thought it would be a quick fun project to try making ts4 cc so i converted my favorite idolmaster fit and it works perfectly except for a few weights to minorly fix and also for SOME REASON a slice of leg is hovering on top of the normal legs. no that is not part of the mesh. it is not visible in blender, just in game and in sims 4 studio. it just popped up there at some point. ???

Not only would he be utterly supportive (he loves seeing you happy because of your hobbies ofc), but he'd practically throw money at you so you can whale on the game.

You mentioned you don't have enough diamonds for that new myth pair you desperately want? Well Sylus either fills up your virtual wallet in your app store ahead of time, or he just straight up hands you his credit card while you're too busy staring at the new banner with longing in your eyes.

If you don't use his money, he logs into your game when you're not looking and does all the pulls for you until he's secured the memories you've been talking about.

Sylus also finds great joy in hearing you talk about the lore or the characters or how much you adore your favorite LI(s). He loves the way your face lights up when you mention the latest happenings in the game.

He also has his own personal fave LI for you, regardless of who your favorites might be. So he can't help but get a bit excited whenever you mention that specific LI or his lore/story as it evolves. Zayne is his favorite, btw.

You can definitely count on him to be your daily reminder to log into the game to do your dailies and check in on the lads. Will sometimes phrase it in his usual teasing way, like, "Sweetie, did you check in with your favorite doctor yet? Don't keep him waiting."

Sylus also LOVES the battle aspect of the game. He learns all the ins and outs of it so he can give you any tips or advice when you're stuck on a particular level of the deepspace trials or SHC. While you play, he sometimes watches youtube playthroughs or tutorials so he can stay up to date on any new companions, weapons, or battle strategies.

He's following all of the game's official socials so he can be prepared for any big events coming up that you might be interested in. He wants to be your backup just in case you miss anything yourself (and this helps him prepare for any moments you might purposely fail to tell him about an event you want to spend money on).

Luke and Kieran also like to watch you play the game sometimes, but their most favorite part is helping you pick the right outfits, poses, and lighting for the glint photobooth. Followed by the claw machine and kitty cards minigames as close second-favorite.

Today's Demon's Souls playing

I played a bit more Demon's Souls today! At this point I am unable to play it without @val-of-the-north watching me stream it fdhfhsd Having someone see me play is like an addiction

1) Got back to the mines place where I killed the Firelurker last time because according to Val there was another boss! Didn't expect it to appear literally in the next room tho XD It was Dragon God! There was also a sword that apparently was supposed to be used for this battle but I didn't have Str requirement to use it (Fromsoft moment💀) so I was barely reducing its health with the spear at the final stage of its battle fsdhfdhsdf

2) Val also earlier explained to me what demons in this setting exactly are and how they come to exist, it is so cool! Apparently, Dragon God appeared because of the legends local people created around giant bones found in there?? This is so cool! I love how there are both concrete rules while also a huge freedom to what demons can be!

3) As soon as I saw the message that I've killed an Archdemon though, my instant monkey brain response was to go back to Boletaria Palace and cross the fog gate after Iron Knight XD LMAAAO at that one Fat Official doing the reverential bow thing fjhhsdhs

Discovered that you can climb over certain places and jump down, as well as climb up too? This is strange

4) I died several times at this area tho -_- I insisted on clearing the level, though Val kept telling me over and over to drop it for later. Got cornerguy'd, got burnt by stepping on a dumb burning rock (no offence, it was ALSO burning my enemies when used right lol), fell into water, and also THE FUCKING STUPID. FUCKING GODDAMN STUPID ARCHER GUY. WOULD NOT FUCKING EVER STOP SHOOTING AT ME, THROUGH. THE FUCKING. WALL. Eventually Val told me that I can't clear this area because I literally fight Allant in the 1-4 (idk what this Mario ass levels terminology is sdfjdsfjh) so I scolded him for "not having told me sooner" and left lol.

5) Went into Latria instead! And this was going to be it for the rest of the evening.

6) Why are you me, I am me???

No, seriously, I started as Magician (always use magic because skill issue lol) and haven't changed my catalyst or clothing since the beginning! It jumpscared me to find my own people set here xD

Val explained to me that this is the prison for magicians because Soul Arts was what brought the First Scourge or whatever, but that by now the purpose was changed. Though we speculated how it could work to have different tutorial areas depending on the starter class, and how funny it would be if starting as Magician would make your tutorial area this prison instead xd (Not my actual suggestion ofc, it would be too much of a typical videogame, and From isn't like that!)

7) Something DID make me sad tho:

So at some points I started freeing these guys, and they were following me, which was fun...... until it wasn't.

Like, I actually felt bad about non-hostile ones ;-; How hard it was to just make them like, run towards the exit upon being freed and despawn?? I literally had to kill them to be able to move normally, especially when they started to pile up, nothing personal 💀💀💀 Honestly, Miyazaki knew exactly what he was doing. He wanted us to feel bad about killing the guys who did nothing wrong and just were confused and happy to be freed. Bruh this guy was always the same. 💀💀💀

8) Met this woman:

A funny #videogamemoment btw: you see her sleeves? They look pretty narrow and closed, right? WRONG:

When I caught her singing, turned out that her sleeves were fucking LONG as fuck XD The clipping of the texture is so bad that when she puts her hands together, the long sleeves clip through the skirt and become invisible hfhfhdsd Why this is so funny

9) Remember how I said that I felt uncomfortable if not guilty for killing the prisoner guys? By this point I ended up instead going out of my way TO kill them even if they were literally just standing there in their cells and doing nothing sdjfhdhsd Val was so confused as to why I'd keep doing it compulsively even if they don't drop more than literally 3 Souls hdfsdhd Guess I came around lmao XD

10) So, I've picked this set.....

...and Val revealed to me that it IS the John Demonsouls' set, but it looks different for female character. :> ...really. Fucking REALLY. Are you SHITTING me. DUDE. You DO NOT fucking make the SET OF JOHN SOULSBORNE LOOK DIFFERENT BASED ON GENDER.

Can you guys NOT touch the universality of John pls т.т It is sacred, it is not a Pokemon game where the girl and the boy protag are different fsdhhfdsh Well at least they haven't done that in any other game since...

11) Met one of the bootleg Brainsuckers guys in the narrow corridor where I could not just spam magic at him and panicked, saying that there was no way I could kill him because his magic went THROUGH shield, nor there was anywhere to hide :s While still being mad at how it was "impossible", I just somehow automatically adapted to rolling and hitting with melee weapon fast enough. k

12) Got to see the stained glass that is not in the cutscene that I've already seen though videos:

Certain lighting from what I've seen so far made me question if this hair was dark blond or whatever, but nope! This is a very brown hair if I've seen one! That makes me think of something from earlier (for another post)

15) I got to fight Fool's Idol, it was a super easy first try! I could fucking figure by myself that magic would not work, and instead decided to opt out for the bow! I was just sniping her while hiding behind the columns all the time, so it was easy to not get damage and quickly figure out which one was the real! Val was mad at me because he didn't expect the bow strategy to work so well XD

WHY THESE GUYS TAKE ME IN ANOR LONDO AFTER THIS BATTLE THO WHAT IS GOING ON LMAO

16) Okay so after this I decided to go back to Nexus and call it a day. What can I say... Latria's level design was not bad at all. @fantomette22 made it sound to me like it was absolute hell but it honestly was fun? I only barely got annoyed by the maze layout towards the end when I died to that guy in open space and forgor how to get back to him, and only because I wanted to sleep

17) Funny thing: later on I jumped down from the staircase in this spot, and happened to land JUST on Freke!

It almost aggroed him lol xD It is funny because I literally knew he was there, but still made this mistake lol

Also, his apprentice is such a fucking simp lmao fdjhhsdsdf It would be very nice if I could mass-screenshot somehow because his dialogue about Freke is SOOOOO defensive, I found it funny fdhhds

Excuse me, but do you mind doing a small tutorial on how exactly you make your OC hair, I'm a beginner digital artist and I'm just now learning how to draw OC, but I don't think people can live off balled head's 🫤🥲

This is written with the assumption that you know the rule of drawing hair in clumps and blocks rather than strand by strand btw <3

Just gonna give some tips that I myself use! Won't be for everyone ofc :)

When drawing hair for my characters initially, I follow a few basic rules.

Let the lines flow and breathe.

Communicate effectively.

Accommodate weight.

I'm going to use the protagonists for my comic as an example: Max and Seren.

By "letting the lines flow and breathe," I'm mostly referring to following art essential rules! Making sure that my lines are bold and confident, and are clear to read and not claustrophobic.

Communicating effectively who your character is is something that is as important to do through hair as every other element of design. The easiest way to do this is through shape language!

Accommodate for the fact that hair has weight, and the heavier it is, the more likely it is to fall downwards, because of gravity. In a character design, the most important thing is communicating layers if that's your goal (which it is for me :3).

Taking Max and Seren as examples, every line that makes up the outline of the hair is a bold curve or S-curve- I utilise the rough nature of this technique to my advantage when I want hair to look messy.

Max's hair is uniform and wild, with the sharp points of the hair emphasised by the lack of obstruction, whereas Seren's is scruffy and wavy, with emphasis on the curls and layers. These were intentional design choices to convey who they are as characters- Seren isn't the type of person to care about his hair, whereas Max is.

The lack of layering in Max's hair makes it look thinner than Seren's, but it also flows upwards more, since he has shorter hair. Most longer hair will naturally fall downwards, as it naturally has more weight pulling it down.

That's not to say you can't break these obviously! One of my characters has long hair that does flow upwards, though that is a specific design choice made because she is the goddess of space, and her hair is supposed to replicate the shape of the milky way

I encourage you to learn what works for yourself, but if my tips help you, thats also fine!! I'm happy you took interest in my design work and I hope that you enjoy making your art! Remember, with art and especially OCs, it only matters if YOU are happy with what you make! So I hope you have fun with it above all else!! :)

hiii, tysm <33 it's the FAQ page that matches my theme, lowlife!! - this are the tag page and about page in case you want them 💕 and since hot girls don't gatekeep, here's is a tutorial in case you know literally zero stuff about codes :) - more tutorials.

remember that you must do it from a computer and you need to have the "custom theme" activated (see this if you don't know how). im gonna do this tutorial in a random sideblog from scratch btw.

disclaimer: don't change anything else but what i mention here, especially if you don't know anything about html and css because, in the codes, any mistake can make the whole code not work. don't touch anything else but what is involved in the design!

as you asked for a tutorial on the FAQ, i will do it specifically for that page, but this applies to the others, as this is how to install pages in general. first, go to the bottom of the "edit theme" until you see "add a page", add one and change "standard layout" to "custom layout". fill in the url with what you want the web address to be (i used "faq" like most people but you can use something else ofc) and you will notice that there's an option that says "show a link to this page" - if you turn that on, this page will be accessible from your homepage and will be next to your askbox, archive, etc. otherwise, it will just show through the link. you can leave it unchecked if you don't want a link to this page next to your ask or archive, but remember to add it manually to your main theme otherwise no one will be able to see it!

now, in another window, go to the installation page and copy all the code and paste it into the tumblr page. with "update preview" you will see how it is displayed without the need to save it (if you're still editing - remember to save it at the end lol).

now you're going to be faced with a situation: tumblr doesn't let you use javascript by default and these pages have javascript. i have two solutions for you. one is to follow this tutorial to ask tumblr for permission to use javascript, and the other is to remove it in case they deny it - which is not usually the case anyway - or take too long, etc. (the only thing that will happen is that you will no longer have the dynamism that the base code has, on these pages not much happens if you remove it, but on others you will need to ask for permission).

to do this, remove the scripts tags: in the second and third picture i pointed out with the mouse which ones they are. JUST remove that and save it to check that the page is visible and everything else is in order.

the page should already be installed and working correctly, now let's make it pretty!!!!! for this part, i highly recommend googling at least the basics of html and css, but i'll explain it from scratch anyway. but you can ask me everything you need hehe.

changing the colours: this is done with the hex codes. if you have a profile picture or header, upload it to this website to see what colours it has if you want them to match.

once you have those colours, you will go to the page and change the hex code for them. the choice of colours is up to you, play with them, change them and see what colour is altered in case you don't understand what is what, but the tags are quite understandable (background, body, accent, etc). remember that if you took out the javascript the "night mode" will not work, so in the next two to "root" (which identify day and night mode) you can change them but leave them the same as each other.

once you have the colour palette, scroll down to the body. there where i pointed out, you can change the shape of the profile picture, the defalut mode if you left the javascript on, whether you want the sidebar to be left or right and whether you want the borders to be solid, or with dashes or dots. as the code itself says, depending on what you want, just change the word that is already there for the change you need.

where it says F.A.Q and "a short description can be pasted here" would be your sidebar (the profile picture changes itself automatically in this one, but in others you have to change it manually with a link) - if you want to match all your pages to your main theme, just paste the description you already have.

you can put a link in your bio, just copy that and change the word "don't" to whatever you want the link to be and change the link.

ask guidelines, as well as within the questions themselves, you can use html tags. <b> and </b> it's bold, <i> and </i> it's italics, <small> and </small> its to make it smaller, or <strike> and </strike> it's to "strike out" the word. remember to put the start tag where you want it to start and the end tag where you want it to end (the end tags are the same but with a /). paragraphs are separated by <p> and </p>, and as the code explains, you can put bullet lists and blockquotes or literally any htlm tag (to change colour, ordered lists, etc). you can also add links (same format as explained in the description)!!!

for the questions and answers, change the first five where it says "question #X goes here" and "answer to question #X goes here", leave the rest the same. if you want more than five questions, at the end you will see something to copy-paste or you can use question #2 through #5 (NOT #1) to copy and paste it under #5 and change the numbers, as well as the questions and answers.

for example, here you should add the number 6 after the #'s and the questions and answers. finally, you can change the sentence that appears at the end of the askbox, you can match it with the one you already have or make it a custom one from the FAQ.

save everything and you have your faq page! hope you found the tutorial useful :) <3

I actively try to incorporate more diversity into my art style, and admittedly I’m also just unashamedly achillean and men

I specifically have a more cartoony style and admittedly staring at hairy cartoon men does help, but I’m still struggling with stylisation and making it look right

SO FIRST THINGS FIRST! what i do is take notice of the general shape of the body hair (usually the chest/tummy/etc) CUZ there is kind of a pattern goin on like the triangular-ish or rectangle-ish shape at the chest, funny line going down the belly, and usually there is more hair around that area going down to the pelvic reigon of the body (btw...the funny line of hair that starts at under the bellybutton is called a "happy trail" :) and its one of my fav things in the world to draw)

SO what is the next step? SIMPLIFY! this works perfectly since u have a more cartoony style (me too 🤝 i get it)

i just try to follow that pattern of body hair whenever i draw it, and for the hair itself i keep it to simple lines or squiggles! AND theres a little bonus one that i don't do enough tbh (the big fluffy...its really good...)

and ofc if ur drawing bodies w little body hair u dont really have to follow the pattern too much, just vaguely LOL

AND FOR backs and legs its pretty much just the same process, except that from what ive seen back hair is a bit more extreme anddd for the legs just do the fast line stroke or squiggle thang ( btw im not the best at drawing backs and uhh i rlly didnt feel like putting effort into the leg so KJSHDFS)

Do you have any tips on custom terraforming and custom trees? Or is there a specific YT chanel or blog you follow for advice yourself?? (Love your builds btw, I recently haven't had the energy or a good enough mood to play mc but it's always amazing to look through people's projects for my own inspiration).

 heyo! so it's a bit tricky to give advice on this kind of thing bc I more go with the flow until things start looking right, but I can offer some basic (and probably very vague) advice under the cut

for terraforming: think natural, organic shapes and avoid hard edges. this seems obvious but it can be hard to remember especially when making upward slopes/mountains etc.

^this is from literally 7 years ago bc I'm not at my new computer but it's a good example bc it's got good and bad things to it. you can see how at the bottom of the build it gradually slopes up from the water and then transitions pretty smoothly to a steeper slope, that's a pretty good example of how mountains can look. if you've taken algebra, think exponential graph type shiz. even if you have a steep cliff it usually doesn't rise completely vertical from the ground. you can see the area I circled does pretty much that, which makes it look out of place with the rest of the build. 

another good thing to keep in mind is block variation, which adds texture to the landscape. I've definitely gotten better at this over time through practice and watching other people build. the blocks you use are gonna vary depending on the biome/environment ofc, but I like to play around with multiple blocks w/ similar colors

depending again on your biome, greenery is always a plus. I tend to avoid using bonemeal to add grass/flowers/etc, because personally I don’t love the red/yellow color combo. as for custom trees, I typically make the trunk/branches first (using a combo of logs, wood planks, fences, stairs, slabs to get the right shape/colors) and then filling in leaves until it feels right lmao. 

I don’t really watch tutorials on building, but I do watch a few builder youtubers when I have time. GoodTimesWithScar is known for being a super talented terraformer with a lot of large-scale builds. (his current hermitcraft starter base is a really cool tree iirc, which might be good to check out!) BDoubleO100 is another inspiration of mine, and is really good at nailing fine detailing in building (his texturing has inspired me a LOT). in my last post with the castle, those pine trees were inspired by some he made in one of his videos. he just started a new season of his youtube building series, where he talks in depth about his build process––would totally recommend. through association I know lot of other hermitcraft members have great experience (GeminiTay PearlescentMoon Grian etc etc etc), so you can check them out too! 

big takeaway that I’m sure everyone’s heard before: practice makes progress woohoo yass! but it’s true, I’ve definitely seen improvement just by trial and error and experimenting with different things over time. also learning from other people can be super helpful as well. tools like worldpainter/worldedit/voxel aren’t necessary at all, but they’re sometimes super nice to use especially in the planning stages of building. if you’re able to download/willing to use them, there are a lot of youtube tutorials on how they work

this is a super general overview and I’d be glad to answer some more questions if you have any specific ones! just realized this has been sitting in my inbox for a few days and wanted to make sure I got back to you. again, I’m no expert and if anybody else wants to reply w/ extra advice feel free <3

Telegram?

I’ve mentioned Telegram before, but stopped short of writing an introduction about it since we probably won’t really taking the whole moving thing seriously. However, it seems tumblr’s starting to screw up with its UI & user posts AGAIN, while some simmers are worried about SFS. I’d like to explore the possibility to use Telegram as an alternative. Besides, Telegram is a powerful and useful tool that worth trying even for personal use. I'd like to share what I’ve learnt about it and how we can make use of it as an ordinary user and a simmer. You can find other much more comprehensive tutorials or user guides on the internet.  

What is Telegram?

Telegram is a social platform founded by a Russian IT expert/billionaire Pavel Durov, who created this message app to defend the freedom of speech against the Russian government. It is now funded by a dedicated foundation, proving a highly-encrypted message service and popular among tech-savvy. Learn more about Telegram: Telegram FAQ

Pro:

Safe & Stable-as mentioned above. This is why I think Telegram is better than most of other potential alternatives like Pillowfort, Waterfall (not stable enough with funding risks), Discord (closed community with questionable shareholder Tencent, Telegram allows preview historical records before joining in) . Its background, source of funding and user base guarantee it won’t be gone or dramatically change after a buyout, at least not for a foreseeable future.

(Nearly) Unlimited file storage- Telegram allows its users to upload all kinds of files with the only restriction of up to 1.5GB/per file. All the chat records or pictures, videos are all saved to the could. We could use this to diversify the risk from SFS. Besides, Telegram provides both mobile and desktop version. For example, I often drag the songs I like to the desktop version and then download and save the files to my smart phone when I decide to change my ring tone or alarm. This is also handy when I need to compare the reference photos to the sim I’m creating in CAS. All I have to do is to paste the link to these reference photos with the desktop version, then I can easily check them up with my phone.

Channel vs Group- Telegram allows its user to create channels to broadcast (you can subscribe certain channels to keep up with the latest info) and groups for group chat (pretty much like FB or Line chat room but allows up to 200,000 members)  I think we can have multiple groups for like cc release, roleplay, challenges or events, basically everything we have with Discord, and at least one channel as TS3 bulletin, broadcasting the latest news in the community. Each simmer can also set up their own channels & groups to interact with their followers.

Search and categorize by tags- We can use tags to sort out the cc like what we do with Tumblr. Moreover, Telegram provides a cross-channel/group tag search system. 

Powerful Bot-This is probably the most innovative advantage of Telegram. Bot can help you with all kinds of tasks, even more useful than Discord. 

  -As a simmer, you can use the bot to make posts to different        channels/groups simultaneously, for instance, I write a post about my new cc  on my personal channel and the bot will automatically post it to the cc update group.  There’s also inline blot can help non-English speaker to translate the messages when needed, like Translate Me-bot or ReadUp Inline Translator. 

As for personal use, you can use  @utubebot  or @YouTube Audio Downloader to download videos from  YouTube, or upload a file and create a shareable link with @TGhost_bot, or search for meme/gif with @imagebot​ and ofc @Feed Reader Bot to subscribe RSS feed. Telegram also provides numerous free stickers and you can make custom ones with @stickers &  @big_text_bot. Btw, Telegram allows its users to customize the UI theme.

You can also create your own bot with Telegram’s opensource API.

Proxy Server-Users in Russia and Iran won’t have to use telegram via VPN. The official bot @mtpro_xyz_bot will automatically protect users in these regions once properly sets up.

No NSFW censorship- I think this one is pretty self-explanatory.  

Con-

Registration requires your phone number- Telegram starts as a message app and develops into a platform for multiple communities later. Hence, it requires a valid phone number during registration. There are also ways to bypass this restriction, like using a virtual phone number. BUT! It would be a problem if someone else gain access to this number after you. I don’t recommend that. If you worried about privacy, you can decide who can see your phone number in the setting. I turned mine off as soon as I finished the registration process.

Telegram is banned in Russia, Iran and China as its wide use among activists and dissidents during protests (ie, Hong Kong.) Simmers in these regions will need to use Proxy or VPN to access. 

Requires more time and efforts to learn and adopt its powerful functions

Of course the best part will be we can finally say goodbye to Tumblr without worrying about our posts being swallowed or flagged, the automatic unfollowing function, or the possibility of find the blogs we worked on for years just disappeared overnight.    

I’ve been observing Telegram for quite some time, I think it worth a shot. what about you? Moving to another platform will be difficult, but I kinda tired of complaining over Tumblr.

Beluga time. Inspired by one of mine beloved plushies. ...🌊 🌊 🌊 I didn't posted much this year I guess as well as I didn't do much art too. Whole year was pretty harsh on me not gonna lie. Because of that it was truly impossible for me to get back on track with everything. And you know what? I'm not gonna get "back on track" . The path I followed caused a major train wreck and I would be stupid to follow it after my recovery lol. I'm slowly building my own road again and this piece - created after many months of not even touching a pen is kinda like a milestone to me. I did art. I did art that brought me happiness. It wasn't something I had to do but just wanted to. Which is a huge improvement. Who knows. Maybe I will start loving it again. 🎨 🎨 🎨 Btw this piece was strongly inspired by two of my beloved artists. First one is ofc Robin Sealark who's videos and tutorials made me fall in love with painting once again after many years of abandoning that medium. legitimate advice for new phandom blogs

hey !! so i know sometimes posts like ‘RULES FOR THE PHANDOM XD’ are made and they’re all like “numba one. dan is a squishy bean respect this uwu” but this isn’t gonna be like that lol. im just going to list a few actual things that might help people new to the phandom learn about and become integrated into the community! of course these aren’t ‘rules’ and u dont have to listen to any of it ofc,,, im not here to control ur blog, just here to say what people normally do. feel free to rb whether u are a new blog or not, ill appreciate it either way!

1. be interactive! 

here, unique to our corner of timmy darn communism, we have a lot of like virtual traditions that everyone knows. these help you to make friends and also grow ur blog with some new mutuals. here are some examples.

networks: networks, or nets, are a sort of selective gc, usually with a theme or concept that it’s based around, in which all who wish to be part of fill out an application form that determines whether they get in. this is kinda the one with the most work, as u also have to make a group blog and info post, but it’s definitely worth it. i have made my closest friends in nets (such as @phleurnet which i birthed), and a lot of people on here would say the same. if you want to know more or apply, my friend diana runs an update blog @phandomnets! (examples, these are all open btw: x x x)

meetups: meetups are not in real life, don’t worry. a meetup is when someone organizes a specific time at which we all post thing around a certain theme! for instance, on halloween on tuesday, my friend milo hosted a halloween meetup. usually people post selfies but if u are uncomfortable with that, u can post art, music, or anything else related to the theme. a blog called @phandommeetupwatch keeps track of these! (examples, all happening soon/just happened: x x x)

follow forevers: a follow forever is a big celebration post when u reach a follower count milestone, no matter 50 or 5k. u tag all of the blogs you love, and they reblog it to appreciate u! it’s really positive and shows people how their work has paid off. usually people are tagged in alphabetical order, and sometimes people bold their favorites but the stylization is up to u. (recent examples: x x x)

milestone activities: sometimes people do things for their followers when they reach a follower count that involves their followers requesting something! there are many many forms of this type of thing. a common one is blog rates, in which there is a set template and the blogger rates each blog that sends in an ask using the template (info post ex: x; rate ex: x). there are also url edits (x), name/url moodboards (x), and more. u can certainly come up w an idea of ur own, being creative is great!

talk to people: that’s right dude!!! ye!!! u can message a blog u think is cool, or send an ask if u think something they made or are talking about is interesting, or add something sweet in the tags (more on etiquette later) when u rb their post. additionally, sometimes people stir up discourse, and u should participate in it if u want (past discourse examples: x x). u can also send asks when people reblog ask games, which are a list of questions with a theme (new one of mine ex: x). 

2. play around with your blog!

customizing your blog can start giving you what we call a branding, making you distinguished from other bloggers. this can include everything from as simple as using an icon to coding your own about page. 

themes: a blog can be way more appealing if it is aesthetically pleasing. admittedly, i often follow people just because of the smoothness of their mobile theme. a mobile theme is rather easy to construct as u can do it on ur own with a phone. it is how ur blog looks on a phone. although u don’t have to do this, i recommend sticking to two to four colors on ur theme and avoiding stuffing it with a lot of bright things because it can distract from content. additionally, bloggers often make their descriptions short and succinct. (my fav mobiles: x x x.) on a pc, your blog theme can be customized completely on html, meaning there is a lot of freedom. u don’t have to learn to code for this, bc u can find free themes anywhere, just search ‘free tumblr themes’ on google. once again, be creative, but u shouldn’t overload. (my fav pcs: x x x.)

about pages: in order to avoid chunky descriptions but still let people know the key deets about themselves, bloggers create about pages. sometimes these bout pages are uncoded but u can also use html code if u want to. some common things in an about page are interests, maybe personality types/horoscopes/hogwarts houses, original content, and links to other social media. (examples: x x x)

urls: urls are a key part of your blog’s brand. ‘rebranding’ is what people say if they change their url! if u are tired or bored with your url, changing it is an opportunity to change your theme and other parts of ur blog as well. (url change ex: x). 

saved urls: saved urls are basically when bloggers hoard sideblogs in order to reserve the urls used for them. if you ever encounter a blank blog that has ‘saved’ as its title, that’s probably it. sometimes people like to give away their urls, either as a constant thing (ex: x) or by doing a url giveaway (x). either way, it’s a good opportunity to change it up!

tags: in order to keep their blog cleancut and organized, a lot of bloggers have special tags for certain people, certain topics, and/or certain types of media. many people in the phandom particularly have tags for dan and phil that match (strawberries and cream, lune and sole, etc). if they have many of these tags, there can be a page for their tags on their blog. this page can be coded with special html or just a regular tumblr page, it doesn’t really matter. but it’s very useful for those who visit your blog, and makes it easy for u to navigate older posts as well! (examples: x x x)

3. learn to make og content!

producing original content helps you establish what your strengths are and why people should follow you. it also allows u to contribute to the fanbase, and gives u a chance of being noticed by dnp! and the validation is lovely. there are many options if u want to make something. 

gifs: gifs are an ART here in the phandom, and its mechanisms still perplex me to this day bc ive never tried it. u probably already know what a gif is, but if not, its essentially a short animation made in photoshop that repeats. gifmakers are often distinguished by a unique coloring (example gifmakers: x x x), such as my friend emily’s smooth dark blue tint (x). it can be a long process to learn how to gif but it is very rewarding in the end, from what i’ve heard. (tutorials: x x)

art: there is a very wide range of phanartists, all with such talents, either digital or traditional, that you can draw inspirations from for your own work. you can make cartoons, comics, realism, abstract, nsfw even, or any mix (or none) of the former. artists on tumblr definitely deserve more attention than they get here on tumblr, so be sure to show appreciation towards them! (my fav artists: x x x)

edits: edits are the Graphic Designs of our community and are usually very aesthetically pleasing. they can be centered around a certain event, like a video or something dnp made, or just for fun. the more practice you get making them, the more dexterous u’ll become. they can be a great tool if u like the design aspect of art but don’t want to actually draw. (edit makers: x x)

icons: icons are just the little profile picture that u can insert for ur blog. it’s really easy and fun to make them, kind of like a lazy version of edits. you can make them using photoshop or an app like picsart or medibang, and it doesn’t take a lot of time. more on how to use icons in section 4. (examples: x x x) (my lil tutorial: x)

moodboards: moodboards are nine pictures arranged 3 by 3 that have a certain color scheme. it’s kind of like a collage except the photo feature here separates the pictures for u. there are a lot of innovative moodboard makers that stun me w how pretty it looks or how they arrange the pics. moodboards are also an easy and fun option! (moodboard tags: x x x)

textposts: this is by far the easiest and more common form of content u will find. it’s just writing about dnp in a textpost! if a textpost isn’t very serious, people also call it a meme or shitpost. shitposting is defs on the rise here so its a good business to get into. it’s also a great outlet for ur emotions or personal connections to what dnp do! (example talk tags: x x x)

fics: by far the most famous media to come out of here, phanfiction is a popular form of phan indulgence. u have probably heard of the most scarring ones (list: x), but there is actually a really vast range of it, not just creepy smut! some other genres are fluff, angst, and slow burns. u will discover that, despite the sterotype, not all fanfiction is bad. you can find lovely fics on @phanfictioncatalogue by genre, au, or topic. and, if u need help writing something, many writers would love to help. (a few well-known fics: x x x x x)

4. tumblr etiquette!

i know tumblr might seem like a simple social media (or perhaps not after u’ve read all the above?) but there’s a lot of things that u just....u just don’t do. it’s sort of like virtual manners, and if u don’t follow them, then it’s unlikely that people will like ur blog. once again, this is by no means me forcing u to run ur blog a certain way. it just happens that the types of ppl who break these rules are who we mock in gcs :////////. so yea, here’s some advice.

credits: if u decide to use someone’s art, edit, gif, or icon on the theme of ur blog, check what they require of u before u use it. most content creators strongly ask for credit in the description of ur blog, either by link or like ‘icon/header/art by ____’. it is just a common courtesy to the person who spent time on that, and if u think credit will ruin the aesthetic of ur blog, a) u probably don’t have an aesthetic in the first place and b) learn to appreciate art, binch. 

anonymity: anon asks can be very powerful either negatively or positively depending on how u yield them, so make sure that u are careful with what u send. compliments are always welcome and criticism as well, but blatant rudeness or hate will do nothing. u will only make someone feel bad about themselves and it will not accomplish anything. also, u face the threat of all their friends turning u into a meme. 

sensitivity: a lot of people here are way too easily offended by harmless jokes, a common example in the phandom being when we insult dnp affectionately and people take it way too much to heart. please don’t start drama over something w no real meaning. however, there are times when it is indeed necessary. if u want to criticise a blogger, be respectful of them simultaneously. by all means, if u spot someone being racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynist, or the like, feel free to call them out on it. but beforehand, make sure that u have done ur research and are educated on the topic, or u could turn out to be blatantly wrong. 

adding to posts: everyone makes this mistake when they start out here and that’s totally okay, but adding to every post u reblog is incredibly bothersome. a rule of thumb would be don’t add anything unless what u say will actually improve the post significantly. if ur additions are along the lines of ‘LOL’ or ‘i relate!!!!’ or ‘philly is a smol bean XD’, learn to use the tags for heaven’s sake. they’re there for not only organization but also for commenting. some exceptions, though, would be if u are mentioned in the post or the op is your close friend. 

respecting privacy: this should already be obvious to u, but respect dan and phil’s boundaries. do not tag them or their main tags (#daniel howell, #danisnotonfire, #amazingphil), in any phanfics, phanart (like specifically with them as a romantic ship), or phan edits. do not talk to their family members, expose their personal info like address or phone number, and do consider that they are real people just like u. we may make things based around phan, but it is kept in a community for us and not for dan and phil’s eyes. this is very important.

mutuals: someone who you follow and who follows you; usually who u interact with most

rb: shortening for ‘reblog’

discourse: when theres is intense discussion of a certain topic, sometimes phan-related sometimes not, sometimes serious and sometimes silly

branding: the word ‘branding’ kinda started as a joke, but it’s generally what we use to call what someone’s blog reminds them of, whether it be a certain color or a discussion topic; my branding, if u asked a mutual, would probably be impressionism, tea, and baguettes (dont ask ab that one)

html: a simple type of coding used for designing websites! u can learn basic html here or here, it’s way easier and funner than it looks

dnp: dan and phil; we also say ‘deppy’, ‘dip and pip’, ‘the boys’, ‘the rats’, and more

coloring: basically the stylization of a gif, shown through filters, textures, contrast, brightness, etc. 

talk tag: a tag in which all of the textposts that a person makes are sorted into

phanfiction terms

smut: porn fic :/ 

fluff: just what it sounds like, a type of fic that usually has a lot of soft stuff like cuddling, flirting, and looooove

angst: a fic with a lot of drama, usually sad or very emotional

slow burn: a fic where a pairing, in this case phan, slowly falls in love

au: stands for ‘alternate universe’, a fic in which dan and phil are written not as youtubers but in a completely different scenario (ie. bad boy and new guy in high school, university students, space exhibition, anything u can dream up really)

you were not expecting someone….as visually stunning as Minhyun

which you then are ashamed of yourself for thinking because hey, tutors can be hot too, you cant just dismiss them like that 

but Minhyun is like god level, your ideal type visuals so you’re just a tad stunned

you’re caught up in your own thoughts because you hear your mother sigh loudly before telling Minhyun that you have a tendency to zone out mid conversation

and Minhyun laughs

and his laugh is sO BEAUTIFUL

it’s such a genuine, happy laugh, which is a contrast to the cold first impression you got when you had the stare down less than a minute prior

but, back to business, you start your first chemistry tutorial with him 

and you realise that wow, without a tutor you probably would’ve failed

Minhyun is really clear and concise, and you’re a bit embarrassed by how little you know

But he’s super understanding

“chem is hard y/n, don’t worry I struggled at first when I did it last year”

he says as he blinks 10x a second

you note down somewhere in the back of your head that he’s only a year older than you lol it’s useful info to have you know, who even needs chemistry

“how did you get so good at it then?”

“uhhhm, I listened to my tutor?”

“don’t lie, you’ve always been good at chem, haven’t you?”

he looks away in embarrassment and nods

the first tutorial goes smoothly, he refreshes your memory on the basics 

your mother brings the two of you some fruit and snacks to eat while you study

and you notice that Minhyun’s a really polite and nice guy

like after the two of you had finished eating he had gotten up and was going to go wash the dishes you’d used

“Minhyun it’s fine really, I’ll wash them later, just leave them”

but he insisted on washing them, and there was no stopping him

The next few tutorials went well and you feel like you’re slowly starting to get the hang of chemistry

and you’re also getting more comfortable around Minhyun and vice versa

conversations aren’t awkward anymore and you find out a bit about him

He’s in his first year of uni and studying health sciences, which surprises you because you wonder how he has time to be a tutor and study

Minhyun just shrugs it off, but from then on you notice whenever his dark circles are clearer than usual

or when he asks you if it’s okay for him to eat his food he brought with him because he didn’t have time to during lunch

but he never complains about being tired at all unlike you lol

and over time Minhyun practically becomes your confidante, and you tell him a lot of your concerns about school and your future etc

he gives you really good advice, and always listens to every word you say and takes it all in like a sponge

So usually you have your tutorial sessions in the dining room

But one day your mum had guests over so she ushered the two of you into your room

you only have one chair in your room though so before that you had to go into your younger brother’s room to get a chair for Minhyun to sit on

His room lowkey stresses you out though because it’s as if a wild animal has torn through the room with dirty clothes and books strewn everywheRE

Minhyun follows behind you, and when he sees your brother’s room you swear his eyebrow started twitching

“uh, yeah sorry, please ignore my brother’s mess of a room, it’s actually disgraceful”

Minhyun looks at you in concern

“Please tell me your room isn’t like this too.”

you have never been more thankful to yourself because you like to keep your room clean and organised.

when you two sit down in your room, Minhyun breathes out a very audible sigh of relief

and you can’t help but laugh at how adorable he is

Minhyun doesn’t know why your laughing at him but he does know that he really likes your laugh

your brother comes home a little while later and he barges into your room demanding where his chair is

and he sees Minhyun and proceeds to freak the f uck out

“HYUNG!!!”

Minhyun’s eyes widen and he looks back and forth between you and your brother like a deer caught in headlights

“oh my god y/n, your little brother is Yoo Seonho????

that’s when you realise that this Hwang Minhyun, your chem tutor, is the same “Minhyunnie Hyung” that your little brother idolises so much

From then on Seonho tries to crash your tutorial sessions much to your dismay, so your mother decides to permanently move the tutorial sessions to your room

You apologise so much to Minhyun

“if you’re uncomfortable we can meet in the library instead?” 

“Seriously y/n i’m fine! If you want to move to the library, we can, but it’s probably more convenient for both of us to just continue having them at your house”

He’ll usually make sure that you’re listening to his help and that you’re studying for the two hour sessions you have

But sometimes he comes over a bit earlier or stays a bit later and the two of you have good chats and eat snacks and drink tea because you both dislike coffee

sometimes you feel bad for rambling on about your worries to him because he must have worries too and you dont want to dump it all on him

so you decided that the next tutorial you wouldn’t talk as much and just focus on chemistry

and as you’re finishing up for that day, you start clearing up your books but Minhyun looks at you in concern

“are you alright y/n? you haven’t said much today”

tbh you’re surprised he even noticed 

“I just thought that you’re probably sick of hearing about my life every week..”

“I like listening to you talk about anything though”

His ears go as pink as your blushing face, and you both shy away

Around university exam time Minhyun had to take a break as your tutor in order to focus on his studies

but he felt really bad so he made you a little care package and he came round in the weekend to personally deliver it to you 

and it had all his chemistry notes and your favourite snacks and chocolates

he had even put a little fox plushie in because he said it resembles him

and when he gave it to you, you were so touched

the funny thing is that you had made him a similar care package too (minus the chem notes lol), to cheer him on for his exams

and the two of you were a blushing mess when you gave them to each other

like it’s become so obvious that the two of you like each other

Minhyun gives you a quick hug before he turns to leave and is about to get in his car

but he has second thoughts and turns around

“um, y/n…after my exams, do you want to go on a date with me? 

After his exams (which went well ofc), you start dating, and you go on little dates here and there

the two of you try to keep it a secret from your mum and Seonho

but one day your mother asks if Minhyun wants to stay for dinner to thank him for being such a good tutor and boyfriend to you

the two of you were originally going to go watch a movie that night but because you were now stuck at home to eat dinner you didn’t see a reason why minhyun shouldn’t join your family

lol regrets

because minhyun can’t lie for shit remember (you’re not that much better either)

he’s so suspicious at dinner and keeps blinking constantly your mother can see right through the two of you

and then she dead ass asks “so how’s the dating going?”

and minhyun replies “it’s good!” before realising that she said dating not tutoring and he’s like asdfghjkl shit.

Seonho is horrified but your mum loves it, she thinks Minhyun is perfect boyfriend material and was hoping something might happen between the two of you wow matchmaker mother in the house

However, Minhyun still insists on being the absolute professional when he tutors you

but he’ll schooch his chair closer to yours

or feed you fruit when you’re busy writing stuff down

and sometimes he’ll hold your hand under the table

or sneak in a kiss here and there

he also cleaned Seonho’s room “it’ll be good bonding time!”

and one time he fell asleep on your bed after a long day at uni and you didn’t have the heart to wake him up because he had been so tired and he looked like such an angel and you realised then that you really really love him so much because how can someone be so perfect 

you end up falling asleep at your desk but when you wake up the next morning you’re all warm and snuggled up in his arms in your bed and he kisses your forehead and gives you the sweetest eye smile that you feel like melting and you can’t help thinking at that exact moment that you’re the luckiest person in the world
