Origins of the Wind Fish

My last chapter spoke about Cironus' abilities that eventually led to him being exiled from his pod, and leaving him to solve a riddle about the Wind Fish. I'd still like to write another chapter to continue this story but everything has been happening. So why not share some of the story in the mean time!

Under a cut because it'll get wordy!

Meet three special characters for Cironus' story; Maestro, Skaana, and Fermata.

🪶 Maestro He was a bard who lived in the Rito village thousands of years ago during the reign of Rauru and Sonia. He met Skaana when he was injured, and they fell in love during the time he was recovering. He is what you'd call Cironus' ultimate grandfather, the patriarch of the zorca. His and Skaana's children were the first Wind Fish bards!

🐳 Skaana There was once a large body of water in the Hebra region and Skaana lived there long ago. She was a priestess who was called on to heal a rito bard and she couldn't help but be charmed by him. Her name is the Haida word for orca which means "Spirit being" 🦑 Fermata The tragic villain of Cironus' tale. Her actions have affected the zorca since their beginnings. The term fermata is a note (or rest period) that is held for a prolonged period of time until the maestro says otherwise. I wanted to follow the musical connection zora have, and as a way to hint the connection she has to the other two.

Skaana and Maestro are based on a pourquoi story called Orca's Song. A black whale/fish falls in love with an osprey. The two find ways to be with one another despite their differences and give one another gifts from the land and water. Their child ends up being a black and white whale that is the orca.

All the stories about these three were forgotten or misconstrued over time. The zorca of the present day are completely unaware that any of them existed.

Art in my previous posts make brief mention about the saddle patches of the zorca being connected to Maestro. In Link's Awakening the Wind Fish has wings on it's back and actual orca have saddle patches that look like hearts/wings!

This is Chadd, he's from the Inx in Conv/rgence, he loves Jinx, and he organizes elaborate acts of terrorism/performance art against Piltover in Jinx's name. And I NEED this strain of Jinx stan to make it into season 2 of Arcane.

Chadd is the best example of the kind Zaunite that takes their admiration of Jinx seriously and let's it influence their own violence and art, because yes, he plays guitar and sings with the Inx's band. Chadd's an obnoxious, in your face, musically-talented (but borderline nerdy), organized weirdo that gathers all the other stans to plan aerial concerts/bombing events on Piltover.

He's such a dedicated stan (in the concept art) that he dresses up like Jinx too, shorts, fishnets, collar and all. Chadd even has his Jinx tattoo drawn in the same placement aswhere Jinx has her own.

Please Arcane, let obsessive freaks like Chadd overwhelm the chembarons next season as Jinx's stans believe the chembarons don't pay her enough proper tribute. Let Jinx be mildly amused at their antics and keep them around for logistics and grunt work.

Friday, Friday, Friday ...

"It's a twister! It's a twister! Aunty Em! Aunty Em!" Not that the pictures have anything whatsoever to do with the film Airplane ... nor is there a twister about to descend on the Emerald Isle ... it's just the fact that the breeze is picking up out there and the quote from Airplane flipped straight into my head. ;-D

Everything is growing great guns out there and Fermata has now been with me for a year. He's so wee amongst all the trees and plants. Thought I'd lost him this week as pretty sure he had an allergic reaction to something. Typical cat, I'm all concerned for him, so he does a disappearing trick and leaves me thinking he's popped off the mortal coil.

Then I get sent a photo from my neighbour (the one I share 'the box' with) and Fermata is sitting outside her back door. The caption on the photo said 'Cats and cemeteries go paw in paw'. Good to know where he goes during his 'now you see me, now you don't' moments ...

You’ve grown used to leaving your window open at night. Lying down on your bed, you glance at the night sky somewhat listlessly. Silently counting all the stars in the sky.

Tiny little pinpricks of light, in an otherwise ink-black sky. You’ve grown ever so fond of this sight, staying in this Twisted Wonderland. The stars shine rather brightly here.

Almost like someone’s crimson eyes…. Your thoughts stray to a certain schoolmate of yours. Lilia Vanrouge. With his Crimson eyes that always had that spark of mischief dancing within it, ebony hair with streaks of pink throughout… blood red lips that were ever so tantalising…

Your hand reaches for your phone, before you decide the better of it. He’s probably sleeping by this hour, you wouldn’t want to disturb him. Tapping on the screen ever so lightly, you watch your phone flicker on, your wallpaper a picture of both Lilia and you. He has his arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer in the picture. It was taken after a fun day at the arcade, after both of you won a prize each from the crane games.

How many tries did it take both of you to get a plushie each? Well…. You don’t remember exactly. But what you do remember is the way his brows frowned in concentration, the way he deftly manoeuvres the claw around the plush… and he smile that was stretched across his lips as he handed it to you, grinning all the way.

That smile…. It’s forever etched into your memory, inked right into your beating heart. Try as you might, you can’t forget the way that smile. Great Seven, you were absolutely whipped, weren’t you?

Laughing to yourself softly, you stared at the time on your phone.

Just then, a notification popped up on your screen. You blinked in surprise. Who could possibly be up at this hour? Clicking into the notification, your heart leapt a bit as you saw that familiar contact name.

Batty Vampy: Hello! Check your windows💜

Propping yourself up, you hurry to your window. Sticking your head out of it, glancing left, glancing right… only to have someone suddenly appear above of you. Hanging upside down in midair, crimson eyes crinkled from laughter.

Lilia Vanrouge, grinning at you upside down. He soon rights himself, landing delicately on your window still.

He beams at you, a mischievous smile dancing across his lips.

“Did ya’ really think that I wouldn’t show up? It’s your special day, after all~”

Lilia slips into your room, an arm snaking around your waist, and the other slipping into your own hand. He waltzes you around the room slowly, dancing to the beat of both your hearts.

“I wouldn’t miss this for the world.”

As the clock strikes 12, Lilia moves just a bit closer to you. Close enough for you to see every detail within those mesmerising crimson eyes. Closer enough for you to feel his breath on your skin.

Close enough for him to press his lips against yours.

“Happy Birthday, darling.”

Her name is Mellie Music

Her ponytail is the treble clef symbol

Her hair/right shoulder is based on the staff

Hat is a half rest

Marking on her sides are quarter rests

Blush/wrists are sharps

Eye is a fermata

Ear/neck of her outfit is the bass clef symbol

Buttons are flats

Leg parts are sixteenth notes

Necklace is a repeat

Left arm has whole notes on it

Her coat tails are crechendo/diminuendo
