 “Can I talk now?” He asked and you shook your head.
 “I don't think I want to hear any of what you have to say,”.
 That night as his match ended, you played your part. You hugged him tightly as he said his goodbyes in the middle of the ring and when he stepped back from you, you grinned wickedly as you superkicked him straight in the face.
Let me know if you’d like to be added to taglist :)
11. New Rivalry?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Summerslam
Jesy and Fergal are still in Brooklyn, New York. Along with his family and her girls. Jesy was doing an USAPro photoshoot for the new collection and LM5 while Fergal was at the gym. Jesy still had bruises from Summerslam.
"Jesy, how're your bruises on your body from Cathy?"  Perrie asked. "They still hurt but people are blaming Fergal for them and not Cathy," she said.
"Just ignore them. Before Cathy gave you bruises, Harry gave you the worst ones ever," Perrie said.
"Let's stop talking about Summerslam and just talk about all four of us and my future with Fergal. I am marrying him and I can't wait to marry him," she said.
"I know he can't wait either. So how was meeting his uncle and older brother, Colin?" Perrie asked.
"His family's amazing and sweet. His mum loves me and accepts me. His dad really likes me. I told Fintan this; 'You and Leonie raised an amazing son who has a sweetest, caring and lovable human being," she said.
"That's good that his family accepts you and Janice accepts him," Perrie said. "I'm glad. Plus I wish my dad could meet Fergal but I know that won't happen," she said. "I know. Have you found your wedding dress?" Leigh-Anne asked.
"Not yet. But soon I will," Jesy said. "Okay," Perrie said. "When you do find the dress, you better send pictures of the dress," Jade said.
"I will. Also whenever I get torn between bridesmaids dresses, I'll send pictures as well," she said. "Sounds good," Leigh-Anne said.
Three Weeks Later
Jesy and Fergal have been busy. They have been dealing with Raw, music career, wrestling, traveling and some wedding planning. "I heard Bayley's your new Mixed Match Challenge partner," Jesy said.
"Are you okay with that?" Fergal asked. "A little but I heard Bayley ramble about your NXT days. Where she wants to do your 'Dirty Dancing' routine," she said.
 "Did it bother you?" he asked. "Yeah, it did. Just so she knows I'll be at ringside with you two when Mixed Match Challenge happens," she said.
"That's understandable. But Bayley could never replace you. No one can. Not even Mercy, Lexi, Renee, Charly, and even Nikki Bella can replace you. Just don't worry about it. I prefer to do your little dancing on stage at Little Mix concerts," he said, kissing her head.
Jesy smiled. "Has Harry been bugging you lately?" Jesy asked Fergal. "Nope but he challenged to fight me at Hell in a Cell but we won't be there though," he said. Jesy rolled her eyes.
"Yeah Corbin again. I hope Kurt comes back soon. I hate Corbin not doing his 'acting' General Manage role like he's supposed to. He forced me to watch you get hurt," she said.
"And him putting you in a match against all three members of the Roitt Squad," he said. "Bayley and Sasha saved me afterward," she said.
"Thank goodness. Has Cathy tried threatening you since your match at Summerslam?" he asked.
"No, she hasn't. Someone gave her my phone number and she tried calling me. I blocked the number," she said. "That's good," he said. I nodded. He kissed her cheek softly. "Jesy?" he asked.
"Yeah?" she asked. "Is there anything you want to do?" he asked her. She shrugged. "I don't know. Whatever you want to do," she said. "Hmmm," he thinks of something, "How about a warm bath?" he asked.
Jesy shook her head. "No. Harry always made me take them after he hurt me," she said. "I'm sorry, baby, I forgot. How about the beach?" he asked.
"Beach sounds fun," she said smiling. "Okay," he said.
They both got ready for the beach. Jesy got her white bikini with short shorts and Fergal got his board shorts, both wearing SmileItsAPeak shirts.
Jesy got some sunscreen. "Ready?" he asked. "Yes, if you are," she said.
They left their apartment. He opens the car door for her. "Thank you," she said as she got in. He got in the driver's seat.
He started driving to the beach. "Shit, we forgot beach towels," she said. "One sec. We get new ones," he said.
A few minutes later, they got to the beach. They walked the beach and found a nice shady spot.
Jesy took her shirt and shorts off to show her bikini. "Looking sexy babe," he said to her. "Thanks," she said, looking down.
Fergal looked at Jesy noticing her voice was trembling. "Babe, tell me what's wrong," he said. Jesy started tearing up.
"Hey, hey now. Don't cry," he said, wiping her tears then holding her.
"Tell me what's wrong. Is it because that its Bayley teaming with me and not you?" he asked. "It's not just that," she sniffles.
"Just tell me," he said. "Can we go home, please? I don't want to talk about it," she said. "Yeah, let's go home," he said. They got up then headed back to their car.
Later That Day
Jesy was taking a nap with Reggie and Oscar. Fergal was working on Smile its Peak clothing line. He decides to call Jesy's mum Janice on Skype.
Janice answers. "Hey Fergal," she said. "Hey Janice, there's something wrong with Jesy," he said.
"Is she okay?" she asked. "She okay. She's a bit sad. She won't tell me why," he said. "Did she hear about you and Bayley teaming up for Mixed Match Challenge?" she asked.
"Yeah she did and she's not happy about that. Bayley mentioned me and her doing a dirty dancing routine as an entrance. It really upset her," he said.
"It was from your NXT days and before you two ever met. Did you tell her that?" she asked. "I did. She said she'll be at ringside for Mixed Match Challenge to prevent it from happening," he said.
"Well, she and Bayley need to have a talk about it. So when you guys get to Raw on Monday, you let them talk," she said. He nodded. "Okay. Thank you, Janice," he said. "Its no problem. Tell Jesy, I said hello and I miss her," she said.
"I will. She misses you too. Have a good night," he said. "I will, you two as well," she said. The video called ended. He headed up to their bedroom. He laid down next to Jesy. He kissed her cheek.
She turned over facing him. "Hey," she whispered. "Hey. you okay?" he asked. "A little but there's something I need to tell you," she said. "Tell me," he said. "I might be pregnant," she said into his ear.
"Are you sure? Did you take a test?" he asked. "No. I'm going to visit a doctor tomorrow," she said. "Okay. I'll go with you," he said. "Will you?" she asked. "Of course, I want to be sure," he said.
She nodded. "Okay. How was talking to my mum?" she asked. "We talked about you being upset about Mixed Match Challenge. She suggested you and Bayley talk one on one when we go to Raw," he said.
She nodded. "My mum's always right. I'll talk to Bayley about it," she said. "Okay, babe. If you are feeling sad about anything, just tell me. Promise?" he said. "I promise," she said. He kissed her cheek.
"Let's get some sleep. You had a bad day," he said. She kissed him deeply.
Next Morning
Jesy and Fergal headed to the doctor's office. They did blood work on her to see if she was pregnant. They waited. "How are you holding up?" he asked. "Pretty scared. I never thought about getting pregnant because of my career," she said.
"I never thought we could have a baby. We are so busy with our careers and all. We will see the results," he said. She nodded. The doctor came back. "Jesy, your blood test came back. You're not pregnant," the doctor said.
They both sighed in relief. "Was it a false alarm?" Fergal asked. "It was a pregnancy scare. It happens sometimes. Plus you were two days late on your period. So we will put you on the birth control," the doctor said.
"Mind if I think about it first?" Jesy asked. "We will give you one week to think about it. If you decide to take the birth control, let us know. You're free to go," the doctor said. Jesy nodded. They left the doctors office.
"We are both relieved," Jesy said. "I know. It was unexpected. We haven't been trying to have a baby," he said.
"I know. Plus we are too busy with our careers to have a baby," she said. "I know babe. Someday we will have a baby," he said.
"You'll be like in your forties or fifties by that time," she said. "I know but we can try in a few years. If you wanted to," he said.
"I love being an aunt to my nephew, Georgie. Plus being a mom to two fur babies" she said.
"That's all we need for now," he said, smiling.
Raw After Hell in a Cell
They are now at Monday Night Raw in Dallas. Jesy was quiet the whole time. "Ready to talk to Bayley babe?" he asked.
Jesy nodded. "Here goes nothing," she said. Jesy tries to find Bayley then get hugged from behind from Bayley.
"Hi, Jesy," Bayley said. "Hey, Bayley. I was looking for you. Mind if I talk to you?" Jesy asked. "Sure," Bayley said. They headed outside. "So what's up?" Bayley asked.
"So I saw that you and Fergal are teaming up for Mixed Match Challenge. Later on, I overheard you talking about you and him doing the 'dirty dancing routine' from your NXT days. Its really upset me," Jesy said.
"Oh really? I think you're jealous of me," she asked. "How am I jealous of you? You said that dirty dancing routine like I wasn't there. That 'routine' you two did in your NXT days is in the past. I'm the only one that will be doing any dancing with Fergal. Not even in the storyline," Jesy said.
"Come on Jesy. You're jealous that I am teaming with him and your not. I'll be a better tag team partner with him than Sasha was," she said. "Just like you cost you and Elias match in season 1 in first round?" Jesy said.
Acting General Manager, Baron Corbin walks over. "Is there a problem here?" he asked. "No we are just talking," Bayley said. "About Mixed Match Challenge. Mind your damn business!" Jesy said.
"How about this. Next week, it will be Bayley vs Jesy Nelson. Whoever wins, gets to team with Finn Balor in the Mixed Match Challenge. It'll be a No Disqualification match as well," Baron said.
Jesy nodded. "We will see who is worthy of being Finn Balor's tag team partner," Bayley said. "We will," Jesy said.
Jesy and Bayley walked away from each other.  "Next week, he'll be mine partner," Jesy said.
Jesy heads back to Fergal. "How did it go?" Fergal asked. Jesy tell Fergal what happen. "So Baron Corbin made a match. Next week, it'll be me and Bayley in a No Disqualification. Whoever wins, teams with you in the Mixed Match Challenge," Jesy said.
"Sometimes I don't agree with him. I think its fair," he said, "well fair to Bayley." "Welp, tomorrow will be some serious training," Jesy said.
"Yeah. Also, Paul(Triple H) gave us the rest of the night off," he said.
"Okay," she said. "Well let's go," he said, smiling. They left the ATT Arena then headed back to their hotel.
As they got to their hotel room, Fergal lifts Jesy up, carrying her into the room as they kiss then, shutting the door.
I Found You #25 (Finn Balor Story)
Finn was discharged that afternoon, with no orders to rest. He was determined to get back into the ring. He lost Royal Rumble and now he is given a chance to go to Elimination Chamber to get his Wrestlemania moment. The car ride home, however, was awkwardly quiet. It’s as if he knew that this was Balor’s doing for the position he is in.
He held his head down as he said, “Balor punished me for yelling at you last night, that’s why I lost the Rumble.”
“I think Balor needs to stay out of our relationship.” I said, simply, holding back my anger.
“He is part of us you know.” Finn said.
“No, he is part of you, not us.” I said, turning to Finn.
Finn stayed silent for a while before saying, “I want to win tonight on my own.”
“That would be a change in pace.” I said.
Finn turned to me and said, “Do you love him?”
“What?” I hissed.
“Do you love him or me?” I pressed my foot on the break and turned to Finn.
“Who do you think?” I said, putting my hands to my hips.
Finn put his head down, licking his lips, “He tortures me, by saying you crave him more than me.”
“And you believe that?”
“I live with him day in and out...I can’t escape it.” Finn said. I put my head back thinking about it, Finn does live with this all day and night.
It also means Balor is always around watching our every move. Watching me with my every move. It’s disturbing, but it could explain he fell in love with me, however, I have no desire for Balor.
I turned to Finn, “If Balor can hear me…” Finn looked up at me, with his tender blue eyes to only tell me he was there not Balor.
“When you see him, make it quiet clear…” I leaned over to Finn, “I love you, I love Fergal Devitt, I love you down to the bone of your being. No matter what Balor does, he won’t tear me from you.” I placed a gentle kiss on Finn’s nose as he smiled softly. I leaned back into the seat and kept driving.
RAW was awkward today. I guess they saw Cena and his ‘temporary dramatic’ transformation and now they started to question Finn since they’ve seen that only on Finn. I stood with Mickie and Elias and spent a few minutes talking to them: reinsuring that was only an act that Cena and Finn were pulling. By now, I knew enough to know how to be Finn’s manager and thus why people were coming up to me asking the obvious questions.
I turned to my left to find Lucy with her phone held directly towards me as she snapped a picture. She was too concentrated to notice my fist going into nose as she fell to the floor holding her face.
“That’s one thing I’ve learned around here” I said, snatching her phone away from her. I started to flip through it to find dozens and dozens of photos of Finn and I, either standing together or embracing each other. I turned with pureed hatred to her. Once she was up, I pushed her down to the floor,
“Why would you do this to us!” I said, “Everything is always about you!” I began to shout.
“You’re a fucking bitch!” Lucy cried back, putting her fist to my mouth, I took Lucy then and slammed her to the floor. I’ve watched long enough to know how to do it.
Kevin and Finn came in and separated us, before they could, I got a grip of her hair and pulled it tight as Kevin pulled her back. Lucy screamed in pain as I could imagine. I finally lost my grip and her hair was free.
“Watch!” She growled with such anger, I could’ve sworn it was Balor possessing her. I took a look into her eyes to find nothing, but blackness. It was Balor. Finn held me tightly.
“If Kevin can’t have his  Wrestlmaina moment, then he won’t either!” She nodded to Finn, realizing what she was really saying. If Balor can’t have me, neither can Finn.
“You tell ‘er to stay away from (Y/N)!” Finn shouted to Kevin.
“She better stay away from Lucy!” Kevin said back. Realizing I still had Lucy’s phone, I turned to Finn to give him proof that I did not post pictures of us. Finn glared at Kevin, containing his anger. Finn is not the angry type, he is very passive and shy, but this was his Irish blood boiling in him
“You cost me last night more than anything!” Finn said, Lucy glared with a smile. She suddenly fell to the floor; going unconscious. Kevin fell to his knees trying to wake her up. Lucy’s eyes popped open, she was in shock, but not surprised. While Kevin was distracted Finn and I went back to the dressing room.
We sat together, silently, with our heads down. At least he thought we were, I began to cry to myself. Finn looked up to see my distraught. He came over to me, leaned me back against the couch, wrapping his arms around me to allow me to cry. I began to sob in his chest.
“Hey.” Finn’s soft voice came. I looked up at him,
“Let’s say we head home?” He said, “home?”
“Yeah, back to Florida. We’ve been on the road for too long.” He said, I smiled at him, it was the greatest thing I’ve ever heard.
Finn order the plane tickets back to Florida, we just had to finish up tonight and we’ll be home tomorrow morning in our own bed- our sheets and pillows, our ‘home smell’ and our comfy couch. My confidence boost right back up once I knew there was a light at the end of this tunnel. I still held my breathe knowing that Balor had made victims out of Cena and Lucy. He is a dirty player.
“Ms.” Came a gruff voice. I turned to find Vince McMahon walking down the hall.
“Oh hello sir!” I said, holding out my hand, he gladly shaked it.
“So, you’re going to be Finn Balor’s new manager?” He asked.
“Yes, sir once I get my business degree, your Universal Champion will once again be Champion!” I said. He smiled.
“Good girl, I like your spirit, I see you and Finn are dating…”
“Going on two years…” I said smiling brightly.
“Nice.” He smiled, “I would like you to make your debut tonight…” he said.
My heart dropped to my stomach then to my throat. My eyes felt as if they bulged out, but they didn’t.
“Unless you want to wait…” He said, “Finn could really use a push…” He said.
I nodded, “When would you like me to go on?”
I stood nervously at the foot of the entrance of the stage, I should be so use to going out there I’ve done it twice. Now that I’m going back there as a professional manager instead of a concerned girlfriend. I took one step out as the crowd began to cheer for me. It felt werid. Do they even know who I’m? I bet if a tomato came out and sat here they would cheer for them. I smiled to myself going down the ramp. I looked up at the ring as Finn and Seth Rollins stood in the ring together, puzzled. I took one step on the stairs and climb slowly into the ring.
“What are you doing out here?” Finn whispered to me, I told him Vince wanted me to make my debut tonight. Finn still looked puzzled. I took the infamous microphone from Finn’s hand and held it to my mouth. I licked my lips searching for my words. I turned to Seth and thought back on every chance Finn got somehow or other, Seth manages to ruin it.
“You know Seth…” I said, hearing my voice, God do I sound awful. I took a deep breathe.
“Finn can’t seem to catch a break from ya…”
“Why, what are you talking about?” Seth asked.
“I mean, every time Finn finds his opportunity, somehow or another, like a plague you come in a twist it making it harder for him to get his championship!” I said looking at him.
“WHat you mean like a plague?”
“A plague, Seth! I see you as a plague!” I exclaimed. “Bad luck!”
“Finn gets his spot in the Royal Rumble, here comes the firey hail Seth Rollins in the rumble!” The crowd began to laugh.
“Finn has a shot to get his Wrestlmina moment, here comes Seth Rollins with the flies!”
“Finn steps into the ring with you, why I’m not surprised our food is all spoiled at home!” The crowd was roaring with laugher.
“To be quite honest with you, I don’t think your the right candidate for Finn…” I said smiling under my teeth.
“There is nothing but failure for both ends!”
“And what’d you suggest?” Seth roared. I looked at Finn, knowing what he really wanted. I wasn’t willing to give it to him though. I can’t. I almost lost him, I could lose him again, and he could lose it all. I can’t allow it. I shake my head-no. As Finn put his hands together, pleding for it.
Saved by the bell, here comes Kurt Angle. “(Y/N) I do understand where you are coming from and I agree, there is nothing Finn and Seth can fight for at this point. Except for a spot in the Elimination Chamber…” Kurt said. The crowd cheered.
“Whoever wins will get a chance to face Brock Lesner at Wrestlmina for the Universal title!”
Damn it!
Kevin Owen’s music hit as he and Lucy came out hand and hand, Lucy- bitchy looking as ever.
“Now, Now, Kurt let’s make things more interesting, why make it a three way?”
“You don’t deserve that championship!” I said, “They’ll have to extend it to get it around your waist!” I said.
“Why you…” Lucy muttered before being stopped by Kevin.
“What’s in it for you, Kev?” Kurt asked.
“Everything.” Kevin said, looking at us, with black eyes, Finn and I gasped as Balor appeared. I took one step back. He has turned against us.
It’s funny, he was cursed to be Finn’s power- to be a great wrestler, when all he has done is caused him misery. I could honestly say he is the real plague. Lucy smiled at me sinisterly, she knows about Balor. She must know well enough, and if Balor even had the slightly of feelings for me and I just turned him down; of course he would want to hurt me. Lucy would be the perfect candidate because she would like to see me hurt too. For whatever reason has to hurt me; I’m sure she has her reasons. This will make it difficult on us. How much can she know of Balor though?
Kurt had set up a match between Seth, Finn and Kevin for a three way to see who would go to the Elimination Chamber. Lucy and I sat on the side lines and watch them tear each other apart. It frustrated me, Finn was already part of the chamber match, why is he fighting for a spot? Unless I misunderstood him being just a match instead of being in the chamber? All the better reason to hope Finn would win tonight. Lucy did not keep her eyes off me, she stood perfectly still, not moving. She just kept glaring at me. My eyes were on Finn though. Finn was about to be thrown from the ring, until I caught him in between the ropes, pushing him back into the ring.
“Go baby!” I cried. Finn turned and nodded, before heading back. I smiled, knowing he is  grateful for my support.
Lucy saw how I helped Finn and it drove her crazy. She stormed over to me and knocked me off my feet. I got up to see her starring down at me.
“You were always jealous of me!” Lucy cried. “Everything of my success!”
“What success?” I shouted pushing her down to the ground. My fist went into her face, causing her to bleed.
“You’ve always bullied me around!” I cried. Kevin and Finn were distracted by us as they scrambled out of the ring to pull us apart. I turned to Finn,
“It’s Balor, just get back into the ring!” I cried.
“No!” Finn said. The ref started to count them out. Seth was going to be the winner.
“Finn, now go!” I demanded. Finn nodded climbing back into the ring.
Lucy got loose of Kevin and went after me; knocking me to the floor. At this point, Finn and I were fighting our own battles.
“You’re not going to bully me anymore!”  I screamed, putting Lucy into the sharp shooter. I enabled her enough to give me time to climb on the ring and giving her the cou-de-gras. The one move Finn never taught me, that I learned on my own. The bell rung- I looked up at the ring to find Finn had won!
Finn is going to the Elimination Chamber, and he did it all by himself, without Balor’s help! I couldn’t do nothing but smile at him and wait until we got into the back to celebrate.
“You did great!” I said, giving him a thousand kisses.
“I did?”
“Yes!” I said, nuzzling myself against him.
“Are you ready to go home?” He asked.
“Home to the hotel?”
“No, home to Florida.” He said softly, I smiled, giving him a hug.
“She wants to get married, she wants it perfect She wants her granddaddy preaching the service And she wants magnolias out in the country Not too many people, save her daddy some money”
Fergal sighed as he adjusted his suit jacket. The day had finally come and he didn’t know how to feel. He slipped the small silver flask into his inside jacket pocket and took one last look in the mirror.
“There’s still time to back out,” he told his reflection.
“Ya have to go,” he responded to no one at all. He sighed again and picked up his keys and left his apartment. He got into his car and drove to the one place he knew he shouldn’t be at.
A while later, Fergal arrived, parking in the far back so he could make a quick getaway if need be. He took a few deep breaths and noticed his hands were shaking, so he gripped the steering wheel a little tighter.
“Okay,” he murmured. “You can do this, Devitt. Get out of the car. Just try to make it through today and then you can go home, get blackout drunk and forget this day ever happened.” With one final deep breath, he slowly got out of the car and made his way through the parking lot and up to the venue. He had to give a small smile at the venue. It was just like she said it would be. Absolutely perfect.
“Ooh, she got it all planned out Yeah, I can see it all right now”
He slipped in and took a seat in the back, out of view from everyone. It wasn’t the getting recognized part he was worried about because the people here today were his friends, it was seeing... her. The love of his life, the woman he’d give up absolutely everything for. He gasped softly as he saw her come through, making final checks. She was so beautiful, her hair done in soft curls and a flower crown made of fragrant white magnolias, her favorite flowers. Fergal had to choke back a sob as he watched her.
“I'll wear my black suit, black tie, hide out in the back I'll do a strong shot of whiskey straight out the flask I'll try to make it through without crying so nobody sees”
He noticed her about to come back down the aisle and he got up quickly so she wouldn’t see him but it was too late.
“Fergal?” she called out softly. “That you?”
He exhaled deeply and wiped his eyes quickly before turning around to face her.
“H...hey,” he stuttered.
“Hi,” she replied with a soft smile. Just seeing her smile at him just about shattered him. He took in her features and noticed the way she smelled. It was vanilla, his favorite scent on her. He opened his mouth and then closed it. Truth was, he didn’t know what to say.
“I’m glad you came today, Fergal. It means a lot to me, even though...” she trailed off, looking away from him.
“... We broke up,” he finished for her. She nodded slowly and bit her lip, which was painted a soft pink. He wanted nothing more than to kiss her. But he couldn’t, especially not today.
“Yeah, she wanna get married But she don't wanna marry me” .
“Yeah,” she said sadly.  Fergal stared at her and he couldn’t help but remember the night everything changed for them.
“I remember the night when I almost kissed her Yeah, I kinda freaked out, we've been friends forever And I'd always wonder if she felt the same way”
“Still. Thank you for coming. It means a lot to us,” she told him.
“There’s nothin’ in the world I wouldn’t do for ya, ya know that,” Fergal said, his accent thicker than usual because he was trying to keep his emotions in check.
Even ask you to run away with me, he thought. He kept that part to himself, though, even though he badly wanted to confess that to her. He opened his mouth to tell her that he still loved her, that she was making a mistake, but he couldn’t break her heart a second time like that. He certainly couldn’t break his best friend’s heart, either.
“Zack will be happy to know you’re here for him, as well. He’s still kind of sad you turned down his invitation to be his best man.”
“When I got the invite, I knew it was too late“
“You know why I couldn’t do that. I couldn’t stand there, a few feet away from you, knowing it’s not me. I couldn’t watch yer da give you away to someone else, even if he is my best friend.”
“And I know her daddy's been dreading this day Oh, but he don't know he ain't the only one giving her away”
She gasped softly as Fergal’s confession rushed out. She looked down at her bare feet and the gorgeous aisle runner she had picked out for the wedding.
Fergal bit his lip as he watched her. He knew he shouldn’t have said anything but he couldn’t help himself. He never could when he was around her.
“I... I’m sorry, love. I shouldn’t have said that,” he said a little while later. He could feel his heart shattering into a million pieces as he watched her.
She blinked rapidly so as not to ruin her carefully done makeup. She looked up into his stunning blue eyes and sighed raggedly. Fergal reached out to hold her hand but she moved away.
“I...” she swallowed hard. “I have to go.” Fergal nodded and watched her leave.
“Fuck,” he muttered under his breath. He looked up quickly.
“Sorry, big guy,” he apologized, making the sign of the cross on his body. “I’ll go to confession later. Lord knows I need to.” He groaned quietly as he made his way back to his seat. He took his silver flask out and downed half of it in one go, wincing as the whiskey burned his throat. He sat there and waited for the wedding to begin. He bounced his leg up and down to keep himself steady. He was anxious as hell and the whiskey wasn’t helping anything.
A few minutes later, he saw her come back into the church and this time, she was wearing her dress. Fergal leaned forward and put his hands over his mouth as he saw her.
*By the way, this dress is available on Etsy! Search up boho wedding dress or blush wedding dress
Tumblr media
She’s so goddamn beautiful, he thought. He was captivated by her. He had to choke down a sob as he watched her move around the church, making final preparations. That was one of the things he loved and hated about her - she had to have everything just so, even if it was already perfect. He was hopelessly in love with her and he let her go into his best friend’s arms.
All the whiskey in the world couldn’t make him come close to feeling as intoxicated as he was watching her. He took his phone out of his pocket and snapped a quick photo of her. He would probably delete it later, but right now, he wanted to remember her just like that - as lovely as an Irish spring day. He sighed as he thought about taking her home to Bray, County Wicklow and getting married in Kilruddery House.
She left soon after, but not before sneaking one last glance at Fergal. Their eyes met and they seemed to be saying goodbye to each other without ever speaking a word.
Finally, it was time for the wedding to begin.
“Bet she got on her dress now, welcoming the guests now”
Fergal moved closer to the aisle so he could leave as quickly as possible later. But there was a thought in the back of his mind; he could make one last plea to her, try to get her to run away with him.
“I could try to find her, get it off of my chest now”
Common sense took a hold of him then. He knew he couldn’t do that - he’d lose her and Zack at the same time.
“But I ain't gonna mess it up, so I wish her the best now”
He watched the wedding procession begin then, but he looked on in a daze almost. He stood up at the appropriate time when she walked in, on the arm of her father. Fergal was the first face she saw and she had an unreadable expression on her face as she passed him by. He wanted nothing more than to pull her close and kiss her in front of everyone. He saw her father give her to Zack, clasping their hands together and telling him welcome to the family. He looked on as Zack smiled widely at her and her returning the smile with a dazzling one of her own.
Fergal rubbed his cheek as he tried to keep from crying. It wasn’t just the wedding, it was everything seemingly crashing down around him as he watched the love of his life marry his best friend.
When the minister (her grandfather) asked if anyone had any objections, he stood up abruptly, causing the people in the church to begin murmuring and whispering. She and Zack turned around with shocked and confused expressions on their faces. Fergal took one last long look at the two of them, and walked out, leaving her behind. Part of him wished she would chase after him, but he knew better. Besides, he’d be long gone by the time she finished up the ceremony.
“So I'm in my black suit, black tie, hiding out in the back Doing a strong shot of whiskey straight out the flask I'll try to make it through without crying so nobody sees Yeah, she wanna get married Yeah, she gonna get married But she ain't gonna marry me Whoa, but she ain't gonna marry me, no”
The month of January moved slowly but steadily.  Fergal kept at his physiotherapy schedule religiously, and Gemma was makes strides in hers.  Their usual rides together to and from the centre were a mix of chatty and quiet, much like before Gemma’s announcement.  However, this time around, there was no anger, no crying from that feeling of anger – it was replaced by her being apathetic, disinterested, disassociated.  The looming feeling of uneasiness about her future hung in the air constantly.  They didn’t bring it up much, the fact that she didn’t know exactly what she could work towards now that she couldn’t go back to hockey.
Fergal tried to hang out with and be around her more often than usual.  Seeing as she still had no one in Florida to keep her company, he was her only outlet.  He’d try to bring her spirits up – they’d go for lunch or dinner, watch movies, go for walks around Lake Baldwin; sometimes he would be successful in lifting her spirits, other times he could see right through her and tell she was putting on a show.  He was scared for her, and he only admitted that to her in a way that barely scratched the surface for how much he was actually scared for her.  Was he worried she’d become depressed, even more so than she probably already was?  Yes, of course.  Was he worried she’d become completely disinterested in everything – her health, her well-being, her friendships, her relationships?  Absolutely; it was always a possibility for someone in her position.  Was he worried she might hurt herself?  Was he worried she’d do something…stupid?  He didn’t know what to think.
He hated the uneasiness and he hated how, despite how close they had become, he still wasn’t able to completely read her.  Yes, he was able to decipher most emotions now, and how she was feeling in most situations just by looking at her, but it wasn’t enough for him.  He wanted to know her wholly.  He wanted to be able to help her without her having to ask for it or act out first.  He wanted to be able to read her like a book; to crack the spine and open her fully.  It would have made his life so much easier.  There would have been so many more opportunities to help her, to understand her.
And then there was Rami.
Ever since Rami had moved to Orlando, every February he hosted a NXT skating party as a way for all the new recruits and other wrestlers to let loose, have some fun, and get to know each other better.  Fergal had learned about it his first year in and had great times at them ever since, even going so far as to make sure he was in Orlando for the annual event.  But with all of the recent drama, he had almost forgotten about it.  When Rami had sent him a reminder text, asking him if he was attending and if he would be bringing Gemma, Fergal’s mind went in to overdrive as to how he was going to approach the subject with her.  Should he do it delicately?  Should he just surprise her and bring her there?  Should he not even tell her about it at all and just go alone?  Rami would kill him, and so would Gemma, to be perfectly honest.  Plus, he could never do that to her.
He had no idea what he was going to do.
It was a while before he decided what to do – only two days before the actual skating party.  Out for coffee, he managed to catch her in a good mood, and thought there would be no better time to ask.  He knew if she was in a good mood, she’d be more likely to say yes – anybody would.  “Listen, can I talk to you about something real quick?” he asked as casually as he could.
“What about?”
“It’s about Rami.”
Gemma’s eyes went wife, her face flush with worry.  “Oh my God, what happened to Rami?” she asked, preparing herself for bad news.
“Oh no no – fuck – nothing’s wrong with Rami.  I started that completely wrong,” Fergal shook his head at himself.  He was such a tit.  “Every year, Rami hosts a skating party for all the NXT wrestlers s they get to know each other and have fun,” Fergal explained, noticing how Gemma blinked a few times at the mention of skating.  “Anyway, I go every year, because I love Rami, and I love the idea behind why he started it and continues to do it, and, well…he’s obviously invited you to come along,” he let the words hang in the air for a bit.  “And I’d really like you to come.”
“You would?”
“Of course I would,” Finn stressed.  As if he wouldn’t want her there.  “I know you can’t skate right now but I think it would still be nice for you to hang out with everyone.  I think…I don’t know…I think it might be good for you.”
Gemma mulled over Fergal’s words.  She looked away.  “Thanks for inviting me,” she began.  Fergal knew it.  He set himself up for a denial.  At least he tried; he could at least tell Rami he tried.  “I think you’re right.  It would be good for me.  I’ll come with you.”
Fergal practically had to do a double take.  “Wait…you’ll come?”
Gemma smirked.  “You thought I’d say no, didn’t you?”
“Kind of.”
Gemma shrugged her shoulders, a smile still on her face.  “I don’t blame you.  But I need to get out more, I think.”
“You’re making the right decision,” Fergal said.  “These things are super fun.  Everybody goes and has a blast.”
“Should I bring anything?”
He was happy that she was making the effort; that she was going to immerse herself in a situation where she could meet new people in an environment she hadn’t been in in a while.  He knew she hadn’t been to a rink in months, save for the arena for her retirement ceremony.  “I mean, I don’t think so, but I’ll text Rami.  Usually he orders in all the coffee and hot chocolate, but I don’t think he’ll pass up homemade goods.  What were you thinking?”
Gemma shrugged her shoulders.  “Just something simple.  Chocolate chip cookies or something.  When I was a kid, after every game I had, my mom would let me have a brownie.”
Fergal smiled.  “Then you should make brownies.”
Fergal could feel Gemma’s nervous energy the second she opened the door.  He had gone inside so he could help her carry out any trays of treats she had made, except he saw her scurrying about her apartment nervously, trying to remember everything she needed to bring.  There were two separate trays of homemade brownies.  There was her sweater in case she got cold.  She contemplated bringing her pair of skates to lend to someone in case they didn’t have a pair, but when Fergal said all that was taken care of at the rink, she put them back in her room.  The fact that she had a pair of her skates in her apartment this entire time felt like a stab to his heart.
“You don’t have to be nervous, you know,” Fergal said as he stacked the trays of brownies on top of teach other and picked them up.  “Rami’s gonna be really happy to see you.”
“That’s like, what?  Two out of fifty or sixty people?” she asked sarcastically.  Seeing the look on his face, she took a deep breath.  “I’m trying to remain calm,” she clarified to him.  “It’s normal to be nervous for this sort of thing, isn’t it?”
“Of course it is.  I’m just telling you that you have no reason to be.”
“Easier said than done, Ferg.  But we should go.”
The drive to the skating rink was just under half an hour, and during that time, Gemma was eerily quiet.  She had been looking out the window for most of the ride, answering Fergal’s questions politely but curtly, seemingly lost in her own thoughts.  He knew she was probably trying to calm her nerves but a little voice at the back of his mind told him it was probably more.  She was hiding something from him and he wanted to know what.
When he pulled into the parking lot and drove into a spot, he looked over at her.  Her leg was jiggling uncontrollably as she looked out the window towards the building.  He put the car in park and took the keys out of the ignition.  “Hey…you alright?” he asked softly.
Gemma took a deep breath.  “Ferg, take me home.”
“What?”
“I can’t do this.”
“Gemma,” Fergal shifted in his seat to lean closer to her, grabbing her hand and holding it in his.  “Gemma, what’s wrong?  Tell me what’s wrong.”
She shook her head.  “I thought I’d be able to do it, but I can’t.  I can’t do it.”
“Yes you can.”
“There’s gonna be so many memories,” she said, her voice shaking.  “Oh god, this was such a bad idea.”
“Gemma, this wasn’t a bad idea.  It’ll be okay,” Fergal attempted to calm her down.  “Come on, talk to me.”
“You don’t know what it’s like, Fergal,” she continued.  “I can’t…I’m not going to be able to go in there without everything coming back.  Every drill I’ve ever worked on, every practice, every game, everything that I ever worked for that led me here, unable to another fucking game ever again.”
“Listen to me,” Fergal gripped her hand tighter.  “All that work was not for nothing.  You can do this, Gemma.  I know you can.”
“It’s going to be so hard,” she gulped.
“I know it will be.  I know,” he nodded his head.  Without thinking, he brought his other hand up to wipe a tear from her cheek.  She grabbed his hand and kept it cupped on her face.  “But I know you can do it, Gemma.”
“I don’t think I can, Ferg,” she shook her head.
“I know you can,” Fergal said firmly.  “Gemma, you’re the strongest fucking person I know.  I know you can do this.  I know you can go in there.”
Gemma took a few deep breaths, trying to take in what Fergal was telling her.  “You don’t…you don’t think people will ask --”
“No.  We’re all athletes, Gemma,” Fergal cut her off.  “When they see your brace they’ll know and won’t ask questions.”  She nodded her head at his reassurance.  “Besides, what about all those brownies you made?” he asked, trying to make her smile.
He succeeded, with the smallest of smiles appearing on her face.  “I’d take them back home and eat them all myself,” she deadpanned.  “You know I’d be able to do it, too.”
He smiled back at her, unable to keep the grin off his face.  He rubbed his thumb across her cheek gently.  “You wanna go inside?”
She thought about it for a second before nodding her head gently.  “You’ll be with me, right?”
“I’ll be wherever you want me to be.”
They got out of the car together, Fergal opening the back door to retrieve the trays of brownies while Gemma stared at the building, psyching herself up.  As he approached her from behind, he balanced the trays on one hand and grabbed her hand with the other, giving her a reassuring squeeze.  He could feel her body shaking as they walked towards the entrance slowly.  Gemma even stopped a few times, taking a few deep breaths and listening to reassuring words from Fergal before she would continue.  She opened the door, unwilling to let go of Fergal’s hand.
As they were about to make their way into the skating rink area, past the mezzanine, Gemma stopped again.  She was able to see the rink boards through the glass panels on the door.  Every so often, she’d see heads with knit hats on them gliding around.  There was a faint sound of voices, and even some screams.
“Hey,” Fergal said softly, squeezing her hand.  “You can do this.”
She wasn’t so sure.  Her feet felt like cement.  “You always believe in me so much,” she said.  “Why?”
Fergal shrugged his shoulders.  “Because you give me reason to.”
God.  He was saying things like that and holding her hand, expecting her not to blush or swoon?  Impossible.  She gave him a tight-lipped smile.  “I don’t know how…or why I do.”
“You just do,” Fergal said.  “You underestimate yourself, Gemma.  I’m not saying you’re the strongest person I know as a cliché.  You really are one of the strongest people I know.”
She felt like she was about to cry again.  Between looking at Fergal and looking at the rink, she was going to become a ball of tears at any moment.  “Well, you’re the strongest person I know for putting up with me.  I still don’t know how or why you do it.”
Fergal remembered back to the first time Gemma asked him why he hung out with her if she was such a rigid and emotional bitch.  Back then, he told her he liked her, and that much was true.  He did like her.  And now?  He liked her even more.  Despite everything telling him not to, he did.
“Let’s go Ferg.  Before I have time to change my mind,” Gemma’s words interrupted his thoughts.  She led him through the door, the cold air hitting him quickly.
To their right they immediately saw Rami, who was opening a box of donuts on the table with the coffee and hot chocolate.  It was as if he immediately felt their presence, because they didn’t have to look at him too long before he turned around.  “HEY!” he exclaimed, a giant smile overtaking his face.  “You guys made it!”
“Yeah, sorry we’re a bit late,” Fergal said, noticing Rami look down at their hands.  “Gemma made some brownies.”
“You did?!” Rami exclaimed.  “Aw Gemma, you’re the best!”
“I figured everyone would enjoy a good homemade brownie after skating,” she smiled.
“Over some coffee and hot chocolate?  You bet,” Rami said as Fergal laid the trays on the table, right next to the donuts, taking off the cling wrap covers.  “Ferg, you need to put on a pair of skates right now.”
“Now?” “Right now,” Rami repeated.  He looked back at Gemma.  “Did Fergal tell you the number of times he fell flat on his ass last year?”
Gemma giggled.  Seeing the cool, calm, and collected Fergal Devitt falling would be a sight to behold.  “He didn’t.”
“I lost count somewhere around thirty-seven,” Rami winked.  “Let’s just say he’s not as graceful on the ice as he is in the ring.”
“Will you shut it?” Fergal quipped, throwing the balled up cling wrap at Rami.
“Where’s his skates, then?” Gemma asked Rami.  “I’ve gotta see this for myself.”
“He’s gotta get his size over there,” Rami motioned to the back of the room where an attendant was handing out skates.  “You think you can put them on him while I take care of this?  I can carry you over to the penalty box to watch everyone when I’m done, if that’s cool with you.”
Fergal looked towards Gemma, seeing her smile.  “Yeah, that sounds great.  Thanks Rami.”
Fergal couldn’t have asked for a better day.  Rami had snapped a picture of them as Gemma was lacing up Fergal’s skates like he was a kid, uploading it to Twitter with some witty caption.  Gemma seemed to be having a great time, despite having to sit in the penalty box for the duration of the day.  Despite this, she had a smile on her face for what seemed like the entire time, and – much to Fergal’s surprise – especially when someone would skate up and strike up a conversation with her, particularly any of the girls.  She made Tommaso her personal slave who fetched her coffee and donuts, and she took a slew of selfies with Nhooph and Mandy.
After a while Fergal skated up to the penalty box.  Mandy was hanging around talking to Gemma, but when she saw Fergal she skated away, telling Gemma they’d talk more later.  He almost fell opening the door and stepping into the penalty box, which caused Gemma to snort and laugh until he was sitting down on the bench.  “You love to laugh at my misfortune, don’t you?”
“I can’t help it,” she giggled.  “An Irishman attempting to skate is my weakness.  What can I say?”
Fergal couldn’t help but smile.  “You’re my weakness, you know that?”
He knew he would make her blush with that statement.  She looked away from him briefly before meeting his eyes again.  “You know before?  In the car?  When I was freaking out?”
“Yeah.”
“What would you have done if I didn’t let up?  Like if I kept demanding you take me home?”
“I don’t know.  I just would have tried to calm you down, I guess.  I would have tried to make you feel as comfortable as possible.”
Gemma looked down between them, biting her lip.  She reached across the short space between them and placed her hand over his.  “I don’t…I don’t know if you know this, Ferg…but you’ve got this, like, aura about you.  I feel like whenever I’m with you I’m not this crazy, fucked up person.  I feel so…calm…and I feel so…I don’t know, put together?  Like I don’t feel like I’m in pieces around you.  I feel whole.  As whole as I can be right now.  I don’t think you’ll ever know how much I appreciate that.”
Without saying another word he leaned forward and kissed her.  A shiver ran up his spine upon the realization that she was responding, which meant she didn’t want him to stop, which mean she liked what he did, or at least accepted it, or – God, he was already fucking overthinking this.  Her lips tasted like the remnants of hot chocolate; he assumed his tasted like one of her brownies.  He carefully put one of his hands on her thigh before opening his mouth wider, slipping his tongue along the bottom of her lip delicately.
He completely forgot they were in a public place, surrounded by people, until he heard Rami’s skates scratching the ice and his voice howl, “Somebody’s gonna get a zam-boooonnnneeeerrrrr!” as he skated past the penalty box at lightning speed.  Gemma broke away at that point, trying to suppress her giggle as she looked away in embarrassment, resting her head on Fergal’s shoulder.  Fergal gave Rami the middle finger, which Rami pretended to catch and store in his heart, much to Fergal’s amusement.
When Fergal looked back down at Gemma, a shy smile had taken over her face.  The only thing on his mind now was when he’d be able to kiss her again.
