WELCOME TO LUNAR COVE, NOELIA DELANEY-LOPEZ
TRIGGERS: Sexual Assault, Homophobia
Until age 6, Noelia was raised by her biological mother, Catalina Rojas-Keller. Noelia grew up alongside her twin brother Leonardo, although the two of them could not be more different. After years of thinking about it, Catalina started the process to give the kids up for adoption. She aimed for an open adoption, and in just a year Leonardo was placed with his new family. Sadly, Leonardo’s parents were only looking to adopt one child, so Noelia stayed with Catalina until a perfect family showed up for her. (start of homophobia tw) Samuel Delaney and Hassan Yassin were interested in adopting Noelia, but given the stigma and discrimination gay couples faced when adopting, it took Delaney and Yassin two years to be able to adopt Noelia even though they had Catalina’s whole support after their interview. (end of homophobia tw)
Growing up Noelia had a variety of hobbies from roleplaying games like Dungeon and Dragons to tennis to dance. She was a well rounded kid who did decent enough at school. Due to their personality they joined various after school activities, and although they didn’t keep up with many of them, they explored each interest with a passion. Tennis helped Noelia bond with her dad Hassan, and with time, dance became their brightest interest. Their parents saw this and fully embraced them, helping them join plays or learn various dance styles growing up. Noelia had a thirst for knowledge pertaining to dances from the past, and that led her to the sub culture she is still very much a part of today, goth. The music, the community, the dance, the theatricality of it all enamored Noelia, and at age 14, she was fully a goth. Learning how to sew came naturally since she wanted to do her own clothes, and often repurposed her dad’s clothing without their permission.
There are things that as a child Noelia was never quite able to understand. Being separated from her brother and rehomed made Noelia confused, bitter, and angry. These emotions and the outbursts that came with them did not halt their relationship with their dads. In contrast, they were more patient and more invested in Noelia than ever before. And as the years went by, that anger, that sensation that they had been abandoned started to leave them. When they were sixteen they were able to develop a proper relationship with their mother, in terms, learning more about their ethnic and cultural heritage. And what her mother could not help her with, Samuel helped with. Overall, Noelia was very loved in her home and with her ever growing family, and it took up more energy to reject it than to accept it.
With a new family came various discoveries. The most crucial one was the discovery of magic and witches and the supernatural. Noelia had nothing magical about her, and although at first she became jealous of her family, she later realized that the burden of powers was too daunting for her. Jasmine helped her realize that. When Jasmine came into her life, Noel was a bit brighter than before. For all the quiet Jasmine was, Noel was twice as talkative, and would often talk Jasmine’s ear off about whatever her current interest was. Maybe it was because she was like Jasmine when their dads adopted them. She too had been riddled with trust issues and was often quiet, but their dads and siblings had helped, so Noel thought, maybe she could help Jasmine too even if it was talking about the various types of moths or the latest Final Fantasy game. Also, Noel was excited to have another sibling in the family.
Seeing the ambition their siblings had, Noel felt a bit out of place when it was time for college. Sure, they were interested in dance, but they were also interested in ten different things that they could major on. So, Noel started as an art therapy major then changed to linguistics then changed to dance. Dance was always their passion, but they didn't know what job they could get from it. Still, once they started focusing on it, there was no going back. When graduation came, Noelia started as a dance instructor for children and then tried out some fitness classes then tried out a bit of choreographing, but nothing fit. That was until they started learning more about exotic dances and pole dancing. She was hooked, so she started pole dancing and has yet to stop. Although she knows that with age, pole dancing may not be the best alternative, she also knows that with her double major, she'll be able to make due. For now, though, she dances to her hearts content and has even developed her own pole fitness class as a side gig.
(start of sexual assault tw) Almost two years ago, Noel was bitten by a werewolf who found her unconscious and wounded after she had being assaulted by various people and left behind. It is a wonder and shock that they were able to survive the change in that condition, but if there is anything Noel is, is determined. After the change, they tried to go back to their regular life, but it was difficult. Being a lone wolf made each full moon so unbearable, so painful, so lonely. Still, they didn't reach out to their family about it, worried that talking to them about it would mean reliving that night mentally. (end of sexual assault tw) However, once she told her family, they shared more knowledge about werewolves. It didn’t make the shift any easier, but at least they knew what to be weary of. Suddenly she had to worry about silver? Did that mean some of their jewelry was unusable?
They arrived at Lunar Cove three months ago just missing the Renaissance Faire, which is something she is fully bitter about. She doesn’t ignore the atrocities that occurred during the event, those she saw in the newspapers, but she’s always focused on the more fun aspect of things. Afterall, Noel knows she alone would not have been able to change the course of things. She just thinks that she had the perfect elf ear prosthetics for the event! What a missed opportunity. She arrived a few months ago and has just been trying to settle in. Although she knew about the existence of supernatural beings, she's still recently one herself, so she's trying to get acquainted with everything while figuring out why so many bad things keep happening. Her unspoken goal is to keep Jasmine safe and to be moral support for her sister. She's gone through enough, so Noel is determined to be the silly sister if it keeps her siblings’ sanity intact.

Sorry I never gave a proper update on tumblr——
here’s some brainstorming doodles from Keo and me on the white board and some examples Keo made in my notebook. I won’t forget it, one of my harshest note was “NEVER draw Kenny in 3/4!! Trey hates that!” 🤣 The story leads stressed that Trey is very particular with acting decisions and poses, most of which don’t translate into the animation. It’s for him at the editing stage, to “make his voice sing”. Getting into Trey’s head, funnily enough, requires FEELING. Feeling what he’s going for in terms of delivery, to learn what not to take literally in his script (when trey says “kathleen kennedy is like terminator” it’s not what you initially think it means), what emotion or gesture to put in to elevate a joke, to get the message through. It’s so fascinating!
In short, I didn’t make the cut. I was “too fresh”, and needed more experience with the technical aspect of storyboarding…. but I was complimented by Keo for my intuition, something that can’t be taught. I was over the moon when I was told I got the style of the show, whereas other trainees with 10+ experience couldn’t. Some of them tested but don’t even watch the show!! That’s crazy, but I guess that’s to be expected. My knowledge of the show and deep love for the characters got me this far, but I need to work on my actual story boarding skills (keo said my struggles are in composition and scaling) to stay!! 💪🏼 I’m taking this… as a not yet, not a no. I’m already on their radar, in their database, I’m incredibly lucky I got to make my THIRD connection in the studio, I just need to work on myself until I can arrive. I’m so grateful for all the support from friends family and industry moots to get me this far, it’s only the beginning of the year but I don’t think anything could top what happened to me this March!!!!!
