After a while of procrastinating, I finally got to drawing my Scoopshipping kid, Jordan Atlas! And a bonus: his "emotional therapy Duel Monster", Aura Resonator! :D

Some tidbits about him. :3

Jordan is a very shy person as a result of a home invasion incident when he was younger that resulted in him getting shot in the throat and left him unable to speak. He communicates via sign language, notepad, or dry erase board.

Thanks to the Duel Monsters Companion System that Nomura Chiba invented, he has his favorite Resonator as his Duel Companion, and it’s to the point where Aura Resonator has yet to be in a duel itself. Jordan gets nervous if he can’t have his little buddy around. (Even if Aura Resonator was used in a duel, all it does is change it’s attribute to whatever Jordan wants for the turn :’D)

Jordan’s main interest besides dueling is making music, mostly stuff like lo-fi chill beats to epic eurobeat and everything in between!

Dueling is very hard for Jordan due to his inability to speak and thus, can’t explain card effects verbally, so he sticks to dueling close friends and family that know his cards’ effects only.

As for Jordan’s deck, it’s a pure Resonator deck with some fancy new Resonator monsters and sometimes even Red Dragon Archfiend if he’s borrowing it from his dad.

Lastly, Jack and Carly are a bit overprotective of him every since the incident, and they WILL go berserk if their son is hurt. Especially Jack, who damn near beat the home invasion perpetrator to death with his bare hands.

like okay listen. one of you has the ability to go back in time by clapping your hands while looking at a photo. presumably you know that abilities are passed on to children. they can activate at any time, perhaps during traumatic moments like with the twins. one of you went to teach at a school for superpowered kids so presumably you know how this works.

and you think you can just abandon a kid with unactivated powers?? leave him with trauma ripe for awakening abilities? what if it wasn't the bridon photo that triggered it huh? what if cheng xiaoshi, at the tender age of 8, cried so hard wondering about his parents and then he accidentally claps himself into a random photo (IN A PHOTO STUDIO! A SHOP ABOUT PHOTOS!! WHERE HE LIVES!!!) with no one to guide him? what if he gets stuck there??? as a kid???

like okay yeah lu guang discovered his ability at 7 years old but apparently someone was there to help him. and also his ability doesn't like, harm him physically. he's not possessing someone or anything. so we're all just lucky cheng xiaoshi never discovered his powers until he was an adult because like. if he discovered that as a kid, lonely as he was?? he'd be so fucked. oh my god. just thinking about it gets me heated like what the fuck cheng weimin. shao yuanyuan. what the fuck. what if your 8 year old kid with abandonment issues got stuck possessing some random person and he doesn't know what's happening. he doesn't know anything. his parents left him and he's not even himself anymore and he's not home and how does he fix this, how does he go back. the horror of it all.

so so grateful that there are no pregnancies on btvs. the writers did a truly terrible job every single time they did a pregnancy storyline on angel, but at least they spared us that on buffy. making btvs one of the very very few high schol shows that doesn't have a teen pregnancy storyline. god bless.

Hey, Jake & Jack fans, is this anything?

Both men imprisoned (literal & metaphorical).

Both offered an out from their current predicament by an outside force (arguably in the case of Brain Ghost Dirk).

Both have loose ties to Lord English visually.

Yellow initial glow & Gamzee involvement too.

Sometimes a guy just needs to explode (same pose too).

Both dual wielding weapons.

That same said weapon type (for Jack Noir) having killed Jane Crocker.

It's really looking like Jake is going to do her in.

I would also like to point out that we've had interactions involving these three (Jane, Jake, and Brain Ghost Dirk) before that consisted of similar topics & themes.

Brain Ghost Dirk implying that he's just there as moral support, a manifestation of Jake's powers, and as a coping mechanism. Jane also talking about ruling an empire with him while talking down to him, similar to how she saw and/or still sees him in Beyond Canon's Candy timeline. Jake also being uncertain about doing anything to harm her despite all the bad things she's doing.

Brain Ghost Dirk going away tells us that Jake's more hopeful than he's ever been. This is the moment where he is the most sure of his decisions than he's ever been in his life, whatever those decisions may be in regards to Jane and how to handle this situation.

He is probably going to shoot Jane down, quite literally. I would also argue that after all this time, the lad isn't beating the Lord English allegations. We might as well have a parallel of him killing Jane much like how Jack Noir killed her right before he got possessed by Lil Cal & given some of Lord English's immense power.

Alternatively maybe we'll get to see what the power of hope or hope bullets can do to someone whose done so much wrong & come so far off the deep end in terms of moral wrongdoings. Maybe with every shot that hits her, she'll begin to be swayed to the side of good & start to self-reflect.

I'm still not fully convinced that Gamzee actually cured Tavros' peanut allergy, I mean just look at the panel.

This could absolutely be interpreted as Jake injecting his hope power into the epipen and by proxy injecting both his power & the epipen into his son! If younger Jake is strong enough to defeat Grimbark Jade, then adult Jake might just be strong enough to defeat a peanut allergy is all I'm saying! In fact, now that I'm rambling about it, this seems like the more likely outcome is Jake's hope power swaying or (in the very least) confusing Jane mid-fight. Hope bullets, they would look cool & would be pretty strong!

The power of believing in others & wanting things to change can be a strong tool indeed, Mister English.

If there's one person who still believes in changing Jane's mind (or bringing her back to proper canonicity depending on how you interpret the recent lore), it would be Jake English, the believer.

I know that high school is traditionally four years but it really feels like they might cap it at Junior Year. The whole season has been really full circle. Long running bits like the vulture, the Night Yorb, and even Fig's vendetta against Porter were paid off. Beloved NPCs like Ragh and Aelwyn are settling into their post-plot lives. The two-part finale of this season involves fighting a teacher and his student allies in the gym and even follows the naming convention of the analogous Freshman Year fight--Prompocalypse vs Ragenarok. I obviously don't know what their plans are but if they wanted to call it, it wouldn't be a narratively bad time to do it.

New Favorite Homestuck Page Dropped????

(page 1073 – ‘[S] Jade: Pester John.’)

First of all: This page is everything to me. It is a spiritual successor to my (previous?) favorite page, ‘WV: Ascend’, in the way it explains and ties together a lot of disparate things such that a bunch of individual events suddenly become one coherent story. Also, the closest we’ve gotten to two of the kids meeting in person!

I love that this flash lets us enjoy how breathtaking Prospit and Skaia are at the beginning, before kicking the plot into gear. Some other aesthetic moments really stand out, too. The transition from Rose’s house (on fire) to Rose’s house (covered in snow), the moment that Jade’s Prospit tower and her Earth tower are superimposed to look like one structure, the golden light filtering through Jade’s dream window turning to blue, and the moment that Jade’s island meteor leaves the bounds of the cloud-vision, becoming a cloud itself as it descends onto Prospit, are all stunning. And every flickering back and forth between waking and dreaming Jades or worlds is a reminder of how interconnected these worlds are, multiple characters crossing this boundary in both directions.

Here, we get an explanation of how Jade’s powers work. As I understand it, when an eclipse happens on Prospit, its moon (and by extension Jade’s tower) passes in front of Skaia. When this happens, she sees visions through portals in Skaia’s clouds that could be from any time in Earth’s (or the universe’s?) past or future. It’s possible for these visions to physically impact Prospit, which is why it’s dangerous for Jade to be outside during the eclipse. Jade can see visions while awake through Bec (p.980), as Bec is originally from Skaia.

Jade is doing the equivalent of lucid dreaming, able to consciously impact the world on Prospit, but only able to impact Earth via her dreambot. John sees some visions, but only as shapes made out of Skaia’s clouds, not through the cloud portals. Jade can also see the shapes made out of clouds, but these are secondary. John’s seeing the clouds could be because simply because his dreaming self lives on Prospit, or specifically because he’s outdoors/sleepwalking on Prospit, or because he’s sleeping within the Incipisphere – it’s uncertain.

John’s visions, importantly, ARE still accurate predictions. This flash incorporates ‘[S] John: Wake up.’ (p.651), in which John sees his dad, a cake, Gushers, a harlequin, the green slime ghost, and Harry Anderson. Almost all of these tie into the mental breakdowns John later has in his dad’s room (p.948, 979) and subsequent experiments with alchemy. So if John can wake up, and now that he’s had this realization about the harlequin graffiti in the waking world he seems like he’s ready to see it in dreams too, he’ll have access to the same powers as Jade. Given that John is often presented as the most clueless character, that would be a really interesting shift.

Speaking of John waking up! The John-Jade pesterlogs from page 169 and 293 are appended to this page, with links for convenience (the first time a pesterlog has appeared beneath a major [S] page). We now know that these happen while Jade is asleep. The only other April 13, 2009 pesterlog between these two is on page 652, immediately after this page, and that conversation makes PERFECT sense now. Jade knows about Nannasprite because one of her cloud-portals showed John’s current adventure, Jade was ‘confused’ about the meteor near her house because it 'landed' on Prospit (and far-past Earth), not current Earth, and John needs to ‘wake up’ so that he can see Jade’s visions too, and they can discuss them with equal knowledge. Jade’s a little frustrated in that conversation, because she knows John was so close to waking up, but now she’s not sure when it’ll actually happen.

The meteor impact as seen on Prospit in this flash is I think identical to the meteor impact on Earth years in the past (p.757) – but we know it’s Prospit, because Jade’s golden tower is there in this version. It appears that Bec was within the Skaian meteor that impacted Prospit, and rose unharmed from the lava pool in the most badass possible way. It’s uncertain whether there are two Becs – one on Prospit and one on Earth – or if he just teleports between them at will. I wondered for a moment if Bec being pure white was a link to the white of Prospit citizens, but that would have implications for all the kids and guardians that I don’t think are true, so I think that’s coincidence.

The simple white spirograph Bec is guarding (on Prospit) is the same that appears at the end of ‘WV: Ascend’, another link between these flashes. It looks like a video game powerup – something hovering in the air that Jade could jump and pass through, and she’d get a success sound and glow for a moment. Bec is stopping Jade from taking this (on Prospit), and from entering the frog statue (on Earth), and I don’t know what his intentions are – trying to protect Jade from danger, trying to keep Jade from something that might help her, or just following orders as an agent of Skaia without thinking? Jade has already had one Strife with Bec to retrieve something he’s guarding – will she get a second, perhaps more dangerous one? What exactly is the white spirograph, and what is hidden inside the frog temple? Is what’s inside the frog temple still there 413 years in the future, now guarded by the Aimless Renegade instead of Bec?

Bec guarding the frog statue from robo-Jade is – I think – one of only two new glimpses of Earth in this flash. The other is Dave’s house, fading from its current fiery sky to a dreary gray day, mirroring Rose’s house fading from ‘on fire’ to its snowy flashback from page 441. I hope this means we’ll see a flashback to Dave’s birthday soon too. Also worth mentioning again is Dave’s ‘sometimes i dream that [Lil Cal is] real and hes talking to me and i wake up in a cold sweat and basically flip the fuck out’ (p.419). John has a malevolent imp entity in his room that clearly affects him while asleep and awake (p.1049) so if there’s a dreaming Dave somewhere in the incipisphere, is it possible he has a Cal equivalent? In fact, could a dreaming Rose have a wizard equivalent? Is Jade able to wake up within her dreams and see visions because she’s the only one who doesn’t have an unpleasant entity haunting her room? Is this because of Bec’s protection?

Also, if we are getting a Dave flashback, that means that Jade’s visions can be in the future or past of her linear time, AND in the future or past of the narrative, which is fun for an already fourth wall breaking character. It got me thinking about the two glimpses of Jade we got in Act 2, and about how one was a narrative psycheout given to us by the author (p.665), and the other was an in-universe psycheout for John himself, almost seeing Jade for the first time in person but waking up before it can happen. I am imagining Jade climbing in and out of the narrative like it is her own personal set of monkey bars and that’s a fun image to me.

I was doing some wild theorizing about waking vs dreaming Jade during my fourth or fifth watch on this, and I even considered that John is the only friend Jade’s able to communicate with while dreaming, seeing the others as people within her visions but not realizing they’re her friends. But I think Dave’s monologue to Jade disproves this, his ‘do you even know if you are [asleep]’ suggesting he’s talked to dream Jade before. So theory discarded, but I really want to figure out the difference between Jade’s waking voice and dreaming voice, such that it’s possible to place any Jade pesterlog as waking or dreaming. Here’s what we know about all ten of her existing pesterlogs.

Page 110 (John) – Confirmed to be waking Jade (p.827).

Page 169 (John) – Confirmed to be dreaming Jade (p.1073).

Page 293 (John) – Confirmed to be dreaming Jade (p.1073).

Page 382 (Dave) – Confirmed to be waking Jade (p. 835).

Page 442 (Rose) – Unknown. I believe this is waking Jade, as she has just mailed a package which is known to be on Earth. Jade seems to speak more concretely while waking and more vaguely while dreaming; I believe she is giving information from a recent dream.

Page 652 (John) – Strongly implied to be waking Jade due to their simultaneous awakening (p.1073).

Page 829 (Dave) – Jade is out of her room and exploring, no clues towards waking/dreaming state.

Page 838 (Rose) – Seen from waking Jade’s perspective.

Page 859 (CG) – Seen from waking Jade’s perspective.

Page 1000 (John) – Unknown. I believe this is waking Jade, as she says she’s ‘never had any sort of feeling’ about the trolls, suggesting that she’s not aware of them in her dreams.

Spider-Man Jaw•Va Project | The Mentors

Lately, I've been reading a bunch of the Venom comics and just hanging my head. I don't have any solid rewrites or anything like that, but I can play around with the characters. Unorganized rambles below the read more. My thoughts are a jumbled mess which cannot be tamed when I have just so many of them.

Peter isn't actually important to this at all, but it feels wrong not to include the main guy himself. So, first off, @yotakuboi, your Spider-Man redesigns are everything to me. Thank you 🙏🏾 I always thought it was weird/wrong to have the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man become a tech billionaire CEO. It feels so against everything the character stands for. Could he do it? Oh, absolutely. But WOULD HE? Everyone and their mom has thrown around the idea of high school teacher Peter Parker, and I am no different. I think Peter works best as a "little guy," and a teacher gives him a place to inspire people outside of hero work. Plus, it gives him the opportunity to be a mentor to Miles but more on that later. I'm picturing everyone's favorite Science teacher who is also in charge of robotics club and the annual science fair. More organized, sorta, but still runs around like a madman to make the whole superhero thing work. But you can like tell he's practiced. Probably still struggles to pay the bills on time. Lives mainly on cheap take-out. I love the way his black suit design in Venom War makes it look likes he's got white fingers.

Eddie Brock is still an anti-hero in this. He probably still accidentally kills bad guys if they piss him or his other off, but he's trying really, really hard to keep them alive, honest. I always thought King in Black was a step too far for Eddie, but then again, I've never been a big fan of established characters becoming gods. I think he'd switch between working with Liz Allan/Alchemax (or against them, depending on the week), helping out the Agents of the Cosmos, and making sure his son is going to school and generally staying out of trouble. We believe in Good Dad Eddie superiority. He still worries about Venom's anger. They're more honest with each other, but he can tell his partner doesn't tell him everything. It sort of fuels his inferiority complex, esp regarding Flash [(nothing too serious; he's working on it) I never was a fan of writers acting like Flash was a waaaaaay better host than Eddie and giving him grief about it; however, just a sprinkle can be an interesting character conflict]. I want to make his design wider. Big fan of wide work-out buff Eddie.

Venom can form independent of Eddie (as established in Space Knight) but has to return to him, or any host, every so often to live. He probably still doubts his place in the Brock family every now and then thanks to lingering insecurities left behind by Tel-Kar, Spider-Man, and the Klyntar. He's learning to talk it out, though usually with Flash, Pik, or the other Agents since he doesn't want to give Eddie any more reason to doubt him. Loves going on space adventures with the gang but hates leaving his children behind. Dotes on Pik's daughter Hilla. Feels more parental towards Dylan and Sleeper than his past spawn. Probably embarrasses them a lot too. Trying to repair his relationship with Toxin. Can speak in whole sentences but likes cutting them short for fun/ease. I like how the spider insignia changes over time/hosts. Tried to quickly jot down my thoughts on it.

Flash Thompson is still dead and resurrected. Like Eddie, Flash bounces from thing to thing but does not work with Alchemax. He keeps an eye out for Carnage activity on earth. He made lasting friendships with the Agents of the Cosmos and does work with them every now and then. He always has Andi in tow; she's become a surrogate daughter to him and he vows to never abandon her like he did the first time he ran off to space with the Guardians. Besties with Pik Rollo. Trying to get 803 some new hobbies. Somewhat struggling not to flounder when there's no hero work for him to do. Still thinks he has to make up for his bully years even though he's well-regarded by just about everyone he's ever met in the time since. Not the best with relationships despite exuding charm/allure (he does not acknowledge this). Loves TV/movies and making references to them. Great mentor. Still besties with Venom and will watch Sleeper and Dylan for him if not busy. Something of a weird mentor/dad to Bren [(shared with Eddie) Toxin feels more comfortable with Flash] since Ozkar's not the best role model. Could cover Flash's prosthetics, but I love when artists just leave them out in the open. Love that 803 canonically made him legs in Space Knight.

... so do most people take "Columbia" to be Columbia University, and not Colombia the country? I always thought Toby meant he was spending time in the Physical location of the country. That's (one of the reasons) why Andy wasn't with him and why Jed didn't ask about the kids, but about where he was. Cause he was away from them in another country.

I've definitely seen that assumption reddit before! It never crossed my mind that it might've been Colombia the country, cause on the subtitles I had on the episode (I can't go back and check HBO now cause they removed it from a lot of non US countries) it just said "Columbia", which given that he's from New York made sense to me?

It's never specified what he's doing there; it could, technically just as easily be a month long project and then he's back in DC. But I like the idea that he was there as professor more longterm! Toby seems like someone who would make a great college professor (and one of those teachers some people are terrified of but everyone appreciates having for any given course), and I love that career for him after politics obviously stopped being a feasible option.

I took the "not a bad place to spend some time" as a little nod to the confession and trial that was to come, but again that could easily be an indication that it's not a longterm position at all!

But it is such a shame that the twins aren't mentioned at all in the epilogue; which makes sense given the way Jed and Toby parted, there's still a lot of tension, but I would've loved to know how that family is doing at that point.

category 6 Hero event. afflicted with images and visions but its literally just what happens in-game but more concentrated so i cant do anything ABOUT IT...

fuck dude what do you even do!!! its rolling grass and warm breezes and a hand grasping onto the sleeve of someone you love. that kind of comfort you can only get as a kid tucked into bed; lights on in another room; familiar voices through the cracked door. cupping fireflies in your hands; excited to run; but more excited to bring them to someone; to show them too.

and in context; in contrast; it turns into the childish plea of an 'i wish;' 'i remember;' 'i wish.' this too; starting with the warm reminiscience of their days of running. you dont have to look. we know. we dont have to look yet. such a simple melody; a stumbling little dance on stage; a child's recital.

and through its outro; finally meeting each other in the eyes.. the slow, staggered cobbling of the vocals, the percussion, as if to painstakingly stand upright once more; pushed on and on with more certainty; more momentum; the force of a wheel that cannot stop. as more and more voices raise, a supporting choir, pushing it forward-- until all that remains is the simple reality of it. one simple voice, the petering out of the instrumental into quiet, a single dragged out note; an ember rising and burning out.

the entire thing still holding itself to the same structure a play would; containing itself in the image of the stories they so loved. much the same, ending their conflict through the same means.
