Did anybody else noticed that during the Old Men Yaoi dinner there were so many moments in which Irving asked a question, the camera was set on Burt's face but it was Fields's voice answering to the question? I feel it happened at least a couple of time, what a brilliant way to show how much power Fields seems to hold over Burt, what a way to stage Fields answering for Burt. It reminds me of a ventriloquist.

a couple other thoughts re: burt g. I don't think he's ever been a severed worker or if he has then he's very aware of . The implied long history with the company, the attempts to rekindle the same kind of humor burt and irv had and it seeming much more foreign to irving than it is to burt. Burt's acting suspicious on top of all that ofc.

Also, just relating to the workplace relationship and the discussions they had about it? Them being staunch Lutherians and gay. How they immediately think they had sex when they had not even kissed...

And this is more vibes-wise and speculative, but Burt being the "wild child" and one who needs to Get To Heaven to be with Fields, Burt pursuing Irving (in both senses of the word, to my eye),... It doesn't feel like love or a relationship purely based on it, but more like a keeper and his charge. Making sure he stays on the straight and narrow.

I know my church growing up was pretty progressive, but Lutherans typically believe that the only thing that gets you into Heaven is faith in Jesus, so I find it kinda weird that Burt's main motivation to get severed is so his innie could go to Heaven when they explicitly mention he goes to a Lutheran church. Hoping that there's more there and that this isn't a strange oversight

ok so this is the season of adolescence and so everyone said fuck the overarching plots, fuck the mysteries bc Dylan's wife is cheating on him with him, meanwhile Helly and Mark are both inadvertent victims of assault which seemingly no one mentions bc Helena made goo goo eyes at Mark and further dehumanized his wife by not even remembering her name, while Burt is being ominous and off-putting as we see his borderline stilted and worn relationship and while he was scoundrel maxxing there seemed to be some pivotal plot building going on which seemingly no one cares about! Woohoo. Like there is seemingly a hidden agenda there!?? no one sensed the duplicitous vibes. Lumon is seemingly invading Irving's personal life. And no one gaf???

Like tell me yall saw someone with a tattoo on their inner thumb going through Irving's documents during this very same dinner. I know I didn't imagine it. They looked like Irving's documents. Plus Burt had been following him. And the person going through his stuff was was spliced in between the footage of their weird throuple, kinda poly-kinda cheating date. Implying that it was planned bc the person was doing it specifically while Irving was gone. Then there was the mention of Burt working at Lumon 20 years ago alongside his general unnerving, calculated vibes like tell me y'all saw that. I'm not insane.

Am I misunderstanding something or has media literacy truly perished.

Severance theory spoilers for up to season 2 Episode 6 theory under the cut

Burt was certain he was going to Hell and Fields instead of trying to get him to repent what he did, convinced him to make an innie that is free of sin to go to heaven for him. Whatever Burt did, Fields agrees that it was bad enough that there is no way that he could ever be redeemed in the eyes of God.

My theory is that Burt worked for Lumon before the Severance program and most likely helped develop it. There were probably a good number of people who died or were left disabled by the experiments not to mention that there are probably more than a couple of people like miss Casey that are being held captive by Lumon to exist solely as severed employees.

Burt was swept up in the cult of Lumon but began to feel guilt about what he was doing which lead to him and Fields searching for a new religion which eventually lead to him becoming a Severed employee himself.
