African Wild Hare
hello !
Tumblr media
welcome back to my blog ! this week we are talking about the african wild hare ! it’s getting exciting hare :) haha
The scientific name for this organism is Felis Silvestris, but it is commonly called an African Wild Cat. The taxonomic classifications are as follows:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Carnivora
Family: Felidae
Genus: Felis
Species: F. silvestris
The fur on an African wildcat is a light grey, and sometimes it has a pale yellow or reddish color. Their ears are reddish or grey, with long faint yellow hairs are the ear, which on a car is called the pinna. Their strips around the face are dark ochre to a black color. A long dark stripe runs along the back and the stomach which is a white color. They have two dark rings around their legs and behind the legs are stripped. They can be measuered up 47-59.7 cm (which is 18.5-23.5 inches) for a male. Females can be up to 40.6-55.8 cm (which is 16.0-22.0 inches).
Tumblr media
African wildcats are all across Africa and parts of the Arabian Peninsula to the Caspian sea. They have been noted to be seen in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt. They are also found in the savannas of West Africa, Mauritania to the Horn of Africa, and also Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Sudan, and towards South Africa. They live in hilly and mountanious places like the Hoggar Mountains.
Female wildcats give birth to 1-3 kittens, mostly during the warm season. The African wildcat often gives birth in hollows in the ground. The gestation period lasts between 56 and 69 days.
Tumblr media
The kittens are born blind and need the care of the mother. They stay with their mother for five to six months and are fertile after six months.
This organism mainly preys on small rodents but they also eat small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects and other invertebrates. The largest recorded preys for the wildcats are hares, springhares and birds up to the size of guineafowl. They also have been known to feed on jackal berries. Mice and rats are preferred, but if scare (not enough), they will switch up to arthropods and birds. African Wild Cats detect prey by sight or sound, stalks in crouch with head low. They rush forward to prey and pounce with the claws of the forefeet.
thanks for reading my blog ! see you next week :)

www.indiasendangered.com
Northern River Terrapin or Four toed Terrapin (Batagur baska)
Critically Endangered (CR) on the IUCN Red List
Protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, India.
Included on Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), making international trade in this species illegal
HABITAT
This terrapin is found in tidal areas of large rivers, sandbars and riverbanks.
RANGE
The terrapin is native to India, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia. It is regionally extinct in Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam. Sunderbans is a good habitat range for this species.
PHYSICAL FEATURES
Head-Body Length – 60 cm,
Males have longer and thicker tails than females.
The snout is upturned.
Carapace or shell is black or gray. Females and juveniles are olive grey in colour.
Males usually have white eyes. Females – grey to brown eyes.
Species recognition feature – 4 claws in front feet. Other turtles have 5.
FAST FACTS
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Asia’s largest freshwater turtle.
The terrapins nest from Dec-March and can lay from 13-30 eggs.
When the female has laid her clutch of eggs she covers the nest with sand and then rises and falls on the surface to compact the sand, the resultant rhythmic ‘tun tonk’ sound has led to the species’ Malay name of ‘tuntong.
They can migrate 50-60 miles during breeding season to reach their sandbanks nesting sites.
The terrapin is known to nest at the same place during the same time each year. It is believed that this is the main reason that has led to people capturing the females and leading to the species population decline.
POPULATION
Exact numbers are not known but almost all batagur species of terrapins remain in limited numbers in tiny fragmented habitats.
THREATS
Over collection of adults and eggs from nesting sites.
Illegal poaching for meat and eggs.

Field Guide (Austin's Cupcake Handbook)
This project was made based on a fieldguide project. We are told to go out to a specific area and find objects that you could compare and contrast. I chose cupcakes and visited five different shops. I compared price, popularity, flavors and overall appearance. I used vectors and clipping masks to style my cupcakes. I wanted to go for something simple and elegant but with a fun attitude.

Field Guide - Austin's Street Art
For this field guide I wanted to showcase the interesting forms of art expressed on facades of buildings all around Austin. I wanted to emphasize how the walls themselves are the 'canvas' and the art itself uses a variety of materials such as iron, ceramic, glass, plexiglass, and paint. In this book there is art from downtown and from south congress.

Field Guide
FIeField Guide by monicagonzalezleyv
For this project I had to create a field guide consisting of a set of similar things in the Austin environment. I chose to create a field guide to the best bakeries and desserts in Austin. I made a book that contains illustrations, photographs and designs created by me. This field guide contains 12 different bakeries where you can get the best desserts in town.

Field Guide
Spring 2013
For my field guide, the topic I chose was breakfast tacos. The idea was that since Austin is known for its breakfast tacos, and everyone seems to have an opinion on which restaurant is the best, i thought the field guide would be interesting to come in the form of a playing card. On this card, you could add your own imput by rating how much you enjoyed the food on a scale from one to ten, while also getting necessary information like pricing, locations, and ingredients that could be added.
**the left is the front of the playing card and the right is the bottom**

A Field Guide: Congress Avenue Architecture
Title: A Field Guide: Congress Avenue Architecture
Instructor: Natalie Davis
I focused on the architecture of North Congress Avenue for my field guide book. The sky line is a defining aspect of Austin, Tx. This field guide provides information on the buildings architects, history, and current use of the buildings. I chose to reflect the aspect of blueprints in my design of the book, creating vectors of the buildings, and creating a system on each page using blue dashed lines to highlight aspects of each building layout. I bound the book with a perfect bind.
