There’s something about the old internet that lingers like the aftertaste of a childhood candy—syrupy, artificial, but undeniably nostalgic. I miss pixelated forums with neon text. I miss the era when fanart had jagged Photoshop brushstrokes and DeviantArt watermarks. I miss clunky Flash animations with smooth tweened movements and offbeat humor that only made sense in the depths of 2010s Tumblr.

Animating ponies was peak internet culture. Brony AMVs set to Nightcore remixes. Edgy OCs with tragic backstories. The painstaking effort of keyframing a gallop cycle in Adobe Flash, only for the program to crash because you forgot to save. It was cursed. It was magical. It was ours.

Maybe the web isn’t the same anymore, but the ghosts of that era still linger. In broken archive links. In old DA journals. In lost Flipnote Hatena animations. And in me, every time I doodle something in the margins and think, this would’ve gone viral in 2013.
