I'm trying to make a lullaby by "copypasting" short melodies I've written before together on flat.io. Idk if it feels cohesive at all, and I think the ends happens too soon and without much pointing to it. BUT, I think it sounds good.

I will say. I think its really cool how i have developed my own sort of "style" since i started making music. I only really realized it recently. When i am making music just to make music, and im not deliberately trying to experiment with stuff, somehow there is a way that i do it that it sounds like something that *I made*. I have my own process to it that comes naturally to me. I wish i could show today's music to me from 6 years ago.

I keep bouncing between hyperfixations, especially older ones being resurfaced, and was genuinely surprised I was able to stay hyperfixated and still am slightly.
I’ve turned the doodle on the top right into a larger, more rendered art piece. It’s technically done but I’m still considering adding the Gaster blaster (I suck at designing those) and maybe a background.
Really depends because I decided I didn’t want to show the art until I’ve made my own version of UF Bonetrousle on Flat.io.
Because I’m insane.
Anyway, needed to get stuff out there, might info dump about my own interpretation of Underfell Papyrus.
These are kinda ass but I promise the rendered little poster thing is gonna be better.

no idea if anyone would be interested in this, but i wrote out the music for eustace/sebastian's winning independence theme (first class farewell for fan translation) on flat.io as a trumpet/trombone duet!!
i made it so i could play the song with my trombone player uncle (who is insanely talented, btw), but if anyone wants a link to it for themselves id be happy to share it!
finding decent sheet music for that song is very difficult and i had to use two different arrangements to transpose it, plus a bit of going by ear, so i thought if i could save someone else the trouble i would
its incredibly niche so im not actually expecting anyone to want it, but juuuuust in case :]

I have never dealt with browser-based music things, however i do try to generally keep track of software things.
I did a bit of looking around because i don't know much about notation programs (ive been using guitar pro for over a decade) and i found a list of them on r/composer. Wikipedia also has a list, and does mention if they're free.
On the free DAW front though, Bedroom Producers Blog has a list of 17 of them with a small variety of workflows. Personally I've been trying to learn how to work MPC Beats.
In a similar vein is playpm's GAS Therapy video series where he finds alternatives to hardware with software or apps that are either free or very cheap.
and like once or twice a year humble bundle usually has a music production bundle that can cost like $25 for a daw and some software.
I wish that more people would get into composing music, because it's fun and therapeutic and neat, but like. It's really fucking expensive if you're looking into typical, professional equipment, so I understand why they don't.
Personally, I just don't think you need to start out on a DAW. It feels unnecessary, and it feels like it's an easy way to gatekeep art from the poor. "Professional" Music software ropes people into spending, like, $500+ on the software alone, and then expects them to be able to play an instrument, which involves owning an instrument which varies wildly in price depending on what the instrument is and if it's well-made.
(there's also the occasional software that's aimed at people who are able to record themselves playing that instrument and like...the logistics of that costs a lot, but it's not strictly required or anything. there's also an argument to be had here about the culture surrounding machine-produced sounds as opposed to human-performed sounds, and I'm just not gonna get into it right now)
That's why I don't fucking use a DAW. I'm poor!
I got started on Flat.io, which is not a DAW, but it is free! It's kind of like Noteflight or Musescore if you're at all familiar with either of those things, but the general consensus is that Musescore is better than Flat is better than Noteflight. I've never used Musescore. But I know that Flat is better than Noteflight. It's just a website that has really good instrument variety. It's primarily limited by the fact that you can only use western musical notation. You're also limited to 15 scores without their subscription service (which I got a lifetime membership on for like 150 dollars? but i think they've increased the price since then? dont know, cant see it anymore) but honestly it's not so bad because they don't enforce the ban on multiple accounts as hard as they say they do.
So I guess what I'm saying is like...even if you don't know what you're doing and you're really nervous and you don't want to share anything and you think it costs way too much money (because it does), like...give it a shot. Go digging for artistic software, regardless of the medium, and eventually you will find what you want. And even though the free services can get penny-pinching at times, there's usually at least one out there that can show you whether or not you really want to get into it before you hit the paywall.
And also what I'm saying is go look at Flat.io. Because it's cool. And I've used it for years. And I really like it. And you should go look at it.

A couple of days ago @beetleandfox tagged me in this so why not
Last song: Feed the Family by Possessed by Paul James is the last one I listened to on Spotify, but in general it would be the end bit of JS Bach’s mass in B minor, because I just returned from a concert.
Favourite colour: Red.
Last book: My reading skills are down so the only thing I’ve managed to finish recently is a lil pamphlet of three essays by Orwell, published under the heading ā€˜Fascism and Democracy’. I’m really fun to be around I swear
Last movie: Kona fer i striư/Woman at War. It’s really good, Icelandic, with a trio of Ukrainian folk singers as part of the semi-diegetic musicians who play the non-diegetic music.
Last tv show: I’m on an Adventure Time rewatch 🤷
Sweet/savoury/spicy: Spicy. But spice isn’t all that fun if it’s not also good and savoury.
Relationship status: Suddenly this is the census, hm? I’m a household of one, officer; it’s just little old me here.
Last thing I searched: 1860s fashion.
Current obsession: I’m having a Terror moment, but that’s more of a long term obsession than a current one- if it’s something very current you’re after it’s flat.io, specifically using it to compose a SATB arrangement of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Latin, as a sort of secular mass.
Looking forward to: Getting a coffee with a friend tomorrow. The chain coffee shop has a very tasty caramel hot chocolate, and I get to show her my newest deck of tarot cards which has been lying around unused since I bought it in October.
Fav drink: Irn Bru.
Song playing 24/7: Well my top song on wrapped for last year was Mis On Inimene? which is still accurate. Go listen go listen and tell me if you do because I’m shouting into the void about this ethereal tearjerker
Fun activity you would like to get into: All of them. I’ve been thinking about taxidermy a lot.
Current fav character: Thomas Evans, the scared little ship’s boy from the Terror. He’s just a wee babe and he’s got a speech impediment and he was not made to last bless him šŸ’”
Last video game: Sunless Sea. I’ve been playing it periodically since it came out but I always just end up fucking around and never actually finishing the business of finding my father’s bones šŸ™„
Last comic/graphic novel: Fuck, uh. The Katzenjammer Kids? It’s a sort of not really funny at all old comic that’s a traditional Christmas presence in my childhood home and should only be read as a ā€œlook at what people used to think was okay, kinda fucked up or what?ā€ kind of experience.
I will tag, without any pressure, @dollfacedbunny and @saintdundy and @bongbong and maybe @roaldamundsen whose current obsession I could not possibly guess

what program do you use to create music for your games?
I mainly use Musescore 4 for music composition. I also sometimes use flat.io for quickly testing out ideas.

I’m Blob, any pronouns work. I’m aroace, and I make music sometimes! Here’s a playlist of most of my recent works:
Tags I use:
blob post: OP
reblobs: additions to others’ posts
mini reblobs: additions to others’ posts in the tags. Sometimes I don’t feel like adding this tag, it’s very inconsistent
inquiries: asks
blob census: polls
fav: favorite posts
important: things that are lastingly good information or advice. Fundraisers and much news won’t be tagged with this, it doesn’t mean they’re not important
blobism: posts about philosophy, politics, etc.
watch list/reading list/music for later: self explanatory. I’m mostly putting this here so I remember what to search for

Hey! So-
I saw your tags on my Warlock Theme post and, honestly I think I COULD give a description of the process?? I'll try to for ya but do forgive me if it isn't good
So I use a score program called flat.io. I got in my final year of highschool and we used it for composition and placement of notes and shit, exploring modes, tabs, whatnot.
I still manage to use to it muck around and make themes for like- a BUNCH of my stuff, just for fun! Because it is is VERY fun to do. (allow a shameless plug lol)
This is one of the pieces I've made this year.
For the Warlocks theme specifically, though, I knew what I wanted from it was to be like the Witch's theme, but not really. Witch's theme, especially in L4D2, is very eerie. It's full of such eerily haunting notes and songs, and it's very beautiful compared to the other infected's themes. I think of Boomer's theme for example, it plays into the idea of dizziness and confusion that the puke from the boomer can cause, but its very heavy hitting. Same goes for Smoker's Asphyxiation theme, or Spitters Enzymicide theme.
I wanted Warlock's theme to match the haunting feeling of the Witch's but to feel disgusting, to feel monstrous, to feel like the warlock was this horrid, grotesque creature and it amde eveery other infected look like a saint.
It needed to sound low, gross, and eerie. That's the feeling you have when you're being chased by this motherfucker:
Tumblr media
It is repulsive, it is disgusting, and it needed to feel like that.
Also, it gave me a chance to look at the other infected and can I say we were ROBBED OF THE FUCKING FARMER CHESTBURSTER MOTHERFUCKER WHO SPAWNS RATS???? COULD'VE CALLED HIM THE PLAGUE OR SOMETHING
Ahem- anyways
I just wanted it to be gross, to be disgusting. cause that is what this thing says it feels like to me: Disgusting
Hope this was a good enough explanation lmao
