Hello! Maybe this has been asked before. But any tips on figuring out your foundation color? I can never seem to get it right.
Ahhh, the good old annoying foundation dilemma. It’s either too dark, too light, too yellow, too pink, not pink enough, doesn’t give enough coverage or looks cakey. Finding a foundation that matches your skintone perfectly sometimes seems impossible. If you’ve been applying foundation on to the back of your hand to see whether or not it matches your skintone; you’ve been doing it wrong.
First of all, I recommend when colour matching that you wear no makeup, have your hair tied back and wear an outfit where your chest/decolletage is visible, this will help you match the colour accurately.
Makeup Counters
Sometimes (although not always) a makeup artist/consultant in a makeup store or at a makeup counter will be able to match your skin tone to foundation, whenever I’m looking for a foundation I usually ask for a sample of the foundation in the shade I’ve been matched to and also a shade that is similar, but slightly lighter or darker, this is because: A. Under store lighting foundation may appear to match you perfectly, but look orange the moment you step outside into natural lighting and; B. because certain foundations (especially those of the oil controlling variety) can oxidize and change to a darker colour or different undertone so you may actually need a lighter shade. Once you know your foundation match in one brand or product, it is much easier to find other matches.
Online apps
Which brings me to my next point; once you know your foundation shade in a couple of brands you can start taking out some of the guesswork and get to know your skin better. Websites like http://findation.com help you find foundations that will match your skin-tone based on the current shades of foundation you use and are especially helpful when buying a drugstore foundation or ordering a product online. Temptalia also has a great reader generated tool called the “Foundation Matrix”
Display Testers
Display testers aren’t the best or most hygienic option when it comes to testing makeup, but sometimes they can be the most convenient. I’m not an advocate for using testers on your skin/face/eyes/lips, but this is one exception. Having a play with the testers in store can help you get a better idea of what texture and tones you like in your foundation.
The Test
When testing foundation I recommend that you take three shades that you think are close to your skin-tone and “swatch” them on your decolletage. Blend them in slightly and whichever shade blends in is your ideal shade. As a general rule your foundation should match your body but also not look obvious on your face or neck (or you will get the dreaded tide line) If you haven’t found your perfect match with the first three swatches, try some other shades and also consider looking at other brands. Not every brand and every product is suitable for everyone.
I also recommend taking a compact mirror, heading outside and checking that the shade matches in natural light before committing to purchase. If the foundation matches in natural light it should look seamless in every light.

Low Fidelity Prototype Iterations
After testing my low fid on 3 users I got some great feedback that I will take into my next level of prototyping.
Findation feature
“I like the idea of buying ethical makeup but when it comes to buying foundation online, I would be hesitant because its kind of hard to find your shade online. There is a website called findation where you can put in the foundation that you already have and it finds other foundations that are in the same shade. You could do something like that to ensure users are getting the right shade.”
User 1 and 2 pointed out that with foundation, girls may be hesitant to purchase makeup online since its hard to find your colour.
User 1 suggested that the solution incorporated a feature similar to findation
If you haven't tried a foundation on before and can't make it into a store it is near impossible. Colour swatches on your screen aren't enough to make a decision on. Colours can look different between different monitors.
Findation.com is a global foundation matching engine that solves that problem.

Menu
I asked the users which menu they preferred out of the hamburger menu compared to normal interactive nav. They all said that they would probably prefer the menu to always be visible when using the site. (left). One mentioned that it was just adding an unnecessary step having a hamburger one as you have to go into it to see what other pages there are to go to. One user mentioned that they would like to see the price that you are shopping in, within the nav, as that is important to them when shopping.

Preferences
In my low fid prototype, I had the preference selection page on the home page of the website. I found that all users testing the prototype had an issue finding this page once they had left it. I think that this needs to be on its own page, not the homepage so that users can navigate easily back to it.
Another change to this will be when users can filter down their preferences. Two users said the same thing around this. Why is there the option to shop cruelty-free or not? Why not make every product within the site Vegan and CF and then more detailed preferences can be filtered down like plastic-free packaging perhaps. I will test this on my next prototype and do a card sorting experiment to see what people want on top of vegan and CF.

6. Colourpop No Filter Foundation Review

Ok so here’s the long awaited(or not😂) Colourpop No Filter Makeup review.
I’m just going to start off by saying that this foundation is NOT made for everyone. After a rude encounter on Instagram the other day, I want to emphasize this. Surprisingly from what I’ve seen and heard this foundation DOES work for people you’d think it wouldn’t AND would, but that being said it DOESNT work for people you’d think it would AND wouldn’t. If that makes sense.
So in all honesty I don’t think this foundation should’ve worked for me, but it did. This foundation truly doesn’t boil down to skin types, and it just boils down to you having to try it to know if it’ll work for you. And for $12 that’s not a bad investment for something that could end up as your holy grail.
With that being said, after wearing this foundation about five times, majority in EXTREME humidity, it’s pretty good. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty close. Well for me anyway.
•The Formula: It’s quite liquidity, but pigmented. It’s NOT full coverage, It’s about Medium borderline High Medium, but the formula is buildable to full coverage.
•Application: Here’s where things get tricky. When I first attempted to apply this it was truly looking like a total fail. I used one of my most used SHOP MISS A sponges and it caused texture like crazy. But then I tried it with another sponge, a Morphe one, and it looked good but not great. After going through the process of applying my makeup, once I got to the powdering step is when everything fell into place and I was in love. Specifically AND surprisingly the No Filter pressed powder!(review on next post)
•Longevity/Wear: I wore this foundation for at least 10 hours on each day I was testing it out. It last surprisingly through heat and humidity, but I can’t truly tell you if it’s because of the No Filter powders in mix with the foundation. Which in all honesty should be the case considering they were made to work with each other. Lately my skin has been confused on whether or not it wants to be dry or oily or combo, so I’ve had to use a variety of sprays to balance it out. The first day I had some slight creasing in my smile lines within a few hours. The second day same thing. By the third day I switched up my application process and the order I used the powders, how I applied them etc, and I finally found the combination that has it lasting up to 10hrs. And that was tested for 3 days to confirm that statement. With me having generally oily, and lately combo skin it does tend to get oily, BUT with me and my skin chemistry with the product it just looks like a healthy glow. Because of the way I set it I’ve pretty much made it transfer proof which has been great for the humid and unbearably hot summer days.

•Overall: For me this is pretty great, borderline perfect. But I need people to understand that this foundation may be something you have to work with. You may have to step out of your comfort zone to get it to work. I know I did and results have been exactly what the reviewers are raving about. It’s beautiful on the skin and I truly need no filter as you can see in the photos above. Yes those are completely unfiltered! It’s crazy that a lot of people are finding their match from the Fenty beauty comparison, because this could almost be a dupe for it. I personally found my match with my Mac Cosmetics shade and it’s literally perfect.

I suggest you to know your undertones very well to get your perfect match because in all honesty Colourpop match system and shade descriptions are slightly off and confusing. I’m hoping they fix that soon. But until they do, if you don’t have a Mac or Fenty or Maybeline shade match, I would reccommend using this website called Findation.com and putting in what you feel is your BEST foundation shade matches you own and find the shades of the brands Colourpop is comparing theirs to.
•The Verdict: The foundation is pretty great(FOR ME), but it’s not perfect. Although I may have found the perfect mixture that does make this foundation perfect, especially for us oily girls!😉Let me know if you want to hear about it. It’s all truly thanks to @thriftthick that this discovery was found.
I approve of this foundation💁♀️ and I highly recommend you to try it out, not based off my review alone or anyone else’s, but because you truly won’t know if it’ll work for you unless you try it. This product is truly one that works with the chemistry of YOUR skin. You can’t compare this to anyone else’s skin type because it doesn’t work that way. You might need to step out of your comfort zone, but that’s ok. As you can see above or below, Colourpop agreed with me too. If you’ve been hesitant based on reviews or whatever, just try it. You’ll never know until you do. And it fails the first day, don’t panic just try again a different way with different products underneath. Once you’ve exhausted all that YOU know, then write it off as it just doesn’t work for you, or you can reach out to me and I’d be happy to help. If it turns out it just doesn’t work for you, let Colourpop know WHY with a comment or review. A company can’t know what to improve on unless the consumer tells them. Saying “this product is horrible” does nothing, and unfairly deters other consumers from something that could work perfectly for them. I don’t believe in bashing complexion products like foundation because NO ONES skin type is the same, we’re not built the same so you can’t categorize someone’s skin and a product’s chemistry.

I hope this review was helpful and I’ll be back tomorrow for the review of the No Filter Powders, followed by the concealer review. If you’d prefer the concealer reviewed first or together with the powders let me know.
If you want me to review anything else please let me know. I’ll see you guys tomorrow, Love ya😘❤️💁♀️

hi i have a question. so im not very experienced with make up but i do like to wear it now and then. im also chronically ill and right now it's not possible for me to go to the store soon so im considering buying some stuff online. now i was thinking about buying some concealer or foundation. how do i decide on the shade/color? is that possible without going to the store to check it irl?
It's not impooosssible, but it's definitely a LOT harder to determine your shade without going and actually finding it yourself. If you happen to know your shade in at least one other foundation, you can go to findation.com and it will find all other matches out there for you which will obviously make your hunt infinitely easier. If not though, make sure you know your undertones (pink, yellow, or neutral) which you can find tests for online, and do lots of research into the shades. Sometimes websites will tell you the undertones a foundation has but if not, you can usually tell the undertones based on the name. For example, a foundation with the word rose or shell is usually pink based, beige, peach, or golden is usually yellow, and they usually go with soft or natural for neutral undertones. When it comes to the actual color, you can get away with quite a range of different shades. I've worn foundations that have been both too light and too dark and in the end, once your full face is on, you can't really tell. If it's too dark, just highlight with concealer more heavily than you normally would and if it's too light, you can bronze a little bit more. But if you're stuck between two shades, go for the lighter one. It's easier to mask 😂 Just make sure you blend it down your neck and you'll be golden. And for concealer, I would try to match it to your skin color or lighter so you can highlight with it. If it's too dark, it just won't work!

I don't, I promise! I struggle a lot trying to find the right shade, for some reason is always darker than my tone, also my undertone is another whole issue because is different my face from my body, and if we add that I need full coverage because of my skin condition, and also having sensitive baby skin... dude, the struggle is real!
ugh finding the right foundation shade is a nightmare tbh because you have to take into account a lot of things. i’m lucky in the sense that i don’t live in a country with four seasons so my skin tone remains the same all year round and i can get away with foundations with warm or neutral undertone. but if you’ve found one that fits your skin tone well, you can always go to findation.com and find out your shades for foundations from other brands.

I Bought Beauty Products Based on a Sephora Quiz
I Bought Beauty Products Based on a Sephora Quiz and this is how it turned out...
So every few weeks Sephora will have some quiz on their website (right now it’s skin care products) but a few weeks ago I took one for foundation. The biggest thing I struggle with is finding the right color of foundation for my skin, especially trying to find one online. (from being overly indecisive and I think I just suck at trying to pick my shade.) So I thought this will be great (maybe I…
