[Image ID: There is a big Irish Wolfhound laying on his side on the ground in front of a lit fire place. He is winking at the servant coming in, shown as a shadow across the floor. Laying on top of the dog is Ferris, Halt is laying between his paws, and Caitlyn is curled up on his stomach. They all look calm and comfy in their sleep. /End ID]

So, some time ago the Ranger Corps discord made a bunch of headcanons about this Irish wolfhound that the o’carrick kids had. (Proud to say that I came up with it, and the other made wonderful additions to it). We ended up naming him Madra, which is Irish for “Dog”. (Caitlyn, the one who named him, was really young when they got him, ok).
If y’all are interested especially, be prepared for more content concerning this. (maybe).

Hello!! I’m writing a story about Caitlyn and the O’Carrick family visiting Araluen!
If you want to read, it’s under the cut :)
The guards of the Hibernian king marched through the streets of castle Araluen. Halt and Crowley stood in Crowley’s room. “Halt why are you so anxious for this?” The ranger commander said as he buttoned up his formal ranger clothing. “I have my reasons.” Halt turned around. “You said that princess Caitlyn is also coming?” Crowley nodded, his red hair getting a little looser in the braid and a bit of hair getting in front of his eyes. He sighs. “Halt you were right. Can you please braid it for me?” He mumbled. He didn’t like being wrong, especially in front of Halt. Halt walked over to him and sat down on the bed. He patted the green covers for Crowley to sit. “Always the red heads.” Crowley turned around to face the ranger with a glare. “Atleast I know how to cut my hair.” “Then why is it so long, Crow?” “Because you like braiding it.” Crowley rolled his eyes when he said that and smirked when he saw the other ranger turn a little red. Halt immediately shut up and rebraided his hair.
Crowley and Halt walked into the big hall where the biggest part of the evening would be spent. Crowley looked at Halt. “Why do you have your hood on?” “No reason. stop asking me these useless questions.”
Crowley got a little confused at the annoyed and harsh tone of the ranger. He took a second and realised that Halt was uncomfortable. “Are you okay?” Crowley halted and grabbed Halt’s shoulder to turn him around.
Halt froze up a little when he felt the warm grip of Crowley. He spun around to see the concerned face of the commander. He took a second to stare at his face, illuminated by the light of the torches. Halt looked down and let out a deep sigh. “I… I have a history with that family.” “What kind of history?”
Halt kept silent. He felt unsure and like a rock was on his stomach. “Halt?” “Nevermind.”
The younger ranger took Crowley’s hand and led him to the big hall. “I am keeping my hood up though.”

Do you know what would be really cool? A TV show featuring young Halt and Ferris. Episodes include:
• Halt finding Pritchard in the forest, maybe saving his life
• Halt and Ferris, envying each other’s lot in life, switch places for a day. It goes about as well as you’d expect
• Halt being totally in love with the legend of the Sunrise Warrior
• Halt kills a man for the first time. (It was to save Caitlyn.) Pritchard helps him come to terms with it, and Halt is one step closer the the lethal man we see in RA
• Halt and Ferris and their family go on a sea voyage. Both Halt and Ferris are incredibly seasick. Halt maintains his dignity a bit better, which earns him praise from his parents about acting like a true prince. Halt doesn’t have the energy to tell them that he cares more about his own dignity than stupid princely behavior, so he pukes on their fancy clothes instead. He thinks it gets the point across.
• Halt learning how to forge seals!
• Halt being the best prince Clonmel could ever hope for, but he doesn’t know it
• some of Ferris’s assasination attempts, and the people and/or events that pushed him to do it
• Halt cutting his hair with a knife for the first time, while trying to stay undercover for some sort of self-assigned mission
• more Caitlyn
• Halt learning leadership and tactical skills from his parents but using them in ways that would horrify them
If any of you have any more ideas, feel free to comment!

what is you favourite sentence/paragraph? read it to us! (Any fic)
And this is the one I was going to answer separately!
So, in The Royal Ranger, Halt is autistic, and the term I'm using for it in-universe is phóg laechonnachie, fae-kissed. Crowley initially misjudged Halt, but once learning a bit about autism, he's making more of an effort to be nice to him. It also bears mentioning that, up to this point, Halt's parents have always considered his autism to be a problem and thus haven't wanted anyone to know about it.
With all that preamble out of the way, enjoy this ending to chapter 8 of The Royal Ranger!
Halt nodded and the men started back to their seats. After just a few steps Crowley heard Halt stop and he paused as well, looking back.  Halt took some books off the shelf. Crowley recognised them as two of the books he had consulted on fae-kissed children.  ‘Ní hé sin an áit a dtéann siad seo,’ he muttered. That’s not where these go, Crowley translated to himself.  ‘Sorry. I was looking at them some weeks ago, must’ve misremembered where they went.’  Halt’s gaze swung to him. He was looking at Crowley’s cheek, he noticed. It was the most directly Halt had looked at him in some time. ‘Bit advanced for you,’ he said.  ‘Yeah, I had to translate the passages I wanted. But there was something I heard mentioned…’ Crowley frowned as he tried to remember the words. ‘Phog lachonnacha, I think. I got curious.’  Halt frowned. ‘Who was talking to you about the phóg laechonnachie?’  Now Crowley realised this conversation had been a mistake. He was at a loss for how to answer. He didn’t want to list a random name and potentially get someone innocent in trouble, but he also sensed it wouldn’t go over well if he said anything about his conversation with Prince Ferris, as there was no way he’d be able to make it sound pleasant.  But Crowley let the silence drag on too long as he thought of how to answer, and Halt sighed, looking away. ‘And it was in reference to me, wasn’t it?’  ‘Yes,’ Crowley said after a moment.  Halt’s grip tightened momentarily on the books; then he shoved them on a shelf farther down and strode to the door.  ‘Your Highness, wait,’ Crowley said. Halt stopped and glanced back in his general direction. ‘I at least want to say I don’t think badly of you for it.’  ‘How kind of you,’ Halt said, his voice testy. ‘You’ve deemed me a person worthy of being treated with basic respect, I’m sure that took you a great deal of effort.’   ‘I’m sorry,’ Crowley said softly. ‘That wasn’t exactly what I wanted to say. I…suppose I meant that I don’t think it will hold you back as King. And that when it comes time for you to take the throne, I’ll support you as best I can, if you’ll have me as an advisor.’  Halt was still silent and Crowley sighed, rubbing his forehead. ‘Sorry. I’m really not phrasing this well.’  Halt shrugged and his voice was tinged with bitterness when he spoke. ‘Better than how some people think of me,’ he muttered. He sank into his chair and leaned against the arm of it, looking into the fire.  Crowley moved to a chair closer to him. ‘I know I wasn’t all that…well…nice to you early on. I’m sorry about that, that’s on me. What do you say we start over?’  Halt’s eyes slid to him again, and he fixed the Ranger with a penetrating, steady gaze. He still wasn’t making eye contact, but Crowley felt seen in a way he never had before.  After what seemed like an eternity, he nodded.  Crowley grinned and extended his hand. ‘Hi. Nice to meet you, Your Highness. Crowley Meratyn, former Ranger of Hogarth Fief in Araluen.’  Halt took Crowley’s hand in a surprisingly firm grip and shook it. ‘Halt O’Carrick. And as long as my parents aren’t around, don’t call me “Your Highness”.’

Once was Food Poisoning, Twice was Coincidence, But Three Times is Attempted Murder
Two brothers standing on the ledge of a cliff overlooking the kingdom. Two young princes, their father close to death. The oldest is closer to the edge, not in danger of falling. But one hard push could have fixed that.
That was an hour ago and Halt wishes Ferris would have just done that.
Instead, he had been shoved out of their boat in the middle of the lake. Ferris was madly pounding the water with his oar trying to hit Halt upside the head hard enough to knock him out. Thankfully for Halt, Ferris was not the fitter of the two. That didn’t mean his blows were light. Halt was pretty sure he was going to drown.
At least a fall from the cliff would have been instant death from that height. Not like the slow suffocation of drowning. But really, Halt would prefer to keep on living. Or at the very least for his brother to shut up.
“Just hold still, Halt! I’m trying to help you.”
The liar, he only wanted his target to stop moving. Halt grit his teeth. No matter, he’d make this work.
Halt did hold still, and when the paddle came flying towards his head, he grabbed it and yanked. Ferris came tumbling out of the boat with a splash. Halt hauled himself up and leaned over to grab the oar now floating in the water.
Now Halt could have proceeded to paddle home and tell the tale of unfortunate woe where Ferris drowned. But he did actually love his brother and he knew who was the favorite twin. So he dragged Ferris’ sorry butt into their small boat and pretended to not see his near-drowning for what it was; an attempted assassination.
------------------
“And you won’t tell Momma and Papa why?”
Halt winced as Caitlyn applied another poultice to one of his many oar-shaped bruises. “They’d never believe me. Besides, they like Fenris better and you know it would kill both of them to punish him for three attempted murders.”
“They love you…” Caitlyn began.
“I know that, but love has nothing to do with it. I’m leaving.”
Caitlyn sighed and wrapped a blanket around her brother’s shoulders. “I understand. You get some rest and I’ll gather supplies for you.”
------------------
Caitlyn rode with Halt for half a day. She hugged him and wept over him.
“I love you,” she said.
“Me too,” he said softly. “I’ll write, I promise.”
She took his face in her hands. “You’re going to do great things, Halt O’Carrick, great things.”
As Halt rode off, he looked back many times. Each time he did his best to memorize the image of his dear sister. Perhaps that is why it was so clear to him when he met her son.

Fun thing, me and my dad went to walk the dog yesterday
He has read ra
And then we came up with the question
How old is Sean?’
The old man (my dad) said that Sean was probably born when Halt left. I kindly reminded him of the fact that Caitlyn would have probably been 15 or younger by then
I don’t think Ferris would do that to Caitlyn. Even though he’s a little shit who probably would scream because of a rat, he wouldn’t want to ruin the family name like that
So probably 2 to 4 years later so let’s say three
Will is already born then and would be like a year old. And in book eight, which is 7 years later (I’m pretty sure book 5 and 6 are in the same year) so tgat would mean he’s a year or two younger than Will.
I’m other words: if I’m correct, Sean is like 19 or 18?
Why do all of their kings get coronated at like age 18 or 20?😭
Or I’m just being stupid because it might’ve said in the books
But I’m bored
Yea
