okay, im doing it for real this time

but im finally going to rewatch all the FLCL sequels and save the OG FLCL last

ive already started on Progressive and am on the 5th episode. it's......a struggle this one....

ill try writing my thoughts on each season when im done with them, emphasis on the word try lol

I think some other time i try this rewatch, ill do it in chronological order

Being an FLCL fan can be very bad in terms of getting new fan stuff/fanfics or being someone who might make such. Worse for those is being an FLCL sequel fan.

kind of a retelling of the OG but not really???

basically pointless

half-length is a blessing, this one could not have lasted 6 eps.

it's not that there are no ideas here, but the execution is not there

cheap 3D animation basically kills any redeeming factor it may have. Looks bad, chief.

Shoegaze (direct sequel to Alternative)

oh they're doing something with this one

goes for the previous sequels as well, but there is too much focus on The Lore. as a certified sci-fi lore enjoyer I kinda dig trying to piece it all together, but any kind of FLCL successor should be more about the themes than having a story that makes sense. Luckily this one's got that too!

all in all this is the most unique one, so I feel it's the most deserving of the FLCL title

I finally got to watching FLCL Progressive and Alternative and I just want to say that Alternative has basically solidified my headcanon from my many viewing of FLCL Classic that Haruko is less of an actual person and more of an anarchistic Mary Poppins Cat in the Hat fae type creature that comes into a random child's life during puberty to help them through it with her schemes to capture Atomsk, stop Medical Mechnica's evil plots, or both. Only when they work through their problems and either stop her from obtaining Atomsk's power, help her defeat MM, or both, do they pass her test and can move on towards healthy adulthood then she leaves for a new town with a new scheme and a new kid who needs her. (Progressive having Haruko go after Atomsk by herself before the events of said season kind of throws a wrench in there though.)

I remember mostly everything in Progessive and Alternative but forgot a lot of stuff so it’s kinda watching with fresh eyes so I’m cool with it.

There's always something new to be found or rediscovered again in rewatches.

Certain things are hard to forget though.
